I felt incredibly lucky to receive an ARC of Retribution by Mea Marco—and honestly, this book left me completely wrecked in the best way.
Calling it a mafia romance almost feels too simple. It dives far deeper, unraveling layer after layer of psychological tension until you’re left questioning everything. Each chapter builds on the last like something fragile is about to shatter, and just when you think you’ve figured it out, the story flips the script and pulls you under again.
Poison, our FMC, is unforgettable. She’s fierce, perceptive, and utterly unyielding. Even when everything around her tries to control or break her, she refuses to be reduced to a pawn. There’s something so powerful about a woman who’s been torn apart and rebuilt, yet still chooses to be dangerous. She easily stands out as one of my favourite female leads.
The supporting cast deserves just as much praise. Every character feels intentional, layered, and morally complex—no one is there without purpose.
The action sequences and missions kept me hooked, and I loved how unpredictable everything felt. There’s no settling into comfort here—just constant tension that keeps you turning pages.
Mea once again delivers an emotional whirlwind, carrying you through highs and lows without ever letting you fully catch your breath.
If you’re into dark romance packed with betrayal, secrecy, forced proximity, found family elements, and that addictive enemies-to-lovers tension, this is definitely one to pick up.
There were multiple moments where I had to stop and just sit with what I’d read—and that ending? It hit hard and sealed the entire experience perfectly.
A specific line that stayed with me: • “Tears were a currency she had stopped spending years ago.”
This isn’t just a story—it’s something that slowly takes you apart while you’re reading it. Absolutely unforgettable. Mea has truly outdone herself.
I was absolutely honoured to be given the ARC of Retribution by Mea Marco, and I genuinely don’t think I will recover from this book anytime soon.
This is so much more than a mafia romance. It is psychological unraveling at its finest. It's layered with so much that every chapter feels like another piece of the books inner spine is about to collapse. And just when you think you understand what is happening, you are proven wrong in the best possible way, and the pages fall to the floor.
Our FMC, Poison, is everything, her resilience, sharp instincts, and the way she refuses to be anyone’s pawn, even when the entire world is trying to move her like one makes her such a BADAS$ and the treason why she is one of my fav FMCs. Who doesn't love a woman who has been burned, broken, rebuilt and still refuses to be anything other than dangerous.👏🏼
The side characters were written perfectly, every single one felt purposeful, and morally complex.
The missions and fights kept me on edge constantly, and I loved how nothing ever felt predictable.
Mea took me on another emotional rollercoaster from start to finish, with tension that never really lets me settle.
If you enjoy reading dark romance with tropes that include betrayal, found family undertones, secrecy, forced proximity and enemies to lovers energy than this book is for you.
There were so many moments where I had to pause just to process what I had read, and that ending absolutely cemented the emotional impact of the entire book.
2 sneaky little quotes from the book: • Tears were a currency she had stopped spending years ago. •“Everything felt like a lie I was still learning how to survive.”
This book does not just tell a story. It dismantles you while doing it. What a jaw dropping read. Mea you have done it again! 🤌🏼🖤
I am actually OBSESSED with this series. Like fully consumed, emotionally wrecked, staring-at-the-wall-after-finishing levels of obsessed. And somehow book 3 managed to do the impossible and give the first two books the justice they deserved while still completely owning its own moment. Absolute perfection! Cannot wait for the other books to come out!!!
Poison continues to be THAT girl. A badass babe through and through, except this time she’s doing it in heels and I swear it made her even more powerful. The confidence, the chaos, the chemistry, the tension??? I ate up every single second.
AND THE HOTEL SCENE??? Excuse me??? I genuinely don’t think I’ll ever recover from that masterpiece. The way I was kicking my feet, screaming internally, rereading paragraphs like my life depended on it…
I don’t even want to say too much because everyone deserves to experience this series blind, but wow. The characters, the emotion, the spice, the loyalty, the obsession, the way everything connects so perfectly — this series owns a permanent shelf in my collection for pure perfection alone.
Where do I sign up for more because I am NOT ready to let these characters go.
REVIEW Book 3 - Retribution Poison Verse This book has me flipping tables, I kind of hate Scorpion/Philip now .. kid is a jerk.. This has become a why chose by and I vote to remove Scorpion at this point .. .. I'm keeping these sweet puppies Marcus, Saffa, and the H brothers ...
Book is written in POV it make me scream and loose my mind.
Poison / Mink is even more unhinged than before, more violence. This HAS to be. Cliffhanger.. she cannot die .. is way to badass to like like that.. so I guess she is coming back to life or getting rescue by a miracle..

I enjoyed the story and I thought it was quite entertaining. The book was filled with twists and turns, a great plot and it was action packed. However I couldn't fully immerse myself in it. The writing style of the book made me unable to emotionally connect with the characters within the book and it's for that reason why I couldn't give it 5 stars. I would still recommend this book to anyone that does love a dark romance to give this book a chance.
