ALC from NetGalley - 3.5 stars rounded up - I wasn’t sure what to expect of this audiobook, but I did have some high hopes. To start off with a character name at the beginning of each chapter I knew we were gonna get some different perspectives throughout, which I always love, especially in a murder mystery. The reason the book ended up being 3.5 stars instead of four was the ending. I felt like it was such a strong beginning, but the ending just fell a little flat to me. I will say, the story definitely kept me guessing throughout, and I definitely had my own suspicions for certain characters. I felt like the mystery was drawn out well, and then it was like the book had to come to a close, so a lot of information was thrown at you within a few pages. I wish it had evolved a little slower and I think that would have made it into a bigger reveal at the end.
The Greek Island follows Amber's vacation to a remote Grecian island, Pelagia, with her boyfriend, Domonique and his four university friends. Everyone is hiding something and you, as the reader, can watch the delicious, fast-paced drama unfold with popcorn in hand. When old resentments bubble to the surface of this dysfunctional friend group, Amber is thrust headlong into dire consequences.
I wholeheartedly recommend this book for your next poolside thriller read. I quickly fell in love with the gorgeous windswept island setting. The plot is fast paced and engaging from beginning to end. The characterization really stood out to me; Amber and Victoria felt like real people (for better and for worse!) There was one reveal that was hyped up that did let me down a little bit but all in all I really enjoyed my reading experience.
I would definitely read from A J McDine again!

A destination thriller set on a remote Greek island near Crete - sounds deliciously twisty and it was!
Amber is the daughter of an alcoholic mother and was raised on a council estate by her Grandmother. She is dating Dominic, a wealthy graduate, who invites her to spend a week with his friends, in a luxury villa on the island of Pelagia. As you might expect, the group are snooty, judgy and bitchy and Amber is permanently on the back foot as it is clear she will never fit in.
After a dramatic evening out, where one of the group is found dead, everyone has a motive for the murder and Amber, as the outsider, is the obvious suspect.
As the investigation progresses, it is clear that everyone is hiding something and will go to any lengths to make sure their secrets aren’t exposed.
Amber is a genuine and relatable character and I was rooting for her, the others? Not so much! But they made for a drama filled read, perfect for a summer beach read.
4 ⭐️ Thanks to Netgalley, A. J. McDine and Bookouture, for an ARC of this book.
Three couples on a remote Greek island… what could possibly go wrong?
I just wanted to say firstly that I loved the main character of this book Amber as she just felt so real. She ends up on holiday with her new-ish partner Dom and four of his snobby uni friends, and tries her best to keep up with them all. Which isn’t easy when she had the opposite start in life growing up on a council estate with an alcoholic mother.
This was a classic case of whodunnit and I didn’t see most of the twists coming. There were stories within stories and I liked the chapters being told from multiple viewpoints. My only negative is that the ending fell a little flat for me after such a strong beginning and middle, but I did enjoy that final Epilogue.
I’m excited to read more books by author A J Dine!
Thank you to NetGalley for the audiobook, all opinions are my own.
i don't think i can take this seriously, idk if it's the characters who for some reason reads like they're not in 40s. but i had fun reading it, it's meh not that groundbreaking thriller, or even psychological thriller which is labeled in the cover.
