These books should come with a caution. The writing style is a little different, but I didn't find that to be a problem, after the initial adjustment.
But the author does not preserve continuity, which I find a tad annoying. Things we were told in the first book are tweaked and outright changed or contradicted in the next. Perhaps the author needs to maintain a whiteboard to track information so that the flow isn't disrupted when the reader stops because of contradictions and outright story line changes.
A little spoiler - it's not corrected in book 3! So if this ruins your reading - quit now!
It's a shame because with a little more attention this series could be excellent. I find myself reducing the rating because I prefer to be reading a consistent story, not one that is going to be completely disrupted by a lack of attention to maintaining continuity.
