As someone who reads a LOT of books, Missing Ivy is definitely in my top 10 of the year! From the beginning, you’re immersed into a world of dimensional characters, romantic tension (big fan of), and a mystery that makes it nearly impossible to put the book down. Nick and Maria do such a fantastic job of making the reader feel like they’re living in the pages with these characters. You know a book is good when you can really feel the emotions that the characters are experiencing! I loved the complexity of Ella and Nathan’s relationship, and how it evolved throughout the story. You’ll laugh, cry, and even get frustrated at times for these characters, but in the end you won’t regret reading Missing Ivy!!

Hold up. This is a debut romance? A DEBUT?? Sorry for screaming, but, oh my freaking holy wow! This reads like a comfortable, relaxed, seasoned romance with perfect little pops of irreverence, and it had me gobbling it up in one sitting and hanging on every word.
The storyline, the pacing, the character arcs, the drama and suspense, the emotional depth. I can’t believe this isn’t something from an author duo with twenty romances under their belt. That it's a husband and wife team makes it even sweeter, and the pieces of themselves they leave on the page shine through.
It's honest and authentic. Both Nathan and Ella are so relatable – two flawed humans with layers and vulnerabilities who life has knocked over, but they keep showing up. And giving us two very realistic but different responses to life's challenges – a vital reminder that dealing with trauma and grief is an individual process. The fictional world is full and vibrant, and the secondary characters add life and depth.
This is a story that didn’t try too hard but then met and exceeded all possible expectations. And the tight writing usually lacking in a new storyteller with something to prove made it feel like this read itself. It made my brain immensely happy and left my heart with a satisfied sigh. I'll be eagerly awaiting more while you do yourself a favor and escape into this phenomenal romantic suspense.

This is one of the best books I’ve ever read and I love to read. You feel EVERY different emotion these characters are feeling. I laughed. I cried. Sadness. Happiness. Frustration. Humor. Anxiety. Anticipation. Smiles. Thrill. Goosebumps. Excitement. You get so hooked and pulled into this story that you feel like you’re a part of it. Your heart becomes these people. Thank you Nick and Maria. I’ll be reading your next book as soon as it comes out. Missing Ivy goes into my list of favorite books and I’ll definitely read it again!!!

As an avid reader I can definitely say this one kept me wanting more! You can’t help loving each character and their development throughout the story. Suspenseful, sexy, fun, emotional and beautiful Missing Ivy is one of my favourite books I’ve read this year!

Nathan Reign lost someone special to him three years ago with no resolve on what happened. He is currently just living through the tasks of the day with few connections to the world around him. Ella lives in the same building as Nathan and always wondered about the recluse handsome man living there. When someone seems to be following her one night Nathan goes from observer to something else but is conflicted on his feelings. I don’t want to say much more as this is better going in blind. I will say this is a story about healing & finding yourself again after grief interwoven with a slowly building mystery. A very enjoyable and at times touching story. Told in first person and dual POV.

This book definitely kept my attention, and the audiobook was entertaining enough that I wanted to keep listening to find out what happened. I could have done without the random sound effects though.
My biggest issue was that it felt like I was reading two completely different books. Ella’s chapters had the feel of a light rom-com, while Nathan’s chapters were much more mystery/suspense. The shift between the two was a little jarring and made the overall tone feel inconsistent.
I also didn’t buy into Nathan and Ella’s relationship. It felt like they went from barely exchanging seven words to constantly making out, without much development in between. Because their relationship lacked a strong foundation, it was hard to root for them as a couple.
Finally, I felt there were some plot holes throughout the book. I liked the structure of Nathan reliving his past relationship, but I felt like we never really got the full story of him and Madison.
Overall, I enjoyed the ride and was entertained throughout, but the uneven tone, underdeveloped romance, and lingering plot holes kept this from being more than a 3-star read for me.

FIRST OFF (and most importantly)…I am NOT an arc reader. 📕
I wasn’t given a free copy to read and review. I’m just an avid reader of books. And this just so happened to be my 170th (finished) book of the year. I’ve read some really great books this year…and some REALLY terrible ones too. I’ve even DNF more than usual because let’s be honest…our time is not infinite and who wants to waste it on crappy books.
I organically stumbled upon Missing Ivy from a random doom scroll moment on Facebook stories/clips/videos or whatever they’re called. Or maybe it was instagram? Ok I digressed…anyways on a whim I purchased both book and audiobook. I’m an immersive reader and like to read and listen. Sometimes just listen when I can’t read. And sometimes read when I can’t listen.
I was pleasantly surprised 🙌🏼 by how well written this book was for these authors first book release. The story kept my attention and I genuinely wanted to keep turning pages (or technically swiping right on my kindle 🤪). Is it the best thing I’ve ever read? No. Wasn’t it the worst? Absolutely not. It was just a nice SOLID read. And let’s be honest, as readers that is what we truly ask of authors. Just give us a good story. Make us leave reality behind for just a little while and immerse us in the art of storytelling. This couple (the authors) delivered on that and for me, that was perfect.
My feedback…only because feedback is how we grow….is as follows:
1. This was likely intentional by the author, but I would have loved more from the s3x scenes. Do I need it to always be a porno on page, no. But there is a classy way to write these scenes that helps build more intimacy between the characters on the page. I just needed a little bit more from both of them to feel like they had a true emotion connection. It would have helped readers to not feel like Ella was so one-sidedly obsessed. Plus I typically avoid YA novels and this one just really didn’t feel like it belonged in the YA category where I would relegate this to.
2. Minor comment….i would have like an explanation as to why Ella didn’t go directly to the police, even after it was questioned why she hadn’t/should have. Maybe it’s self-explanatory, but I would have appreciated that answered on the page. And although we know where Ella met (and technically saved) Maddison, it would have been nice for that to be have been disclosed out in the open to Nathan and Maddison in some way.
3. I wish it was more clear how much time Ella spent in Africa. It felt a bit rushed from Nathan saying he wasn’t ready for a relationship, to her getting back and declaring his love.
4. I definitely wanted more from the epilogue (because I was invested in the character’s happiness). Maybe we will get more on Nathan & Ella’s future together in book 2, but I’d love to know more of what that looked like with Ivy.
5. Final feedback (audiobook related). I LOVED 💞 that they narrated their own book. HUGE props for pulling this off successfully. Only thing I would have liked to see is, if you’re going to make it like a graphic audiobook (with sound effects), then full on commit. We got a little taste of it and I was left wanting more. And I’d like just a bit more vocal inflection and emotion from Nick as a narrator. I didn’t hate it and it wasn’t like listening to popular narrators like Teddy Hamilton whose voice is like nails on a chalk board cringey to me. Nick’s voice is pleasant and I think with time, he’s going to get so much better.

It got delivered in the evening and I finished it at 2:44 AM because I just couldn't stop reading!
I loved ALL the characters. I can't even decide who's my favorite and I felt SO many emotions throughout the book! There were so many lines and deeper meanings that are still stuck with me, and I love that.
When a story stays with you even after you've finished reading, you know it was REALLY good.
The story touched me in so many different ways
and while reading it, I actually felt something in my chest and stomach. I laughed, shed some tears and felt completely immersed in the story.
The book really captivated me!
Also you could feel how much heart and passion went into the story and the book overall.
Besides that I just LOVED the way Maria and Nick wrote it!!! They created something so amazing, so special, so great and so beautiful, I honestly have no words for that.
They were made to be authors!
I can't wait for the next book to come out!!!

Really enjoyed Missing Ivy
A really good first in a series (to come) of stories. The characters are believable and engaging. The relationship between Ella and Ashton is one everyone would like to have. Nathan and Bishop are great life-long friends with a healthy relationship. The suspense builds slowly and isn't trite or kitschy when resolved. Overall this a great lead with lots of layers. Highly recommended.

ARC Review for Book Sirens
I am going to say 3.5 starts for this one. I am torn on this review. I believe these authors have great potential but this one missed the mark a bit. I feel like nothing happened until 60% in and then the rest of the book felt so rushed.
There were also quite a few moments where I wasn’t exactly clear what has happening between the main characters. You don’t have to go into graphic details but the scenes involving intimacy between the main characters are rushed and confusing.
I would love a little more depth to the story. The concept is great. This storyline and characters are very interesting. I will give them another chance with Bishop’s book.

Dude! I felt so frustrated for Nathan!! I was like come on just show her a little more attention! Why are you kind of stand off 'ish'?! Every time you thought you get a little insight to why he was the way he was, nothing. Teasers! I tell you. I get it though. Thats the way the character was going. In the end everything worked out the way it was suppose to. Beautifully written, great plot, awesome characters with some witty one liners. Definitely 5 star read. Would love to see whats next.

MISSING IVY by Nick & Maria Bateman really surprised me, especially as a debut novel. The beginning was a bit slower, but it definitely made me curious. Around the 40–50% mark it became SO addicting. I almost finished the rest in one sitting because I just needed answers. I wanted to know what had happened and how everyone ended up where they were.
I do feel like I probably missed some hints along the way, but maybe that's all part of the setup for the next book, which already sounds really interesting.
I personally wished there was a bit more connection between the characters, as I wanted to feel even more invested in them. But Nathan's character development and emotional journey were honestly beautiful and heartbreaking at the same time. His growth was definitely one of my favourite parts of the story.
Overall, this was a really strong debut, and I'm excited to see where the authors take the series next.

Missing Ivy is an emotional and engaging novel that kept me invested from beginning to end. Nick and Maria does an excellent job creating characters that feel realistic and relatable, making it easy to connect with their struggles, emotions, and personal growth throughout the story.

I would highly recommend it to readers who enjoy emotionally driven stories that stay with you long after you've turned the last page. Can’t wait for Bishop’s story.

Missing Ivy took me on an emotional journey I wasn't expecting. At first, I found myself frustrated with Nathan and questioning many of his decisions, but as the story unfolded and more pieces of his past were revealed, I realized how carefully everything had been written. I formed theories, changed my mind more than once, and became completely invested in the mystery. By the final chapters I wasn't just reading a mystery—I was hoping with the characters. The ending left me with a full heart, and I'm already looking forward to Book Two. Thank you for creating a story that reminded me why I fell in love with reading in the first place.

If you are looking for a book that will lock you in and have you cancelling plans just to finish it, this is it! I haven't enjoyed a book this much since the Housemaid & Verity! Missing Ivy is a gripping, page-turning thriller that captivates you from the very first chapter. What really impressed me was the characters are wonderfully complex (SO realistic) ,and while the book tackles heavy themes of grief and loss, it amazingly managed to remain lighthearted, whimsical, and fun throughout. Plus, that plot twist was not obvious at all, totally caught me off guard. Highly recommend. What an impressive debute for Nick and Maria. I absolutely cannot wait for the next book in the series. Clear your schedule before you open this one!

Wow! I really didn't know what to expect with this one but I found it through Nick's TikTok and am so pleased! So many twists & gut wrenching moments. Crazy this was a debut novel! Excited for book 2 because that ending, wow!

Missing Ivy is one of the best books I have read! It is a great mix of suspense, mystery and romance and each page will have you hooked and captivated to find out more about Nathan and Ella. Maria and Nick's writing style gives so much depth to the characters, that you are able to feel their emotions which creates a real connectiveness. It is a book you will not want to stop reading and when you are done it will leave you wanting more!

Wow! All the feels with this one. A romantic thriller/suspense/mystery.
This book drew me in and never let go. 75% in, I had goosebumps and my heart was beating so fast. I was so invested. Some heavy topics and character growth really set the pace.

Missing Ivy is one of those books that once you pick it up, you really don't want to put it down (even if life makes you!). As someone who reads a lot of books, one would be hard pressed to think this is the debut novel for Nick and Maria Bateman. It is one of the best books I've read so far this year.
Nathan Reign is surviving. He's definitely not thriving given he lost something years ago that he continues to search for. He needs answers and he won't be able to move on until he gets them. Nathan meets Ella, who owns a bakery, but also lives in his building. He is intrigued by her, but he knows he really has nothing to give her as his emotions are tied up in trying to bring himself closure.
Nathan and Ella's relationship is very complex and both of them are flawed making it very easy to relate to what they are dealing with and going through. We are taken on a rollercoaster of emotions throughout the book as their relationship ebbs and flows. What I know is I'm very glad I picked up this book and I'm very much looking forward to what is to come in the next one. It can't come fast enough!

I was hooked from the very first chapter. Missing Ivy pulled me in immediately with its emotional depth, mystery, and slow-building romance, and I genuinely didn’t want to put it down.
Nathan and Ella’s story had me invested the entire time. The suspense kept me guessing, the emotional moments hit hard, and the romance felt earned. Every chapter made me want “just one more,” and before I knew it, I had finished the whole book.
Then I read the Book 2 teaser… and now I’m completely hooked. I need to know what happens next!

Wow, what a book! I found it such an easy read and I genuinely couldn’t put it down. I really enjoyed the characters, and I have a feeling they’ll stick with me for a long time. I’m already looking forward to the next book and can’t wait to see what comes next!

This is definitely one of my top 10 books from this year! This book had me on an emotional rollercoaster and I couldn't put it down. I read it in less than 24 hours. The story just keeps you on edge. The characters are so relatable. I loved the complexity that came with Nathan's character. I found myself hating him then by the end I had such a soft spot for him. I also LOVED Ashton and Bishop! Their friendships were everything. I love a good mystery and this book didn't disappoint.
🌶️The spice is more closed door. Typically, I usually like a book with more spice, but I think The closed door was perfect for this book. More spice I think would have detracted from the plot.
I am giving the review a 4 mostly due to the writing. For the author's first book, it was good, however, it was a little choppy. It jumped around from place to place and was hard to follow at times. There were also some loose ends that I felt needed more answers to (please see the spoiler warning below)

There were some loose ends that I would have loved the authors to dive into more that would have made a bigger impact. For example, what happened between Nathan and Madison? It was briefly explained, but having more details was needed. What happened? Why did Nathan move out to begin with? What did that dynamic change look like? I would have loved a memory with those details. Their relationship just fizzling out just didn't quite make sense. It was like Madison just didn't matter to him anymore which felt very out of character. Including a memory or memories regarding their relationship after Ivy was taken would have tied their relationship up perfectly.
I also would have loved to have more context behind Ivy's kidnapping. Why was she taken? What was the motive behind it? Was it planned beforehand? Was it a "wrong place at the right time" type of situation? It just felt very random. I would have loved to get more behind who Scarlett was and her motives in more detail. Having a chapter or two from her point of view would have been interesting. It didn't quite make sense that she randomly kidnapped a child and said she adopted her and nobody asked questions? There were some definite loose ends around this that needed clearing. With that said, I love the scene where Nathan finds Ivy. It had me in tears and the authors do such a good job making you feel that angst that Nathan feels the entire book while also making you feel that relief and joy when he finds her. That part made the entire book for me.
Lastly, I would have liked to see Nathan and Ella have more development to their relationship through the book. They only had a few interactions before kissing and having sex. Then he just blew her off the rest of the book. Their relationship didn't quite click for me. I would have liked to see them have more meaningful interactions to make their relationship more impactful. For that reason, It didn't quite resonate with me when I read his letter about how she impacted him before they even talked. There wasn't really any evidence of that throughout the book. It didn't make sense to me why Ella continued to try when they never really had any type of relationship until the end.
Overall, I think the authors did an amazing job especially with this being a first book. Were there some writing flaws? Yes, but the story is so creative and kept me engaged the entire book. I am so excited to read the next books in the series! I am hoping we get more about the man with the fisherman hat. That storyline was very intriguing and I have a feeling it's not over.

One of the most interesting things about Missing Ivy actually starts before you even get into the story.
The fact that Nick and Maria Bateman wrote this together as husband and wife, over more than two years, made me look at the book differently. Once you know they've infused pieces of their own lives and experiences into the story, reading it becomes almost like a second mystery happening underneath the actual mystery.
Which moments are completely fictional?
Which conversations came from real life?
Which personality traits belong to which author?
Suddenly I'm not just trying to figure out what happened to Ivy. I'm apparently investigating the authors too.
And that's part of what makes the book feel so personal. You can tell a lot of heart went into these characters. Nathan and Maddison don't feel like they were created simply to move a mystery forward. Their relationship has little moments, humor, frustrations, and imperfections that make them feel lived-in. The supporting characters have their own personalities and histories too, which becomes increasingly important as you realize this story is building toward something much larger.
But my favorite part is the attention to detail.
Missing Ivy is FAST, but it's not a book you should necessarily read carelessly.
There are Easter eggs everywhere.
A random line of dialogue. A name. A seemingly insignificant interaction. Something that isn't completely explained. At first, you might assume it's nothing. Then something happens later and suddenly you're thinking, “WAIT. Wasn't that mentioned like 100 pages ago?”
And now I'm flipping backward like I'm preparing evidence for trial.
What I really appreciate is that the book doesn't feel obligated to immediately tie a bow around every single detail. Some things are clearly being planted for later. Once you recognize that a larger universe is being built, unanswered questions stop feeling accidental and start feeling suspicious.

It rewards readers who actually pay attention and read between the lines. If you race through purely looking for the next major plot point, you're probably going to miss half the fun.
There is obviously the central mystery, but underneath it are relationships, backstories, hidden connections, personal details from the authors' own lives, and breadcrumbs that seem designed to matter beyond this one book.
That's what ultimately makes Missing Ivy feel unique. You can tell these two didn't just come up with a plot and write it down. They spent years creating characters and weaving pieces of themselves into a world they clearly intend to keep expanding.
So yes, I wanted answers about Ivy.
But now I also want answers about Nathan. Ella. Bishop. Ashton. The Easter eggs I probably missed. The suspicious loose ends. And approximately seventeen lines I'm now convinced secretly mean something.

I picked up Missing Ivy hoping to discover a promising indie mystery, and while I appreciate the effort and ambition behind the project, it ultimately didn't work.
The audiobook was the biggest issue for me. The authors narrated it themselves, and unfortunately the performance and editing felt amateur. There were moments where one section ended and the next began almost immediately ("it felt painful.chapterten.ella"), making the production feel unfinished. Combined with strong regional accents ("beg" for "bag" and "sowree" for "sorry" which is upper midwest/Canadian, no PNW) that didn't match the Seattle setting, I was constantly aware I was listening to a recording rather than becoming immersed in the story. They should have hired narrators.
From a storytelling perspective, I never fully connected with the central relationship between Nathan and Ella. Their romance was clearly intended to be an emotional anchor of the story, but the chemistry was nonexistent. Why are they kissing? This is emotionless... what is happening...
Also, several character decisions also felt difficult to believe, particularly Nathan's refusal to communicate with Ella regarding his daughter when she discovered what she discovered.
I also struggled with the pacing. The extensive backstory involving Madison and Nathan occupied a significant amount of space, but I never felt it meaningfully enhanced the present-day storyline. What happened in high school held zero relevance to what was happening today. Likewise, Madison's progression toward a new relationship while Nathan remained in such a dark emotional place felt emotionally disconnected from the reality the story had established.

Missing Ivy basically said, “Here’s a mystery,” and then proceeded to ruin my plans for the evening.
What starts as a mystery quickly turns into this tangled web of secrets, relationships, suspicious behavior, and tiny details that had me mentally accusing everyone. At some point you realize the book has been dropping breadcrumbs right in front of you, and you've been happily stepping over them while convincing yourself you've figured everything out. Cute. grrrrr
Nathan and Ella were probably my favorite part. They have a kind of opposites attract energy where one of them desperately needs the other to occasionally say, “Maybe don't do that.”
Then you have Bishop and Ashton, who had absolutely no business making me this interested in supporting characters. By the end, I wanted to know what happened to basically everyone.
The pacing is FAST. Short chapters, constant reveals, and an alarming number of “fine, one more chapter” situations. It has a very cinematic quality to it.
What I especially like about the story is that it doesn't spoon feed everything to you. Little conversations, strange moments, and details that seem unimportant can suddenly mean something later. There are Easter eggs hiding throughout, and once you realize that, you start side eyeing every sentence like it personally owes you an explanation.
And that ending?
Rude.
