A risk prevention specialist with a tight grip on his heart meets the prince of pandemonium who wants to set it free.
For Rayden James, love means devastating loss, so he focuses his energy on growing his private security business and avoiding romantic entanglements at all costs. His dedication pays off when his company lands its largest account yet. But the ink is barely dry on the contract when a chaotic charmer crashes through his defenses and makes Ray crave things he shouldn’t want.
Atticus Livengood is not living up to his name after a teeny-tiny mistake costs him his career, his home, and his dignity. With his self-esteem circling the drain, Atticus makes overhauling his life the top priority. A new job offers the perfect fresh start until a hopeless attraction to the head of security threatens to trip him up.
Sparks fly from the jump, and each new encounter fuels a physical and emotional connection that refuses to be ignored. But surrendering to their desire means making themselves vulnerable to one another and a fickle universe that takes just as quickly as it gives. Will Ray and Atticus stand and deliver for a chance at love or play it safe and walk away?

I'm a wife and mother of three teenage kids. I've been married to the same wonderful man for twenty years. I've decided that if I can survive raising three kids then I can survive anything!! I haven't uttered the Mama's curse yet, but it could happen any day now. You know the one..."I hope you have a child just like you someday."
I'm an avid reader and lover of all things romance. I've spent my entire adult life waiting to follow my dreams of becoming a writer. One day this past summer, I decided to just do it. No more wishing and hoping. I haven't quit my day job, but that is my ultimate goal...make a living telling stories of love.
I write contemporary gay fiction. I hope you will love reading my books as much as I enjoy writing them.
Normally, I don't do slow burn, and I rarely indulge in it as well, but this was a good one. 📚 The relationship between Ray and Kit was amazing, and I enjoyed every moment with them, along with the teasing they got from the other Ravens, lol, especially Archer.
Overall, this was such an enjoyable and sweet read. 🍬 It took me a moment to realize I was at the end because I was so consumed, hehe.
Walker is one of my all time favorite MM romance authors. Sawyer and Royce are my Shane and Ilya.
I have loved and reread a lot of Aimee's work over the years, and was so excited for a new series. The premise sounded so good and right up my alley, but I reading Stand and Deliver... I was simply bored.
There are a lot of side characters who seem interesting upon introduction but are ultimately forgotten for the rest of the story.
The well-developed side characters are one of the biggest reasons I go back to Blissville and Savannah time and time and time again, so I know Walker is more than capable of carrying their stories right along with the main characters. Sawyer and Royce wouldn't be Sawyer and Royce without their families, their co-workers, their friends, even the people part of their investigations.
Rayden and Atticus (...sigh) have a lot of people in their lives who are supposed to be extremely important to them but not a single thing actually shows their importance to the reader. There are no meaningful conversations. No one's really showing up for them nor are they showing up for others. The side characters kind of just exist and honestly, removing any or all of them wouldn't change the story even a little.
Atticus' parents seem so fun and loving upon introduction - and they end up contributing absolutely nothing to the story even though Atticus living back home is supposed to be this big thing for him to accept and manage.
We're introduced to Ronni, a quirky and, once again, genuinely fun lesbian aunt of Atticus. We're once again told how extremely important she's been in Atticus' life but she's completely forgotten after her first appearance despite her living in the campus our main characters work and seem to spend all their time at.
Then there are the other four security guys who are Rayden's "platonic soulmates". He simply wouldn't be here without them - except he would and he kind of is, because once again, the other guys do nothing but exist. The most interesting thing about them is how they happen to have first names conveniently spelling raven. And if something so incredibly boring is the most interesting thing about five guys I'm supposed to be interested for a five book series... that's a problem.
Then there are Rayden and Atticus themselves. We're told they're attracted to each other and we're told there's chemistry. And once again, you guessed it, WE'RE NOT SHOWN IT a single fucking time. They're in love because... Aimee told you so!
Writing this made me question if two stars is actually being too generous. Ugh. I'll go back to Savannah.
Unfortunately, I have to be so honest and say this book really was not for me. Which is sad because Redemption Ridge was one of my favorite series of the last couple of years, most of those books hit and hit hard, which is why it was so sad to not immediately be able to sink into this.
I'll start off with the one thing that I really enjoyed, which was the setting. I LOVE me an old folks' home, and the residents were a blast. Partially because they were SUPPOSED to be cardboard cutouts of personality types, and they were! I enjoyed every time and every bit of banter had while they were on the page. In a vacuum, I could have also liked Rayden. He certainly had a lot of problems, but he also had a lot of trauma, and the horrific death of his former partner was only three years ago, so it's not hard to justify some of the choices he made. Finding someone you're interested in again after such a heavy loss has got to be an insanely difficult thing to confront, and I don't blame him for any of his starts or stops.
The problem is that when one of the partners is a mess, the other one kind of has to be the rock? Or at least have moments of stability to balance against. None of that applies to Atticus (can someone tell me how Kit is a nickname for Atticus?). His whole storyline with the stalker abusive ex just didn't seem well thought through to me? Like it was really only there for the first 20% of the story, we barely even got a consequences followup. And then because most of the emotional issues had to be coming from Rayden's side of camp, Atticus' trauma felt incredibly rushed over and squashed for the good of the story. Like you can't both make a stalker abusive ex a present-day character in the story AND treat it like it's just a backstory.
But the biggest issue for the sake of the series is that I either don't like or don't know any of the others on the security team. Archer crossed so many lines that he never got called out on (and the whole Bryan subplot was really irrelevant, although that's def a thread that can be picked up with the marketing person in the second book, so I'm not mad about that), Vaughn was super generic father figure, and the other two were just personality types with names. This is going to be a series that lives or dies on how we feel about the group at the core of it, you see it with brother books, with coworker books, with friend group books, like we have to like them! And right now I don't like them.
Thank you to GRR for a copy of the e-ARC in exchange for my thoughts, this is my (perhaps too) honest review.
I was so thankful to read this ahead of release day!
No spoilers 📚
Atticus and Rayden are absolute golden retrievers for eachother, they find eachother by accident after agreeing to a hook up but said hook up didn't happen.
They have a great set of friends who 100% the definition of found family.
This was so sweet and spicy! It was a little more of a slow burn than I usually read but Kit and Rays LONGING and PINING and THIRSTING for each other was so worth it! 💜
What a way to kick off this new series, the first one that isn't directly connected to the Blissville universe (that I can tell anyway).
Rayden and Atticus, aka Kit, are a perfect pairing because each one's vulnerabilities are what the other one can make stronger and they spark from the start, even if their initial meeting doesn't take place because of Ray's fears.
They both have suffered trauma, although Ray's background with his fellow RAVEN securities guys in the military and afterwards as private contractors, has seen more tragedy than Atticus', it isn't a contest to see who suffered most.
Instead, Kit's clunky and awkward insecurities make Ray take a hard look at his fears that anyone he lets in will result in him suffering another catastrophic loss and work out that he's not simply grieving, but hiding away.
And Ray's way of making Kit not feel like he's fool but instead a bright soul who brings joy to all around him, make their pairing an inevitable - if slow to take root - one.
The setting is superb, so many wonderful background characters already firmly formed, while the rest of the RAVEN guys will, obviously, take the roles in the rest of the series, each one already creeping into focus with just a few appearances on the page.
There's very little angst when it comes to the relationship itself, outside of the previous fear I mentioned which Ray holds quite honestly, but the outstand danger which presents itself does bring a very brief annoying Third Act crisis moment..
However, as this is Aimee, it doesn't last and is resolved incredibly quickly and in a way which felt realistic for the character and their nature.
All the other dramatic tensions in the plot come from external sources and, again, fitted into the narrative with ease and never felt out of place.
I'm very much looking forward to seeing the rest of the guys find their person and book two looks like it's going to be an absolute riot!
#ARC kindly received from the author via GRR Tours, I am voluntarily leaving a review.
Stand and Deliver was an entertaining start to the RAVEN Securities series. I appreciated the setting, an elite retirement community, as that's now somewhere I've typically found in many books.
So, right off the bat, Walker has given me something new to explore, which I think is great.
Atticus, or Kit, he of the many nicknames, is currently working at the retirement community while he tries to put the pieces of his life back together. A crash-and-burn romance has left him living with his parents and blacklisted from the world of his former career, so he's our typical damsel in distress.
Ray, our white knight, is wearing armor that's a bit tarnished, too. He's got some trauma sitting heavily on his very broad shoulders from his time as a Ranger, both connected to that experience and the untimely end of his most meaningful relationship.
Walker has paired them well, with Ray being able to give the strength, loyalty, and dependability that Atticus needs, and Atticus bringing in the sunshine to life Ray's clouds.
The main reason this wound up being a three-star for me was that it just didn't feel like it went deep enough.
There are moments where both of their pasts are addressed, but even though Ray is reluctant to have a new relationship in the beginning, it felt like once that spark was lit, the fire went full speed ahead. I think I was hoping for things to develop a little more slowly than they did, but that might be the curse of a standalone (or standalone in connected world series as the case may be).
There's a lot more pressure on letting that timing just right and letting the romance simmer long enough.
Now, three stars doesn't mean I didn't like it, because I truly did, but it just isn't a top pick for me if I'm rereading Walker's books. I'll still come back to RAVEN Security, and I'd like to read the others, but it's definitely on the list below her Zero Hour and Curl Up & Dye series.
There were lots of times that I smiled at this book and even giggled a few times. Kit is so eager and earnest and he fits in so well with the residents of Silver Maple. I love him for all his clumsy, enthusiastic glory and I love Ray for his steadiness & his appreciation of what makes Kit Kit. They are great together, with Ray helping Kit get his self esteem back and Kit helping Ray to let go of some of his guilt. Both of them have a lot of trauma to address, and a therapist is mentioned but no one actually sees one. I’m hoping that maybe that comes up more as we move through the other books because both of them deserve to be, and love as, their unabashed selves.
And I’m looking forward to the next books because I love the idea of the RAVEN guys. Found family / Band of Brothers type series are some of my favorites and there is so much potential here. These guys have traumas that they need to face in order to be able to truly live again, which means there is a lot of potential here. Unfortunately we didn’t really get to know them all that well. We’re introduced to them and given little hints but maybe we’ll have to wait for their individual books to really get to know them. Which is fine, but it just loses a little of that something special.
As a first book in a new series, taking on the work of introducing a new world, Walker does a good job with Stand and Deliver. It’s spicy and funny but also pulls at the heartstrings as both Kit and Ray, and later his friends, have to address past hurts. It’s a slow burn with a pretty obvious relationship issue that they have to get past, but I like the way Walker handles things and I have faith that she’ll take us somewhere good.
**I voluntarily read and reviewed a complimentary copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.**
This was such a fun start to a new series! I ended up reading it in one sitting because it had the perfect mix of found family, romance, humour, and just enough suspense to keep things interesting.
Atticus (Kit) is an absolute delight. After a painful breakup and losing his job, he's trying to rebuild his life while working at a senior care centre. He's awkward, enthusiastic, a little clumsy, and completely lovable. Ray, a former soldier working for RAVEN Securities alongside his army buddies, is the steady, dependable counterpart Kit needs.
Their relationship starts with a disastrous missed first date before fate throws them back together at the care centre. From there, watching them help each other heal was one of my favourite parts of the book. Ray helps Kit rediscover his confidence, while Kit encourages Ray to finally confront the guilt and grief he's been carrying for years.
I loved that the relationship itself was relatively low angst. Most of the drama comes from external sources, which allowed the romance to develop naturally. Their chemistry was fantastic, and I really enjoyed the slow burn as they learned to trust each other.
The real standout for me, though, was the RAVEN team. I am an absolute sucker for found family and band-of-brothers dynamics, and this group has so much potential. We only get glimpses of the other guys here, but it was enough to make me excited for their books.
Overall, this was a sweet, spicy, heartfelt romance with lovable characters and a found family that I'm already invested in.
✨ Found family ✨ Former military heroes ✨ Slow burn ✨ Opposites attract ✨ Workplace connection ✨ Healing from past trauma ✨ Low relationship angst
I can't wait to see the rest of the RAVEN guys find their happily ever afters.
I would like to thank GRR for the opportunity to read and review this ARC.
OMG I loooooved this! Look out Sawyer and Royce, because I think I'm down bad for RAVEN Securities a whole lot more than everything after Zero Hour!
I was squealing for Kit eeeee I loved him so much! He was ADORABLE, a complete klutz, a total magnet for every kind of disaster, his ex was certifiable, and HE NAMED HIS SCOOTER AFTER THE MOST DTF GOLDEN GIRLLLL aiiiiii SCREAMED!
This whole book made me gleeful. It was straight up joy inducing, and I'm honestly beyond happy that Walker brought this level of lovable, quirky, soap opera meets Shady Pines hilarity because it was just a whole lotta fun!
And my goodness Ray was so very very YES! I melted into the floor.
He had experienced a terrible tragedy that had him grieving for years, before he and his found family of ex-military Rangers (whose initials make up RAVEN) got a security gig at Silver Maple, a bougie retirement community, and got caught in the crosshairs of Kit's sexy trouble. Ray tried to fight his feelings, but his body wanted that babe from time, and so when danger came for Kit, Ray was having none of it! Not on his watch!
Ooooooh and the way they burned up the night!! This whole series will be a searing hot, love-filled, life-changing move for the rest of the RAVENs if this first installment is anything to go by!
There were hijinks and catastrophes and danger and scandals and s p i c y spice and I COULD NOT GET ENOUGH OF EVERYTHING THIS WAS!
Girl when can I get more?!?!? Because this hit every sweet spot imaginable and I'm so wild for this vibe! Loved this!
Stand and Deliver was such a strong start to the RAVEN Securities series, balancing grief, healing, humour, and romance in a way that feels genuine without becoming overly heavy.
Rayden and Atticus couldn't be more different on the surface. Ray is guarded, disciplined, and still carrying the weight of a devastating loss, while Atticus is chaos wrapped in charm, trying to rebuild his life after everything falls apart. Their connection starts with unfortunate timing and missed opportunities, but watching them slowly move from friendship to something deeper was incredibly rewarding.
What I loved most was how patient their relationship felt. Atticus never tries to force Ray to move on before he's ready, and Ray gradually learns that opening his heart again doesn't diminish the love he lost. Their chemistry is fantastic, but it's the emotional connection and trust that really make them work.
The supporting cast adds a lot of warmth to the story. The residents at the retirement community were easily some of my favourite characters, bringing humour, heart, and plenty of memorable moments. Atticus's journey toward rebuilding his confidence and independence was equally satisfying to watch.
There’s enough suspense to keep things interesting, particularly when an accident puts everything into perspective for Ray, but this story is ultimately about second chances, healing, and finding the courage to love again. Sweet, emotional, and full of heart, Stand and Deliver is an excellent series opener that left me excited to spend more time with the RAVEN Securities team I received a free arc and this is my honest review
A botched attempt at meeting someone with a hookup app leads closed off grief stricken Rayden James on a sweet journey to enlightenment a month later!
“I’d met a hot guy named Ray on the newest gay hookup app called Randy,”
Atticus (Kit) Livingood 25 gets stood up by his first attempt at hookup apps after a horrific breakup, little does he know that he is in for a chaotic adventure a month later…
It was nice to get to know the other four supporting characters of Raven Security who will each get their own story, each character different from the other but they all have one thing in common- BROTHERHOOD, although it started from TRAUMA which lead to a deep FRIENDSHIP that lead to starting Raven Security together!
I loved how Ray and Kit formed a friendship first to learn to trust each other by having lunch “dates” where food became their love language and eventually forming a deep connection… until Ray was ready to take it further.
“I craved the light Atticus offered me.”
“You breathed new life into me.”
Atticus was chaos incorporated with his quirky personality, gorgeous body and clumsiness that lead to Ray eventually letting down the walls of the fortress enclosing his heart… after his tragic loss..
I loved their banter and flirting that lead to steamy encounters where they couldn’t keep their hands off each other!
The support from Kit’s parents was so cute, especially his mother’s audio books that she listened to…
It seems the playboy Archer is next…
I voluntarily received an ARC from GRR and the author for an honest non biased review.
What a cute story of two men who feel broken inside despite their accomplishments. Raven Securities is Ms. Walker's new series, and it starts off wonderfully.
Atticus is a sweetheart of a klutz. He had to move back with his family when he lost his job due to a dramatic breakup with his cheating ex-boyfriend. I adored the family dynamics and how Atticus's parents had his back. Even though he is receiving tons of support, having to move home feels like he has failed.
Rayden and his partners at Raven Security have a new gig at Silver Maple's retirement community. It is an ultra swanky premier living place for the wealthy. There, he bumps into an adorable, bumbling, newly-hired temporary activity director. Atticus scored this position while the director is on maternity leave.
Ray is really trying to move on with his life after suffering a tragic altering event that occurred three years ago. He chickened out of meeting an interesting guy on a hookup app and soon realizes that the guy he bailed out on is Atticus. Lucky for him, Atticus is willing to take the time to get to know him better. Atticus figures out the gorgeous security man has some serious demons.
I love their dynamics and how hard Ray pretended he could just be friends. There are so many tender and hysterically funny scenes as the men not only learn about each other, but also gain insights into how they view themselves.
It's pretty obvious we are in for a treat with the arrogant playboy Archer, more than likely getting his own story next. Buckle up for the fun, friends. Happy reading.

Thoroughly enjoyed this first book in a new series!
Loved this book and it did a great job laying the foundation for this new series. As is usual with this author we get a great setting that supports the MCs. There’s so much potential in this setting of an upscale retirement village. The decision to make this series about a group of guys instead of a trilogy centered on two main characters is a fun one. The other guys all seem interesting so I am excited to get their stories. While the ending of this book seems to set us up for Archer being next I’m particularly interested in Vaughn’s story for some reason.
This book centers on Ray from RAVEN securities (named after the five founders’ first initials) who have taken over security duties at an upscale retirement community, and Atticus, an computer guy whose aunt helped get him a temporary gig as the Social Activity Director at the same retirement village. They do not get off to a great start as the two originally matched up on a dating app and Ray was a no show. Things are complicated and we find out why during the course of the story. It is relatively low angst and we really get to know the characters. I adored Kit (Atticus’ nickname) immediately. You just want to give him a big mama bear hug! And as we get to know Ray I liked him too and could understand some of his issues and reasons for his actions.
The story is a quick read and I am anxious to read book two. Always the problem with reading a new series!!
This is the first book in the excellent RAVEN Securities series. As with the previous series by this author, it is a well written book that is easy to read. I loved that the name of the business RAVEN is actually the first name initial of all the founding members. I expect wonderfully written relationships by this author and I was not disappointed. This is the story of Rayden James and Atticus Livengood. Rayden's company has just landed it's biggest account to date. They are assuming security duties at an upscale retirement village. He is focused on providing flawless service and does not have time for relationships. Atticus has had some recent upheavals in his work/home/life situation. Through his aunt, he gets a job at the same retirement village. But it is not using his computer skills, it is as the Social Activity Director. Of course, it is only temporary while he gets back on his feet. There is instant friction between them from when they first meet as both were registered on a dating app and matched to each other. Atticus arrived for the date but Rayden never did. This is their story. I received an advanced readers copy of this book from the author and I am voluntarily leaving a review. I really enjoyed this book. It is a sweet low angst story. I enjoyed watching their relationship slowly grow from friendship to something more. The secondary characters make the read even more enjoyable. I look forward to more books about the other owners. I just finished book one and I can't wait for book 2!
Atticus starts his new job as an activity director at a fancy home for older people, feeling down on himself. He caught his ex with their manager and informed the company, ending up in him and his ex losing their jobs. He meets Rayden, the man he had a failed hookup with, who’s the new head of security at the home.
Ray felt bad standing up the hookup, he’s still grieving the death of his boyfriend 3 years earlier. He sees Atticus and they talk, share lunch, and he apologizes. They both feel an attraction, but Kit understands his sadness and they agree to be friends.
Soon they realize that’s too difficult and Ray takes a risk letting Kit in. They start dating and Ray’s buddies are happy for him, as are Atticus’ parents. Atticus finally decided to sell his collectibles so he can start over and get his own place, pay off student loans, etc.
When a building is accidentally set on fire and Atticus is locked in a room, Ray saves him but is terrified he might lose him and tries to avoid him. Atticus doesn’t give up and they agree to fight for each other.
I like Kit, clumsy and cute, trying to become a confident adult, and Ray, strong, wounded, but willing to try again. Ray’s friends are a bit much, and Atticus’ parents are too in a different way. I love the residents of the home and Caitlyn, the manager of the home.
I received this ARC for free and am giving it my honest review in appreciation.
This book is pretty much exactly what the description said it was going to be, and I will always appreciate and author that delivers on their promises. It was a cute romance with some hurt/comfort going on and it really hit the mark on that.
Atticus (Kit) and Ray were both really sweet character that I loved. Ray is recovering from a decistating loss and Kit is just trying to get back on his feet. They meet and their connection is pretty instant. What starts as just physical quickly develops into an emotional connection where Kit feels more comfortable with himself and happier than ever before. Meanwhile, Ray finds someone who is worth letting his wall down for and starts living his life again.
I'm not someone who is going to punish an author for me choosing to read exactly what they said they wrote and I was 85% sure this wasn't going to be a book I loved before I ever started just based on the description.
Because I have never like anything like this before I really tried to go in with now preconceived judgement.
That being said, if this book sounds like something you love based on the description I am almost 100% sure you will.
I might not be adding it to my favorites shelf, but ill definitely be keeping an eye out for book two.
Thank you to the author and Gay Romance Reviews for letting me read an ARC of this story. I am constantly resented books that kind some way to impress me.
Review for (RAVEN Securities-1) Stand And Deliver by Aimee Nicole Walker
I love Aimee Nicole Walker's writing. I can't get enough since I read Locke & Key's series. I fell in love with those men and the side characters. I love that when she writes a series you also get stories of others in the books. This one was no different. I fell in love with Rayden & Atticus. The ups and downs these two men go through in their lives have not only made them into who they are but also brought them to the day they meet each other. Rayden has felt in his past that love is just pain, so why put himself through this pain? Rayden just wants to focus on his business, a private security business. To just not look for love or relationships. He throws himself into building his business into more than that. In doing this, he received a huge account. If he had known what that would bring, he probably would have not taken it. Rayden is a person that wants and craves more out of life. He causes Rayden to want and see things he has never wanted in his life. Will Atticus show him how wrong he has been about relationships or love? Will he be able to get Rayden to open his eyes and see what they could be together if allowed? Nicole Aimee Walker knows how to pull you into the story and not let you lose till you read the last word. Outside world, why, this is so much better lol. I loved this start of this series. I can't wait to read the next one.
I am so excited that Aimee Nicole Walker has a new series for us! And what a fun group of guys she has introduced us to!. From our brooding MC Ray to the hilarious Archer with his "glass skin" (💀) these guys are sure to bring some great laughter and entertainment in future books and I cannot wait. But back to the MCs for THIS book.
Atticus was such a sweetheart and I loved how patient he was with Ray. I don't know if I could have been as patient as him, especially with the mixed signals that Ray was putting out. I know Ray is still dealing with a past trauma, but I kind of wanted to smack him upside the head a few times. I think his besties were right there with me at some points too. Thank goodness for good friends who will tell you when you are mucking things up!
Once Ray worked through his issues, he was all in when it came to Atticus. These two were so sweet together. The whole sharing lunches was just utterly adorable. I could picture the two of them sitting on their bench just enjoying one another's company perfectly in my mind. And the way Ray's chosen family compromising of the men he served and now lives with in a sort of compound accepted Atticus with open arms was amazing. I am so looking forward to the next man to fall prey to love and bring a new man into the fold!
Ray is a man in his 30’s, former military and now co-owns a security business with a few of his best friends. He’s also carrying a lot of emotional baggage after losing the love of his life in an attack in which he survived.
Kit, a 20-something, found out his long-time boyfriend was cheating on him, leading to explosive drama at work…which gets him fired. He quickly lands a new job as an activities director for a wealthy retirement community. Both men decide to hit up a dating app, match with each other, and their little adventure begins after a missed meetup.
While the book hits on some serious topics, the overall vibe was relatively light. The MC’s and SC’s were written very well, all with distinct personalities. I loved Ray’s group of friends that were more like brothers than anything else. Their lighthearted banter was fun, and I loved how they automatically accepted Kit as their own. The elderly folks at the retirement community had me cackling at their antics.
There are some kind of slow places where the story dragged a bit, and some seemingly important things were kind of skipped over. It didn’t affect my view overall, though.
This was such an unexpected feel-good story for me, and I had a great time reading it.
I love chaotic characters! Atticus was such a hazard to himself😅 Poor guy needs to be bubble wrapped to keep him safe.
He also was such a sweet, caring person who was taken advantage of by the one person who was supposed to love him. It not only destroyed his personal life but it also destroyed his self esteem.
Believing he wasn’t enough for anyone was so heartbreaking to read. He was perfect the way he was, he just needed the right man to see it.
Ray knew Atticus was special the moment he saw him walked into that bar. He knew that if he fully met him, his heart would only belong to Atticus and Ray wasn’t ready for that.
He chose to run away instead. But life has a sense of humor and put Atticus in his path giving him the opportunity to make up for his mistake of letting him go.
Ray had lost the man he loved and didn’t think he would ever give his heart to another man again, but it was impossible not to fall for Atticus. Atticus injected new life into Ray’s heart and refused to let go.
They both needed to heal from their past losses(even though in Atticus’s case it was a win), in order to make their relationship work. But Atticus was more than happy to give Ray the time he needed in order to do so.
I really enjoyed this book. It was funny, heartwarming and very sweet. I’m really looking forward to Archer’s book. I need to see Mr. Charmer being brought down a notch 🤭
Chaos collides with control in Aimee Nicole Walker's "Stand and Deliver". A new series, book one focuses on a relationship adverse security expert and an art therapist. There's an almost meet-cute. Kit and Ray click on a dating app, but circumstances prevent the meet. They get a second chance when Ray's security company lands their biggest client, a Senior Center where Kit is an Art Therapist. A strong attraction yet the two try to friend zone their budding relationship. It's a grumpy/sunshine, healing journey story. Often that healing is 'despondent to you're good to go' in 60 seconds with all the work done off page. The author allows us to view Ray's second chance at love, going from a hurt, suspicious man to a whole, loving man. We get to see both Ray and Kit's vulnerability as they transition from friends to lovers. A little angsty. The secondaries bring humor and gentle advice. The senior residents are absolutely adorable. Ray's brothers-in-arms security agency coworkers are introduced as future MC fodder. So, there's nothing new here. It's a standard exmilitary/geek tale, Aimee Nicole Walker's staple offering. It's a sweet, engaging read and ANW is an excellent story weaver. Quick, fun, a nice way to while away the afternoon. I received an advanced copy of this ebook and this is my review.
Atticus (Kit) and Ray have a meet cute via app that doesn’t happen, but their mutual employment at the community for elderly people offers them a second chance at romance face to face. Atticus is working with the residents doing arts and activities, and Ray and his friends are former military, now running a security company. Ray, bless him, has loved and lost, so he is a lot gun shy, and even though he’s attracted to Kit, he just can’t seem to pull the trigger for fear of experiencing loss again. What he can do is friendship, and the real chemistry that develops through their time spent together is wonderful. There are amazing moments with patients and Ray’s friends, and I loved how readers are introduced to characters I’m sure we’ll get to know as the series develops more. Most importantly, I loved how Kit developed and found his footing from the beginning to the end of this one. Readers can see his growth from a stalking victim to a man who feels capable, confident, and like he’s more than earned his place. Events and interactions in the story support that, and I enjoyed how the author showed it happening for readers. These two are terrific together, and I’m looking forward to more in the next titles.
This was my first book by this author and I was really impressed. Ray and Kit are such opposites but perfect for each other. Ray is grumpy, reserved, quiet, scared to love again after loss and overprotective. Kit is wild, sunshine, bubbly, a bit reckless and very sweet. He has a jerk of an ex so he was also scared to love. They both help each other out and build each other up. I loved their lunches together. They had a really sweet relationship with so much spice. They literally could not get enough of each other. I also really liked how Ray didn’t allow Kit to think badly about himself and helped him erase his self doubts. Ray’s friends are so supportive but also hilarious and don’t stop shit talking. I think I like Archer the most. I can’t wait for his book. They push Ray to go after what he wants, they welcome Kit into the group and they help him do a big grand gesture when needed. Kit also has some amazing support in his life. It was hilarious when his mother’s audiobook connected to the car and when his parents walked in on him and Ray. There was so much good humor, a ton of spice, a great plot and a ton of feel good sweetness. I will definitely be reading the rest of the series.
Let me tell you that Atticus grabbed me immediately. I love a clutzy guy, who knows he is clutzy and it just is what it is. Which is why Ray is such a dichotomy for him. Big. Strong. Incredibly abled in just about every way. Someone who should be easily annoyed but Kit's (nickname)...issues. But no, he finds them endearing.
But let's back up a minute. Because at first I didn't like Ray. He stood up poor Kit. But then I found out why and his backstory and I melted.
It was fun when they realized who each of them were. AT WORK. New jobs for both (although Atticus did train for a while) so there was no avoiding each other. And I LOVED that the main setting of their work was a big senior community. I mean BIG. Bringing in seniors who are gossips and nosey and have no filter is just so fun.
Besides all of that, I loved that there wasn't a big plot. There was a plot, obviously, but there was no crime to solve or thing to figure out. Just two guys working, hanging with their friends, getting to know each other and falling in love. What could be better? My heart needed this.
This story starts out with humor as Atticus is trying to get out of the house, he is living with his parents following a hiccup in circumstances, and needs to get his mother's attention. He is going out to meet Ray who thought he was ready for a meet-up and more but it turned out he was not. That does not mean he does not regret letting the opportunity to be with Atticus pass him by but without his number they cannot connect. It was so cool that fate meant for this pair to get together, one way or another. Ray's company is working security for a retirement village and it turns out that Atticus works there. They find out that each was the guy from the missed date in an interesting way. The residents at the retirement village add levity to this story. Since both Ray and Atticus have gone through something that they are recovering from they are in a good place with one another. They are good together and the pace of their relationship develops in a way that makes sense given their histories. This was such a good story as a lead in for this series. I can't wait to read about some of the other guys from RAVEN. I received an ARC from GRR and am voluntarily leaving a review.
This was such a fun, hilarious, heartfelt read. The perfect amount of sweetness and spice. With great characters and an entertaining plot, I was hooked from beginning to end. I love it when not only the MCs are great, but the supporting cast was all super fun and added another level of entertainment to the story.
Kit is a hot mess, a complete ball of lovable chaotic sunshine. He's just so endearing. His parents were adorable and hilarious also.
Ray is this strong, walled up, kinda grumpy stoic tough guy. But under all those layers, he's really a total golden retriever/cinnamon roll of a man.
Kit and Ray were so much fun and so cute together. They really balanced one another so well. Ray truly was the calm to Kit's chaos.
This is one of those MM romances with all the rom-coms vibes that bring a huge smile to your face while pulling at your heartstrings. It was a fantastic start to a new series.
Stand and Deliver is the first book in the new RAVEN Securities series by Walker, and I was pulled in immediately. I would consider this story low angst for the most part, though there are some heavy themes woven throughout. But I thoroughly enjoyed it, rooting for both MCs to get together and find their happily ever after.
This book has everything I enjoy. There’s banter and teasing, heat and sweet, shenanigans and fun. But at it’s heart, it’s about two men who have been through different things, both needing to readjust their mindset to be able to find their happily ever after. For Ray, it takes a lot of bravery and mental work. For Atticus, it really is learning to let go of the negative he’s heard and to start believing the positive. I also really liked that at the end, though they were in a much better place mentally, they both were still putting in the work.
First in series (RAVEN Securities). Age gap. Found family. Slow burn. Dual POV.
Atticus has lost his job, his boyfriend, his apartment, and he just wants a hookup but that ends in a dead end as well, so he’s determined to make the most of his new position in a luxury elder community. Running into his missed hookup at his new job site, security professional Rayden knows Kit has the ability to hurt him, but he barely survived the last time he loved someone so he has to keep Kit at arms length.
Kit and Ray have chemistry right from the start, and their attraction fuels flirtation and the crumbling of Ray’s walls. I appreciated that Kit is sympathetic to Ray’s past and their attempt at friendship very obviously hovers on the edge of dating of which they are both wholly aware. As an introduction to a new series the main characters were sweet, the secondary characters supportive, and it is clear that the rest of the RAVEN Security guys are the planned future MC’s. A cute story and low angst romance.
