A Reps Tale: Author of 'A Tent in France'

Rate this book
Albert Rep, now retired to Portugal takes us on a jaunt around the farms of North Yorkshire as he desperately tries to sell animal feed to farmers. This is a tale about farmers and the feed business. Boss Hogg stars in this tale and the following excerpt is Alberts first meeting with this 'gentleman'.
A large figure clad in a boiler suit loomed out of the dusk, ‘now then what do you want?’ a broad Yorkshire accent inquired. This guy was massive and although it was freezing both his shirt and boiler suit were undone down to his navel. ‘Oh hi, my name is Albert and I sell feed so I have just come in to introduce myself’, hopefully this would start a conversation rolling. The very large chap just stared thoughtfully towards me as he took a deep drag on a cigarette. Never very good at maintaining a silence I babbled away ‘I have a feed store at Darlingtons timber yard, you know where I mean?’ If this guy was an undertaker I should say that he was measuring me up for a coffin, the silence continued, perhaps he was a mute?
