In the matter of a week Selene Warren will either have everything she has ever wanted or lose it all. Married to the man she loves with a child on the way, life should be going as planned. But as the election and her due date draw near, a dark witch rises up and threatens Selene’s happiness.
The evil spirit possessing Jessica has made its move against them. Coming after Selene in public way, they can no longer keep the past hidden from the fae even if it means losing the election. Riddled with doubt and flagging strength, she will have to depend on her friends to defeat the witch—or not only will she lose her life, but her child as well.
Many authors claim to have known their calling from a young age. Liz Schulte, however, didn't always want to be an author. In fact, she had no clue. Liz wanted to be a veterinarian, then she wanted to be a lawyer, then she wanted to be a criminal profiler. In a valiant effort to keep from becoming Walter Mitty, Liz put pen to paper and began writing her first novel. It was at that moment she realized this is what she was meant to do. As a scribe she could be all of those things and so much more.
When Liz isn't writing or on social networks she is inflicting movie quotes and trivia on people, reading, traveling, and hanging out with friends and family. Liz is a Midwest girl through and through, though she would be perfectly happy never having to shovel her driveway again. She has a love for all things spooky, supernatural, and snarky. Her favorite authors range from Edgar Allen Poe to Joseph Heller to Jane Austen to Jim Butcher and everything in between.
I enjoy the world Schulte has created with these light, fun stories. But she struggles with word choices (e.g. confusing "infer" with "imply"), verb tenses, and punctuation (comma splices). She also needs readers to point out pacing issues, character development needs, and where she needs to clarify the translation of the story from her head to the page (minor inconsistencies). It's a bummer that the kindle app won't let me add a book to Goodreads without writing a review.
Don't not let the titles fool you, this isn't a light hearted series. It's full of action, suspense, romance and heart ache. The previous books were outstanding and the finale even more so. Selene is almost due but they still have an enemy out there and Selene is getting weaker everyday. You get multiple points of view and you will enjoy every word!
Several questions - Who did the long golden hair that Sebastian found on Tahlik's clothing belong to? My best guess would be Lorelei but I didn't realize she was familiar with Tahlik's blackmail. Did Sy fill her in and Lorelei wanted revenge since Selene was like a daughter to her? It would have been nice if that clue had been followed up. (Does Lily have long blond hair? She might assassinate Cheney's rivals) Was Kalan really responsible for Phoebe's death? Sy claimed he was bluffing when he accused him. What happened to Monique? Was she kept incarcerated in the cell even though she had lost her magic to Katrina? I know Corbin was under a spell but it seemed more like he was possessed by the spirit inhabiting Jessica since she was aware of all of his movements. How was the spirit aware of what was going on in two places at once? Why did the black magic seized from Jessica not affect Katrina, Leslie and Frost? Katrina had felt stronger after she had taken Monique's magic. I assume Monique's was also black magic so again, why wasn't Katrina influenced when she appropriated it?*** Is Olivia an angel of death? Selene is constantly stressed out by events, yet doesn't seem to use yoga to calm herself. This seems unlikely if you refer to the first book where she taught yoga classes and owned a yoga studio. Last but not least, who the hell is Jack? I don't recall him from earlier volumes. It seems like he and Katrina have a past of some sort.
Other than all of the above, a pretty good read.
***After pondering a conversation between the characters, I think they believe that magic is benign so the wielder determines whether its good or evil, amIright?
At first the constant switching between narrators was frustrating, but it was necessary. I did like having a view into others thoughts and am so ready for Kat and Sebastian's story
Loved this Series and was sad to see it end but happy with how it ended. I really want to visit the Abyss! I loved all the characters in this series and am looking forward to revisiting them in Katrina's story and Femi's story and hope to see Selene, Chaney, Sebastian and Sy pop in when we next visit the Abyss. This is a must Read!
Seriously Liz there's just not enough stars for this series. I cannot get enough!!! When is the next book out?????? There has to be more. By the way, who the heck is Jack where did he come from? OK I need more. Hurry Liz I need more!
Wow wow wow! This book took me on a ride. It answered a lot of my questions from the previous books. Not to mention the Coven is growing so that gives me hope for a lot more books. This book had lots of action & suspense but as still fun to read and not a serious drama type book. Loved it!!!
