THE PRESSED DAISY. FOR FOURTEEN FREAKING YEARS?! Are you actually kidding me?! 😭 The second I found out Don had kept that daisy all those years, I knew I was absolutely DONE FOR.

I loved Rayla and Donomie so freaking much!!

Rayla coming back to Piper Falls with her little girl after finally getting away from her abusive ex had my heart hurting for her. She was trying so hard to build this safe, happy little life for them and then her kitchen catches FIRE on the first night and who turns up to help her?!

DON. HER CHILDHOOD BEST FRIEND. THE MAN WHO HAS LOVED HER FOREVER. 😭

And Donomie… this man absolutely BROKE ME.

He has carried so much with him. His time in the military, losing his best friend, his diagnosis and everything going on inside his head, yet underneath all of it is still the boy who fell in love with Rayla when she put a daisy chain around his neck. AND HE KEPT ONE. FOURTEEN YEARS. I WILL NEVER BE NORMAL ABOUT THIS.

The fact that he was going to tell her how he felt at graduation but thought he’d already lost his chance absolutely destroyed me because YOU TWO COULD HAVE HAD FOURTEEN MORE YEARS TOGETHER 😭😭

But watching them find their way back to each other made all that hurt worth it.

I loved that their relationship wasn’t suddenly fixed overnight. It was dinners, movies, showing up, little moments and slowly rebuilding that connection they’d always had. Don didn’t just love Rayla either, he showed up for her daughter too and I am an absolute SUCKER for a man falling for the mum AND her child. And that little seven-year-old matchmaker knew EXACTLY what she was doing 😂👏🏻

And when Rayla’s ex started causing trouble??? SIR. PLEASE LEAVE. Don’s protective side coming out had me absolutely FERAL, but I also loved that Rayla wasn’t written as someone waiting around to be rescued. She fought for herself and her daughter too.

This book had so much heart underneath the romance. PTSD, anxiety, depression, grief, abuse, healing and learning that sometimes being strong doesn’t mean carrying everything alone.

I loved the story between Ray and Big G. Daisy was so adorable. Chad was a typical Chad… Some things felt a bit rushed, but it didn’t hurt the story.

Her wounded protector shares the story of Rayla and Donnie. The second chance romance is going to pull out your heart strings with a representation of PTSD and strong mental health awareness. Our main male character is a veteran in the army, and he has come back home to live his life. He has attached himself from his family to process the loss of a friend and the guilt that comes with it. Or female main character is trying to start over. She comes home with her daughter as she has just filed for divorce and it was finalized just days before she left Dallas.

Please bare mind our female main character’s ex-husband is not the nicest human being, so please check your trigger warnings. Not to mention that Chad’s parents. are not the easiest to get along with either. I also think that our female main character’s parents pushing her to rekindle a relationship with someone who isn’t the best didn’t really realize all the pain and hurt that she was actually going through. Our female main character‘s daughter is refreshing, smart, and a delight.

In the end, our main characters do get their happy ending, but not without a fight.

This was a very sweet small town romance about childhood best friends who miss out on their first chance at love but find eachother again.

Two people who have been through things that have caused them irreparable harm but whose love for eachother make it okay. I enjoyed that both Rayla and Donny named their "firstborns" the Daisy after the name they chose together. They were both really sweet.

The reason this was a 3.5 for me was because of some of the plot points. Rayla's mom wants her to be with a verbally abusive man? Even after the book is over, she still doesnt seem onboard with them getting married. They never have a scene confronting the mother about a letter she wrote to Donnie from "Rayla". We never find out what was in the letter. Another plot that seemed unnecessary was Donnie's ex-fiance. She just showed up randomly at Rayla's house to dump all of their history on a stranger and see the girl who she couldn't measure up to? Then they watch Love Ialand together? Nothing ever comes up again from that. What was the point?

Their story was very sweet overall but I just felt a bit like it didnt feel completely fleshed out.

I absolutely loved this book! Donnie and Ray’s journey was heartbreaking, emotional, sweet, and soooo good. There was so much more underneath their romance, and I loved watching both of them grow throughout the story.

Donnie. My heart hurt for this man.

His journey is really about learning that he can’t always be the hero—or, more importantly, that he doesn’t have to be the person saving the day every single time. He’s already having a rough go at life when his best girl friend finally comes back into it, and suddenly all those feelings he had for her years ago are right there again.

And the way he shows Ray just how much he loved her all those years ago?! MY HEART.

Then we have Ray—the single mom who was somehow completely oblivious to the fact that her best friend was in love with her.She comes back into Donnie’s life, and watching him win her over was SO GOOD.

Their chemistry came back so naturally. Once things started heating up between them, it was like they had never been apart. The connection was already there because of their history, but adding the romance and heat on top of it? Chef’s kiss.

But we absolutely cannot forget about Daisy and Daisy Mae!

The adorable seven-year-old and the pup brought so much heart to this story. I loved what they added to Donnie and Ray’s relationship and the overall feeling of their little family. They made some of the sweeter moments even better.

Donnie and Ray had me hurting for them, rooting for them, and loving every second of watching them find their way back to each other.

Best friends, second chances, a single mom, years of hidden feelings, emotional healing, AND two Daisys?! Yes please. ❤️‍🩹🔥🐾

Hi everyone!
First, I should mention that this is the eleventh book in the *Piper Falls: Paramedics* series.
I read this book initially as a beta reader and then as an ARC reader, and I want to thank the author for giving me this opportunity. This was my first time reading a book as a beta reader in English—though I’ve done it many times in Greek, my native language. But now, let’s get back to the book itself.
The protagonists are Rayla and Donomie. Rayla is strong enough to leave an abusive relationship; she has her daughter, Daisy, with her. She decides to return to her hometown, where she reconnects with her teenage sweetheart. Everything they had buried comes to light. Donomie is the perfect man—although I disagreed with one of his actions, I understood that he did it to protect the woman he loved. All’s well that ends well, though.
The story touches on many themes I personally love, such as depression, anxiety, emotional blackmail, and more.
Once again, the author’s writing is captivating, enjoyable, fast-paced, and enchanting.

Review of Advanced Reader Copy

This was such a lovely second chance romance full of emotion. I really liked the friends to lovers concept, particularly in light of how Don had held on to the pressed daisy and his love for Rayla for fourteen years. Don was such an endearing broken hero, and it was very sweet seeing him gradually learn that he doesn’t have to be the saviour of everyone around him. Rayla was a strong yet realistic heroine, and I enjoyed seeing her start rebuilding her life for herself and her daughter. But seriously, the little seven year old matchmaker was precious. The small-town setting, family dynamics, emotional healing, and slow burn romance were all executed perfectly.

An emotional read that was both sweet and heavy with a nice HEA.

One of my favorite books of the year!
For fourteen years these two have wondered what if. After heartbreak, they’re finally able to answer that question.
This is an amazing love story, with unapologetic love and devotion. Donnie’s commitment to Rayla is everything you could ask for in a man. But he’s also a man in uniform and those tend to come with some quirks and impulsive decisions. There is a third act breakup, but it works beautifully into the story, so I’m not mad about it.
My only complaints are the unnecessary reminders what the VA is, but maybe not everyone knows that. Either way, I don’t think it needed explaining more than once. And there was one character that I think was wholly unnecessary; they didn’t seem to add anything to the story.

Okayyy, this one! 👀 I went into it and Liza had me hooked pretty much immediately. The writing flowed so well, and once I finally had a chance to sit down and read… GOODBYE PRODUCTIVITY. 😂📖

I really loved Donnie and Rayla! Their dynamic had me invested, and can we just appreciate Rayla’s name?! 😍 Because I absolutely LOVE it!

But Daisy… 😂💕 DAISY WAS MY GIRL! She was spunky, sassy, and had me smiling every time she popped up. Definitely my favorite!

And let’s not forget the spice! 🌶️🌶️🌶️ Because when it started spicing, it was SPICING. 😏🔥

Once I got into this book, I was hooked and did NOT want to put it down. A wounded protector, characters I loved, a little sass, and enough spice to keep things interesting? Yep. I’ll take it! 🥵📚❤️

Dual pov, 1st person.

Beautiful second chance romance story with PTSD representation.

When Ray returns to her hometown she reconnects with childhood friend Don, with some flirty and fun banter they soon begin building their relationship.

I mostly enjoyed, a few personal reader icks that knock my rating down a little but nothing against the writing/story, these icks are my own and may not be an issue for others.

I loved Daisy, Ray's daughter so sweet and innocent.

I did think it was a bit out of place when a certain big event happened but the focus for a few chapters was just the relationship/romance with barely any mention of the 'event' until later on.

Overall A fast paced, heartfelt romance.

Such a sweet and charming book! I’ve never read anything by this author before, and I received this book as an ARC, so I wasn’t sure what to expect. I really enjoyed watching Donnie and Ray reconnect and find their happily ever after. It was such a beautiful part of the story.

My only criticism is that there were a few parts that felt a little rushed. I would have loved to see Donnie and Ray rebuild their friendship and connection for a little longer before jumping into a physical relationship. I think that would have made their relationship feel even more meaningful.

Overall, this was a great read, and I can’t wait to read more from this author!

3.5 arc review

This book started so strong but then where Raylas arc got stronger, Donnie's was forgotten for me. The PTSD and his service dog completely disappeared from the storyline and I kept waiting for them to make a reappearance but it never happened.

I also hate when the third act break up gets glossed over. Like make him work to have you again seeing as he threw you away so easily. Please.

Dan has loved Rayla since they were kids but never got the chance to tell her. Now she’s back with her daughter trying to escape her abusive golden boy X. He’s not the same in fighting goes from his military past and she’s been through hell. After 14 years they start to fall for each other. But her ex won’t stay gone, and his demons still haunt him. I love this book. It’s a great addition to this series although each book in the series is a standalone.

This one was a tear jerker in all rhe right ways. Finding yourself in a toxic relationship is hard, living through it only for the sake of your child, even harder. I am so thankful for Liza for representing PTSD and how this can present in different aspects. Highly recommend everyone go download this one now, but be warned you will definitely need some tissues. Triggers include cheating, anxiety, trauma flashbacks, mentions of death and violence, and verbal abuse.

This was such a sweet second chance romance. Look, I've said it before, I'm not the biggest fan of second chance. But when it's done well, I become a liar. This was definitely done well. Plot dragged in a few places or felt perhaps jumbled, but not enough to detract from the story. Their love was beautiful, and I felt it, especially in the epilogue. Both deserved all the happiness, and it took a long road to get there, but it was worth it. A touch of instant love, but throw in a bunch of tension and self-doubt. Very real, very addictive.

Liza Bee has been a favorite author of mine for some time. However, the books that I love from her usually hold a paranormal aspect. Her Wounded Protector is a fantastic contemporary romance that I loved reading. It holds so much emotion and heartache, yet hope and joy all at the same time. Her characters are deep and layered; making them impossible to not love. A broken MMC, a single mom FMC, and a second chance at something they thought they lost. How could I not love this book?!

Donnie is definitely the strong, quiet type. He holds so much within him and lets it eat at him. He feels so deeply, yet doesn’t want to do anything to make anyone else hurt. Having kept his feelings for his childhood best friend to himself for years, he thinks he lost the chance. Joining the military after high school, he has endured so much and lost more. His journey throughout this book is one of healing, understanding, and letting go. He finally does learn he can’t always be the hero, but when it matters the most, he will always step into that role if needed.

Rayla never forgot her childhood best friend, but didn’t know the secret he was keeping from her all those years. When she needs to be rescued, she is shocked to find Donnie bursting through her door. Now a single mom, she was starting over in a place she felt safe, but Donnie makes her feel other things she hasn’t in a while. Just like Donnie, she is rediscovering who she is and finding her strength again. Donnie supports her through every step, reminding her exactly who she is and what she is capable of.

The connection these two share may already be there due to their childhood, yet the second time around proves to be different and deeper. Donnie isn’t going to lose Rayla again, not this time. Rayla can’t deny the pull she feels towards Donnie. Together they help heal the broken parts of each other by providing each other a safe place to let go. A wonderful story from Liza that absolutely makes me need to read more of her non-paranormal romances in the future.

This book was such an emotional experience. And I loved every line of this story. It was one of the best second chance loves that I have read. It’s so sweet and heartwarming while also showing a darker and more twisted side of relationships. My heart absolutely shattered for everything tease characters go through. The way grief and loss and PTSD were all handled in this book was so respectful and touching. It’s accurate and doesn’t sugar coat anything, but no part feels like it’s there simply for shock or a gimmick. Both Rayla and Donnie went through so much in these pages, and my heart hurt for them. However their meaningful and real connection helped to heal that damage. These two came together in such a strong and beautiful way. The childhood bond they shared was not dimmed by the years they spent apart. And it warmed my soul. Their chemistry also helped with that because it was scorching. Utterly undeniable. Yet it was the way they supported each other and cared for each other in every way possible that cemented them in my very core. They learned to trust again with each other and seeing them repair the hurt in one another made everything worth it. This book was so heartfelt and heartbreaking, and I couldn’t have imagined their story any other way. But I promise you the ending makes everything you go through while reading their story okay in the end. While I wish they didn’t have to deal with what they did it made them exactly who they needed to be together.

This book is a love story that takes 14 years to come together!! the yearning in the story is top notch -let's not mention the daisies-!

Dominic and Rayla were friends who had strong feelings for each other since they were little ( the daisy chain meet cute comes full circle in this story), but fear did not let them express their feelings and they went their separate ways.
For him was a military career that left him with PTSD and damage, he now is back in town and hoping for a quite life.
Rayla went on with life, until she settled with an abusive man who gave her a daugter who she loves. She decides to leave her ex to protect her Daisy, and returns home. A small accident puts her back in the arms of Dominic who cannot believe that 14 years have not diminished the feelings he has for her, and now for Daisy.

Slowly they will have time to get to know each other once again, the adult version of each other, the one who is damanged and dented but still remembers the purity and innocence of their youth. Their reunion is filled with moments, conversations, realizations, and passion. He falls again and now he falls harder for her and her daughter and us willing to do it all to protect her from the man who wants to destroy his new family!

This book follows Donnie and Ray. Ray is a newly divorced single mother dealing with restarting her life and moving on from her abusive ex. Donnie is an ex-military medic turned paramedic dealing with PTSD. He is also Ray's childhood best friend.

This book was so sweet. Who wouldn't want to come home and after one day see their childhood best friend and he's everything you missed about home. Their love story was so genuine and I loved how much they loved each other even with all the time that passed. They each had a whole life separate from each other, but they came back together like nothing happened.

They each went through so much character growth. Ray was starting her life completely over and in my opinion was doing everything right by her daughter. Divorce can be hard, especially when you have an abusive ex who does everything he can to get back at you. And Donnie, with all of the ghosts of his past, was the perfect partner through it. He made his mistakes, but he owned them and was there for her when she needed it the most.

She was ten & I was eleven. But even I knew then that I’d love this girl the rest of my life.

A fast-paced contemporary small town romance that will give you the cozy vibes of a Hallmark film with a dash of spice and mental health advocacy! I truly love how Liza doesn’t shy away from the difficulties of life from being a recently single mom to navigating mental health struggles to the weight of custody battles, while still maintaining a comforting tone that feels akin to a warm hug. Truly a book worth the read.

I enjoyed Her Wounded Protector. I thought Donomie and Rayla had good chemistry and had a connection built from years of friendship, mutual respect and adoration. The little flashbacks into them as kids and those memories were really sweet especially the things they’d continued to carry with them into adulthood. Rayla was such a good person and I really loved how we saw her get back into work and really take some of her power and happiness back as well as buying the dream house she’d always wanted. She was an amazing mum but seeing her get some of her independence back was great to see as well. Donomie was such an amazing man. We saw how supportive of Rayla he was and how much he wanted to be there for her and little Daisy. I really enjoyed learning more about him and would have loved to have delved more into his ptsd and how he dealt with it. Seeing Donomie and Rayla fall in love and really seeing their relationship progress was really good. Overall, this was a sweet little read.

4/5...This was such a sweet, emotional, and heartfelt read. I’m always a sucker for childhood friends-to-lovers and second-chance romance, and this one really delivered on the slow-burn feelings and the what if we’d just said something sooner? angst. The pressed daisy was such a beautiful little emotional detail, too. Don was incredibly easy to root for. I loved the way his struggles were handled and how his story allowed him to be vulnerable without taking away from his strength. Rayla was also a heroine I really admired. She’s been through so much, but she isn’t defined by what happened to her, and I loved watching her find her confidence and sense of self again. The romance had plenty of tenderness, and the family/small-town atmosphere added that cozy feeling I look for in this kind of book. And the seven-year-old matchmaker? Absolutely adorable. Her Wounded Protector by Liza Bee was a sweet, emotional small-town romance that pulled me in from the beginning. I really enjoyed the protective ex-military hero and the way his past shaped his personality and relationships. Beneath his tough exterior, he’s dealing with emotional wounds that make his journey toward trust and love especially touching. The chemistry between the characters was great, and I loved watching their relationship develop. There’s a nice balance of romance, emotion, and small-town charm that kept me turning the pages. Overall, Her Wounded Protector was a heartfelt read with plenty of romantic tension and an ending that left me satisfied.

Don and Rayla were close friends as children/teenagers. But Don also really liked Rayla romantically. But when he saw her with a football player, he figured he would always just be a friend...

Now years later, after a failed marriage, Rayla has moved back to her hometown of Piper Falls. Don lives there also, working as a paramedic, after being discharged.

Don decides he is going to make his feelings known once and for all and sets out to show Ray. I can't believe she never picked up on his feelings when they were younger. But anyway, with the help of Ray's matchmaking daughter Daisy, feelings start to develop!

This is a sweet story and I will be going back into this catalogue to read more from this series!

While she’s been away he has too he joined the Army and came home believing less of himself after he witnessed his best friend die in action.
It’s been fourteen years. Is there anything left of their friendship? What about feelings?

There’s something about the phrase “he has loved her since they were kids” that always resonates with me.

Rayla returns to Piper Falls with her daughter after leaving an emotionally abusive marriage. The last person she expects to reconnect with is Donnie, her childhood best friend.
