Leave This Place

Rate this book
Silas wakes with a start in the middle of the night, feeling a suffocating sense of unease -- as if he's being watched. His wife is asleep. He scans the bedroom of their rented holiday cottage, a spooky and unfamiliar place.

He makes out something in the dark. On the chair in the corner of the room. What the...? He's mistaken, surely. It's his over-active imagination. A trick of the moonlight. No. Someone's there - an old man. Sitting there, staring back at him. With a terrifying grin on his face...

Featuring two characters in one location over the space of three days, Leave This Place is a stripped down, unnerving tale of quiet horror from the mind of supernatural thriller author Spike Black (Don’t Look Inside).

So So

I found this book hard to get into. It seems as though it was not prof read for continuity, and I had trouble picturing what the characters looked like and what the cottage floor plan was. The story itself was okay, but I would have liked a little more effort given to the last 25% of the story and less to the other 75%. I read this book because I loved his first one. I am going to read another so I can make an educated decision on if I like Mr. Blacks books. I hope he has written more like his 1st.

Spike Black's "Leave This Place" offers a wonderful and creepy ghost story. Black's writing style always keeps the reader on his/her toes, as it's nearly impossible to predict where the story will go. I really enjoyed the connection to his prior work, "Don't Look Inside" in that it helped to give the setting a truly disturbing feel.

Excellent,well written story.

The characters are well rounded and believable.. They make you feel as if you are experiencing events with them.. The plot contains familiar elements with something new and keeps you guessing up to the final climax..

Very Good Haunted House Book

Clever take on a haunted house. Could have used mire closure, but that in itself is also an impact ful literary tool. Definitely recommend. The second book I've read by this author, and I will read more.

I received a free copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.
I am definitely a huge fan of this author. Don't Look Inside is also written by him and has very similar characteristics in writing style. He has a very unique way of taking a concept and causing the reader to sleep with the lights on!
There have been some extremely talented writers in the past, but as an evolving adult, my tastes are starting to change and I have managed to find an author who has an incredible imagination!

Silas and Oona get away for the week to a cottage in Yorkshire. Silas needs a relaxing time to decompress from stress that he faced on his job, but almost from the moment they arrive strange things begin to occur. From the weird cat who keeps showing up, to the eerie picture of the old man, to moving furniture they begin to think they are going crazy. Will they heed the warning to Leave This Place. A great creepy, well written book.

I think I may have horror burn out. This was a good story, but for some reason it just didn't trip my trigger. I don't blame the author- I think I am just burnt out on scary for now. The writing did remind me of Graham Masterton, who is one of my favorite all time authors. Looking forward to reading more of Mr. Black's works in the future.

While this story was short and somewhat predictable, the imagery of the ghostly interactions coupled with the intensity of the ending is enough to scare even the most seasoned horror fan. What it lacks in length and detail it makes up for in terrifying scenarios. Would recommend for a quick, chilling read that leaves an impression.

Great book

It was an easy read that is really easy to motor through quickly. The characters are believe able and the premise is really intriguing. I truly enjoyed this creepy ghost story. Well done! I only gave it 4 stars because it was quite short and some things could've been developed a bit more. I'll be purchasing more from Spike Black.

Little Disappointed

I chose this rating because I got a bit bored with this one. It wasn't a grab a hold of you can't wait to see what happens book for me. I will still continue to read books by this Author if he can bring me back to a heart pounding journey.

Another good read from Spike Black

Black definitely knows how how to get you to keep turning the pages. When it was all said and done this story was more b-horror movie kind of scares than his other book "Don't open this book". Either way, I'm in for whatever he writes next.

Didn't really catch my attention - the story had a lot of promise but I felt like it never found its groove/delivered. Definitely a "Hallmark Horror."

I DID feel like I was in an episode of the Big Bang Theory when the author expertly dropped in "post-coital" about halfway through the book.

A quick, sinister read I grabbed for free by signing up with the author's website. I'd rate it a 3.5, only because I found myself easily distracted while reading it. I like to be engulfed when I'm reading, and for some reason, this one just fell short on that front.

A wee bit light

Not a bad story told decently but not much depth to it. I kept waiting for something to really hook me but it never did. I could have out out it down at any point.

Not bad. It's a basic haunted house/ghost story. It was easy to read and I got through it pretty quickly. Good for an 'in-between books' palate cleanser.

This was a somewhat short but very creepy novel. In fact, I was reading it in the early morning before daylight and got so creeped out that I quit reading until I could walk around in the daylight hours and get my head back straight. !! That's pretty bad when you have to leave a book for awhile because it is haunting you.
I do recommend Spike Black the author for those of you who are true horror fans.
