Victoria Mabry’s debut novel, The Unbinding, is easily one of the best psychological stalker sapphic romances I’ve read. It delivers everything I look for in the genre - heart-pounding suspense, sizzling chemistry, emotional trauma, shocking twists, and plenty of “why choose” moments that keep the tension high from beginning to end.
The story follows two powerful mafia families as they unite to build an empire that seems impossible to break. But beneath the wealth, power, and loyalty lies a dangerous secret: the Donna of the mafia has a stalker. As if that weren’t enough, the story also introduces a serial killer who targets only the wicked, adding another layer of mystery and moral complexity to an already gripping plot. What begins as an unsettling game of cat and mouse quickly spirals into something much darker, with unexpected twists that kept me questioning everyone’s motives until the very end.
Victoria does an incredible job balancing psychological suspense with romance, creating characters who are layered, flawed, and impossible not to become invested in. The blend of mafia politics, obsessive love, and the looming threat of both a stalker and a vigilante-style serial killer makes this story feel fresh and impossible to put down. Every time I thought I had the mystery figured out, another revelation proved me wrong.
If you love dark sapphic romances packed with mafia intrigue, psychological tension, morally gray characters, obsessive love, a serial killer who only hunts the wicked, and plenty of spice, The Unbinding deserves a spot on your TBR.
