Linor Oren has created a vocal coaching system unlike any I have experienced before. I have extensive experience in chorus, jazz, musical theater, and private singing lessons. I still struggle, even as I identify as a singer, to put myself in front of the world as a vocalist. No other vocal coach has ever had an answer for this for me. Everyone else always said, "you just have to get over your fear!" Linor validates real human experiences and actually breaks down what she has named your ‘stick in the wheel’ instead of just telling you to get over it. The physical, mental, and spiritual things that block you from being able to sing, she teaches you how to dismantle old habits and beliefs and build new skills to become the singer that you're able to be. The book itself is well organized and written in a warm, witty tone. She's a true professional with a beautiful personality and voice, and she wants to teach you how to use yours and know that it's beautiful too. I've always dreamt of music being a part of my life every day in a substantial way, and I never thought I would ever get to be ‘that person’. By reading Sing Anyway, Linor is teaching me that I've been that person all along, and that any person who feels joy for singing deserves to feel that joy every day.

I never would have thought a book about learning how to sing could be so engaging, and funny.

This is a self-help book of sorts (in the best sense of the word). Its effects go beyond vocal technique. You feel as if Linor is in the room with you, neutralizing the bogeyman that keeps you second-guessing yourself. Or, as she calls it, The Nasty Monkey. Replace this nasty monkey with a mantra monkey and half of the battle is won.

The author makes a compelling case that a lot of the physical obstacles that block our voices have a psychological origin. Indeed, what we perceive as a mental issue, translates into physcial tension. Removing that gets us a long way. I tried a few simple experiments she proposed to kill the hesitation right before you sing and, indeed, my voice came out differently.

And again: it's a fun read. Witty prose, and overall, just deeply human. Highly recommended.

What I liked most is how practical and encouraging the book is. The exercises are simple, the explanations are clear, and you can actually use it to shape your own practice depending on what you want to improve. I was honestly surprised by how well that worked.

I also really appreciated the focus on confidence and the psychological side of singing, which many teachers tend to overlook.

The personal anecdotes made the book even more engaging and helped explain the ideas in a very relatable way.

A genuinely motivating and enjoyable read for anyone who loves singing and wants to improve.

This book is exactly what I needed. My favorite thing about it is how it starts of with trading is how to have confidence in signing, and I had no idea how helpful that was going to be. When I was younger, I had a situation when a person told me that I wouldn't get good at singing, and this book helps a lot with that. I love how this book addresses that and helps us get over the mental "sticks" in our wheel to realize how much potential we really have. This book is not at all like other singing books.
