A Heart of Stone

If you’re looking for a book (a series, actually) that will break your heart in the best way possible, this is it.
Before opening K. Wright’s debut novel, Heart of Ice, romantasy was a foreign genre to me (I know, took me long enough, but I got here eventually). So, of course, as soon as my copy of Heart of Stone was available on my Kindle, I dove right in. I think I chose the best book to pop my romantasy cherry, because thanks to K. Wright's words, I promptly fell in love with the genre.
And how could I not?! It was impossible not to get sucked into a world so perfectly built, where Fae and humans coexist in (relative) peace, and into the story of a Chosen One who (still) doesn’t want to be chosen, a dynamic trio of friends who are everything but platonic, and a country where an authoritative government insists on using everyday tech to keep its constituents in check (this one hits a little too close to home, ngl).
Wright’s characters are so easy to love and root for — sadly, even the ones that broke my (I mean, the FMC’s) heart in the previous book — but believe me, when it came to him, I tried keeping my heart as icy as that of a human with a broken mate bond. I will forever be a Summer + Koda girly, and getting more of their absolute devotion to each other in this book was exactly what my little hopeless romantic needed. It wasn’t just them, though; I couldn’t get enough of Aaron (however creepy he may be at times, he’s a hot, well-intended creep), Bertha, Roy, Henry, Kyria, Jackie, and yes, much to my chagrin… Even Dune. I can hold a grudge, both IRL and with male characters who break my (I mean, the FMC’s) heart, but Wright’s writing made it impossible for me to despise him entirely. I could feel their fear, their pleasure, their heartbreak, their joy… 347 pages were not enough.
My favorite kind of book is the kind that offers the reader an escape from the chaos around us outside of its pages, while simultaneously preparing us and giving us tools to better deal with it. K. Wright masterfully achieves just that (I’ve since turned off my Uber Eats notifications and switched location permissions off on most of my “running in the background” apps. Thank you, Summer!).
If you’re looking for a spicy romance with complex characters, love (and power) dynamics that will make you question the way you interact with tech in your daily life (but also leave you crying, begging for more of the lore), make you add this book to your TBR list.

I actually had the privilege of reading book two in this series as an ARC.
First of all, I loved book one.
The series follows Summer and her two best friends from College. There is surveillance, yearning, heartbreak, thought provoking parts around the use of technology in society and a really good story!
Oh and there’s powers ofc! 🔥
You’re in for a ride, and the cliffhanger in the end of this book is so frustrating. It’s so good, and the writing is great.

YEEESSS!!! Give me more of Summer and Koda!! Even more Dune is growing on me!! Higher stakes! More twists and turns!! The politics, the drama, the secrets, the courting, the sexy bits too!! I just can’t get enough of these guys!!!
