About the author

Margit Sandemo was a Norwegian-Swedish historical fantasy author. She has been the best-selling author in the Nordic Countries since the 1980s, when her novel series of 47 books, The Legend of the Ice People, was published. She has also written many other book series such as Häxmästaren and Legenden om Ljusets rike.

W tym tomie uwaga została skupiona na postaci Tovy Brink. Dziewczyna jest jedną z tych najbardziej dotkniętych złym dziedzictwem i miała ona walczyć przeciwko Tengelowi Złemu. Jednak to zło, które w niej siedzi coraz bardziej zbliża ją właśnie, by opowiedzieć się po stronie Tengela.

Ta książka jest nierówna. Można ją podzielić na dwie połowy, które się od siebie kompletnie różnią. Pierwsza połowa związana jest ze statkiem "Stella" oraz jego historią. To było tak przerażająco nudne, że aż człowieka skręca. Druga połowa natomiast jest już nadprzyrodzona i dotyczy reinkarnacji oraz przenoszenia w czasie. Nie zabranie również postaci Nataniela, który będzie mieć ogromny wpływ na losy Tovy. O wiele bardziej przypadła mi do gustu ta druga połowa, bo odkrywa kolejny skrawek z przeszłości rodziny oraz samego Tengela Złego. Pierwszą część książki można było śmiało wyrzucić i nic by ten tom nie stracił.

Dałabym tej książce 2,5 gwiazdki, ale ta historia związana ze statkiem była dla mnie niestrawna i piekielnie nużąca. Także zostawiam dwie, mając nadzieję, że te ostatnie tomy będą już "mięsne".

Połowa taka sobie, ale druga połowa bardzo przyjemna. W końcu poznajemy część przeszłości Tengela Złego. Podobało mi się i to jaką przemianę przychodzi Tova ;)

Helt villt spennede! Så ufattelig mye viktig for handlingen som skjer i denne boka. Siste halvdel hadde meg måpende, klarte ikke legge fra meg boka.

Podobała mi się o wiele bardziej, niż sądziłam. Co prawda pod koniec książki autorka trochę odpłynęła, ale nie pierwszy już raz w tej serii i z tego co mi wiadomo, jeszcze nie ostatni, dlatego nie wpłynęło to na mój odbiór aż tak bardzo. Co ciekawe jednak, w tomie o Tovie było dość mało, jak na mój gust, samej Tovy. Dlatego o ile początkowa sekwencja ze "Stellą" mi się podobała (ba, nawet uważam ją za poniekąd ciekawszą niż drugi wiodący wątek) o tyle chyba jednak wolałabym, gdyby Sandemo bardziej skupiła się na Tovie, bo dziewczyna wydaje się bardzo ciekawa. Jej przemiana z kogoś, kto chce służyć złu w kogoś, kto ostatecznie staje po stronie tych dobrych była może zbyt szybka, za to całkiem zrozumiała, zważywszy na okoliczności. Mam też nadzieję, że w którymś z przyszłych tomów Tova dostanie szczęśliwe zakończenie, tak jak wszyscy członkowie rodu.

The first half of the book was really lame, not worth mentioning. The only thing worth attention was her relationship to the chosen one (Nataniel).

On the other hand the 2nd half of the book was top notch. Really interesting conception on reincernation. Makes me want to look it up if it's actually a thing. We find out more about the history of ice people, during times when Tengel wasn't alive, as well as when he was born and a toddler. It seems like their roots originate from Japan. Which leads to even more interesting historical fantasy . Since it took place before samurais were a thing.

I really wish that I could give this book 5 stars. However I won't do that since 50% of the book sucks. 4 stars seem fair enough.

Újabb érdekes kísértethistória, ahol MS jól érzékelteti Nataniel bizonytalanságát.
Érdekes fordulat a kötet vége felé Tova utazása, majd ahogy Nataniel rátalál. Ez a harc sokkal jobban meg van írva, mint MS-tól megzokhattuk (mondjuk mint Shira útja a barlangban, ami kifejezetten unalmas volt).

Really exciting getting to know more about the ice peoples origin. But I would have preferred having this book split into two because of the shifting scenarios from the ship to Tovas “soul searching”

I was not very impressed by the first story, the one about Stella. That was a common and not very good ghost story set at sea.

But the reincarnation story was better! Engaging and quite creepy! I read this book for the first time many years ago, and that echoing "Da-nou-ra" has been with me for all these years, very scary! It is one thing I do not understand, though, and that I think should have been explained: how can there be BOTH ghosts from the Isfolket (and other people), living on like indviduals after death, with the looks, names and clothes they had in life, AND reincarnation - when the soul does not wander around on earth after death, but continues to a new body and a new human life after every death? If you are going to have both explanations of life after death in the same fictional world, at least you should explain how it comes together!

In this book we also get to know more about Isfolket's roots and beginnings.

Imprisoned by Time
Tova Brink was one of most touched by curse of evil amongst Ice People. Looking at her people turned with disgust and talked 'witch' about her. But she was choosen to take part in a fight with Tengel the Evil. But Tova had her own plans. Her biggest joy was making fun of others. So will it be more natural if she would stand on the side of Tengel the Evil?

Det här var inte den bästa av böckerna i Sagan om Isfolket. Jag tyckte den var lite rörig, för mycket fakta. Någon sa att det behövs för de kommande böckerna. Jag ville bara att boken skulle ta slut så att jag kunde börja på nästa. Nu har jag bara 7 böcker kvar i den här serien. Sedan ska jag ge mig på Häxmästaren. Det ser jag fram emot. Hoppas att nästa bok i den här serien är bättre.

Japan!! WOW! :) It get's more twisted than before :P Still, a really good book, with great plot, ideal flow and very interesting characters. But, I guess it's a standard for Margit Sandemo's saga :)
