This is not what I was expecting it to be. I was thinking this was going to give insight into British society during WW1. Instead it went into great detail on the airplane and airship attacks and the surveillance system put into place to look for attacks. The organization of the book was confusing and just when you thought you were moving on to a new subject, it would go back to airship attacks again. There was little to nothing on workforce and labor issues or the conflict with Ireland during the war. The book should be renamed to better reflect the limited scope of the subject matter.

This is a slim volume, but it provides a great overview of life on the British home front during World War I. While it talks about civilian life during the war, it is more about the British mindset as they transitioned from isolation into war.
