Shay Dawn does it again. Chase is a football player being accused of abusing his ex. Amaya is a the bad ass attorney who reads people for filth as a hobby. I loved Chase and Amaya. Loved their banter. Amaya go toe to toe with Chase which is how he fell in love. It took her a lil minute to admit her feelings but they’re both down bad. This was fun and light hearted. Chase got me tight a couple times cuz he was gonna allow loyalty to mess up his career. I was glad when he got it together. This is book 2 to Love at a Funeral. The timeline is the same with different characters. I enjoyed reading. I would recommend.

I knew Amaya's book would be a good time, since meeting her in 'Love at a Funeral' and it didn't disappoint. Shay Dawn is 4/4 for me, I can now pick up one of her books and know I am going to have a good time. We met Amaya in book 1, as Mona's best friend, no filter, says whatever comes to mind, and a little feisty. Book 2 is interconnected, and runs at the same time, while can be read as a standalone I would say read both.
Let's meet the characters, you have Amaya, black successful attorney, and doesn't like to lose, and is feared by her colleagues. She is dealing with the microaggressions and undermining in the workplace. Then you have Chase, NFL player whose season just ended with a loss. These 2 meets after Chase was accused of assault by his ex-girlfriend. Let's just say the first meeting with these 2 didn't go as planned and they got off on the wrong foot. Both of them know how the clap back and immediately bumped heads. With Amaya representing Chase, they start to be in close proximity, and the chemistry was strong. Amaya was determined to not blur the professional lines; However, Chase had his eyes set, and made it clear, she will be his when the case was over.
When I say I laughed from the chapter titles to the end of this book 🤣. The way Shay is able to still address different serious topics but still add humor. You will be laughing out loud and kicking your feet, from Chase having a flip phone to the spicy scenes. I love their love story, it felt real and relatable. I love that Shay included case updates on page, and it felt like we got to be in the courtroom start to finish. The story was well pace and followed them through the off season into the following season. I loved seeing Amaya slowly let her guard down and allow Chase to be the man she needed. From early in the story, he spoke life into her and was intentional with how he showed up for her. This story was just what I needed, and I can't wait to see what else she writes.

Shay Dawn did exactly what needed to be done with this one.
Chase and Amaya had me smiling from the first chapter. Their back-and-forth was effortless, and watching Amaya refuse to let Chase get away with anything made their chemistry even better. She met him head-on every single time, and you could see exactly why he fell so hard for her.
One thing about Chase, he tested my patience a few times. His loyalty had him making choices that could have cost him everything. Thankfully, he got out of his own way because this man knew how to love with intention. The way he consistently showed up for Amaya and poured into her made my heart so full.
I laughed through this entire book. From the chapter titles to Chase's flip phone, the humor landed every single time. Shay found the perfect balance between tackling serious topics and giving me moments that had me kicking my feet and laughing out loud.
I also loved getting the courtroom perspective woven throughout the story. It made me feel like I was right there watching everything unfold. Add in the slow emotional growth, the chemistry, and a romance that felt genuine, and this one easily earned all five stars.
Shay Dawn... keep them coming because I'm reading every single one.

Shay Dawn has done it again! This laugh out loud romantic comedy had me staying up grinning and kicking my feet! The characters are so funny and the banter is so good. The spice shines through as well as the longing. Chase loves him some Amaya and she don’t really like him like that (IYKYK) lol. Such a great read, Shay!

July 9, 2026I think this book is perfect for those who loved Curvy Girl Summer. Amaya and Chase had the same kind of easy, teasing banter as Aaliyah and Ahmad. Although I did find some of the things they said hilarious, just like how I felt with CGS at times, the banter just went on and one and wasn't really doing anything to enhance the story and after a while, I got tired of the jokes because it didn't feel like the story was going anywhere.
Secondly, I want to just say, I am a potty mouth. I cuss all the time, at all occasions and I used to take issue with the fact that people had an issue with people who often use profanity. However, reading this book, I kind of get it. Amaya was nigga this, shit this, fuck you that every other sentence and I was like girl. Chase is STILL a client and the way she behaved was extremely unprofessional and not funny at all. She's one of the most sought-after attorneys yet cusses out potential clients (not that he didn't deserve it, but time and place) using the word "pussy" to do it, as was about to fight her client's accuser at a party. She just didn't carry herself like I felt like a professional lawyer should. Not to mention, her assistant fucking someone at a business event they went to. I was like, is this supposed to be funny? And maybe I'm just not in a smut mood, but her constantly talking about how sexy Chase was and how she wanted to ride his face and dick all the time just turned me off to the romance. Kind of like "Only for the Week". When it starts off so sexually charged, on both their ends, I start to lose sight of the romance. And truly, did we need a play by play of Chase playing with his pocket pussy? I was so turned off of him after that (lol) And they had sexual chemistry for sure, but I didn't sense an actual bond or connection despite Chase's attempt to run off all of Anaya's potential suitors. He was doing this at a point in the story where nothing had been shown to make him not wanting her to be with anyone else make sense. They barely knew each other.
I think this is one I just may come back to since I did buy it instead of renting from KU. I just may not be in the mood for this book/story right now because I usually love me some Shay Dawn. I just aint in the mood for this one right now. So I'll be back...i think! lol

Smart Mouths, A Flip Phone, Good Vibes, & Profound Growth!
Amaya Lewis is truly a force to be reckoned with. She is a highly reputable attorney, and is brought in to represent Chase Andrews, a pro football player who finds himself caught in an unfortunate and life/career-threatening situation. From their very first meeting, the tension was undeniable (thanks to grumpy Chase). The smart commentary, constant push-and-pull, and stubborn personalities made their dynamic so entertaining to read. They were both incredibly bullheaded and determined to have things their way, but with his livelihood on the line, Chase quickly realized he had no choice but to trust Amaya.
I was completely engaged from beginning to end. Shay Dawn did an amazing job handling sensitive topics with care while balancing the heaviness with humor, witty banter, and emotionally grounding moments that kept the story from feeling overwhelming. The chemistry between Chase and Amaya was undeniable, and the fact that he fell first? Yeah, I was absolutely here for it!
What made this story stand out even more was the emotional growth both characters experienced. Chase and Amaya both carried deep-rooted issues that took time, patience, and vulnerability to confront. Watching them slowly break down those walls felt realistic and rewarding. Chase especially had to learn that it was not his responsibility to save everyone, particularly when doing so meant sacrificing himself and the career he worked so hard for. Overall, this was an emotional, entertaining, and beautifully balanced read that kept me invested the entire time.
One of my favs.: “I couldn’t continue to love her more than she loved herself, and I couldn’t keep hurting myself trying to hold onto her.”

This was such a fun, engaging read from start to finish.
One thing this author consistently does well is dialogue and this book was no exception. The banter between the characters was colorful, witty, and had me smiling or giggling the entire time. It felt natural and effortless, which made it so easy to get pulled into their world.
Chase and Amaya’s relationship development was a standout for me. Their love story was so believable. You could see how they got there…through their interactions, their chemistry, and especially their vulnerable moments. They had to fight a little to get there but both were so likable that I was rooting for them! And the conflicts didn’t drag out.
The writing style is super relatable and flows so smoothly that the story never drags. It honestly felt like I was just experiencing life alongside the characters rather than reading a book.
I also loved the subtle callbacks to Love at a Funeral. If you’ve read it, you’ll appreciate the connections but if you haven’t, you won’t feel lost at all. That balance is hard to pull off with interconnected standalones, and it was done really well here.
Like with all of this author’s books, I was greedy by the end and I didn’t want it to be over. I’d absolutely read more of Chase and Amaya’s story (especially a glimpse into their future 👀).

Love In Pursuit was hilarious, romantic and a little messy in the best way and I loved every second of it (I literally was up to 4am reading) This enemies-to-lovers romance had me grinning, swooning and literally laughing out loud.
Amaya Lewis is a defense attorney with a sharp mouth, quick wit, and zero patience for nonsense. She swore off love after a bad breakup and has focused on her career and family…Until she meets Chase Andrews.
Chase Andrews is pro football player carrying the pressure of wanting one final Super Bowl win before retirement, but when a lawsuit from his ex threatens everything he’s built, the stakes become even higher. So his team hires Amaya.
What made this story so good was how naturally the chemistry developed. Beneath all the arguments, sarcasm, and tension was vulnerability, healing, and two people learning to trust again.
Shay Dawn did such a great job balancing humor, romance, drama, and emotional moments without making the story feel too heavy. This story is happening simultaneously with Love At A Funeral (please read, you will not be disappointed), so it was great to see my favs from that book make appearances. Shay gave us the couple I didn’t know I needed with Amaya and Chase. Their story happening at the same time as Mona’s made me way too happy because it felt like getting bonus time with characters I already loved.
Amaya was all of us! A baddie, bossy, and dead serious about her business. Sis was focused on her career and came to handle a job, not play around. Even when she came off a little rough around the edges, she always knew exactly who she was, and I loved that confidence.
Now Chase… whew. That man was too nice at times, too forgiving, and definitely too cheap for me, but somehow it worked for him. He was a millionaire that was cheap! The chemistry between them felt natural from the beginning, and their relationship took us through drama, trials, mess, and moments that showed how well they truly clicked together.
I also loved seeing Mona and the girls pop up throughout the story because it kept everything connected. Meeting Amaya’s family was another highlight because they were a whole good time by themselves.
What I enjoyed most was how well the story flowed. There was always something happening no unnecessary fluff, no dragging moments, just constant movement, conversations, and entertaining drama. Amaya and Chase were unexpected, but they worked so well together and made this story a fun ride from beginning to end.

Baby, Shay Dawn is BACK and once again proving that she can write some banter 😮💨. I don't know what she puts in these conversations, but I be cackling every time!
This time around, we have Amaya, a lawyer who is fresh off winning a monumental case. Sis is out here making moves when her name gets dropped to football star Chase, who finds himself needing some legal representation to get himself out of a sticky situation. Now, this type of case isn't exactly Amaya's cup of tea, but she puts her feelings aside and takes the job.
Enter Chase.
And baby, why is this man loud, stubborn, and CHEAP?! 😂 Sir, didn't you just sign a 40-million-dollar contract? Why are we counting pennies over here?!
And when I tell y'all these two do NOT get along at first… whew. Oil and water ain't got nothing on them. Every interaction had me laughing because they were constantly getting under each other's skin. I honestly spent half the book trying to figure out how they were gonna make it through all this tension without one of them catching a case 😭.
The banter? Top tier.
The chemistry? There.
The annoyance? Also there 😂.
Because why are y'all acting like this?! Hahahaha.
I laughed so much with this one and had such a good time watching these two navigate their mess. One thing about Shay Dawn, she's gonna give me some characters with personality and dialogue that feels so natural and funny that I feel like I'm sitting right there in the room with them.
And yes, I'm absolutely recommending this one. But before you jump into Love in Pursuit, go read Love at a Funeral first. Do you HAVE to? No. But why wouldn't you? 😌📚💜

We met Amaya in Love at a Funeral, the first book in this series, as one of Mona's friends and we got a little glimpse of what she had going on with Chase so I was happy they got their own story. Chase is someone who did not have the best reputation and is now facing some serious charges in a lawsuit which Amaya was called in to represent him on. When they first met it was automatic witty commentary in typical Shay Dawn fashion. Neither of them had a filter and it was funny to see how they interacted with one another.
Chase definitely fell first but Amaya had a lot of issues from her past relationship that she was dealing with so it took time for her to get on board. Chase also had his own things he was dealing with and learning that he couldn't please everyone especially not at his own expense. It was nice watching them talk life into the other at the times when they needed it most. The relationship didn't come easy with them but it was nice watching it grow to where it ended up. This book was a little heavier than previous ones; however, Shay did a good job with handling the sensitive topics with care and the added humor evened it out so it wasn't too heavy.

A hilariously sexy forbidden romance!
Shay Dawn is so funny and witty—she expertly uses popular jargon and social media references to enhance the story and, ultimately, to help us identify with her characters. They are just like us…chronically online! lol It was just enough to where it wasn’t overkill.
As for Amaya and Chase?! Sizzling hot. Once they had one go at each other, they couldn’t get enough! Chase’s frugality was a tad bit annoying, I mean a flip phone in the year of our Lord 2026?! But if Amaya likes it, I love it! lol I respect that he was smart with his money though.
I enjoyed the forbidden romance aspect of the story. Amaya is Chase’s attorney and the last person she should be sleeping with. Especially since her abusive ex was also an athlete. Amaya has very strong morals, she’s not afraid to gtf when she notices red flags and most of all, she got a smart mouth! lol both inside & outside of the bedroom. That combo of a package was hook, line and sinker for Chase!

Love in Pursuit was a great follow up after Love at a Funeral and occurs within the same timeline, including a few callbacks to the previous book. In this story we’re back in New Dawn meeting Amaya- who is hardworking, a little unhinged & absolutely hilarious. She has a not-so-great first meeting with Chase while working together until the sparks begin flying. Chase is a fine and very frugal footballer who's determined once he set his sight on Amaya.
The humor and hijinks in this book made for a great time. I love the layers that both of our characters had; they're loyal, caring and selfless when it comes to their friends and family but almost to their detriment. Coming together required some serious self-reflection and admitting hard truths. I'm very excited to see who will get a story next from this friend group.

ARC Review - An enemies to lovers book that will have you laughing and hot from all of the spiciness in this book! My favorite thing about this book are the intrusive thoughts of the FMC. Miss Amaya kept me cracking up and I had some of the same inner thoughts she had throughout this book. If you’re into a protective, rich, and love out loud MMC then Chase is the character for you. Now he did have me cussing him out at one part of the book, but I’m ok with that.
I’ve been indulged in Shay Dawns’ books since she dropped Love At a Funeral and I LOVE her writing style. My girl’s pen game is the truth! But really, with all of her books it’s guaranteed that I’m going to feel a connection to her characters through humor, there’s going to be some spicy scenes that have me clutching my pearls while smiling showing all 32, and it’s going to tug on my heart strings. I love her story lines and character development. This is a great read!

After reading Love at a funeral there was no way I wasn't gonna get into this book.
I always know when I get into a book with that Shay writes I'm gonna be laughing my ass off and I most certainly did!
I just loved how unhinged Amaya was and I really enjoyed the banter with her and Chase because these two went in on each other. Amaya ws very no nonsense and Chase was hard headed so both their personalities made them not back down from each other. That tension was bound to break and when it did it was everything. One thing about Chase he was frugal as hell and the flip phone jokes had me laughing till my stomach hurt.
I always enjoy the side characters and it was nice to see a little more about Mona and Trick Daddy Tahmir lol

4.5 ⭐️ Yes!! Once again, Shay and her comedic talent came through with another banger! I was so happy to see my girl Amaya get loved on. I fell in love with her character in the first book and couldn't wait to see what she had going on. She had such a big firecracker personality, and the things that came outta her mouth had me cracking up every time. Getting a deeper glimpse into Amaya’s side and learning why she kept so many walls up had me wanting to pay her ex a visit. It be the strong ones man... Seeing Chase come in with his lil flip phone and show her a kind of love she wasn’t used to, while handling her with care in all the ways she needed, was so refreshing and satisfying to watch unfold.

This book was sooooooo good!! I loooove a book with HILARIOUS banter and these two roasted tf outta each other! I laughed out loud so many times🤣 And the spice…when it finally happened…they went in🫣🌶️ Chase and Amaya had me yelling out loud all through this book. Amaya didn’t take mess from anybody, and her hands were def rated “e” for everybody! She didn’t start it, but she finished it for sure! Chase being cheap af and being a multimillionaire rationing out toilet paper had me weak af! This is my new favorite series, and I absolutely can’t wait for the next one! And that little sneak peak at the end…Miss Shay Dawn…we’ll be waiting patiently😘🫶🏾

*ARC REVIEW* Chase is going through a betrayal from his ex and his team decides to hire Amaya as his lawyer and he knew soon as she walked in he wanted her to be more than that. Amaya don’t play and stick to her rules but she’s having a time trying to stay strictly business with Chase even with her heart being closed off to love after a bad breakup. This story also takes place at the same time as Love at a Funeral.
This story had me hooked from the beginning and once I got to the end I was like damn it’s over 😂😂. I kicked my feet throughout this book and yes the spice is there Shay will always keep the door open.

I enjoyed reading Amaya and Chase’s story. I actually liked their story more than Mona and Tahmir’s story. I loved Amaya’s character and Chase has been added to my list of book baes. I swooned at Amaya’s relationship with her family and the way she stayed on “go” for her niece, Kadence. I loved how Chase applied that pressure and never let up off the gas when it came to Amaya and fight or flight response.
What I liked most about reading this book was Amaya and Chase’s comedic dialogue throughout the story; they had me cackling several times. Although there wasn’t a lot of angst (I usually like a healthy amount of angst in romance books), I really enjoyed this read.

Honestly, I could’ve read a few more chapters of this story because it was just that good!! I immediately got excited reading this book especially after I finished Love at a Funeral because Amaya clearly had something going on with Chase and now we know! This book was funny, spicy, and was the perfect sports romance that will make you fall in love with two characters who are perfect for each other. Chase and Amaya are funny!! And their banter made their relationship that much sweeter to read about. 10/10. No notes!

Amaya is a lawyer hired to fight Chase’s case thrown at him by a bitter ex. Chase made it known he didn’t want her help but soon found out that Amaya’s mouth is slick in AND out of the courtroom. This starts their journey from frenemies to lovers, even though Amaya fought it at every turn but Chase wasn’t hearing none of it!
I don’t think I’ve laughed this much with a book before! Their banter throughout the book is relatable and reminds you of a couple you know in real life. Shay does a great job of showing Amaya and Chase being vulnerable and learning to trust themselves and each other. And be prepared for the characters to be put through the mattress, countertop and/or the couch! 🤭

Yes! Love this couple down! This is my first read by this author and it was fire. The dialogue, plot and secondary characters were just as entertaining as Amaya and Chase. I love the determination of a man who knows exactly what he wants and I certainly enjoyed Amaya’s supposed toughness. This was a laugh out loud and cheesing throughout the entire read. So glad I found this author. Well done Ms. Dawn, well done!

Some scenes had me glued and ensconced to the point I re-read them more than once. I didn't always find Amaya's actions cute and Chase irked me trying to protect Chanel despite her BS, but overall, I loved how they both grew together. Another fun read from this author.
