I've read a couple of books by this author now and I do like the way she writes. Her sense of humour and wit also works well on page.
In this book we are following Maggie and Flick. Maggie is in her late forties when we met her, she's living in a damp caravan on a friend's field.
Flick is mid twenties, she a journalist at a local newspaper and trying to get a break, there's only so long she can write about pole dancing pensioners.
When these two lives collide, we are treated to a road trip around Europe.
I think this particular trope makes a fairly unsurprising plot line, it was obvious from early on where this was going however it was fun, action packed and I enjoyed the read.
If you enjoyed watching Inventing Anna or The Tinder Swindler, you will enjoy this book.
Four stars.

This was such an enjoyable read! I am a huge mood reader and know it almost certainly would have been a 5⭐ read had I been reading it when I was on holiday somewhere sunny. But reading a book set exploring Italy, Spain, and Portugal while shivering in Scotland in December was still fun!
I loved Flick and Maggie's friendship. They were both great characters with their own storyline but them coming together made so happy.
Alexandra Potter always writes such beautifully uplifting stories full of hope and this was no exception!
I definitely recommend this read and know I will be buying a copy for my mum when it's released next month!

My apologies to the author for such a late review.
This was really good fun with a serious undercurrent. A quick read/listen that was sweet heartfelt and funny. I loved the age gap friendship that blossomed between our twi fmcs and can see this playing well for the big screen. A nice distraction from the world. Well written and narrated beautifully!

A new Alexandra Potter book! With a brilliant title and catchy cover! So excited...!
Yes, I was excited. Until I started reading it. Already from the beginning I had problems with getting into the book, into the characters' heads, to get on with the writing style. I hoped, OK, the more I read, the better it will be. It wasn't. I can't remember when I've read such a weak book - really. It pains me, it makes me sad because, you know, Alexandra Potter! But this book was one huge mistake for me. Nothing worked there. The plot was absolutely under - developed, there was nothing happening, the characters were wooden and everything seemed so forced. Billed as a romantic comedy, but I found neither romance nor comedy - this is why I don't trust the quotes on the cover anymore. The plot was faaaaar too stretched and unbelievable and as much as I enjoy a little craziness, it was another level of farcical.
I get what the author wanted to tell us with this book and the subject is a very important one, but really, eventually I couldn't care less about what's going to happen to Maggie and Flick and what's his name. I had a feeling we are turning in circles and that the author's heart was not there among the pages.
Nevertheless, if you think you need a book about finding yourself after a big crash, about gaining confidence and feeling sure in your own skin again, set in a south of sunny Europe, try this one.

Maggie Fletcher has been left with nothing after her fiancé, Theo, disappeared along with all her money, her father’s watch, and her self esteem. Having been forced to trade her comfortable flat for a shabby caravan in the middle of a farmer’s field, all Maggie wants is to be left alone.

Maggie is a sympathetic character whom Potter portrays with compassion. It is lovely to witness Maggie slowly realise that the shame and humiliation of Theo’s betrayal is not hers to carry. Hundreds of thousands of women (and men) fall victim to romance fraudsters across the globe every year, and while the financial loss is estimated to be in the billions, it is the personal betrayal that exacts a higher price. Maggie was left shattered by Theo’s duplicity, not only was she financially decimated resulting in the loss of her home and business, Theo also stole her pride, her confidence, and her ability to trust anyone, including herself.
It’s equally gratifying to see Flick develop confidence in what she wants for her future, especially in terms of her relationship. Her tenacity and fake-it-til-you-make-it approach is an admirable trait for a reporter, and a good foil to Maggie’s equivocation.
The friendship that develops between Flick and Maggie, despite their disparate ages, is a highlight of the novel. I enjoyed their banter, and almost felt like I was accompanying them on their adventure. There’s also a twist to their relationship that adds a surprise to what may have otherwise been a predictable storyline.
Written with humour, warmth and compassion So, I Met This Guy… by Alexandra Potter is a well paced read that offers fun, adventure, and justice.

I've enjoyed listening to this one. It made me LOL a few times. While the initial goal is confronting the con man for justice, the journey ultimately forces both women to rediscover themselves, their confidence, and their inner strength.

In this novel, Maggie is almost 50 and living with literally nothing after the con man she thought was her fiancé stole all her money. She is approached by 20something journalist Flick who works for a very small local paper, but proposes to Maggie that she work with her to write a story about romance fraud. And before long, the two of them are gallivanting around Europe trying to track the con man down - but more importantly, developing a wonderful friendship that gives them both confidence.
I try to go into books mostly blind so I didn’t really know much about this one going in and assumed it was a rom com which it is not at all, though it does have the light breezy tone of what we used to call “chick lit.” It was a really fun and different read - loved the capers, loved the fun travelogue, and most of all loved the unlikely friendship that developed between Flick and Maggie.

This was such a fun road trip as two women, one aged 50 and the in her late 20s, chase a romance fraudster across Europe. So, I Met This Guy is not at all the romance I expected it to be. It's much more about finding yourself, and I loved its exploration of female as well as intergenerational friendships.
Maggie (nearly 50) and Flick (27) are such opposites, and I loved their united front to gain retribution against the man who stole Maggie's heart, her home, and her life savings. Their friendship is absolutely charming and delightful, and it grows exponentially as they crisscross Europe from Monte Carlo to Rome to Ibiza and to Valencia, Sicily, and Morocco.
Maggie is completely sympathetic and is portrayed with warmth and compassion. I loved watching her grow into herself and understand that the Theo’s betrayal says much more about him than her. Flick was young and full of energy, struggling to the right path for her career as well as her romantic relationship. Filled with friendship and humor, Maggie and Flick learn it's not just about finding the guy but finding themselves.

I absolutely adored this book. It’s about women from multiple generations connecting to take down a con man, but ends up being about so much more. I don’t want to spoil a single thing, I just want you all to go read it! Perfect end to my summer of reading. 🥰

This was a really enjoyable read even though it was pretty obvious which direction the plot was going to go in. I especially loved the friendship between Flick & Maggie that was definitely the highlight of the book for me.
This was my first read by Alexandra Potter and I thought she was a great author; her humour genuinely made me laugh out loud. I was lucky enough to receive an e- & audio ARC of this book & I thought the narrator did an excellent job they really kept me intrigued throughout. I can 100% see this being a big summer read, perfect for a sunny afternoon.

This was a great story of female friendship and women getting revenge on despicable men. Maggie is about to turn 50 and living out of her van after getting scammed out of all of her money by a romance fraudster. Felicity is a 26 year old reporter looking for a story that will give her a big career break.
Together the two women embark on a life-changing road trip across Europe trying to track down the man who robbed Maggie and get some justice. Neither expects to find a life long friendship and even a little romance among all the exciting tourist spots they visit.
Great on audio, this story had me tearing up and roaring in triumph. There was also a few twists I didn’t see coming and a fun reverse con heist ending that had me cackling. 10/10 recommend for all the fans of feminist stories about older women.
Together the two women embark on a life-changing road trip across Europe trying to track down the man who robbed Maggie and get some justice. Neither expects to find a life long friendship and even a little romance among all the exciting tourist spots they visit.
Great on audio, this story had me tearing up and roaring in triumph. There was also a few twists I didn’t see coming and a fun reverse con heist ending that had me cackling. 10/10 recommend for all the fans of feminist stories about older women.

This book was so entertaining - it reminded me of a cross between Thelma & Louise and Shirley Valentine. Following the story of a 49 year old woman who has been recently affected by romance fraud, and a journalist in her 20s, this story took the women from Monte Carlo to Tangier in the name of making someone accountable.
I loved all of the characters in this book. Being in my early 40s I still related to Maggie, our 49 year old protagonist, much more than to Flick, the energetic eco conscious journalist. I too am constantly having to explain pop-culture references to my younger colleagues! But out of all the characters, my favourite was George, Maggie’s best friend, who reminded me of a Richard Curtis character, in all the best ways.
The story takes you on a trip from Monte Carlo to Rome, to the Amalfi Coast and Ibiza, and onwards. During your journey, you get to sample the atmosphere of each of the places they visit, as well as learning about the character’s present and past. I have visited quite a few of the places Maggie and Flick travelled to and it was almost like revisiting them again.
This book was a good time from start to end. At no point was I bored or wishing for more action. I highly recommend it to anyone who likes to read about real life and the fallout of its darker side (but not too dark), but also the bonds of women and our resilience.

Love a good dose of Alexandra Potter. I’ve been reading her books for over 12 years so I was looking forward to this one. This book wasn’t quite the same humour level as confessions of a 40 something but there was more raw emotion. The story tracks Maggie who has lost everything to a lovebomb fraudster and Flick a junior journalist looking for her big break as they journey into the unknown to catch Theo and bring him to justice.
I loved the friendship Maggie and Flick built. A couple of great twists in the story. Another great read by Potter. I’m ready to go back through her back catalogue to find my next adventure.

Cute story. A middle aged woman falls for a romance fraudster who ends up taking her business, her home, and her life savings while professing to love her and wanting to marry her. A young reporter meets Maggie who has nothing to her name now. She convinces her to go on a wild European chase to try to catch the culprit. Lots of adventures and laughs. A little slow at times, but overall a fun read.

This was my first book by this author and I have to say that I enjoyed her style of writing.
I loved the friendship of the two main characters, Maggie and Flick. The book had humor, which is a bonus when it comes to the background of the story and made it the perfect read for me.
I also love when a book grabs my attention to the point where all I want to do is read all day and this book certainly did that!
Highly recommend this book!

this book felt like a love letter to all the women and girls figuring out their lives… (me essentially)
reading this book was just like watching a documentary, you know the ones on romance fraud? we follow Flick a mid-twenties, local paper journalist who is looking for a big break. i mean she can’t continue writing about pole dancing pensioners right?
and there’s Maggie — mid forties, living in the middle of nowhere in her caravan, left basically homeless after her ex boyfriend’s fraud wiped out everything she had. as these two come together, we follow their trip across Europe as they hunt down Maggie’s ex…
i absolutely came to love the relationship between Flick and Maggie🥹 they were both such amazing characters with their own problems & storylines, but when joined together they were the epitome of girlhood.
this was the first book i’ve read from Alexandra Potter, and i fell in love with her witty humour! her writing was so beautiful and uplifting — this book truly couldn’t have come to me at a more perfect time🌟
