Wrong Number, Right Grumpy Mountain Man: A BWWM, Grumpy Sunshine, Small Town Romance

Rate this book
I texted the wrong number trying to save my best friend's golden retriever, and a stranger in the Kootenay Rockies told me to stop panicking and breathe.

That's how it started.

His name is Holden. He's a wildlife vet who lives twenty minutes outside a town called Crimson Hollow, which I've never heard of and now can't stop looking up. His texts are short. Surly. Occasionally so blunt I have to read them twice to make sure I didn't imagine the rudeness. And somehow, six weeks in, he's the first person I tell when my mother calls me a disappointment for the fourth time this month.

He's also the only person who texts me back without trying to fix me.

I'm Mara. I make candles for a living, I broke off an engagement two years ago that everyone in my family is still mourning on my behalf, and I have spent my entire adult life being the daughter, the friend, the partner, the version of myself that everyone else wanted. I haven't been just me in so long I'm not sure what me even looks like anymore.

But this stranger? This grumpy, beautiful, brutally honest man on the other end of my phone? He doesn't know any of those versions. He just knows whatever I type at midnight when I can't sleep. And what I type at midnight is the truest thing about me.

He hasn't asked for a photo. He hasn't asked me to come visit. He's never once said anything that crossed a line.

I'm the one who gets in the car.

I'm the one who drives nine hundred kilometers because I've spent two months falling for a man I've never seen, and the second I pull into Crimson Hollow, he's standing on his porch like he heard my tires from the highway.

He has. He's been listening for me for weeks.

Wrong Number, Right Grumpy Mountain Man is a fast-burn, slow-burn-in-text wrong number bwwm romance featuring a grieving mountain veterinarian who forgot how to let anyone in, a Nigerian-Canadian artisan candle maker rebuilding herself from scratch, six weeks of late-night confessions through a screen, a heroine who drives across two provinces because some things you can't say in text, and the kind of in-person chemistry that detonates the second they make eye contact. Sweet meets steamy. Vanilla heat with emotional teeth. Brief but devastating. Guaranteed HEA.

A snake bite, a panic-stricken text, and a desperate attempt to save her best friend’s dog land Mara in the inbox of a vet, who just happens to be almost a thousand miles away. Holden can’t help her directly, but his response cuts through Mara’s panic long enough for her to get the dog to an emergency vet in time. A quick follow-up message to thank him should have been the end of it. Instead, it becomes the beginning of something neither of them expected. Their conversations start small, but before long, they’re both looking forward to that notification ping. Mara has spent most of her life trying to be the person everyone else expects her to be, and somehow, she still manages to be the family disappointment. At least according to her mother, who still hasn’t forgiven her for walking away from an engagement to a man she deemed perfect. Then there was Holden. A wildlife vet who lost his wife five years ago, but is still carrying the weight of his grief. He doesn’t judge Mara or tell her what she wants to hear. He simply listens, then gives her his opinion in the blunt, no-nonsense way she’s come to love. His texts are short and to the point, but somehow every word manages to cut through the noise and go straight to the heart of whatever Mara is struggling with. While Mara is the chatty one, I adored how much Holden comes to look forward to her messages, which bring something back to life in him that he thought he’d lost. There was something utterly addictive about watching these two fall for each other without knowing what they even looked like. Though that was one of my favorite parts of their connection. Without faces, body language or preconceived ideas getting in the way, their words revealed things they might otherwise have tried to hide. Eventually, tired of her family’s constant jabs and desperate to discover her connection with Holden is as real in person as it is through a screen, Mara throws caution to the wind and drives almost a thousand miles to Crimson Hollow, Holden’s home town. I loved Holden’s response when she told him she was coming: “Drive safe.” No “Are you sure?”, no evasion, just “Drive safe.” When they finally come face-to-face, all that chemistry that has been simmering beneath their messages erupts. But the morning after, Mara discovers that Holden is still living with a ghost and she refuses to accept a place in his life that leaves her standing in the shadows of his past. I loved that Mara finally learned her worth, and wasn’t willing to settle for scraps or wait around for Holden to decide whether there was room for her beside the memories of his late wife. In a way, Holden is the very reason Mara found the confidence to stand up for herself and demand more. Unfortunately for him, that meant she was no longer willing to accept half measures. Now Holden had a choice to make: hold on to the past, or risk everything for the woman who has unexpectedly become the one thing he couldn’t imagine losing. Sweet, steamy, heartfelt, and packed with emotional depth, this is a romance that sneaks up on you and then grabs you right in the feels. I loved the unique beginning, the slow-burn connection, the chemistry between Mara and Holden, and watching two wounded people find their way toward something real. Definitely one for the romantics who love their happily-ever-afters with plenty of heart, heat, and a whole lot of emotion.

Holden and Mara . . .

Holden was examining a 3-day old calf whose mother rejected her. She needs to be bottle fed every 4 hours, but the owner Tom Henderson only fed her twice and asked if she is going to survive. Needless to say, he didn't like the answer, but he was going to have to get up more frequently and feed her. Then he drove the 40 minutes back home. His woodpile at the cabin is 8 cords deep since he splits wood when he can't sleep; the wood will be enough for two winters. He reheated the morning coffee and his phone buzzes. Someone had texted the wrong number in panic over a friend's dog that "something" -- a snake? -- had bitten. The texter was in Toronto but he was in British Columbia and it was 10 pm. Then the phone again buzzed. He should ignore it, but he couldn't let the dog suffer. He already figured it was a Massasauga rattler and sent instructions of what NOT to do. He told her to get the dog to the closest animal hospital and call ahead so they can prep the antivenom. By the time she texted back, he had gone to bed. Mango was taken there just in time and would live. She also realized she had texted the wrong number! And somehow, the quiet feels different to him tonight.

Three days later, Mara texts the stranger. Her mother once more called her a "disappointment" and she needed a friend who wouldn't try to fix it for her. His answers made her laugh. He was just what she needed. She asked what a Hereford was, which he defined as a breed of cattle built like a tank with the temperament of a moody teenager. And she said he just described her mother. He asked what she studied in college and she said 2 years of chemical engineering. She broke off her engagement to cardiology Dr. Tunde Oladipo and dropped out to make candles and her mother has not recovered. At first, they texted maybe once a week, then every few days, every other day, and each night. She loved his animal stories. She finally told him about her broken engagement, and he simply said everyone telling her she ruined her life was wrong, no other comments or questions. Seven weeks, and this wrong number has been the best part of his day. They have never heard each other's voice or seen a picture of each other! And she finally texted him something important to her... why she broke off her wedding. She wore a dress to a party his mother picked out; hair straight because he once said he liked it that way; her shoes were from his sister; and she realized nothing had been chosen by HER. She was losing herself, so she returned the ring and her mother stopped speaking to her. Holden's answer: You looked in the mirror and you chose yourself. That takes more courage than anything. And it gave him the strength to tell her about his wife's death from a brain aneurysm and the pain of not being there for her. And her response began to heal him.

So she got in her car and drove to meet the man she never met. She found him waiting on the porch. Are they ready to start a new beginning together?

Wow!! Fab*u*lous Absolutely love this one!! I couldn't put this one down. This was a nice really quick, short read.

Holden and Mara officially met when she drives to met him and he's standing on his front porch. Mara sends Holden a messages about her friend's dog when she thinks he's been bitten by a snake. Holden is a vet so he helps out Mara and her friend sending them an emergency animal hospital. After Mara and her friend get her friend's dog and he's doing better she sends a message to Holden and then he tells her he's a wildlife vet in British Columbia. Three days later, Mara continues to send Holden text messages, about her life, her mother and her candle company. Mara asks Holden random questions and he replies to her. Mara tells Holden about being engage but didn't feel it was right so she broke it off, how her mother thinks she ruined her life. Six weeks later, the messages are getting longer, Holden and Mara exchange. Holden opens up to Mara about his wife passing away five years ago, and how he's shut down since then. A few weeks later, Mara tells Holden she's been looking up his hometown and wants to come. Mara lets Holden know she's been falling for him since they started sending text messages. Mara's drive takes her three days when she arrives Holden is waiting on his front porch for her. Mara sits in Holden's kitchen and tells him about her drive. Mara complains about Holden's coffee and wants to fix it for him. Mara tells Holden she doesn't want to replace his wife, or fix him she just wants to be in the same room with the man who messages her back. Holden then kisses Mara, then he takes her to his bedroom. Holden makes love to Mara. Holden asks Mara to stay and she tells him okay. The next morning Holden makes breakfast for Mara. When Holden is getting ready for the day, Mara cleans up. Holden's phone is sitting on the counter. Mara sees that her message are now about Holden's late wife's. Holden catches Mara, he knows what she seen. Mara wants to talk to Holden about it, but he doesn't want to. Holden leaves and tells Mara she can stay as long as she wants. After three hours and Holden doesn't come back Mara leaves him a message she'll be in town. Just before Mara is about to leave when Holden shows up, he tells her he's not good at this. Holden asks Mara to stay because he wants to wake up with her next to him. Holden tells her he loves her, Mara tells him she loves him. Mara is staying. Six months later, Mara has her candle set up in Holden's spare room which now is her studio. Holden and Mara are getting ready for his family to visit on Christmas Eve. Holden and Mara are talking about expansion on his cabin. Holden's doesn't need to look at his late wife's message every night. Not every night, only the hard ones. Mara is enough more than, she's everything.

Wrong Number, Right Grumpy Mountain Man is a beautiful reminder that life-changing connections can begin in the most unexpected ways. What starts with a mistaken text about a runaway golden retriever blossoms into a heartfelt romance that is equal parts tender, funny, and impossible to put down.

Mara instantly won me over. She's spent so much of her life trying to live up to everyone else's expectations that somewhere along the way, she lost sight of who she wanted to be. Her journey of rediscovering herself felt genuine, and I loved watching her slowly gain the confidence to choose a future that reflected her own dreams instead of someone else's.

Holden is exactly the kind of grumpy mountain man I love reading about. As a wildlife veterinarian living in the breathtaking Kootenay Rockies, he's quiet, blunt, and not one to waste words. Yet behind every short text message is someone who listens far better than he speaks. One of my favorite things about him is that he never tries to solve Mara's problems or tell her how to live her life. He simply creates a safe place where she can be completely herself, and sometimes that's exactly what someone needs most.

The text-message relationship is wonderfully done. Over six weeks of late-night conversations, shared fears, and honest confessions, their connection grows naturally without ever feeling rushed. By the time Mara decides to drive hundreds of kilometers to meet him, I was every bit as invested in their relationship as they were. And when Holden is already waiting on his porch because he's been listening for her car? That scene absolutely melted my heart.

Their first face-to-face meeting delivers everything the slow build promises. The chemistry is immediate, but it's built on weeks of trust, honesty, and genuine friendship, making every interaction feel earned. Watching two people who already know each other's hearts finally see one another in person was incredibly satisfying.

The setting of Crimson Hollow adds another layer of charm. The peaceful mountain landscape perfectly complements the quieter pace of their romance, creating a cozy backdrop that makes you want to stay long after the final page.

If you enjoy wrong-number romances, grumpy mountain men, heartfelt text-message relationships, small-town settings, and stories about finding the courage to become your truest self, Wrong Number, Right Grumpy Mountain Man is an easy book to recommend. It's sweet, heartfelt, wonderfully romantic, and proof that sometimes one accidental message can lead you exactly where you were always meant to be.

One wrong number gives two lonely people a reason to risk everything.

Mara only means to save her best friend's dog when she texts an emergency vet number. Instead, she reaches Holden, a blunt mountain veterinarian who's spent five years hiding inside grief. He answers anyway, and one desperate message begins a connection neither expects.

Their conversations shift from odd animal questions to midnight confessions. Mara admits she walked away from the life everyone wanted for her, while Holden shares the loss that's left him emotionally frozen. He never asks her to be less, and she never asks him to stop grieving. Honesty becomes trust, then longing.

When Mara's family pushes her too far, she drives across the country to meet him. Their chemistry is immediate, but distance isn't their deepest obstacle. Holden must believe there's room for new love without betraying the past that still shapes him.

Mara won't settle for half a heart, while Holden has to decide if protecting his grief is worth losing the woman who makes him feel alive. Together, they learn healing isn't forgetting. It's letting someone stand beside the parts that still hurt.

Mara stops defining herself through other people's expectations and embraces a love built on honesty and independence. Holden lowers the walls built by grief and guilt, allowing himself hope, intimacy, and a future that honors his past. Their bond grows from accidental texts into emotional trust and intense physical intimacy, strengthened by their willingness to face fear without hiding from each other.

An ultra-steamy, wrong number, grumpy sunshine, small town mountain romance about grief, healing, vulnerability, self-discovery, and trust. It's about two lonely people finding safety in midnight conversations and learning that love can honor the past while making room for a future. They choose a future.

The Elevator Pitch: A wrong number brings together a grieving mountain veterinarian and a woman determined to reclaim the life she almost lost to everyone else's expectations. As late-night messages become the safest place either of them has ever known, thousands of miles and old wounds stand between the connection they've built and the future they secretly want. When the distance finally disappears, they must decide whether love is strong enough to outrun grief, fear, and the lives they thought were already written.

Heat Level: 🔥🔥🔥 Ultra-Steamy / Erotic Romance

When Mara sends a random text to the wrong guy, she doesn’t expect her life to change forever. She’s been so focused on being everything that everyone else wants her to be that she’s lost sight of what she actually wants. Between the pressures of her family, an ended engagement, and constant reminders that she’s letting everyone down, Mara feels more lost than ever. That is until she texts grumpy wildlife veterinarian, Holden.
Holden is not your typical swoony romantic leading man. His messages are short, straight to the point, and occasionally rude. But there’s something undeniably endearing about getting punched in the heart with brutal honesty. When Mara starts opening up about her problems, Holden never offers solutions. He simply listens. Gradually their nightly talks become a haven for Mara to let her guard down and be real about her struggles, hopes, and dreams.
I loved getting to see their relationship grow through texts. There’s something amazing about falling in love with someone based on how they make you feel, their personality, and their words rather than how they look. Mara and Holden create this strong emotional bond before they ever meet in person which makes when they do all the more special.
Nine hundred kilometers may seem like a crazy drive to make across Canada, but anyone who read this book will understand why Mara felt like she had to take that chance. Nine hundred kilometers away from everyone and everything she felt responsible for Mara was finally doing something for herself. And Holden wanting nothing more than to stand on his front porch and listen for her car pull up was honestly the sweetest thing.
Yes Holden is a gruff mountain man but underneath that he’s a man who listens, observes, and really cares about the people around him. Mara unlocks a sweeter side to Holden without trying to change who he is at his core. They both allow each other to be real which is what makes their relationship so believable.

Some things you can't say through a screen

Wrong Number, Right Grumpy Mountain Man by Deidre - Ann Anderson is part of the Wrong Number, Right Grump series. This story tugs at your heartstrings and then makes them play a beautiful melody. Imara "Mara" Adukunle is the youngest daughter, of three, with a mother she just cannot please. Two years ago she was in university for a chemical engineering degree, engaged to a Cardiology Fellow at Sunnybrook hospital and planning the wedding. But one evening as she was getting ready for an event at his hospital she looked in the mirror and realized nothing she saw was actually something she picked. So the next morning she took off the ring and walked out of their condo. Now she lives above her parents garage and has an artisan candle and apothecary products business, Marrow & Light. Late one night her best friend Chioma's golden retriever named Mango is in distress after what they suspect is a snake bite. When no one answers the emergency number from the vet Mara texts asking for help. That text goes to the wrong number but ends up being the right person to help. Holden Briggs is a large animal veterinarian who lives remotely outside of Crimson Hallow, British Columbia. Holden has been barely living the last five years after his wife died unexpectedly. When he receives the text from an unknown number that is in the Toronto area he asks a couple questions and then tells them to get the Mango to the emergency animal hospital. A couple of weeks later another text arrives from the same number. This starts a texting routine late at night sharing some pieces of their life that they don't tell anyone else. What happens next is sweet, soulful, and has sizzle. I really enjoyed this story, and will share that I shed a few tears along the way.

I went into Wrong Number, Right Grumpy Mountain Man expecting a cute wrong-number romance, and oh my goodness, it gave me so much more! Mara and Holden’s late-night text connection is the kind of setup that makes you grin at your screen and immediately root for two people who have no business making you this invested this quickly. The grumpy-meets-sunshine energy is delicious, especially because Holden may be blunt and mountain-man surly, but he listens in a way that feels quietly powerful.

What I loved most was Mara’s journey. She is funny, tender, and so easy to cheer for as she starts choosing herself instead of living up to everyone else’s expectations. Her candle-making charm, her brave road trip, and her honest midnight confessions made her feel wonderfully real. And Holden? He is exactly the kind of emotionally guarded wilderness hero who makes one tiny soft moment feel like fireworks.

This book is fast, sweet, heartfelt, and full of cozy mountain romance magic. It has emotional bite, playful chemistry, and that satisfying “yes, these two absolutely belong together” feeling. If you enjoy wrong-number romances, grumpy heroes, brave heroines, and happily-ever-afters with a warm little spark, this is an easy five-star read.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 5/5 I absolutely adored this book! Holden was the perfect grumpy mountain man—quiet, protective, patient, and so incredibly caring. I loved that their relationship started with a simple wrong-number text and slowly grew through weeks of late-night conversations. Their connection felt genuine, and it was refreshing to see them fall in love by getting to know each other’s hearts first.

Mara was such a relatable heroine. Watching her find herself after years of trying to be who everyone else expected her to be made her journey even more meaningful. Holden never tried to change or “fix” her—he simply listened, supported her, and gave her the space to be herself. That made their relationship feel even more special.

The moment they finally met in person was everything I hoped it would be. The chemistry was instant, but it was the emotional connection they had already built that made those moments so unforgettable. Holden’s protective, gentle nature completely stole my heart.

This story was sweet, emotional, romantic, and just the right amount of steamy. If you love wrong-number romances, grumpy mountain men, heartfelt conversations, and heroes who show their love through actions instead of big speeches, this one is definitely worth reading.

Wrong Number, Right Grumpy Mountain Man is a Crimson Hollow Spinoff and part of the Wrong Number, Right Grump series. I loved this story, so many feels with this. Holden is a large animal vet; he is also very alone and has left it that way for 5 years. One night he gets a frenzied text from someone about her best friend’s dog that got bit by something, and he was really bad off. He didn’t know the number, nor the person, it wasn’t even in the same area he lived in. They text again telling him the dog’s name is Mango and about how he is the sweetest boy alive. Holden could have said that it was a wrong number and left it at that instead, he answered exactly what was necessary to save Mango’s life. Everything about this storyline is amazing. Speaking to people online you don’t know is still just as scary as meeting someone and talking to them in person. The way the storyline set up Holden’s life and Mara’s life is just perfectly done. The story and the characters are just wonderful and make this five-star read worth the time. Grab this fun read and the rest of the series and the one that it is spun off of as well and just enjoy!.

This was a really enjoyable small-town mountain man romance with a fun wrong-number setup. The heroine is trying to reach a veterinarian for an emergency, but apparently there is a typo in the number, and instead of reaching the local vet, she ends up contacting a veterinarian on the other side of the country.

I particularly enjoyed that the story is set in Canada. That made the book feel a little different from the many small-town romances set in the usual locations, and I found the Canadian setting quite refreshing.

The romance itself also has more depth than just the fun premise. Both characters have their own baggage and past experiences to deal with, but the heroine in particular has quite a lot of family issues weighing on her. I liked seeing how those things affected her and how the relationship developed alongside them.

Overall, this was a sweet and interesting romance with an entertaining wrong-number beginning, a refreshing setting, and characters who have enough personal history to give the story some depth. It made for a lovely read.

I loved the unique story of a wrong number text blooming into a romance! There is something so special and intimate about watching two people connect purely through their truest, midnight thoughts before they ever meet in person.

Mara and Holden's dynamic is absolute magic. Mara’s journey of rebuilding herself after years of pleasing everyone else felt so real and relatable, and Holden—blunt, surly, and deeply guarded—was the exact anchor she needed. He didn't try to fix her or ask her to be anyone else; he just listened. The buildup over those six weeks of late-night confessions made the tension so rich, so when Mara finally drives nine hundred kilometers to Crimson Hollow, their in-person connection completely detonates. The contrast between his grumpy mountain-man exterior and the quiet way he'd been waiting and listening for her to arrive gave me all the butterflies. It’s sweet, steamy, and packed with so much emotional depth!.

Wrong Number, Right Grumpy Mountain Man by Deidre-Ann Anderson was such a fun, easy-to-read romance! I’m a sucker for a grumpy hero, and the wrong-number setup made the story even more entertaining. I loved watching the unexpected connection develop and seeing the softer side behind the gruff mountain-man exterior. The chemistry between the characters kept me invested in their story, and I enjoyed the mix of humor, romance, and swoony moments. It’s the kind of book that makes for a perfect cozy escape when you want something light, romantic, and entertaining. Deidre-Ann Anderson did a great job creating a hero who is grumpy enough to be irresistible while still giving the romance plenty of heart. Overall, Wrong Number, Right Grumpy Mountain Man was a sweet, steamy, feel-good romance with plenty of charm!

I swear! Judgemental mothers or parents in general drive me up a wall. I admire Imara’s strength and the restraint she showed every time her mother judged her and her life choices. 5000km apart that’s roughly 3,106 miles to those of us that don’t use the metric system. I am familiar with a drive that long and the last time I made it it took 2 weeks of 8 hour days, so I can admire Imara accomplishing it in 3 days with only her driving.

Holden lost his wife five years ago, and hadn’t quite gotten over it. That is until Imara texted the wrong number and drove 5000km over three days to see him. Wrong Number, Right Grumpy Mountain Man is an amazing read. The random midnight texts had me loling so hard I almost fell out of my chair. Up next is Wrong Number, Right Grumpy Mechanic by Lilah Hart and I can’t wait to see where the story goes.

Competing with a ghost?....

...or his guilt?

Holden has spent the last five years just surviving and going through the motions, he's not living, just carrying the grief and the guilt.
Mara's appeal for help may be a wrong number, but it's a plea he cannot ignore and one that changes....everything.
Mara and Holden both have baggage, demons and ghosts, some are easier to live with than others and some are yours alone to carry. Yours to decide when it is finally time to set that baggage down...and move on. I like Mara and Holden, they are both a little broken but stronger than they believe, they put a front on for the world to see but lower those walls when texting each other and we see the real them. Every hurt, every pain, every hope and every fear of trusting and loving again.
A lovely addition to the Wrong Number series, I read this on Kindle Unlimited.

WRONG NUMBER, RIGHT GRUMPY MOUNTAIN MAN is part of the multi-authored Wrong Number, Right Grump series. It's a short and steamy, OTT, wrong number, grumpy-sunshine, BWWM, curvy girl gets her mountain man romance. Holden is a 39-year-old hunky, grumpy, reclusive, widowed large animal veterinarian. Mara is a curvy, Nigerian, candle maker whose family makes her feel like a failure. When her bestie's dog is bit by a snake, she texts a veterinarian emergency line and ends up talking to him. He assists and over the next few months they continue to text. They fall in love via text, sight unseen, but Holden still grieves his wife. Will he let her in? This one broke my heart a bit for what these two had endured. They were great together and so supportive. Their chemistry was hot and the ending was happy after some minor angst.

To save a life… or three. A golden retriever in Toronto gets bit by a snake. A text reaches across Canada to a wildlife vet in British Columbia. He answers with life saving advise. The story starts here but that’s not where it ends. An emotional roller coaster with a man who lives his grief and a woman trying to live her dream. They share words late at night. They are brutally honest. He answers every time. The whole dynamic changes when she chooses to be herself despite her families opinion and drives thousands of kilometers to prove it. This story will get under your skin and into your heart. With the villain being the very person that should always have your back. The bravery of pair to step into the light and fight for each other before they have ever met.

Long-distance insta-love! This is Deidre-Ann Anderson's contribution to the "Wrong Number Right Grumpy..." multi-author series. I thoroughly enjoyed this book. Two people, who don't even know they're lonely, living across the continent from each other, connecting accidentally over the phone. The storyline may seem like a stretch, but it works. I felt emotionally connected to these two characters. Them, getting to know each other and being supportive through honest phone conversations. Drawing emotionally closer. Like I said, the plot may seem implausible [but then, what instalove story isn't!!!?] but it really works. A definite recommendation.

For 5 years, Holden has lived with the grief of losing his wife, going through life quiet, methodical and alone. One text about a dog and a snake is about to change everything! Mara is living under the disappointment of her mother. A stranger that listens is about to give her a new lease of life and daring her to dream. But can she live up to a ghost?! one wrong number, 5000km and a truthfulness that is about to test everything. This was my first read from Deirdre-Ann and I wasn't disappointed. This is a quick fun read where a text to the wrong vet saves a dog’s life, rescues the vet from grief and gives Mara the strength to choose herself.

Sometimes one needs someone else to break one out of grief. Mara does that for Holden when she texts to save her friend’s dog. They continue texting. Holden listens without judging and gradually shares pieces of his own pain.

The characters are multi-layered and offer the reader surprising depth for such a quick story. I found myself relating to Holden’s grief and Mara’s reluctance to become someone else to please others.

I really didn't want Holden and Mara's story to be over. It's a cute, quick read about how a wrong number can turn into something amazing. I felt their connection with every text. Mara taking the leap and driving to see him sight unseen and voice unheard took a lot of guts. Not sure I was brave enough to do it, but it worked out well in the end. I can empathize with Holden and was so glad that Mara found him. Although it's a short story, it's complete. The plot flows well and has a satistying ending. This was my first story in the multi-author series. I really enjoyed it so I will be getting the rest as well.

It seems like everything in Holden's life took place on a Tuesday - at least the big items - the ones worth remembering.

I think that the summary of this book is best said by the author herself in the bonus epilogue -

Wrong number. Right man. Five thousand kilometers. A golden retriever named Mango. Two months of midnight texts. One woman brave enough to get in the car.

Yep - that sums it up quite nicely. There's so much emotion in those texts and in their first meeting, and at their second chance and at their loved ones acceptance.

It was truly a beautiful story.

Holden is a wildlife Vet in Britich Columbia but mainly looks after large farm animals. He doesnt do much other than look after animals and stay at his cabin. The he gets a text from someone in Toronto about a dog with a snake bite. Being a vet, he replies back.
Mari makes bees wax candles after dropping out from 2 years of studying chemical engineering. Broke it off with her fiance and lives over the garage at her parent's place. Whilst visiting her best friend, Mango the dog is bitten by a snake. Mari text's the afterhours vet number. It's the wrong number.
Holden does help her though and the texts continue to pass back and forth.
Its a nice quick read.

Cute addition to the wrong number series.

Mara (Imara) Adekunle and Holden Briggs fall in love after texting the truest version of themselves to each other. With a sick golden retriever that brings them together, banter that made me laugh out loud, and a bit of steam, this a good addition to the wrong number series.

I wish I could rate this one higher, but it fell a little short for me. Still a good addition to the series that has our main characters falling in love after texting the wrong number.

This is a short heartfelt and steamy love story. Mara and Holden are both dealing with life in different ways, for him is grieving his wife, while she is trying to live her life under her mother's constant scruitiny. They connect when she sends him a text when her sister's dog is bitten by a snake, as a vet he gives her advice, however they are on opposites sides of Canada. What follows is a sweet love story that develops through conversations via chat. Until the space becomes too large and she decides to take hold of her life and go after him!
A great read!!.

Another story of fate. How sometimes our mistakes make everything right.
A grumpy grieving veterinarian on the west coast finds solace in a woman from the east coasts texts. She has always been a disappointment to her mother. A broken engagement, candle making instead of university. He just exists work, home, his wife’s last text always at the top. The final breaking point with her mother and a comment about trying from him has her in a car driving cross country.. The emotional journey for both of them to finally find their place and a love to last.

Wrong Number, Right Grumpy Mountain Man, by Deidre-Ann Anderson is a fun interracial novella. Mara's friend's dog is bitten by a snake and in her haste to find a vet, she accidentally texts a wrong number which belongs to Holden. It has been five years, but Holden is still grieving the loss of his decease wife. Mara is still getting grief from her mother for breaking off her engagement. Will they find a HEA with each other?.

I think this is my favorite book from this series—or even this author—so far! I loved that the story was centered around animals, and the slow-burn romance was so sweet. It was a short book, but I really liked how much both characters grew throughout the story. It was genuinely such a cute, wholesome read with a happily-ever-after, and I’d definitely recommend this one, especially if you’re already a fan of this author!.

I love this book. The FMC texts the wrong person but gets the answer that she needs. She needs a veterinarian. Her text reaches one but across the country. The MMC is that veterinarian. He gives her the information that she needs. Then they keep texting. After another frustrating conversation with her mother, she gets packs up her stuff and drives to him. There’s a couple struggles but they get their HEA. The spice is good.

How one wrong number can lead to forever. In her panic she dialed the wrong number but luckily got a vet. Her friends dog got bit by a snake. He helped her through it and the dog survived. But then she started texting just because and they formed a bond. Will they finally meet in person or keep it to text?
