The Odds of Us
She was unlucky in love. He was just unlucky.
Avery Lawson has spent years juggling a demanding job at Ever Elite magazine, an endless string of terrible dates, and constant pressure from her mother to settle down. But when a date at a local bar takes a dangerous turn, and the quiet owner steps in to help her, Avery’s streak of bad luck finally leads her somewhere interesting.
Right when she needs it the most.
After a family dinner turns her world upside down, Avery is determined to finally satisfy her mother—and ensure her father’s fading memory holds onto a version of her that’s happily in love.
Jameson Brownley doesn’t believe in luck. Life has already proven how quickly everything good can disappear, including the ones he loves the most. Between running Iron & Ivy—his late sister’s bar on the verge of collapse—and holding together the last fragile pieces of his family’s past, he’s barely keeping his head above water. The only constants in his life are hard work, two unruly dogs, and the weight of everything he’s trying not to lose.
Falling for someone was never part of the plan.
But agreeing to fake date her? That’s different.
What starts as a simple arrangement quickly becomes something neither of them can control. Especially when Avery’s career collides with Jameson’s livelihood, and the line between pretend and real disappears completely. With secrets, deadlines, and unexpected visitors threatening to unravel everything, Avery and Jameson must decide if taking a chance on each other is worth defying the odds.
What are the odds that something fake can survive becoming real?
The Odds of Us is a slow-burn, fake dating contemporary romance featuring witty banter, emotional depth, and chemistry that simmers long before it sparks.

The Odds of Us by M.K. Huffmon was an incredible romance novel! Definitely a must read for those who love a slow burn, fake dating, dual POV romance. I had the privilege of reading this as an ARC. I met the author at a signing for her other book, and knew I had to hop on the list to read this one early. Everything went right with the book: extensive character development, perfect level of spice to main storyline combo, and so many side hooks that always kept you guessing what happens next. I love when I can read a book and picture every scene in my head like a movie. This book did just that. Plus, the ending left me screaming!! Such a good cliffhanger. You can tell how much heart and soul the author poured into this novel and that she cares about getting all the details perfect for her readers. Mark my words, when M.K. Huffmon becomes a bestselling author, just remember I told ya so.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
I read an ARC of The Odds of Us by M.K. Huffmon, and from the very first date gone wrong, I was completely immersed in Jameson and Avery’s world.
What I loved most about this book is how effortlessly it balances a genuinely sweet, relatable romance with some very heavy and difficult life topics. There is a constant sense of intrigue running beneath the love story, especially through the heartbreaking mystery surrounding Matty and Brownwyn. That storyline felt incredibly cruel in the way only the best emotional arcs do, but it also created such beautiful space for found family, healing, and love. The atmosphere of the bar and the people who filled it became just as important to me as the romance itself.
The writing is wonderfully paced and so easy to fall into. I never felt like I was working to connect with the story. Instead, I found myself slipping into it naturally and wanting to stay there. The fake dating and slow burn elements were handled perfectly, and the dual POV made every emotional beat land exactly where it needed to.
And then there is Jameson Brownley.
I fear this man could be a new favorite book boyfriend.
His patience, consistency, and care for Avery, even while carrying the weight of his own grief and struggles, set a whole new standard. Watching him love her felt both swoon worthy and deeply human. One of my favorite moments comes when he admits to himself:
“This isn’t casual. This isn’t just sex. I’m completely, irrevocably gone for her.”
I mean... your honor, I love them.
There were so many lines that made me stop and smile, especially Jameson’s possessive little moment:
“Just territorial over what’s mine.”
My truck. My girl.
Simple. Effective. And slightly devastating to my emotional stability.
I also loved the contrast between the serenity of Jameson’s home and the chaos of Avery’s job and city life. M.K. Huffmon blended those worlds beautifully. I could picture every scene so vividly, especially the bar. It felt like such a unique and welcoming place and I so genuinely wish Brownwyn could have experienced it.
The friendships in this book deserve their flowers too. Avery’s support system delivered some of the most meaningful moments in the story, especially when she was reminded:
“You need to love yourself the way we love you, Avery. You need to put yourself up there, at the top of your own priority list. You need to know your worth so well that you can recognize someone who sees it, too.”
That hit hard in the best way.
The ending had me fully on the edge of my seat!! Just when I thought I had settled comfortably into this beautiful romance, the story reminded me there was still so much at stake. I need the next book NOW.
If you enjoy fake dating, slow burn romance, found family, emotional healing, and a genuinely wonderful hero, The Odds of Us is absolutely worth your time. It broke my heart, put it back together, and left me desperate to know what happens next!
“I’m in love with you, Avery. I don’t just think I am, I know. Because even though I’m so fucking hurt, the thought of letting you walk away from me right now hurts far worse. It would ruin me. Now that I have you in my life, I don’t want to live a single day without you in it.”

Tropes: fake dating, slow-burn romance, grumpy x sunshine energy, found family, dual POV, emotional scars & healing, witty banter & light spice
A man who stopped letting people in. A woman who was losing hope she’d ever find something real. And a fake dating arrangement that was supposed to be temporary…
Avery and Jameson have both been through SO much, and you can feel how much their pasts have shaped them. Avery keeps putting herself out there only to be disappointed, while Jameson has completely shut himself off after so much loss—until Avery.
Jameson was honestly my favorite part of this book. He tried SO hard to keep his distance, but he never stood a chance 😭 He was constantly drawn to her, wanting to know her, and she slowly became someone who felt safe enough to let in.
“Because the truth is, it’s not just about time. It’s about fear. About not trusting myself to take care of something that might actually matter again, of letting someone get close enough to become a victim to my lifetime of bad luck.”
This broke me. The way he fought his feelings while falling harder and harder was EVERYTHING. Their fake dating arrangement should’ve been simple and surface level—but we all know how that goes.
“Everything feels more tangled than ever. Because fake didn’t stay fake for long.”
When that “dam” broke, I loved watching them shift from guarded strangers to something safe and real—it was so perfect.
“She’s not a distraction; she’s the whole damn show.”
“This isn’t casual. This isn’t just sex. I’m completely, irrevocably gone for her.”
Yeah… I was DONE.
This book isn’t just about falling in love—it’s about finally being seen, cherished, and chosen.
“This feeling of being seen, cherished, and protected by someone who doesn’t share my blood or DNA is entirely new to me. And it’s terrifying how quickly I could get used to it.”
AND THAT 😭 Avery and Jameson both had so much healing to do, and I loved watching them become that safe place for each other.
“Avery, before I met you, I was in a really dark place. I was surrounded by it. It consumed everything. Then you showed up, and suddenly it felt like someone finally turned the light on.”
I absolutely adored Jameson’s journey. The way Avery brought him back to himself absolutely melted me 😭
“No one has ever looked at me like this before. No one has ever spoken about me like this. No one has ever held my heart in their hands, still beating, still bleeding, and managed to place it back into my chest without scratching the surface.”
I loved the author’s writing and characters—the trauma was handled so delicately. I’m really looking forward to the next book after that cliffhanger!

ARC reader review: The Odds of Us was one of those books that pulled me in right from the beginning. I really connected with the character Avery and Jameson and found myself emotionally invested in their story. The author did a great job showing that relationships aren't always easy or perfect, and that made the story feel genuine and relatable. This book is a slow burn but worth the read! It gave me a romcom feel with the "fake dating" plan.
I loved how the characters grew throughout the book and worked through real-life challenges. There were moments that made me smile, moments that tugged at my heart, and plenty of times I found myself hoping everything would work out for them. Both Avery and Jameson have some serious emotional scars from their past but together they almost heal one another.
The story was well-written, easy to get lost in, and hard to put down. It reminded me that life doesn't always go according to plan, but sometimes the unexpected turns lead to something even better. If you enjoy romcom movies you will enjoy this romance with realistic characters and plenty of emotion, I would definitely recommend this book

firstly thank you to MK for allowing me to be an ARC reader!
this book was a mix of emotions from me. from start to finish. knowing that Avery was being pressured into not being alone and trying to get her mom off her back. to Jameson having so much trauma and still willing to protect those around him.
from the beginning Jameson knew she should’ve stayed away but he just couldn’t. Avery was too intriguing even after having to save her from a horrible date. Avery just thinks she can’t find love when all she needed was the local bar owner to fake date her.
this was such a good slow burn fake dating even telling from the beginning that Jameson was all in for Avery. his trauma and grief was taken and written so well. it made me emotional just having to read. they were so made for each other to help show that there is beauty in an ugly world. that there is hope in the world to people you might not know so quickly
the story telling and writing from the author was incredible i was glued to the book 💓

This was a great book and I’m so happy I got to meet Avery and Jameson in this story. Avery is a smart and sassy journalist, and Jameson is the broody, loyal owner of a bar who has a habit of saving damsels in distress.
I loved that each of the characters had their own healing journey and we got to see some of this and how it affected them together as a couple. I wouldn’t classify this book as super light due to some of these themes, however, it wasn’t heavy either. Also thank god for not having a third act break up!
Though it does not end of a cliffhanger for this couple, the end definitely makes you want the next book in the series!
Give it a read if you enjoy these tropes:
Fake dating
Slow burn
Grumpy x sunshine
Emotional scars & healing
Found family
Dual POV
Thank you to the author for providing an advanced copy of this book, I am leaving a review voluntarily.

WELL. Im normally not one to enjoy normal verse books but I thoroughly enjoyed this one. Not only did it have some loveable characters like Gen, Leo and Matty. But the constant twists of tension and the way Jameson opens up and you slowly learn all about his history and the story behind Iron and Ivy.
Without too many spoilers. Avery is the queen of self sabotage and Jameson is just the most perfect, patient and romantic gentleman. Matty's story reveal breaks my heart and I think this book was just so well thought out.
Dealing also with illnesses like dementia, which was very close to home for me as someone whi has had to care for a family member with it, it was just so beautiful in how the family comes together just to deal with this.

✨Arc Review✨ If you love slow burns, fake dating, found family, he falls first, and emotional healing, this book delivers all of it. Avery is desperate to get her mom off her back about her nonexistent love life, so fake dating the gorgeous owner of her local bar seems like the perfect solution. What she doesn’t expect is for the line between pretending and reality to blur so quickly.
Jameson carries the weight of a deeply tragic past and has spent years protecting his heart. But Avery makes him wonder if love can be something other than loss. Their chemistry is undeniable, the romance a slow burn and the ending will leave you desperate for the next book.

10/10 Would recommend
for my contemporary romance girlies!
Shes unlucky in love, and hes just unlucky.
The banter is witty, the romance is slow burning, the characters are lovable, I couldn't wait to know what happened next.
The Odds of Us by MK Huffmon Is an emotional, feel good, slow burn, following characters Avery and Jameson as they navigate fake and real relationships while also overcoming grief and expectation. Heavy on the banter light on the spice.
This story gave me so much more than I expected, and I’ll be patiently waiting for book 2.

I was given an ARC copy of this book for an HONEST review. With that being said, this book captivated me from the start. The plot, the characters, the twists, the slow burn. I loved it all! This is a slow burn, fake dating, emotional work of art. This is 100 percent a 5 star read. When I was done, I was shocked and wanting more. I cannot wait for the second book. Good job MK Huffmon!!!!

The angst in this slow burn, fake dating, dual POV romance is top tier.
Like yes it’s a slow burn but the chemistry is intense from the beginning. i LOVE their dynamic and the banter between MC’s. It provides not only comedic relief but makes it more relatable instead of like hallmark cringe.
The miscommunication piece in this drove me crazy momentarily (LIKE JUST ASK 😂) but due to WHAT it was in regards to i completely accept MMC’s role in that situation.
Cliff hangers tend to leave me wanting more, but this one had me crashing out to my husband needing more.
Something I haven’t noticed a lot of people talking about is the high stakes trope in this storyline. The high stakes are what keeps you locked in from page to page, that leaves you needing to read more.
I absolutely cannot wait for book two, everyone needs to jump on this one!

I legitimately hated this book, and most of the characters issues could have been solved if they had a conversation. There’s no reason this book needed to be 500 pages… and TO BE CONTINUED. I’m also very irritated this gave no indication that it would be a series let alone that it’s an incomplete series.
I was never excited to pick this book up to continue reading.

I’m not too big into slow burns but this book has changed my mind. The relationship between both main characters is what I’ve fallen in love with the most. It had me gasping and giggling. I highly recommend this book. It was amazing.

This book is a masterpiece of romance. With its slow burn and incredible tension, I was drawn in from beginning to end, and the cliffhanger left me desperate for the next book.
When Jameson comes to Avery’s rescue time and time again, you can’t help but fall in love with him. Then, learning his backstory just breaks your heart.
Avery is the kind of character you love but also want to shake because of her self-sabotage. We’ve all been there when we can’t see the green flags right in front of us.
This story has so many twists and turns. Just when you think it’s going one way, it changes direction and completely shocks you. You also fall in love with all of the side characters. My heart was heavy with some of their backstories and what happens to them throughout this story.
This is the first time I have read anything by this author, and it definitely won’t be my last. Plus, I need book two like tomorrow, please!

Wow. Just Wow.
This is my first MK Huffmon book, and it definitely will not be my last.
At its core, The Odds of Us is a fake dating romance, but honestly? It’s so much more than that. Beneath the romance is a deeply emotional story about grief, loss, healing, and learning how to let people in when your heart is convinced it’s safer to keep them out.
Avery completely stole my heart. She’s intelligent, capable, quick-witted, and fiercly independent, but underneath all that strength is someone who never quite feels like she’s enough – especially when it comes to her relationship with her mother. At the same time, she’s struggling with a father who is slowly slipping away, and watching her navigate that was beautiful.
Then there’s Jameson. Sweet. Beautiful, broke Jameson.
This man is carrying the weight of the world on his shoulders. He’s lost so much, he’s desperately trying to hold on to the pieces he has left. He takes responsibility for everyone around him, convinced it’s his job to protect them, save them, carry their burdens. On the outside he is guff, guarded, and subborn, but underneath? He’s warm, compassionate, caring, and so incredibly lost. He’s a hero in every sense of the word, even when he can’t see it himself.
The romance between Avery and Jameson is absolutely delicious. They both know the attraction is there, but they fight it every step of the way. The tension, the push and pull, the stoeln moments – it all felt so natural and flawed making it even more easy to relate to. And while they both fall, Jameson falls first, which made every moment that much sweeter. What I truly loved most was that Avery never settled for half measures. She knows her worth, and she knows she deserves someone’s whole heart, not just the pieces they are willing to give.
One thing that caught me completely off guard was the mental health (TBI) representation. It was woven seamlessly into the story and handled with such care and authenticy. The emotional weight of those moments hit hard and added so much depth to an already powerful story.
But even more than that, it wasn’t just the portrayl of mental health struggles, but the way M.K. explored the impact those struggles can have on the people who love someone through them, There were moments filled with hard memories, hurt, and heartbreak, yet underneath it all was compassion, understanding, and ultimately forgiveness.
Jamesons capcity to forgive floored me. He recognized the difference between intent and illness, between someone choosing to cause pain and someone drowning in their own head. That level of emptahy takes incredible strength and watching him navigate those emotions felt raw yet real. The story doesn’t excuse the damage that can be done but it also doesn’t reduce people to their struggles. Instead, it shows the complicated reality that love, grief, foregiveness, and healing can all exist in the same space.
And the friendships and found family? Absolute perfection! This friend group is chaotic, sarcastic, unhinged, and supportive. They are the kind of people who become family – not becuase they have to but because they choose to. The love, loyalty, and encouragement between the added so much heart and lightness to the story!
And lets not forget the abundent amount of witty banter! It deserves its own shout out. It was sharp, witty, and felt incredibly natural. I found myself smiling through so
many secnes because the dialogue flowed so effortlessly.
The sotry had me from the start. There were multiple moments where I thoguht I knew exactly where things were headed – and every single time I was proven wrong. I found myself sitting there thinking “what the actual hell just happened?” And I don’t mean this in a suspenseful way, it’s more of like a “I didnt see that coming” type of thing.
This one was a 5 star read for me. It was a heartfelt, emotional romance filled with grief, healing, found family, incredible banter, and a hearo who will absolutely steal your heart. M.K. Huffmon has offically earned a sport on my auto -read list!
Will this book be for everyone? Maybe not.
But for me, it landed exactly when and where it needed to. Whether I was simply in the right headspace for it, whether I needed a story that could make me laugh while still making my heart ache, or whether I was craving a romanc packed with tension, longing, healing, and just enough angst to keep me emotionall invested - I honeslty don’t know.
What I do know is this: I could NOT put it down.
This was a less-than-24-hour read for me, everytime I set it down, I found myself trying to carve out more time to pick it back up. I was constantly thinking about Avery and Jameson, wondering what would happen next, and needing just one more chapter. Then another. And another.
The combination of heartfelt emotion, genuine character growth, found family, shared banter, and romance that slowly works its way under your skin made this one incredibly difficult to walk away from, And just when I thought I knew where the story was headed in a predictable way, M.K, said nope lets do something different.
Sometimes a book simply finds you are the right moment, and The Odds of Us was one of those books for me.

Book release date: June 18
*Fake dating
*Slow-burn romance
*Grumpy/sunshine energy
*Found family
*Dual POV
Avery likes living in the city and getting lost in a crowd. No one pays attention to her tears when hundreds of people are walking by. She is 28 and has a bachelor's degree and a master in journalism. Her mom is always harping on her to settle down and date. So with all the pressure she tries online dating. Avery meets her date Eric at a hole in the wall bar. He seems nice at first but when she leaves the table to answer her phone she sees him slip something into her drink. The dreamy bartender swoops in and saves her and makes sure her date is kicked out immediately. He drives her home and instantly wishes he could see her again. Avery is invited to her mother's family dinner the next day and her younger brother shows up with a new girl - who is pregnant. Avery is feeling completely lonely and left out. The only one in her family to have not found love. She panics and blurts out to her mom, "I'm seeing someone." She has three days to find a fake boyfriend and get her mom off her back.
This book is beautiful with the emotional complexity of the characters. I fell in love with Jameson and how he comes to Avery's rescue like a night in shining armor over and over again. He is everything you'd want in a boyfriend. He drops everything to come save Avery and the way he looks at her makes you melt. He is handsome and charming and of course he owns a bar. Avery is just looking to make her mom pleased and get her off her back about being single but this fake relationship makes her question everything.
I loved every page of this book and I got sucked into Avery's family and everything going on with Jay's bar. I did not want this book to end. Made me want to dress up in a sexy rapunzel costume and play trivia at a bar on Halloween.
My favorite quote from this book is "realizing that sometimes the hardest prison isn't the ones with locked doors. It's the one built from guilt you refuse to survive."
I loved how this book made you feel. I have grown attached to these characters and I loved that it took place in the magical city of New York.
This was my first book I've read from this author and definitely not my last.

I had the privilege of receiving an advanced reader copy of this book, and I am so happy that I did. I am writing this review happily and voluntarily because I enjoyed this book so much that I read it in two days. I found myself so concerned about what would happen next that I couldn’t put it down. I will admit there are a lot of romance books out there these days, so sometimes they can start to feel a little too similar. This one honestly felt different to me because I loved the main characters so much. Avery and Jameson both felt real and easy to connect with, and I found myself rooting for them almost right away.
I liked Avery immediately and sympathized with her and the way her mother treated her. I loved her friends and was glad she had them in her corner. In the end, I liked her whole family and was even beginning to warm slightly to her mother. I felt very bad for her, and her terrible luck with dating, but I imagine it helped her become so great at her career.
Jameson was probably my favorite, though. He seemed to be a bit cold at first, but underneath it all, he cared so deeply about his family, the bar, and the people around him. He was the kind of character that slowly sneaks up on you until you realize you are completely invested in him, and when you find out everything he has been through, you can certainly understand a bit of his aloofness.
The chemistry between them was great because it was not rushed. It felt natural, and the interactions between them kept me smiling. Yes, it has all the fun romance tropes people love, but it also has emotional depth and believable characters.
If you enjoy romance books with lovable characters, fake dating, humor, emotional healing, and a relationship that slowly grows into something real, I highly recommend this book. I can’t wait for the next one.

I really enjoyed this story and it had multiple layers of things going on for both of the main characters linked to the current day and in their past.
Avery working through how her family views her and feeling like a failure who can't please them and feeling behind in her life journey compared to her siblings and wanting to achieve in her career but do the right thing at the same time. Making a decision to fake date the hot hunk of barman Jameson who is her knighting shining armour, I mean what could possibly go wrong? It's not real, right? A mutual agreement for both parties where they both get something out of it - sounds perfect, nobody will get hurt obviously . . .
Jameson who isn't ready for love, working through Trauma from his past - multiple traumas to be fair and working his arse off to save his current saving grace, which is his bar. A holy place that means so much to him for so many reasons linked to his past and just for him. But when love finds him and it's impossible for his body to ignore what can he do? He is such an honourable and respectful man but MAN he knows how to treat a woman sexually and worship her and her body!
As characters I loved them both and I loved the characters who were there surrounding network of people rooting for them and having their backs.
A love story that has depth to it and lots of twists and hiding things and trying to protect each other from harms way and doing so without hesitating. I loved following their love story and how it evolved over time and how it helps Jameson especially confront his fears and trauma and work through it.
LETS TALK ABOUT THE END .... I won't actually but OH MY GOODNESS! I didn't expect that and I have so many questions - what a cliffhanger and very unpredictable. Cannot wait for the next instalment in this book series.

**ARC REVIEW**
"My truck. My girl."
I was given an ARC of The Odds of Us by M.K. Huffmon, and I am honestly so grateful for the opportunity to read it early.
Jameson and Avery’s story pulled me in right away, and I loved watching their dynamic unfold throughout the book. There’s just something about the way they orbit each other that kept me turning pages and fully invested in where things were going for them.
And can we talk about Gen, Kiara, and Avery for a second? Because that friend group is absolute chaos in the best way possible. I LOVED them. Their banter, their energy, their shenanigans. Every scene with them together felt like watching a group chat come to life. I genuinely didn’t want to leave them.
This book also gave me slight Devil Wears Prada vibes in the best way by being very sharp, very fast-moving, and a little reminiscent of that Miranda Priestly-style energy that just pulls you in. And Jameson… he is so protective in a way that had me fully rooting for him from the start.
I will say, while I was hooked the entire time and really enjoyed the ride, the ending didn’t fully land for me. It felt a bit rushed, and I wanted a little more time for the conflict and resolution to breathe instead of wrapping up so quickly.
Even so, I’m genuinely excited to see where this series goes next. I want to know what happens after that ending, and I’ll absolutely be picking up book two because overall, I really did enjoy this one and had a great time reading it.

Is there anything better than an overprotective MMC paired with an FMC who desperately needs saving? This book absolutely nailed the slow burn. The tension simmered from beginning to end, and every interaction between Jameson and Avery had me hooked. 🔥
Jameson is impossible not to love. After losing his family, he’s clinging to the one thing that still connects him to his sister: the bar they built together, even as it struggles to stay afloat financially. Avery is equally compelling, working tirelessly to build her dream career as a journalist while carrying the weight of family expectations, especially with her father’s declining health.
Their first meeting instantly pulls you in. Avery ends up at Jameson’s bar on a first date that takes a terrifying turn when her date tries to drug her drink. Jameson steps in immediately, calling “Code Ember,” stopping the guy from leaving, and contacting the police. From that moment on, the chemistry between them is undeniable.
Even though the attraction is immediate, Jameson keeps his walls firmly up. The two strike a deal: he’ll fake date Avery to get her mother off her back, and she’ll write an article about his bar to help bring in customers. Of course, fake dating quickly becomes very real as feelings begin to grow and everything starts getting messy in the best way possible.
This book was an emotional roller coaster from start to finish... and THAT ending?! Who was prepared for that cliffhanger?? 😱 Highly recommend picking this one up!

I love finding new indie authors, especially when they are somewhat local to me, so when this one popped up to ARC read, I was sold!
This romance read is full of so many good things! We have fake dating, a slow-burn romance, grumpy/sunshine energy (which I always love), found family, emotional scars and healing, banter, and some spice.
I really liked Avery and Jamison as well as all of the other side characters. We had lots of tension and a multitude of things happening which helps keep you hooked in wanting to know what will happen next. Avery drove me crazy at times with her assumptions which basically caused her to self-sabotage and cause herself more angst. While I wouldn't really call it miscommunication, there was sometimes lack of communication. Jamison is just amazing. He is patient, kind, protective, and doing everything he possible can to keep things going in his life after dealing with some pretty tragic things.
My only complaint is that I felt like the ending moved super quickly and there wasn't much time for conflict resolution, however, we definitely are setup for the next book, and I am hoping we will get a bit more there!
Overall, I really enjoyed this one and it was a good change of pace for me with what I have been reading. Huge thank you to MK Huffmon for sharing an early copy with me to read!

Avery suffers from an affliction that many FMCs have. Her mother is overbearing and pushing her to get married. And as one does, she goes on dates with people she found on dating apps. Unfortunately, that hasn’t been working out very well. At a fun bar in NYC, she needs rescued from a predator, and lucky for her, this bar’s owner, Jameson, is well prepared to deal with men behaving horribly. NOTE: Check the trigger warnings because this date is on page and your mental health matters more than the first two chapters.
Jameson has lost most of his family, and is just trying to hang on to all he feels he has left. His bar is one of those things he is trying desperately to keep afloat. He doesn’t have time for relationships outside the found family he has built.
Avery’s little brother brings a pregnant girlfriend to family dinner, so Avery does the only logical thing and invents a “serious” boyfriend. With two days to find someone, she strikes a deal with Jameson to fake date in exchange for writing an article to help his bar.
If you love banter, yearning, and fake relationships - this book is for you! Jameson is the book boyfriend you would want IRL. This book will have you all in your feelings. And I need book 2 yesterday. Or last week.

I was chosen to be an arc for this read and... I loved The Odds of Us. It had fake dating, a slow burn, angst and dual POVs so you can fall in love with both characters. I liked how developed the characters were and I was hooked on their story from the start.
I enjoyed the combination of romance, chemistry and feels. This book was impossible to put down. The writing made it easy to visualize what was happening and the plot was so good. There were also so many twists and turns throughout the story to keep you hooked. The author didn't rush any part of their relationship either.
The author left me wanting more. This book will stay with you and you'll find yourself thinking about it days after you finished. I can't wait to read more from M.K. Huffmon. She knows how to write fantastic books with amazing characters. If you are a fan of cute contemporary romance I Highly Recommend this book!

I received an ARC of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review. I'll keep this spoiler-free and share my overall thoughts.
The Odds of Us is a fun, witty romance with plenty of heart, clever banter, and lovable characters. Avery (FMC) and Jameson (MMC) are both written so well that you'll find yourself rooting for them from beginning to end. The supporting cast is equally charming—I especially wanted to give Matty a hug!
The romance includes a mild level of spice that adds to the story without overshadowing it. The premise gave me How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days vibes, which made it even more enjoyable. The story was entertaining, engaging, and ended on a cliffhanger that left me excited to pick up the next book.
If you enjoy character-driven romance novels with humor, heart, and memorable characters, The Odds of Us is definitely worth reading.

I love the concept of the book. I think all in all it was a very well rounded book however, for me, the length of the book was just a little too much in my opinion. I have been consistently reading this book since it got released to me and it took me a long time to get through it only because the length of the book itself and I felt like it was just a constant back-and-forth and I thought we could get to the point of the unfolding of the problems that were building sooner. I do think that the character building was good and the problems that were occurring match the theme of the book. Personal opinion, I would’ve liked the book so much more if some parts were cut to shorten it and give us more of the bulk material necessary to the book sooner. Ultimately, this was a good book and I would recommend it to my peers, but think it could’ve been more of the rocks and a little less water.

This book wrecked me. I just have no words…
The emotional connection and chemistry between Jay and Avery is off the shards. But the stories from both the main characters is so devastating… but in a way also so beautiful. They both have been through so much… but it shaped them to who they are. This book is not just about love but also about being seen for who you are.
AND THAT ENDING? Mindblowing to say the least! It left me screaming and i just can’t wait to read the next book!
If you like
👉 fake dating
👉 slow burn romance
👉 found family
👉 grumpy x sunshine energy
👉 emotional scars and healing
👉 banter
Then you should definitely read this book!
