A single picture exposes a truth deadly enough to kill for.
Disgraced photojournalist Shari Catalano built her new life on a lie. There’s a reason she can’t trust her instincts or her friends. Because someone close to her found what she keeps sealed in a hidden room, and they’re using it to torment her.
When her neighbor vanishes and the evidence points to Shari, finding her stalker becomes a matter of life or... life in prison. From behind her vintage camera lens, she watches the quiet suburban street that suddenly feels staged, every resident a suspect. Then a stranger turns up in her picturesque town of Doomwood Falls, so she snaps a picture and develops the film.
What she discovers in her darkroom chills her to the bone.
Exposing it could be deadly. Because Shari has a secret too, one that explains why she never allows her own picture to be taken, and why she refuses to speak her husband's name.
Now someone is watching Shari. They discovered what she’s done. And they’ll kill to keep her silent.
She's taken one photograph too many.
"Put on a neck brace before reading, because the twists are so good you’re guaranteed to get whiplash!" - reader review ★★★★★
To know PAMELA CRANE, you first need to know her husband. He sleeps with one eye open. He checks the knife block to make sure none are missing. Why? It could be because they have four kids and a farm full of mischievous animals. Or it could be because she writes murder mysteries, and about the occasional woman who has lost her marbles (not based on her real-life psyche, she swears!) Don't worry—her husband is safe...for now. Her books range from witty whodunnits to psychological suspense and even humorous women’s fiction thrown in for good measure. She’s a USA TODAY bestselling author of over a dozen novels (who’s counting?), but her biggest accomplishment is keeping her zoo of animals alive…and her husband in check. Another corker from Pamela Crane—did not see the solution coming, at all!!
All her books are great but I really like the cast of characters in this one and loved the twist of the main character being an ex-con. So many secrets here it’s almost hard to keep track.
Try this or any of her other novels. I think you’ll be glad you did.
I could not put this book down!!! So many twists at the end I didn't see coming. A few stories all rolled into one and keeps you guessing. I absolutely loved this book, and look forward fo reading more from Pamela! Excellent read - quick read - highly recommend!
I really enjoy reading Pamela Crane's books. There are always twist and turns to keep my attention. If you like a good mystery you should try out this book or some of her others or all of them.
This was a well paced psychological thriller. There were many twists and turns. As it neared the end, the pace picked up and I could not stop reading. I was a little concerned we were going to be left with unanswered questions, but all questions were answered and the story wrapped up nicely.
This book is marketed as "suburban fiction," but I would like to propose a new category: "suburban drama with murder and humor". Ms. Crane has managed to tell us a story about the sordid business of gruesome murders and add a spark with a bit of humor, a bit of sleuthing, and a whole lot of neighborhood drama.
Shari has moved into a neighborhood she thought was safe. She thought she was the only criminal - make that ex-con - living there. She teaches photography classes to make ends meet, and while she knows she didn't commit any crimes, she is glad the one guy who did is dead and gone. She has two secrets: one is in a wooden frame her husband gave her as a gift, the other is behind the bookcase that harbors a hidden room, with the click of a Nancy Drew book.
What ensues is a series of coincidences, thefts, and near-death experiences that have the neighborhood buzzing. And now, Shari has to deal with her brother, her mother, cold-eyed neighbors, AND the police.
You'll want to read this all the way to the end to find out what secrets everyone is keeping, and to see if Shari gets to keep her secrets.
Thanks to the author, Pamela Crane, for an advance reader's copy.
This was another book that I got through Goodreads Giveaways! Overall it wasn’t my favorite mystery/thriller book, I found myself not really caring about the characters or what happened for most of the story. Giving it an extra star because I thought it had a good twist at the end!
Read for book club. 2.5 stars, not my favorite. I usually devour a book within a day or two, but this one didn’t suck me in and it was a chore to pick it back up. It dragged. The writing wasn’t bad by any means, but I was bored for most of the book and didn’t care about the characters, or solution, at all. It just wasn’t for me.
I was gifted Everybody Has a Secret by Pamela Crane herself, and she asked for an honest review, so here it is.
The story follows photojournalist Shari Catalano, a woman living a lie and unable to fully trust anyone due to a traumatic past. When her best friend and neighbour suddenly vanishes, Shari becomes the prime suspect, she was the last person to speak to her. Is she guilty, or is someone framing her?
As Shari secretly watches her neighbourhood through her vintage camera, what she uncovers proves to be dangerous and potentially deadly.
I truly enjoyed the fast-paced chapters; it felt like reading true crime with a strong thriller edge. Crane’s writing is beautiful and controlled, and she sets up the plot and characters with real precision. Her fictional characters are genuinely unhinged, I don’t blame her husband for sleeping with one eye open at night.
Pick up Everybody Has a Secret if you love gripping thrillers that feel fresh and different, not your typical paint-by-numbers suspense.
New book from another new author for me! Thanks to the author for providing a free copy. This book is intriguing from the start, grasping you and making you want to keep turning the pages. I love the short chapters and it’s both annoying and clever to end every chapter on a cliffhanger sentence, which makes you want to start the next chapter. It makes it impossible to say okay just one more chapter before I get out of the bath… next thing I know the book is read and my water is cold. Well done 👍. The only criticism I have is that I think it would have been interesting to add another persons point of view in there… especially towards the end… just to throw off the audience but honestly I loved this twisty little thriller. I could feel how the story was going to go because subtle hints were dropped along the way (which I loved) but still thought it was a great book. 5⭐️
A body on page one? Yes, please! Super quick read that I didn’t want to put down. I felt like every chapter ended on a bit of a cliffhanger, always leaving me eager for more. Pamela’s books are always so easy to read, with lots of small-town drama and characters that feel like someone you know.
In EVERY BODY HAS A SECRET, we’re in Doomwood Falls, and Shari Catalano has a past she isn’t willing to talk about and more secrets than one woman should have to handle!? When her best friend and next-door neighbor, Ivory, goes missing, the entire neighborhood has their own take on what happened, and Shari is left not knowing who she can trust, so everyone becomes a suspect. But she also knows that someone knows her secret, one she CAN NOT let get out.
Devoured this and every single one of Pamela Cane’s books! As usual, I just wanted more. Highly recommended book and author! <3
Once again, Ms. Crane has created a book that is almost impossible to put down once you've started reading. And when you get about 3/4's of the way through, don't even blink hard because the twists and turns come so fast that you'll miss something important if you do! A couple of times, I thought my head was going to be twisted off from all the unexpected revelations. It's just crazy. Oh, and don't forget one of my favorite things about Ms. Crane's writing - her sense of humor. All of her characters have a smart mouth, and I LOVE it!! I wish I could give it more than 5 stars, but I can't. In case you haven't figured it out, I highly recommend this book and anything else by Ms. Crane. I received a review copy from the author at my request, and this review reflects my honest and voluntary opinion.
Oh my goodness, "Every Body Has a Secret" by Pamela Crane is an absolute thrill ride! From the very first page, I was completely hooked. The blurb on the cover says, "PUT ON A NECK BRACE BEFORE READING, BECAUSE THE TWISTS ARE SO GOOD YOU'RE GUARANTEED TO GET WHIPLASH!", and honestly, it's not wrong! This book delivers on every single promise. The plot twists kept me guessing the entire way through, and I seriously couldn't put it down. If you're looking for a psychological thriller that will keep you on the edge of your seat and make you question everything, then this is it. Five stars, hands down!
This book was honestly great from start to finish. No slow periods, no dragging. Straight, 100% THRILL. Every page left you wanting to know more, and you couldn’t help but love the intimate moments in the story and wonder in the back of your mind how this will tie into the complexity of it all. Shari’s character was so easy to like, she was blunt but loving as a friend, sister, and community member. Ivory’s character had you wondering early on…and finding out the truth about her made their friendship all the more touching. The way everyone tied into one another was genius…I suppose I’ll be reading some more of Pamela Crane’s work.
4.5 ⭐ A really fun thriller! The characters have depth so it's hard to tell who is up to no good. Great story, well written, unpredictable ending. I highly recommend!
A very twisty and thrilling read! I absolutely loved reading Everybody Has A Secret, I was caught off Guard several times! The fmc and her family was awesome to read about, I love the relationship she has with her brother. He is her protector, no matter what. Definitely recommend!!
whoa this book was insane in the best way! I was completely hooked. Loved the twists and turns throughout, but that ending was a real banger! My jaw is still on the floor.
I need more! I feel like a sequel can be made with that ending! This book had me constantly guessing what was happening, and when I thought I had the “whodunit” I definitely did not!!
If you like puzzles you’ll love this new book by Pamela Crane. Every chapter adds a new piece to fit into the complexity of the plot. A true Alfred Hitchcock who dun it!
I am thankful to receive this book to review. It was a thrilling ride. I will say that there is a lot that happens in this book. And A lot of characters and story lines to follow. Every time it felt to drag or that I felt like I knew what was going on, there would be a twist that I was expecting.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book. If you’re wondering if this book is for you, give it a try! You won’t be disappointed.

This was my first Pamela Crane book and it didn’t disappoint. There were lots of twists and everyone had their own secrets. The double shocker of an ending was a nice touch a that I didn’t see coming.
LOVED this book! So many twists and turns! I was actually saving this book for a flight. I had some time so I figured I would read a little the day before my flight, well.... I could not put it down! I did not go to bed until I finished the book and didn't save any of it for my flight. Very hard to put down, highly recommend if you are looking for something that keeps you guessing and you can't put down!
For a moment I wondered if I had my books confused seeing the 5 star reviews. It’s absolutely impossible to relate to any of the many characters in this book as they are all utterly horrible & speak to each other like sh!t one second then are friends the next, it’s totally unrealistic, I don’t know a soul who would put up with it. They are all rude. Even the protagonists own mother behaves completely unreasonably for no apparent reason. The story is vague all the way through, a little mystery is great but details weren’t held back in a suspenseful way, just a boring way so I ended up losing interest. Silly ‘twist’. No real hero’s & no real villains to love to hate. I only persevered because it was a book club read.
Dnf at 25% I just can't read a book when a grown man who has been in PRISON is dating an 18 year old girl STILL IN HIGH SCHOOL. And the main character is just cool with not telling the girl's mom aka HER BEST FRIEND. I can't. And it was hard for me to get into in the first place.

"Every Body Has a Secret" is unputdownable focusing on the breakneck pacing of the story and the chilling atmosphere of Doomwood Falls. If you think you know your neighbors, think again. Pamela Crane has crafted a relentless, nerve-shredding thriller that proves the most picturesque lives are often the deadliest.
The story of Shari Catalano, a disgraced photojournalist hiding in plain sight, hooked me from the very first page. I loved the atmospheric use of her vintage camera and darkroom—it added a voyeuristic, 'Rear Window' vibe that made every chapter feel like a high-stakes secret I shouldn't be seeing. Shari is the ultimate unreliable narrator; you want to root for her, even as her 'polished lie' of a life begins to crumble.
The pacing is a absolute zig-zag sprint. Just when I thought I had the mystery of the missing neighbor solved, Crane pulled the rug out from under me with a twist I genuinely didn't see coming. The revelation of what Shari is hiding in that locked room left me reeling!
This is easily one of the best 'suburban noir' books of 2026. It’s dark, clever, and guaranteed to give you whiplash. I’ll never look at a candid photo the same way again!
I was fortunate to be given the opportunity of reading an E-ARC of author Pamela Crane's latest Psychological Thriller, "Every Body Has a Secret" in exchange for my honest review. Publication date 2/17/2026. Thank you Pamela Crane, this is definitely a 5 STAR book!
