Nicole Parker is the author of creative and humorous romance stories. She is a 30-something California native who spends the great majority of her free time writing books, reading books, or organizing her ever growing TBR list. She also has a spouse, some kids, and pets, but this isn't about them. Nicole's books are funny, raunchy, silly, and most importantly full of good vibes and happy endings.
This is my new favourite by Nicole! Whenever I think I know what to expect, she surprises me! This one was way more in depth than I was expecting; a really good story! It was giving me horny Jumanji vibes, more like the new movies not the original! But I loved it!!
May 2026 Small Business BookTok ARC Reviews (BookFable Edition): “Pixel” by Nicole Parker
Note: This ARC was given to me for free by the author and I am reviewing this book voluntarily.
Coming this Summer.. Nicole Parker’s longest running Sentient Romance series.. Is about to level up.. As our journey jumps from the pages.. To the pixels!
Nicole Parker delivers once again in her latest installment in the “Kyleverse” series! This story does something slightly different in its world-building as instead of centering on a Sentient Shifter, we follow Teddy as they get sucked into a 90’s adventure video game and fall for the main heroine, Denni! The fast-paced adventure, tension-filled chemistry, and comedic hijinx that the narrative had to offer felt slightly reminiscent of “Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle” and a dash of “Lara Croft: Tomb Raider”! And, of course, you can expect an appearance from your friendly neighborhood Sentient Romance Wingman, Kyle! Ready to join in on the pixelated mischief? Then don’t miss out on this book when it hits online shelves on May 22, 2026!
Rating: 5/5⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Tropes: Sentient Romance, Sentient Romance Friend Group, Sentient Romance Wingman, Trapped in a Video Game Narrative, Gamer MMC x Video Game Character FMC, Menacing Fightable Video Game Creatures, and Insta-Love/Insta-Lust.
Trigger Warning: (Full Description Can Be Found In The Book).
Did I know I needed a book where the gamer ends up in a 90's video game? No, I didn't. But Author Nicole Parker knew that it would heal my millennial soul. I mean we should know by now that anytime someone hands you anything with a bit of a riddle that we're in for a good time! When I say that this book once again had me laughing out loud like a fool and also fanning myself because DAMMMNNNNN (insert image of Chris Tucker and Ice Cube from Friday). These two characters had me all in my feels... how quickly they became each other's life lines. Their chemistry is intense and undeniable! Of course our ride or die bestie Kyle saves the day...with his hands...in the most innocent way possible. And the ending....I was kicking and squealing... cause I love these characters so much! I cannot wait to see what she thinks of next for this amazing series!
You ever look at a video game character and think, “smash”? That’s exactly what Nicole is Exploring in Pixels only Teddy the MMC gets sucked into the game… and then he sucks on a part of the game.. character 👀👀 or something like that 🤣 I think Denni the FMC was loosely based of Lara Croft who is imo the most smashable in all forms. This is the 90s version of the game though so do with that info however you want. I really loved the setting change up in this game! Most Kyleverse books are based in the characters real world and then an object comes to life but this was the opposite! This was a fun read all together! Pixels is coming out May 22nd and I always suggest people looking for something funny and spicy pick up this series!
I am a gamer both of computer and console. So, I am a sucker of gamer stories. This one is a fun one. As a gamer, who won't want to find themselves transported into their favorite game.
Teddy not only gets transported into the game, but he gets the main FMC, Denni. There is no real lead up. It was like Teddy meet Denni and visa versa and then...wham, bam, thank you ma'am.
This book was a little different in the fact that Kyle did not make an appearance. While I like Kyle, I liked this change. A fun read for sure.
Little loner Teddy finally meets his match in Denni when he's magically teleported into the video game! In typical aughts fashion, she's only got plot armor and her bikini to make her way to the end of the game. Their slow burn romance was pretty cute and steamy once it got going.
Yes if: You've ever had a crush on a video game character
No if: The camel watching is too much for you
🐫 She's a video game character 🏖️ He co-owns an axe throwing brewery 🐫 Escape the game 🏖️ Dragon Fruit 🐫 She can't swim 🏖️ Kyle really uses those hands
Ahh this one was so fun! All fun and games until you end up in the game LOL Teddy and Denni are stuck together once Teddy somehow gets put into the game and Denni is just happy someone else is with her but she knows he needs to go back but Teddy wants her to come too. Watching Matt play the game and Teddy being like “I’m so sorry, Denni.” “For what?” “Matt is terrible at this game.” LOL Another amazing Kyleverse book!
A sentient object romance shouldn’t work this well, but Pixels absolutely ate. Funny, chaotic, weird in the best way, and somehow made me emotional over literal pixels. I highlighted far too much, but honestly?
“I haven’t been taking care of myself, and as a result I’m seeing d1ck$ in my database.”
I knew I was obsessed from there. Also, Kyle supremacy.
If you’re a gamer, you’ve probably, at least once, thought that a character was attractive. Don’t lie to me or yourself. So what would happen if you ate some weird candy and ended up stuck INSIDE the video game with said character? This is what happens in Pixels by Nicole Parker, and I loved this story! It’s probably my favorite book in the Kyleverse at the moment. With that being said, I definitely recommend any of the Kyleverse books but especially Pixels. It was such a cute, fun read.
