Anna Brentwood deftly weaves together historical facts with fiction, creating a hauntingly beautiful story I enjoyed.

In the aftermath of a personal tragedy, a teenage girl tries to understand and reconcile the treasures and paperwork she discovers hidden in her late father's desk with the childhood stories she remembers of sunken ships, mermaids, pirates, magical jewels, curses and more. Visions, love, friendship, family and faith intertwine in this nod to diversity and human struggles.

Each American immigrant brings their own hopes and dreams to our country! The universality of America as a melting pot of cultures helped me to not only empathize with Russian immigrant Pyotr Marchencko; but, to ultimately wonder about the family secrets my own history might hold.

I enjoy Anna's books. They are written with mystery, suspense and a love story. She is so descriptive in her words. I suggest taking time to read this then go on to "The Songbird With the Sapphire Eyes". Love it!
