The Salt Grows Heavy: HA! This book should have come with a thesaurus. Not that I would have bothered to use it, because every overly intricate word choice pulled me right out of the story. Stopping every other sentence to look something up would have completely defeated the purpose of trying to enjoy the book in the first place.
Honestly, I am not even convinced some of the vocabulary was used correctly. The entire thing felt like a disaster of purple prose — as if the author was desperate to prove they do, in fact, own a thesaurus. “Oh look at all these words I found.”
Which is a shame, because buried underneath all the convoluted writing was a genuinely interesting story. Unfortunately, the prose was so excessive and self-indulgent that it completely overshadowed anything compelling the narrative might have been trying to do. I am genuinely irritated that I wasted both time and money on this complete mess.
