I absolutely loved The Spphire Sailor’s Tale! This is a fun read, with a lush fantasy world, great lore, good character building, it’s got it all. The story picks up with Cordelia, on her first Naval deployment, and quickly picks up steam as we are introduced to a fantasy world, and wide cast of characters.
The characters were what made this story for me, Cordelia is a really fun FMC, she speaks like a modern woman, and this is refreshing in a traditional fantasy type world. Her various love interests are also interesting, and it’s nice seeing an FMC work through male based traumas on page, and come out stronger on the other side.
I also loved all of the various side characters (including dragons, looking at you SAPPHIRE!), all of them are well rounded out, and add a lot of fun color to the story. This is an excellent debut, thank you to the author for providing an advance copy in exchange for an honest review.
The characters were what made this story for me, Cordelia is a really fun FMC, she speaks like a modern woman, and this is refreshing in a traditional fantasy type world. Her various love interests are also interesting, and it’s nice seeing an FMC work through male based traumas on page, and come out stronger on the other side.

This was such a richly immersive and emotionally engaging fantasy. From the very beginning, I was swept into the world, the magic, and the high-stakes journey. The story blends romance, fae lore, dragons, elemental powers, curses, fated-mate energy, and intriguing dangerous creatures in a way that feels both expansive and intimate. I especially loved the powerful female presence throughout the story, including a world where queens rule the kingdoms, not kings. Maybe that makes them queendoms?
Cordelia was a compelling heroine to follow. I loved watching her grow, trust herself, and step more fully into her own strength while still holding onto her vulnerability and compassion. The side characters were wonderful as well, adding depth, warmth, tension, and richness to the world around her. The worldbuilding was vivid without ever feeling overwhelming, and the story had such a strong sense of momentum that I kept telling myself, “I need to go to bed,” only to keep reading “just one more chapter” because I genuinely couldn’t put it down.
The relationships throughout the story were charged with tension and emotion, and several twists genuinely surprised me. I was deeply invested in the characters and their choices, which made the emotional moments hit even harder. The stakes felt real, the magic was vivid, and the story kept me eager to know what would happen next.

Something must be in the water this July because every ARC I've picked up has been absolutely phenomenal. **The Sapphire's Sailor's Tale** by Julia Lovely is another ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ read for me, and I loved every single page.
From the very beginning, I was completely captivated by the characters, the immersive world-building, and the unique magic system. Our FMC, **Cordelia**, serves aboard a navy ship and is determined to prove herself in a profession where she constantly has to work twice as hard to earn the respect she deserves. During a routine swimming exercise, she's pulled beneath the ocean's surface and transported to the magical world of **Anathera**.
Anathera is a breathtaking land filled with magic and fae, divided into four regions based on elemental powers—earth, water, air, and fire. As an *Avatar: The Last Airbender* fan (my favorite show of all time), this immediately gave me those elemental magic vibes, and I was obsessed. The world feels vibrant, dangerous, and full of mystery.
With Anathera cursed and on the brink of destruction, Cordelia finds herself unexpectedly caught in an ancient prophecy. Watching her grow from an ordinary sailor into someone incredibly powerful was such a rewarding journey. Along the way, she builds an unforgettable found family that had me smiling, laughing, and cheering them on every step of the way.
And the romance? Absolute perfection. ❤️ I'm keeping the MMC a mystery because discovering him is part of the magic, but trust me... you're going to understand the hype.

I was blessed to receive an E Arc of this book. The Sapphire Sailor’s Tale by Julia Lovely is an immersive, high-stakes journey that masterfully blends the dedication of military life with the boundless wonder of a fantasy realm.
The story follows a dedicated female naval officer who is suddenly thrust into an entirely new world. What follows is a gripping adventure defined by discovery, loyalty, and the kind of deep, emotional bonds that can only be forged in the fires of adversity. Lovely shines when writing about found family; watching our protagonist navigate the complexities of her new environment while finding unconditional support in her companions was truly the heartbeat of the book.
The world-building is expansive, and the pacing keeps the reader engaged through every battle and strategic challenge. As someone who loves a good Romantasy, I was completely swept up in the narrative arc and the high stakes the characters face.
If there is one thing I found myself wishing for, it is simply more. The world Lovely has created is so vibrant that I was left wanting to linger in it longer. I would have loved to see even deeper exploration of the characters’ internal journeys and perhaps a bit more breathing room for some of the pivotal relationship moments, which felt like they were rushed just as they were getting started. It is a testament to the author’s ability to draw you in that my only real "critique" is that I wasn’t ready for the story to end.
Ultimately, The Sapphire Sailor’s Tale is a captivating read that leaves a lasting impression. I am already hoping for spinoffs—there is so much untapped potential within this cast of characters and the lore of this new realm that I would eagerly pick up any future stories set in this universe.

Cordelia is a U.S. Navy sailor on her first deployment when something definitely outside of her job description happens; while passing through the Bermuda Triangle she is transported to a Fae realm and is told that there is no way for her the return to Earth. Forced to accept her new reality, she tries to learn everything that she can and work with the people around her to help end the curse that is harming the people and magic of this world.
I really enjoyed this book. I am always a sucker for the found family trope and this one did it really well. The more I read the more I find that a lot of books follow a copy and paste kind of storyline, that was not the case here. It had similar elements to stories I've read before but was able to combine them in a unique way. There were a couple of twists and plot points that happened that even surprised me and that is always a treat.
Here is why it is not a five star read for me, others might disagree but these are mine. I felt that the dialogue was a little cheesy. Cordelia doesn't want to be underestimated and is always trying to have a witty or sarcastic comeback or say something in a way that proves her strength. She is a badass, don't get me wrong, but some of that felt a little forced. The ending wrapped things up too quickly. This easily could have been a duology or trilogy and I thought that it was heading in that direction but then it just ended. Some of the explanations were rushed and certain things needed to be expanded more.
I had a good time with this book and wanted more of it! If the author decided to write more books in this universe I would definitely read them and will look forward to any other books she releases even if they're not.

❤️ World Building: The world building really made this book, it is detailed, lush and imaginative, without overwhelming the reader. How the magic system evolved was also unique and well written.
❤️ The Characters: Cordelia was an amazing MFC! She was smart, without being a “know it all”. She knew when to speak the truth, when to listen, and when to stand up for something or someone. Silas was the perfect MMC, he gave Cordelia space, pushed her when she needed a push, & was always there for her. The friendship between Brigid and Cordelia was beautiful, I loved how they always had each other's backs.
❤️ The Story: The story was fantastic! It kept me engaged through the whole thing, I looked forward to going back to read it after work each day! It was moving and light hearted.
❤️🔥Overall: I would highly recommend this story to anyone! Though I did find the ending seemed a little rushed, it was still a very satisfying ending.

This was a fun, fairly lighthearted romp and that reminded me of some of the early romantasy books that I read a decade ago. The world building isn't too complicated, and the themes were interesting but not too dark.
Cordelia starts her adventure as a sailor on a US Navy ship that is approaching the Bermuda Triangle- things start to get weird and suddenly she is pulled underwater and into a fairy realm that exists alongside our world. I really loved this section- you can tell that Lovely has military experience and the writing her felt especially authentic.
Once in the fairy realm, Cordelia is thrust into a complicated political terrain and world, and things start to happen fast (almost too fast- the scenes shift quickly!). She finds out that she is a fairly pivotal part of this new world, and everyone wants to be a part of her story.
I loved the female friendships in this book- both before her time in Anathera and in Anathera, she finds some badass women to befriend and I always love that in a story. There are also three (!) MMC's that are in play, which was a little hard for me since I didn't know how to invest in- the ultimate MMC is a real cinnamon roll, though, and I love him.
I'm very impressed with this debut and will absolutely continue to follow Julia's writing career, and will TRY to wait patiently for book 2 <3

The Sapphire Sailor’s Tale is a fast paced standalone fantasy with fae, dragons, monsters, goddesses, mates, curses, and multiple plot twists. There were moments that gave me vibes from other popular fantasy books, such as ACOTAR, Quicksilver, and Fourth Wing.
Cordelia is fun and fiery, with quick come backs and a pithy inner monologue. Her journey is filled with life-changing revelations, love, loss, and ultimately a happy ending.
I really enjoyed the goddess lore that drove this story forward, and the authors writing style. The story was very easy to follow and visualize, and the dialogue was engaging.
I connect better with stories that have a slower pace and a slow burn, so I would personally would have loved to see this story spread out between two books to allow for more character development and emotional impact. I would recommend this book to those who like a fast paced fantasy read that can easily be consumed in a few days, and those who like a straight forward plot approach. This story also leaves plenty of potential for side character focused books set in the same world, which I would love to see!

The Sapphire Sailor’s Tale was a really fun cozy read! I loved the FMC Cordelia. I was invested in her journey throughout the book, and I really liked her confidence and sass. I always felt like I could identify with her decisions and I was rooting for her success.
The world building was a lot of fun! I haven’t read a ton of portal romantasy, but I’ve liked every one I’ve read and this one was no exception. I liked following a modern woman from earth navigating a fantasy world, and I also really enjoyed the peek into navy life at the beginning. Anathera was an interesting kingdom and the element based magic was cool. I liked that each of the provinces had cultures built around their unique brand of magic. The dragons were adorable and I want a Sapphire.
The romance was enjoyable and just the perfect level of spicy. I loved seeing such a supportive and caring MMC. He is a total sweetheart, and the scene with their dance was incredibly romantic 🥰
All in all, the book was a great read and left me with a big smile on my face. Definitely give it a go if you’re looking for a wonderful romantasy that will give you all the warm fuzzies.

I wish I could give partial stars, because for me this book would be a solid 3.5/3.75 if I could rate it as such. The premise was really interesting, and I thought it was fascinating that the book started in our world before transcending to a magical realm. Very unique in romantasy these days! I also liked the elemental magic systems.
The areas that the book didn’t quite hit for me were mostly the story and character development. The book is less than 400 pages and it just felt very rushed to me. Things got explained away too quickly, or relationships developed seemingly instantaneously instead of true character development and relationship building.
That said, I would absolutely read another book by this author and hope that future stories would be a little longer to allow for some more story development. That would have made the book more believable. Overall recommend for folks looking for a quick and easy romantasy, as long as you’re not looking for anything too deep!

I truly enjoyed reading this book!!! Such a good time!
The Sapphire Sailor’s Tale is such a rich and immersive fantasy!! We’ve got elemental powers, perilous monsters, DRAGONS (which is my absolute favvvvv), adventure, POWERFUL WOMEN (yassss queens!!) and so much more!
I like that we started off in a regular world and she’s serving on a navy ship. Then after a navy exercise, she gets dragged into another realm: Anathera a beautiful, magical place that lowkey gave me Avatar the Last Airbender vibes!!!! Full and lush world building…I couldn’t put the book down!!!
The found family and connections of characters Julia writes is what really hooked me in! I love our FMC Cordelia and her wittiness and watching her character develop, find herself and her strength. And our MMC Silas!? What a guy…!!!!! No notes he’s fantastic and the relationship they build was soooo good! The romance! Top tier, feet giggling good time!

As a former service member, I especially appreciated the representation of a female Navy member with the main character Cordelia. It’s not something I come across often in novels, especially fantasy, so seeing that aspect woven into the story was a welcome surprise.
The book blends familiar fantasy elements (fairies, dragons, and power struggles) with unique concepts such as magical portals opened by amulets and an original history surrounding the fae and their abilities. The world-building felt fresh while still delivering the fantasy tropes readers enjoy. There was just the right level of romance and spice to my personal liking that I didn’t think it distracted from the story but added a level of intimacy which can be challenging.
The story was engaging throughout, and Cordelia was both relatable and empowering. The ending left me eager to see what happens next, making this a promising start to what feels like an exciting series.

The book blends familiar fantasy elements (fairies, dragons, and power struggles) with unique concepts such as magical portals opened by amulets and an original history surrounding the fae and their abilities. The world-building felt fresh while still delivering the fantasy tropes readers enjoy. There was just the right level of romance and spice to my personal liking that I didn’t think it distracted from the story but added a level of intimacy which can be challenging.
The story was engaging throughout, and Cordelia was both relatable and empowering. The ending left me eager to see what happens next, making this a promising start to what feels like an exciting series.

What did this book do to me?!?!?! I always say Current Adventure and an adventure I was taken on.
Nothing is what it seems and the amount of "w+f is happening?" Along with "ummm, I didn't see that coming!" AND the ROMCOM vibe I experienced while reading this devut novel has me feeling a bit sad that I finished it.
Cordelia is spunky, sassy and absolutely amazing in my eyes. This book follows her POV throughout the entirety of the book and I love being in her head.
Along with the comedy, angst, heat of spice (it's the cocky and sassy attitudes that got me). There is elemental magic, fae realms, military background that I could relate to, relationships so real that I can name who in my life would fit which character, twists that had me gasping and moments that had me swooning.
I don't want to leave this adventure just yet. ✨️📚✨️

It started off completely differently to the books I usually read, aboard a navy warship! I loved learning more about the world that so many incredible people live in. The plot progressed into fantasy pretty quickly though, and was so complex and rich. There is a lot of unique world building setting up for the potential for more stories, whilst not overpowering the plot or characters.
At times the story felt a little too fast, and I wanted more from certain scenes, but the characters were amazing and the world was very detailed.
Overall I greatly enjoyed this, and look forward to any future works from the author.

I love the premise of this book! What a fun twist on a romantasy. And we can’t forget the treachery that is the Bermuda Triangle! I enjoy how the novel opens with a realistic setting and "everyday" life before totally plummeting into a fantasy realm. We are exposed to a variety of new characters who propel the conflict forward at a steady pace. My only complaint is how quickly the FMC acclimated to her new fantasy reality; that felt a bit convenient, and I would have liked a little more development there. But overall, millennials will love and appreciate this book!

I had been looking forward to reading this book for months! And I was not disappointed. The unique background of the FMC made the beginning of this story even more compelling. I think the author did a great job of building this world in a way that was enough to finish this story within one book, and left enough out to intrigue the reader into hoping for future adventures with these characters!
Overall I think this book is a five star debut novel!!

This was a solid debut novel. It was a fun adventure story with fated mates, dragons and elemental magic. Silas, the MMC, is a golden retriever and so sweet. Cordelia, the FMC, is strong, fierce and takes as well as she can give because she's a Naval officer. I really enjoyed her wit and snark. I enjoyed the found family in this as well as the relatively quick pace. The world is interesting being broken into four distinct regions with specific magic in each. It was a fun, cozy adventurous portal fantasy amd I enjoyed it.

This was an incredibly unique read that I breezed through! If you like a character driven story with well thought out world building then this book is for you! The magic, dragons and portals to other realms add just the right wow factor to the story. And the fact that the Fae realm is run by Queens is a breath of fresh air! A strong FMC and a quality cast of side characters keeps this story moving.

This debut novel by Julia Lovely made me laugh, cry and fall in love. The relationship development between the characters and their influence on Cordelia's growth has you rooting for her from start to finish. I must admit Bridgid is my favorite character and I cant wait to hear more from her in future books from Julia.

It seemed to provide far more explanation than necessary, and it felt rather leading. She’s on a navy warship, gets sucked into the depths, wakes up in an unfamiliar Fae realm, and seems to accept it all with ease? I don’t know; this book simply didn’t resonate with me.

For a debut novel, this was a great story. Very unique and it was interesting how it was a very modernized telling of a fae fantasy adventure with the use technology, a modern military foundation and current verbiage in the dialogue. It is fast paced and keeps you on your toes!

I really, really enjoyed this book! We are thrown into Cordelia's crazy life aboard a naval boat at sea... things are going as expected until the boat crosses over into the Bermuda Triangle and thats when things start getting strange and she is pulled into another fantastical realm! I was really surprised at this imagery, pacing, and word building in this novel as I know it's a debut novel but they all exceeded my expectations! I fell in love with the realm of Anathera and the characters we come to meet. The author does an amazing job of building a strong connection between our FMC and the people she meets in this fantasy world... the found family trope definitely was present. This novel had a few twists and turns I wasn't expecting but I was on the edge of my seat the entire time wanting to know what was going to happen next and how it would all turn out. I love that all of the side characters we come to love are set up for potential novels of their own... because I'm going to NEED their stories now after this one. I especially loved our FMC and her chemistry with the MMC.. the tension was incredible and the spice was perfectly placed and just what was needed. I am so excited to read future books from this author and look forward to more books in this series!!
