I enjoyed this charactar study of Dark Lord Vader and his hunt in bringing Padmé Amidala back from the dead and searching for the secrets of life. (as instructed by Emperor Palpatine)
It also features Royal Guard Colonel Halland Goth, who has his own trouble with life and death expectancy. Also features CC-1119 a.k.a. Clone Commander Appo.
"Timeline Placement Era: Fall of the Jedi / Reign of the Empire Year: 19 BBY (Same year as the formation of the Galactic Empire)
Specific Connection: The novel fits into Charles Soule’s Star Wars: Darth Vader (2017) comic run, taking place during a narrative gap between issues #5 and #6 (specifically between pages 4 and 5 of issue #6)."

I absolutely enjoyed this book. Incredibly sucked in towards the end, and myself taking more than one deep breath with a proverbial hand over the heart. Absolutely beautiful when I least expected it.
Sometimes you don't know what you're going to get with a dark side/empire-focused novel, but the author achieved a brilliant balance.
My scoring system:
- 5 stars: I will tell others about the book whether they want to hear it or not:
- 4 stars: Fantastic read, and I wouldn't hesitate to read the book again.
- 3 stars: Enjoyed the book throughly, but once is good for me.
- 2 stars: I probably wasted my time reading the book and wouldn't ever read it again.
- 1 star: If I've given this rating, then please perform an intervention.
