Tomorrow It’s You is a character-driven psychological mystery set in a private villa compound in Dubai, which honestly made for a refreshing change of setting. The story alternates between Naseem investigating Rebecca’s death in 2021 and Rebecca’s diary entries from 2005, which slowly piece together life inside the compound and its residents.

The diary structure works really well. Rebecca’s impressions of her neighbours start off fairly casual, almost observational, but over time they become more judgemental and suspicious, which also influences how you view everyone else. It kind of feels like a more chaotic, modern Melrose Place, where everyone has something to hide but no one can really step outside the circle without consequences.

The Dubai setting was a real highlight for me and added something different compared to what I’m used to. The heat, wealth, and cultural mix are described in enough detail that you can easily picture it, and the compound itself feels like a closed-off world.

From the get-go, it’s clear almost everyone has some kind of secret or past they’re trying to keep buried, which creates a real whodunit feel. I found myself visualising an evidence board and trying to piece everything together as it went along.

In the end, I enjoyed the premise and the setting more than the execution at times. The atmosphere and structure are strong, but the pacing lulls in a few places and I found my thoughts wandering. Still, it’s a solid read if you like slow-burning psychological mysteries with a strong character focus rather than action-heavy thrillers.

I received a free copy of this book from BookSirens in exchange for an honest review.

This is an interesting and diabolical book about the murder of teacher in Dubai. The events are triggered by a plan carried out 15 years before by a group of catty women that resulted in manslaughter. Their acts remained hidden for years.

I think the book is a well written mystery. The translation seemed a bit off in some places but not to the point of substantially distracting from the story. My biggest issue is that I disliked every single character. Desires for infidelity and catty backstabbing vicious behavior from the women were a distinct turn off. I could go on but it would involve spoilers. It reminded me of a telenovella.

I enjoyed the mystery. The setting was unique. I disliked the petty needs and lusts of the characters. However, since it is a first-time book, I would probably give this author another shot.

Tomorrow, It’s You opens with an intriguing, almost voyeuristic premise, drawing readers into the seemingly polished world of a luxurious villa compound where nothing is quite as perfect as it appears. Through diary entries and shifting perspectives particularly Rebecca’s observant and quietly critical lens, the narrative immerses readers in the private lives, tensions, and unspoken judgments of its residents. As the long-buried secrets begin to surface, the story gets more interesting.

At the center of the story is Maria, whose past refuses to stay buried. Sixteen years after making peace with a shocking crime she once hid, her world is shaken when a neighbor is found dead under mysterious circumstances. A revelation from Hassan, a trusted forensic doctor and family friend, confirms that the situation is far more serious than it seems. Maria suspects a connection between the murder and her own past, but speaking out could destroy everything she has built.

The quiet unease of the villa, filled with gossip, eccentric personalities, and whispered rumors, transforms into a nerve-wracking race against time as Maria tries to outsmart an unseen threat. Tomorrow, It’s You is a layered psychological mystery that explores guilt, perception, and the inescapable pull of the past, making it a satisfying read for fans of character-driven suspense.

I picked this up because Dubai is one of my dream vacation spots, and I’ve never read a book based there before. The book was culturally rich, especially when it came to the food. I loved learning about the different teas, spices, snacks, and little details of the setting.

I was definitely curious about what really happened to Rebecca and how the past connected to the present. My only issue was that it dragged in some places. This could’ve been a four-star read for me with some tightening, or if the filler parts had been made more interesting.

Otherwise, an okay/good-ish read. I’d like to read more from this author, especially if her books are based in the Middle East.

Mixed but mostly positive feelings. A clever mystery with a unique setting. 3.4/5.

A psychological thriller set in Dubai, I couldn't put down. The story is written from different perspectives and follows different timelines which creates a lot of tension and suspense. There's a cliffhanger at the end of every chapter. Maria, a German expat in Dubai has her whole life turned upside down when her neighbor dies under suspicious circumstances. She believes it is murder, but she can't tell the police as she was involved in a crime herself, many years ago. Read till the very end, there's a huge surprise in the last pages!
