When the rom-com starlet finds herself in a very public divorce from her A-list husband, Lee does what any rational actor would do - she disappears to Edinburgh to become 'plain old Natalie'.
Back in the city she loves and escaping the media spotlight, Natalie swaps her designer heels for a barista apron and bags a job at local café, run by the charming but guarded, Nick.
Nick has sworn off love indefinitely. He has enough on his plate as it is, keeping the business afloat, the regulars happy, and teaching his clumsy new employee the ropes – even if she does have the most captivating smile he's ever seen. The last thing he needs is someone to bring back to life all the parts of him that he thought he'd forgotten altogether.
As steam rises from more than just the espresso machine, their connection deepens into something neither of them expected. But when Natalie's past turns up on the doorstep, she has to decide whether she can play this role forever or whether some stories just aren't meant to have a Hollywood ending.
Perfect for fans of Katy Summers and Hannah Bonham-Young, LOVE AT FIRST LATTE is a heartwarming romance about second chances, and the unexpected magic that can happen over a perfectly brewed cup of coffee.
Free on Audible and SO worth the listen!!! Wholesome, cozy, and immersive story! Great characters! Super charming narration! I thoroughly enjoyed this one! It reminded me a bit of a Sarah Adams or Abby Jimenez book - both of which I love.
2 / 5 ⭐ 3 / 5 🌶️ Third Person POV 👀 Spicy chapters: 27, 31, 33, 34, 37 🔥 Nick (MMC) and Natalie (FMC)
When I picked up this hook I was expecting an adventure, yet I found a book lacking on pretty much everything. The plotline is unoriginal, the MMC's charmless, and quite frankly the story is utterly unrealistic and borderline boring. It took me ages to finish this one, and was tempted to DNF multiple times... 😓.
First of all, why is Natalie putting up with grumpy Nick's rudeness when working at the cafe? I understand that he's hot, but SHE is a superstar, mega hot, award winning actress (aka: too good for him)... 🤦🏼♀️🤷🏼♀️. Then, the first time that they kiss, it is Natalie who initiates which, hello? in what universe? especially after he's been nothing but rude to her?? Is that her kink or wtf??? 🤯
Speaking of rude, why is Natalie so nasty towards her ex Alec, when he's nothing but kind, friendly and caring? 😖😒.
Back to the MMC: he is pushing away everyone that cares for him by being an *ss h*le, yet somehow justifies it to himself as the victim because "he's not good enough, and always ends updissapointing everyone". 🤨 Calm down Nick, the world doesn't revolve around you 😒. Nick is passive, uncomunicative and insecure... all charming traits... they are NOT.
The lack of communication on the MMC's part is baffling and exhausting to read about, quite frankly. The first time that he gets intimate with Natalie he starts speaking about his ex 🤦🏼♀️🤦🏼♀️🤦🏼♀️ great timing, buddy 🤨🙃.
As mentioned, the FMC is not much better, and imo unrelatable: Natalie is a nepo-baby who behaves rudely towards her family (who only worry and care about her). She's also antagonistic towards her ex husband who for some inexplicable reason is still pining after her (even when Natalie rejects him over and over again). She's unprofessional towards her agent, whom she decides to ignore for ages when she doesn't get the exact role that she wanted... and we, as readers are supposed to cheer for her... why exactly?? 🤔
In conclusion, if you want to read a story about an entitled, nepo-baby actress who chases down a rude MMC until he finally gives in, then pickup this book. I wish I would've skipped this one 😮💨.
Fantastic story. Loved the characters, loved the story, loved the writing! I am usually a g-rated romance guy and this was definitely not a g-rated but I looked past that as it was adorable! Super quick read and lots of emotion and development of plot. I highly recommend it!
I stopped the book and DNF'd at the point Alec came to the coffee shop to talk to our FMC. The author needs to do way more to explain why Natalie/Lee split from her ex before I would be interested in finishing this story. The only explanation we've gotten so far is that Natalie/Lee thought they "weren't right for each other." In every scene where Alec is mentioned or interacts with Natalie, he is concerned about her and still loves her. The concern and love Alec shows for Natalie and the love her parents have for him indicate that, in the real world, their marriage is something worth fighting for.
We so far know absolutely nothing about the tragic events that have made Nick the closed-off and miserable person he is other than he had a bad prior relationship and his parents died.
The book so far has consisted almost exclusively of scenes of almost-kisses, making coffee, Natalie feeling sorry for herself, and Nick being grumpy. I have better uses for my time than continuing to listen to more of the same.
Loved this! It was a free listen on Audible with very few reviews but they were positive so I gave it a shot and I'm happy I did! Both MCs were likeable and had shortcomings. And the side characters were great (even the ones you don't like are well done). I have mixed opinions about the conflicts in the story, but I am happy with the resolutions. I appreciated the various kinds of representation present in the book and especially liked that these were present without being a constant topic of discussion among the characters. There is on page sexual content, but I felt it was thoughtful and demonstrated the increasing emotional intimacy as much as the physical between the MCs.
Content warnings: references to verbal/emotional intimate partner violence and resulting trauma
So what I will say is that I really enjoyed this book. Why? Sam and Petra. Ask me to show you strong female leads I will show you Sam and Petra whose friendship is separate and enduring from the 'Nicale' drama. Natalie buying the building for Nick when he and the gang have achieved it seemed like a real Fuck You to the team and their accomplishment. I cannot get over this which is where it loses a star for me.

Secrets create strife Nick the Cafe owner finds Natalie soaked by a cab in the Scotland Rain. He is a hider, an emotional man with a past different then you would imagine. Natalie is an actress running from her life to find peace, to find relaxation. They meet and everything starts to build. This is a super cute story with 🌶🌶. Natalie never truly loved and Nick longing for someone to love him properly. 18+ bc of 🌶 but the storyline is very well done.
There were things I liked, there were things I haven't believed for a second, there were also some confusing bits (e.g. how come it is never mentioned that a woman from LA speaks wildly different than people in Edinburgh, how could it be just ommited), and there were also sweet and believable moments. Oh, and it needs to be mentioned that there are explicit scenes.
The cozy Edinburgh cafe setting, charming characters, and excellent dual narration made it a delightful listen. The story is sweet, heartwarming, and easy to get lost in. After finishing a long fantasy series, this was exactly the palate cleanser I needed. It was light, uplifting, and full of feel-good moments.
3.5 ⭐️ cute and heartwarming! i thought the chemistry between the main characters was good, the humor witty, and overall the plot moved at a steady pace. i felt there were aspects of the story that were missing, but it didn’t impact me so much to cause me to dnf. it’s an fun audiobook and i’m happy i listened to it!! ☕️🎬💞✨
This book felt like a warm hug! And it kept me giggling and kicking my feet throughout. Natalie and Nick had such good chemistry - if you want a swoon-worthy, hilarious and wholesome read, this is it!!
I didn’t hate this book it just wasn’t for me. It was really typical and had nothing going for it. I didn’t like any of the characters although I liked that she was friends with her ex, it was refreshing.
Super surprised by the low rating. This book was well written, lots of character development and endearing characters! I absolutely adored this! I did not appreciate the super-spicy content but other than that was fantastic.
I really enjoyed this book! I was coming off of a deep emotional read and this was exactly what I needed. I loved the character development especially Nick and his vulnerability regarding his previous relationship. It’s definitely worth your time!!
***Audible Review**** The female narrator killed this story. She sounded like a robot and put no emotion into the character…stopped at 25% because it was boring AF. I may try reading.
I really loved this book. It was so sweet. A bit of a Notting Hill vibe to it, but grumpy cafe owner falls in love with a star, unbeknownst to him. I'm really hoping the next book is Sam and Alec.
