He doesn’t play by the rules when it comes to saving her.

Grady is a high-voltage lineman with a reputation that keeps people at distance. He’s the man you call when the world is breaking, but his past won't allow him to stay.

Delaney is just trying to keep her head above water and a roof over her daughters' heads.

But life has a way of dismantling the strongest people.

When their paths collide, the story doesn’t follow the safe rules of a neighbor romance. It dives into the grit, the mistakes and the heavy reality of two people trying to find a way to ground each other.

Prepare for an emotional journey that hits hard and heals deeper.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Silent Static by Tessa Brookfield

This was my first read from Tessa Brookfield, and it completely swept me up in its raw emotion and heart. Silent Static is touching, heavy, and incredibly human in a way that lingers long after the last page.

The story follows Delaney, a single mother trapped in a physically and verbally abusive relationship. She’s doing everything she can to keep her daughters safe while trying to survive the vicious cycle she’s stuck in. Her struggle felt painfully real to me I’ve lived pieces of her story, and seeing that vulnerability on the page hit hard. Brookfield captures that feeling of being trapped, hopeful, scared, and exhausted all at once.

Then there’s Grady the new neighbor with a protective streak and a past that’s left him believing he doesn’t deserve love. He hears the arguments, sees the danger, and steps in not out of heroism, but out of genuine care. His connection with Delaney’s daughter, and the way he quietly shows up for this family, made my heart ache in the best way.

Their relationship is slow, messy, tender, and full of push and pull. It’s two broken people trying to find something steady in each other, and the journey is anything but easy. The writing is strong, the pacing kept me hooked, and the emotional depth is what truly makes this story shine. I read it in one day because I simply couldn’t look away.

A solid four‑star read heartfelt, vulnerable, and beautifully written.

-⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️- I got this as an arc when I was hitting a slump and this book definitely got me out of it.
The emotions were high and raw and I could not put the book down. The ending was so heartwarming and i’m happy that they got their HEA.
I can totally see this getting a movie🙈

Silent Static by Tessa Brookfield is an emotional contemporary romance that digs deep into grief, survival, healing, and finding connection when life feels impossible.

Grady is a lineman who has built walls around himself, carrying the weight of a painful past that keeps everyone at arm’s length. Delaney is doing everything she can to keep her family afloat while raising her daughter and navigating the challenges life continues to throw her way. When their lives intersect, their relationship doesn’t follow the typical romance formula. Instead, it feels raw, authentic, and deeply human.

What stood out most was how realistic the characters felt. Neither Grady nor Delaney is perfect, and their struggles, mistakes, and vulnerabilities made them easy to connect with. The emotional depth is one of the book’s greatest strengths. Brookfield isn’t afraid to tackle difficult subjects, and the heavier themes add weight and meaning to the story.

The romance develops naturally amid the chaos of everyday life, creating a relationship that feels earned rather than rushed. While there are heartbreaking moments throughout, there is also hope, healing, and growth woven into the narrative.

Readers should pay attention to the content warnings, as some themes may be difficult for sensitive readers. However, for those who enjoy emotional romances that balance heartbreak with healing, Silent Static delivers a powerful reading experience.

“It was more than the absence of noise, it was the absence of the fight. The static had bottomed out. I watched the steady rise and fall of her chest and realized the static was gone because I finally found somewhere to land.”

Silent Static by Tessa Brookfield is an emotional, angsty romance filled with flawed characters trying to break free from the cycles holding them back. Brookfield's writing is beautifully melodic, flowing effortlessly from scene to scene with poetic prose and metaphors that add depth to every emotion!
Grady immediately stood out to me as a protector and caretaker at heart. More than anything, he just wants Delaney and her daughters to be safe, happy, and cared for.
This isn't a sweet or straightforward romance. It's rough, unconventional, and messy in ways that feel true to the characters. Delaney is trapped in a toxic relationship and work environment, while Grady is caught in his own toxic pattern of running whenever things become difficult instead of choosing to face them head-on. Their imperfections make them compelling, and the layers those struggles add to the story kept me invested! I was really rooting for them.
There is plenty of angst and a lot of push and pull between Delaney and Grady, while I did feel they got together a little quickly, I appreciated the emotional journey they went on afterward. Watching them stumble, overcome obstacles together and as individuals, and ultimately find their way back to each other made for a satisfying conclusion that really felt earned.
A beautifully written romance with complicated characters, intense emotions, and a rewarding ending!

Thank you so much to the author for a copy for review!

Silent Static is a book that really gets under your skin and truly moved me! It’s full of emotion and characters who give it their all.

From the very first page, I was completely drawn into the story and really enjoyed it! The story felt very real and realistic. Nothing over-the-top, sappy, or cliches about being in love…..just a beautiful story of love and trust. Overall, the book was on the shorter side, fast-paced and I read it really quickly. It’s very easy to read and clear, and you can easily finish it in a day because the story is so captivating.

I loved Delaney and Grady! Grady, in particular, had a wonderful personality and his relationship with the two kids was heartwarming and so loving! He wasn’t the over-the-top, aggressive protector type….instead, he learned from his behavior and his mistakes. I really loved his growth, as well as how his relationship with Delaney developed and how he realized what truly makes him happy! Delaney also deeply moved me with all her strength and love for her family and how she sacrificed herself for them. She went through so much but never let it get her down. A beautiful story. There were also some heavy themes that were very moving so please check the trigger warnings. Sometimes the story moved a bit too fast for me and some parts/dialouges were repetitive, but I overall really enjoyed it.

This book had me laughing, smiling, and even crying and it really touched me deeply! Sooo many raw emotions and an incredibly beautiful story! A truly human and honest book about love, healing and family, with a cozy touch that feels like coming home! A very solid, moving book!

This emotionally powerful book draws readers in from the very first page with its heartfelt and realistic story about love, healing and family. The characters feel deeply human, especially the two MC‘s, whose growth and relationships are portrayed in a touching and authentic way without relying on clichés or exaggerated drama. Despite occasionally feeling rushed or repetitive, the fast pace, emotional depth, and cozy atmosphere make it a moving and memorable read.

Thank you, Tessa, for sending me an ARC in exchange for my honest review:)

**tiny spoiler(?)**

This book was just what I needed to change up my usual pace what I’ve been reading lately. I nearly finished this in a day (oops, lol), so that speaks a bit of volume! It was an engaging, dynamic read that featured serious themes balanced by a push and pull love story that had such a heartwarming

It’s so realistic, and it isn’t your average 1D romance where things just come easily alongside the usual clichés. The topics discussed are heavy, and the angst/tension runs high at times, which is exactly what kept me flipping pages to see what happens next.

I loved seeing how Delaney and Grady’s relationship blossomed once he started to realize that he couldn’t live without her + her kids 🫶🏻. Seeing his character transform from someone who was literally as cold as “stone” (no pun intended XP) to someone who finally deems himself worthy of being loved/having a family. Although, I wish he did more groveling lol—it felt a little too quick in a sense when Delaney caved in once and for all after his linemen rendezvous up North. However, I can see how it fits the plot and how it relates to what she’s been through.

As far as what the book could’ve done better, there isn’t much in my opinion. Again, more groveling would’ve been great/more resistance from Delaney during her independent, girl boss arc. The book also had a few grammatical errors and character name misspellings (but tbh, considering that the name belong to a certain degenerate male character… I couldn’t care less 🤭). I also felt that the metaphors/phrases used throughout the book became a little repetitive—especially ones related to Grady’s occupation. It would’ve been nice to see a small shift away from how he thinks in electrical terminology (?? don’t know if that’s the right way to put it) to one that’s more normal. I feel like that would signify a more concrete change in his character as he begins pursuing a serious relationship with Delaney.

The ending was super sweet and had me tearing up tho 🥹🥹. It was the perfect ending to me for such a complex love story!

This book pulled me in with it's atmosphere and didn't let go!

This book isn't your typical "meet-cute, fall in love, everything's fine" kind of romance. It's heavier than that, in a good way. The kid of story where you can feel the weight of everything the characters are carrying. The grit, the mistakes the past that won't stay buried… it all feels real.

The only that that pulled me out a bit in the beginning was how often the writing circled back to the "power" references. I understood the symbolism early on, and it felt slightly overdone at first. But once the story found its rhythm, that faded into the background.

Delaney's experience didn't just feel written, it felt lived. you could feel it in the way she moved through the story, the way she carried everything she'd been through. That emotional weight hit hard, and in a lot of ways it also healed something. This book got me right in the feels and somehow managed to mend my sad little heart a bit along the way.

Grady is exactly the kind of MMC I LOVE! Quietly intense, protective, a little broken and not trying to be a hero….but still showing up like one. I mean come on the coin, the hugs, the showing up when it was hard…..ugghhhh I hope she gets pregnant!!! Yes I realize she is fictional!

What stood out the most for me was the emotional depth. This wasn't about spice, it was about connection & healing. Two people trying to find steady ground in the middle of chaos….and honestly that hit way harder.

If you like romance that leans into emotional weight and imperfect characters… this book is so worth it. Get ready to be in your feels from this book, I loved it!

⭐⭐⭐✨ 3.5 Star Review

Silent Static – Tessa Brookfield

Silent Static was an emotional read that pulled me in from the very beginning. This story explores some incredibly difficult topics, including domestic abuse, trauma, PTSD, and survivor's guilt, so definitely check the content warnings before diving in.

Delaney's journey felt raw, heartbreaking, and realistic as she fights to protect her daughter while trying to find a way out of an abusive situation. There were moments that were difficult to read, but they were handled with care and added so much depth to her character.

Grady was easily one of my favourite parts of the book. He's protective without being overbearing, and the way he quietly shows up for Delaney and her daughter melted my heart. Watching their relationship develop was a slow, emotional journey filled with healing, trust, and hope.

The found family aspect was beautifully done, and I loved seeing two broken people slowly learn that they deserved happiness. While I enjoyed the story overall, there were a few sections where the pacing felt a little slower for me, which is why this lands at 3.5 stars rather than higher.

If you enjoy emotional romances with protective heroes, found family, healing after trauma, and a well-earned happily ever after, Silent Static is definitely worth picking up.

Rating: ⭐⭐⭐✨ (3.5/5)
A heartfelt and emotional romance with powerful themes, lovable characters, and a journey of healing that stays with you long after the final page. ❤️📚

This is a 4.5 ⭐️ read for me!

I received this book as an ARC from the author, right from the blurb I was intrigued. This book was an absolute rollercoaster, it wrecked me over and over again. It was raw and emotional, a story of two broken people trying to get it right while making a lot of mistakes along the way.

Grady is protective, hardworking, and strong. But he is also clueless as to how to have a normal life, the life he doesn’t think he deserves. He makes some questionable choices, but his heart is in the right place if he would just get out of his own head and stop running.

Delaney is a single mom of two girls, in the throes of a life that none of them deserve. She is hardworking, strong, loving, but also so lost. Her growth in this book was so beautiful to see.

This was definitely a very emotional read, with a lot of push and pull, but I really genuinely loved it so much. By the end of it all my heart was so full after so much heartbreak. I’m so happy with how it ended and I’m so glad I read it. 💚

Thank you, Tessa, for trusting me with an ARC copy of Silent Static. It was an emotional and unforgettable read. ❤️ Silent Static isn’t your typical romance where two people meet, fall in love, and live happily ever after. This story is messy, painful, and heartbreakingly real. Both characters carry deep trauma from their pasts, and their journey reflects the difficult reality of healing.
Please, please check the trigger warnings before picking this up. I can’t stress that enough. The author doesn’t shy away from the harsh realities of domestic violence, abuse, and manipulation. Some scenes felt incredibly raw and unsettling because they didn’t read like fiction, they felt like something that could happen to real people.
This isn’t a fairy tale. It’s a story about survival, healing, and finding your way through the darkness. I’d love to say this isn’t everyone’s story, but the truth is that for far too many people, it is. ❤️

This was an emotional and beautifully written story that felt incredibly real. The author didn’t rely on unrealistic fixes or a perfect happily-ever-after. Instead, we get two deeply flawed and broken characters navigating their own struggles while learning valuable lessons about themselves along the way.

The emotional depth of this book is what stood out most to me. The characters felt authentic, their pain was believable, and their growth felt earned. There are some difficult topics covered, so I recommend checking the trigger warnings beforehand, but they were handled with care and purpose.

Even though this was a shorter read, it never felt rushed. The pacing flowed well, and I found myself invested in the characters from beginning to end. Overall, this was a heartfelt, raw, and memorable story that I would definitely recommend.

I think this story came at the right time for me. A heartache I could have been saved from or a heartache still to come. Not all of us realise that the mistakes we make today, don't have to decide our future.
Tessa didn't hold back on words and actions that needed to happen. Whether we have been in similar situations or not, the media has made us aware that this can and does happen. What we need is somebody who can be there even if it is to finally hear the silence. I will definitely be on the lookout for more from this author.

First of all, I'm not crying. You're crying.
It took me a minute to find my words as this story buried itself into my heart.
Delaney and Grady. The FMC and MMC. 2 broken people who fell into each other's orbits. 2 people who had, to some extent, shut down but had to keep trying to move forward. 2 broken people trying to navigate their traumas, their lives, and each other.
And 2 little munchkins, who had seen and heard too much. Seriously, my heart!
This story will live rent-free in my head for a very long time.
This story touches on some heavy hitting topics. So check your triggers.

This was a well written emotional book. It didn't give us the story we expected, boy saves girl from a bad relationship and they live happily ever after! This story was real, and raw. Two very broken people meet and they learn from each other and learn about themselves in the process too (alone at that). It has some trigger warnings and I would advise looking at those prior but the triggers were done well. I really enjoyed the read. It was a shorter story but I still felt it wasn't rushed. I recommend the read.

This was a new author for me and I went into this one blind. This is a story of the main characters finding strength and forgiveness, not only together but individually. Each with different pasts, different struggles and both lacking decision making skills in the beginning. Angsty, raw and full of feelings! Check the trigger warnings before reading. Overall, I enjoyed this book and will look for more from this author.

I really enjoyed this book! It had such a different take on relationships and the highs and lows and even the obstacles that come with it. It was raw and emotional, and you felt like the characters were real.

The author did a fantastic job of relaying the thoughts, emotions, and feelings of the FMC and MMC. I loved that it wasn't all cute and cozy but seemed REAL. And that the MMC had a job that shaped his character. You can tell there was some research done on that.

The ending moved a little bit quicker than I would have liked, but overall, the story was perfect.

Silent Static had a strong emotional core, and I really liked the protective dynamic between Grady and Delaney. The themes of trauma, healing, and found family added a lot of heart to the story, and there were definitely moments that pulled me in emotionally.

However, the pacing felt uneven at times, and I never fully connected to the romance the way I wanted to. The repeated power/electrical references and metaphors also became a little too repetitive for me and occasionally pulled me out of the story.

Overall, this was a solid read with some emotional moments, but it didn’t fully stand out for me personally.

This was an amazing book, I couldn't stop reading!
Two broken pieces trying to find each other in the storm, but had to wait for the storm to pass to be with each other.
That's how it felt..
Delaney, a single mom of two in an abusive relationship, meeting the closed off neighbour who thinks because of the mistakes he made, he can't have anyone in his life.
The heartbreak and tough subjects are real, but definitely worth the read❤️
