Bestselling author Lea Hart writes sexy, feel-good romances. She loves a sharp quip, an icy gin and tonic, and a long walk when the muse disappears. When she’s not writing, she spends time with her family and friends and attempts to stay on top of her TBR pile.
Good one, #4 in the Coronado Series. Rachel Miller works in the office at ASI/SAI. Chris is one of the former SEAL's there and he has a "kindergarten crush" on Rachel (his words). He doesn't think that she would ever give a man like him the time of day. It turns out that the crush is mutual but Rachel is hiding a secret. She is trying to escape a man she had dated briefly who won't give her up. Chris finds her in the office trying to get away from Dean and runs up. He gets the guy to walk away by telling him he is Rachel's boyfriend. He makes the guy walk away but it makes Rachel uneasy.
The best part of this section of the story is the way Chris can't seem to say the right thing to Rachel; it's quite funny. She begins to trust him, however, and when the harassment becomes more and more dangerous, ending with a horrifying event, Rachel trusts Chris, almost to the end.
Actually, this story is pretty riveting and Hart does a good job with the suspense. I was waiting most of the book for the other shoe to drop, and when it did, it was scary. It takes time for Chris and Rachel to find their HEA. Another good part is where Birdie and Rory are reviewing their matchmaking efforts, a continuing theme. I like this, too, as well as the promise of a few more stories to come.

I am not sure but ... Ok here goes, I try so hard to see the good in every book I read, but, this book , even though I liked the story, I just had a hard time getting through it. A really hard time. The editing was horrible. It just was. The characters, (and I really tried), had stilted conversation, it was odd for me. I wanted to quit reading. The story had the potential to be a fabulous book, but , and I'm not an author, it just epically failed, and I can't give this book anymore than two stars. This doesn't mean that I'm not gonna give this author another try with book two. My daughter and daughter-in-law are both published authors and , so I know firsts might not be up to snuff. But I want characters who I can get invested in, Birdie, I found I wanted to smack , I began to finally like her at end of book so Ms. Hart, I hope book two, shows you to be an author I can't wait to read.
My late husband was career military & a large part of my family was military or law enforcement. I felt Lea Hart described their mine set well. They are never your 9:00 to 5:00 people due to their training and services. I hope she has many more books in store for us. My only compliant was an over abundance of romance. I am not a overly romantic person. . .
First of the Coronado series about active and retired SEALs centered around Coronado Naval Base and San Diego. Birdie is a CPA, who is also a florist by virtue of a bequest from her grandmother. She has developed friendships with most of the members of a team of which her cousin is a member, but hasn't encountered any of the officers. Until she meets Mark at a pre-wedding run-through. Mark is known for not dating or having relationships and is stunned when he shakes her hand - and can't let go. Birdie thinks he is the ideal candidate for her latest plan - a no-strings-attached sex fling. It's a real role reversal when Mark begins to think long-term.
Convincing Birdie of it is a long-time job, but he manages to do it. Hart also introduces the risk that servicemen in elite squads face and Birdie has to learn how to face it, too. Good one and Hart evidently has a long series planned; I look forward to all of them.
WOW!!! That Mark guy can be my idea man in my fantasies. Gee I can feel the fire radiating from this book. Birdie is a strong, confident, and endearing heroine. I could not get enough of her hilarious stubborn attitude. She makes women seem a little crazy. This is definitely a book to read.
As much as I love the whole "alpha male" and Navy Seal genres that are all the rage right now, I appreciate having a series that not only fits these categories, but where the hero falls in love just as much as the heroine, and where they treat one another well and with respect. This is a sweet, enjoyable read.
I so loved this book. Birdie is hoot. Her and Mark together are scorching hot and beautiful. Right from the beginning to the end you feel their love and connection. Everyone else in the book also. Loved it front to back.
I really enjoyed this book. I love alpha military men and this did not disappoint. I also loved the romance part love at first sight for Mark and Birdie. Can't wait to read book 2 hopefully they will be in that book also. Gonna be a great series.
This book dragged for me. It just went on and on and on. I know others will love it, but to be honest I couldn't just sit and stick with it. I ended up listening to the book while doing laundry/dishes/driving just so I could get to the end.
The story between Rachael and Chris is the best yet. The way the story built into an intense climax was stupendous. The love and trust between Rachael and Chris was inspirational. Ms. Hart has given me insite into many issues, such as PTSD, domestic abuse, children with Downes Syndrome and the need to show respect and love for our military. Thanks for some awesome reading time.
Now, I understand why I felt like this was a 1 star for me. It wasn't that I hated it... but it wasn't an 'OK' for me. It was just... meh. Chris was just an odd character... almost robotic. I really couldn't warm to him. And Rachel? Sighs. TSTL. Am sad cos I liked the others in the series...
I read this book thinking I wouldn't like it. I did. I love the banter and sarcasm and can appreciate the levity it brings when both partake. I'm like that and sadly my spouse isn't so I laughed when it happened and appreciated it for what it is. Some editorial work is needed but I've read far far worse. Just caution author and reader alike. I wish it was in audio but if planning to do so....please, Lea, have a man narrate. A woman trying to read a 'tough alpha' role makes him sound like a teenager. Takes the fantasy right out of the mind's eye.
This had to be the most romantic story I have ever read. The way the love between Mark and Birdie developed was beautiful. I adored the way Mark kept moving Birdie toward their final destination of eternal love. The love of an honorable man and his perfect match was wonderful. This will be one of the books I read again and again to capture that true romantic feeling.
Had a hard time reading this one. I truly tried to give it a chance but the flow was choppey, it was almost written like a step by step manual. Some things even flowed out of order. She was too intent on finding a one night stand even though he was wanting a relationship with her....I just couldn't finish it. I tried.
Birdie and Mark's story was very cute you watch a stubborn girl fall had for a alpha male, she initially wants a small fling but he gives her more than she bargains for......true love I enjoyed this book now I'm on to the next book in this series! Happy Reading!!!
Great story but reads like a real rough first draft
The concept of this story is good but the imagery, speech and general dialogue between the characters is disjointed, and slightly adolescent at times. It could use a lot of editing but is a warm story with a happy ending. A good read if your not easily annoyed by unpolished writing.
What a great start to a series. We’re introduced to Byrdie and Mark and some of the Seals in his unit. This is a true love story with drama and love throughout. Hot Alpha males are abound and sassy women. I can tell this is gonna be a great series and I can’t wait for the guys to meet their girls. Great book highly recommended it.
I don't mind alpha male books with strong women. What was missing here was the adventure component. It was interesting when Mark went on an op, but then he was injured, and that wasn't good.
He isn't anything Birdie can't handle, I like her character especially. I also like her family and friends, especially Ana, her shy cousin.
I love this writer's style. I have enjoyed the Coronado Series and this book so much I have read it multiple times. If Lea Hart writes a book, I read it.
This book pulled me in from the beginning. I enjoyed the interaction between characters and found myself laughing out loud multiple times. A great read and a book I will keep to read again and again.
It started off really good but then it was like they kept repeating over and over. She got serious injury then he get seriously injured then it ended. Needed to be more developed. I hope next one is better.
I have been looking for a new SEAL series to dive into and I do believe this is it. Really enjoyed the beginning of this story arch and fell in love with the potential of this cast of characters. The dialogue in the story was a little choppy in spots but overall this was an AWESOME read :)
Chris and Rachel's love story is heartwarming. The men in the Coronado Series fall hard and fast for the women they love, and after admiring Rachel for a year, an event pushes him to become involved with her quickly. This was my favorite love story out of the four in the series.
Although this was the first book in the series, I actually read the books out of order. Birdie and Mark's story was not my favorite out of the series but I was hooked but then and had to read it. I can recommend the whole Coronado Series.
This book is so over the top unrealistic. I'm sorry but the male main character is suppose to be a big alpha man seal and he whines the whole first half of the book. She doesn't understand, she doesn't need him like he needs her... blah blah blah
I would like this story to keep going on and on, I want to know if the rest of the characters continue finding their love of their life.I would like to recommend this to my friends who Is having hard time finding their inspiration in life.
New author for me but already hooked and downloaded the rest of this series then will get the next. A story you know could happen and characters you can believe in what more could you want? Oh happily ever after.
