Wow. I loved this book. A true 5 star favorite Christian Fiction read. This is what I need in Christian Fiction books these days. Depth. Grace. Faith. Grief. Redemption in the Lord.
Thank you to Christina for sending me a gifted copy of this book to read for review. I also borrowed a copy of the ebook and audiobook from Kobo Plus, loved the narration when I listened to a few chapters.
This was such an emotional, grace-filled story. She tackles the tough topics of teen pregnancy but this was such a multi-layered, multi-character story and so much more than just that topic. We followed characters who went through infertility trying to adopt, a mother who lost her son, a young girl who has an unplanned pregnancy, a woman with a tragic secret hidden for many years....many hard situations, but each story intertwines God's grace, love and redemption.
The multiple points of view worked really well, allowing me to connect with each woman's unique struggles, whether it was grief, regret, fear, or the longing to become a mother. I appreciated that every character felt human and flawed, and I found myself rooting for each of them in different ways.
The Christian message felt authentic and naturally woven into the story, emphasizing forgiveness, healing, and the truth that God can bring beauty from even the hardest circumstances.
The ending really got me. Unexpected and beauty in the ashes.
Overall, I would definitely recommend it to readers who enjoy character-driven Christian fiction with meaningful themes.

This book contains so much emotion, so much struggle... so much grief. But simultaneously, it infused me with hope and joy and refreshed passion to love others well and to be a safe place for people to fall.
Each of our characters is fighting battles of her own. Izzy is pregnant and losing everything she'd planned for herself. Jillian's long-hidden secret is threatening to break loose and destroy the life she's built, including her marriage. Stacey and her husband are battling infertility and loss, longing for a child. And Margaret is struggling with feeling like a total failure as a mother and yearning to connect with her son.
Ultimately, this book is about motherhood, and what it means to truly love and care for a child. It's about the value and sanctity of life, and the importance of support--even for little ones who are born from less-than-desirable situations. Babies are SO precious, and so are their mamas. Watching these women get over their reservations and love openly, honestly, and abundantly was truly inspiring.
AS much as I love romances, I can appreciate a romance-free book just as much (if not more!), and The Deep End of Love had me wondering how everything would end. While the connections between characters were a bit predictable and even contrived at times, I liked it for the sake of this story. And Nelson didn't tie everything with a perfect bow, but allowed things to remain slightly raw yet hopeful. Overall, this was a truly delightful read.

This story is a re-release of one of Christina’s earlier novels. I had not read this story upon its original release and when I came across it for JustRead Tours, it immediately caught my eye. This story is so completely beautifully written. I really enjoyed the different perspectives of the characters involved with the teenage pregnancy and how Christina knit all of those threads together. The story is not without its surprise twists, which resulted in two jaw dropping moments for me, which helped make this story even more incredible for me. There are many emotional moments within the story that pulled at my heart strings. The ending could not have been written any better and I felt it was perfect for the story. This was a phenomenal read for me and it’s going straight to my keeper shelf!

If you want a story that will tug at your heartstrings in the best way, this is the story for you. It made me tear up, it broke my momma's heart, and it gave me such a great perspective. I was not expecting such emotion, but this story was beautifully woven. The Deep End of Love is the first story I have read written by Christina Suzann Nelson, and I look forward to reading more.
This story follows four women who are intertwined and working through their own struggles. Izzy is a junior in high school. She just found out she is pregnant, and now all her dreams seem to be crashing down. Jillian, the mother of Izzy, is trying to help her daughter navigate this, while also battling what others will think of her and struggling with her past, having gone through with an abortion that no one knows about- no one except her mother, who heavily encouraged it. Margaret is the mother of Izzy’s boyfriend. Who is fighting for her son’s future when it all comes crashing down. Stacey, who recently moved to town. Stacey and her husband have been trying to adopt after dealing with infertility for years. After the unexpected and sudden loss of their adopted son, they have moved to try to heal. Now ready to try and adopt again, Stacey finds herself helping at a house that helps pregnant girls. These ladies' lives intertwine in the most special way.
Christina Suzann Nelson did a great job of intertwining faith throughout the story.

Mixed thoughts on this novel.
I've worked in this ministry arena for 40 years. One center set up a maternity home that attracted only one woman, then closed.
I hope Christina's description of life in an Oregon community is true.
She does a good job of demonstrating the guilt and shame that can haunt women and then hijack the rest of their lives as they try to hide it.
Abortion is NOT an unforgivable sin--who knows how many times I've said that?
I thought some of the relationships depicted were odd, and the "happily ever after" felt a little too neat.

I’m not sure when I last read a book that sucked me into its pages so thoroughly and completely. It took me a few days to get through it, simply because I took a trip to visit childhood friends over the time I was reading this story, and yet I did take myself off to bed a little early one night so I could read far enough to get the characters out of the immediately stressful situation they were in. I rarely read much on a trip, so having a book grab my attention to that extent is noteworthy.
Mrs. Nelson knows how to write a story, and she writes it well.
I love the way this tells four different women’s stories, and how their experiences complement each other while still offering some contrast. I honestly can’t decide which one of the women I relate to the most. One of the most touching stories for me was the fear Jillian had, and the way that created a barrier between her and those she loved most—it was a sobering reminder. I wanted to wrap Margaret in a soft blanket and a huge hug, and protect her for a while. The poor dear! Irene, though not a POV character, was the quintessential spunky old lady, but I loved the depth that grew in her character as the story went on. Stacy…watching her work through her grief was such a blessing! And then there’s Izzy, who was surprisingly strong and sweet, despite everything she had to go through.
This book takes some unexpected twists and turns along the way, and I loved that. I got an inkling about one of them fairly early on, so it was satisfying to see that turn out true later in the book. I had some ideas about other things, too, ones I thought couldn’t possibly be the case, and it was fun to see how they turned out.
You can expect to run the full range of emotions as you read this book—grief, hope, joy, some humor, anger, you name it, it’s there. And, if you’re like me, you might experience a little reader rage, because some of those chapter endings are pretty painful cliffhangers (Mom got some amusement at my expense one afternoon when I finished a particularly bad chapter, and didn’t have time to continue reading, haha!).
If you’re looking for solid Christian fiction with an ultimately redemptive storyline, and are willing to go to some difficult places before that redemption happens, pick up this book today. You’ll love it.

July 1, 2026I was so invested in this book. A heartfelt and heartbreaking story that gave me so much to think about. Well-written and intense. To be honest, it didn't end the way I hoped, but that makes it realistic since rarely does real life go the way we hope. Highly recommend for fans of Amanda Cox, Nicole Deese, and Carrie Walker.

Another winner by Christina Suzann Nelson! In this book we follow four main characters: Izzy - who is in high school and has just found out she is pregnant, Jillian - Izzy’s mom, Margaret - the mother of Izzy’s boyfriend, and Stacey - a woman whose mourning the loss of an infant son. Even knowing just that non-spoilery info you probably have some guesses as to where things are going to go but let me say, Christina Suzann Nelson is good at throwing curveballs and keeping you on your toes! It was such a good read, emotional in mostly the best ways.

Spiritual Themes
The Deep End of Love delves into themes of compassion and control, with a strong pro-life angle. I really appreciate that Nelson acknowledges the wrongness of abortion, without glazing over the challenges of carrying the pregnancy to term. She makes it clear that women are offered a very hard choice, but doesn’t shy away from the vital importance of giving life to preborn babies.
Initial Impressions
I moved through this book quite quickly, as I found the story to be both engaging and captivating. I was also truly delighted with the strong pro-life message. For most of the book, therefore, I anticipated leaving a solid (and easy) five star review. Towards the ending, and especially in reflecting upon the some of the book’s themes, I began to reconsider my recommendation status, which is why I'm not doing a rating for this particular title.
Choices
The Deep End of Love is an exploration of choices: our motives for the decisions we make and the repercussions for these decisions. It’s an honest look into how seemingly small choices can change how our trajectory, but it’s also a deep acknowledgement that our mistakes don’t define us.
Compassion and Empathy
The Deep End of Love is a deeply compassionate work with a strongly empathetic trajectory. There are multiple young, unwed, mothers in the book (including one of the narrators), and these characters offer insight into the experience of teenage expectancy and motherhood.
Izzy
Izzy’s perspective points to the hypocrisy in people’s attitudes toward young, pregnant women: “It’s funny how you don’t think much about the rumors of teens sleeping together, but on the occasion when a girl becomes pregnant, everything changes… get too close and it could happen to you” (p. 126).
Because Izzy is a Christian, she also grapples with the pregnancy in light of her relationship with God, wondering briefly if she is being punished for the decision she made. Additionally, as she begins to experience the stigma of being a visibly pregnant teen mom, she recognizes that people are thinking the same things about her that she would have previously thought about others in her position.
For instance, at the start of the story, Izzy thinks, “There’s no way this is my life. Maybe the girls who slink out of school at lunchtime, spending time with their rotating boyfriends. Maybe even the girls who have never been to church… but not me” (p. 21). Izzy is a sympathetic character: a successful student, a great athlete, and not someone most people would consider particularly promiscuous. And throughout the story, she’s constantly considering her baby’s future (with a heavy dose of guilt). It becomes so clear that the decisions she made, while life-changing, have not changed who she is as a person.
Honestly, Izzy’s story invited me to reconsider my own implicit prejudices and judgments.
Stacey
I liked Stacey’s character because of one particularly relatable scene. Stacey finds herself playing unwitting birthing coach to a young mom and feels vastly unequipped for the task. As the youngest child in her family, she’s used to others stepping in and handling emergency situations. I found this to be a relatable perspective, and I appreciated it all the more, because fiction heroines are often seen rising to the occasion with grace and ease. (Okay, Stacey does rise to the occasion, but it was nice to see that she did not just automatically know what to do).
Control
Jillian’s perspective offers insightful discussion on the theme of control, as Jillian is desperate to “save” Izzy from the pregnancy. While Jillian has cut ties with her own mom due to controlling behaviors, she does not recognize that her own actions may fall under the same umbrella.
But what was most meaningful to me, in terms of the control theme, was the discussion about what our desire for control says about our relationship with God. As Jillian’s husband tells her, “There’s one big difference between trying to control our lives and living them. One has God in it and the other has you playing God” (p. 152). This is one of my favorite quotes in the book!
In another conversation, Izzy is bemoaning how her choices will affect her child’s future. A wise older character encourages her to move forward, rather than looking back. “How can you change your thinking,” she asks, “and start living from today forward?” (p. 183). She also encourages Izzy to “do [her] best and trust God for the rest” (p. 182), and emphasizes the importance of continuously walking with Him.
Respectful Discussion
While I immensely enjoyed the book, there’s one element of the message that concerns me: the very strong emphasis on the “right” of children to have a mother and father. On one hand, I understand where the author is coming from, because I absolutely agree that God’s design is for children to have a mother and a father. On the other hand, I feel like it’s something of a slippery slope when we talk about children’s “rights” to certain types of life. This is one of the main arguments made by proponents of abortion: If a mom is not able to offer a perfect life to her developing child, she’s encouraged to abort.
To be clear, the book is very clearly pro-life. I’m just concerned about how far we should take the author’s mother/father argument. Does this apply to widows and widowers? Divorcees? Should children be given up for adoption if they don’t have a mom and dad? Of course, I am stretching the point, but I do feel a need to bring this up, as the “mom and dad message” is delivered through multiple mediums. It’s not something we see as an individual character’s thought process. Instead, it’s emphasized through at least two of the narrative perspectives, in addition to the smaller, side narratives.
All this said, I stand about what I said as far as my deep appreciation for the empathy and compassion in the book.

Concluding Thoughts
The Deep End of Love is a beautiful, compassionate read about family, choices, and control. While I was uncomfortable with one of the main points the author was emphasizing through multiple elements of the narrative, I do feel that the book does a fantastic job of challenging assumptions and prejudice surrounding unexpected pregnancy. The story is also unapologetically pro-life, which I found to be deeply refreshing.
Due to the narratival bent, I wouldn’t necessarily recommend this to currently expecting mothers, but I do appreciate a lot of what the book is doing.

Jillian’s perspective offers insightful discussion on the theme of control, as Jillian is desperate to “save” Izzy from the pregnancy. While Jillian has cut ties with her own mom due to controlling behaviors, she does not recognize that her own actions may fall under the same umbrella.
But what was most meaningful to me, in terms of the control theme, was the discussion about what our desire for control says about our relationship with God. As Jillian’s husband tells her, “There’s one big difference between trying to control our lives and living them. One has God in it and the other has you playing God” (p. 152). This is one of my favorite quotes in the book!
In another conversation, Izzy is bemoaning how her choices will affect her child’s future. A wise older character encourages her to move forward, rather than looking back. “How can you change your thinking,” she asks, “and start living from today forward?” (p. 183). She also encourages Izzy to “do [her] best and trust God for the rest” (p. 182), and emphasizes the importance of continuously walking with Him.
Respectful Discussion
While I immensely enjoyed the book, there’s one element of the message that concerns me: the very strong emphasis on the “right” of children to have a mother and father. On one hand, I understand where the author is coming from, because I absolutely agree that God’s design is for children to have a mother and a father. On the other hand, I feel like it’s something of a slippery slope when we talk about children’s “rights” to certain types of life. This is one of the main arguments made by proponents of abortion: If a mom is not able to offer a perfect life to her developing child, she’s encouraged to abort.
To be clear, the book is very clearly pro-life. I’m just concerned about how far we should take the author’s mother/father argument. Does this apply to widows and widowers? Divorcees? Should children be given up for adoption if they don’t have a mom and dad? Of course, I am stretching the point, but I do feel a need to bring this up, as the “mom and dad message” is delivered through multiple mediums. It’s not something we see as an individual character’s thought process. Instead, it’s emphasized through at least two of the narrative perspectives, in addition to the smaller, side narratives.
All this said, I stand about what I said as far as my deep appreciation for the empathy and compassion in the book.

Concluding Thoughts
The Deep End of Love is a beautiful, compassionate read about family, choices, and control. While I was uncomfortable with one of the main points the author was emphasizing through multiple elements of the narrative, I do feel that the book does a fantastic job of challenging assumptions and prejudice surrounding unexpected pregnancy. The story is also unapologetically pro-life, which I found to be deeply refreshing.
Due to the narratival bent, I wouldn’t necessarily recommend this to currently expecting mothers, but I do appreciate a lot of what the book is doing.

Another favorite for the year! 5 plus stars. I was so into this book. WOW! ❤️ It's a heavier read, but it is so worth the read!
There were 4 points of views and I am so impressed by how well this is written and how the 4 different personalities were shown from each point of view. It all tied in so well together. And there were some surprises in the story.
This story will pull on your heart strings. Tissues probably are needed. This book will stay with me for a while.

WOW, I was not expecting that! What a hard hitting, but also incredibly wholesome book! This one had me invested from the very beginning. I think this one is best to go into blind and follow all of the twists and turns as they unravel. A book that speaks so much of family, friendship, motherhood, parenthood, & overcoming! This will definitely be one I recommend all the time for anyone who wants an emotional and gritty read!

The Deep End of Love by Christina Suzann Nelson completely stole my heart. From the very first pages, I found myself deeply invested in these characters and their journeys. What I expected to be an emotional story turned into something so much more powerful and unforgettable.
This novel beautifully explores teen pregnancy, grief, motherhood, family relationships, faith, forgiveness, and the complicated ways our lives intertwine. Through Izzy and the other interconnected perspectives, Nelson creates characters who feel incredibly real. Their struggles, mistakes, heartbreaks, and triumphs felt authentic, making it impossible not to become emotionally attached to them.
What impressed me most was the way the author balanced difficult topics with hope and grace. Even during the hardest moments, there was a sense of healing and redemption that left me feeling uplifted. The emotional depth of this story had me tearing up more than once, and several scenes will stay with me for a long time.

I absolutely loved this story! Loved all of the women in this novel and how they brought this story to life with their strength, resilience, past and hope for the future. Izzy Cline is on her way to becoming an Olympic swimmer, but Jillian becomes worried when she loses a race after having been under the weather the last few days. She will get her to the doctor and one bad race won't ruin anything, but when she sees what physically has Izzy sick, her heart drops. How can this be? Was she not a good enough mother to protect her daughter from this happening, this also brings up a past that Jillian has done everything she can to keep buried. After a terrible car wreck, Izzy's life is irrevocably changed and she feels she has made a mess of things in life and the only way to try and get past this all is to go to a house for pregnant girls. She can't do this at home, not now and with how her mother has been. Through the pregnancy there is growth, understanding, and a strength that Izzy gains from being with other girls in her same situation but from very different backgrounds and environments. As the due date nears, the fear of motherhood looms and with it motherhood, uncovered secrets and new friendships are formed from this one growing life that's about to enter the world. Having been in Izzy's situation in high school, I really related to her character of having a child while still being a child myself, and feeling so alone and how my friends were starting their lives and I was going to be a mother, my path now decided. This is the second book in the last couple of weeks with themes of teen pregnancy, mom secrets- past sins coming to haunt you. This one hits all the related themes: abortion, adoption, and keeping the baby, as well as all the related hard decisions and emotional results. I connected with many of the characters and felt for all the women in the book. I personally wanted a little bit more in all of the stories, but because they were all woven together some felt a little abbreviated. I feel that the strategy of using so many different views delivers a powerful message. It really makes the reader think about the many different sides, inputs, and impacts of teen pregnancy, adoption, infertility. It was well done and made me feel all the feels. Hope is my theme and hope often has a bittersweetness to it that makes it all the stronger, just like this book.

an emotional and uplifting story of life and love!
it all kicks off as izzy's teen pregnancy makes itself known and continues as she and some of the women in her life grapple with the ramifications. her story brings up a whole host of emotions and memories for them, exploring motherhood and second chances, and it proves both heartbreaking and heartwarming to see all the individual experiences weave together.
at times, i did have a hard time keeping the various perspectives straight, but i still very much enjoyed all of them in the deep end of love. it's quite life-affirming, and though the ending might seem a little convenient to some, it's the kind that i love a lot.
it's a solid story that i'm sure many contemporary-fiction readers could easily love, and i recommend it.

Christian Contemporary Fiction is a favorite genre of mine. The Deep End of Love by Christina Suzann Nelson is the latest book that I have read. Christina Suzann Nelson is a new to me author and I was excited to read this novel.
WOW, absolutely astounded by this book. The storyline is one that is VERY emotional and gave me Happy and Sad tears for many reasons. The story has 4 main characters: Izzy: A Pregnant High School girl, Jillian: Izzy's Mom, Margaret: the mom of Izzy's Boyfriend, Stacey: a married woman and has infertility issues. The 4 women each have their own story and their stories are connected and similar to one another in so many ways and factors.
I began reading the book and could not put it down because I felt connected to all 4 of the women, especially Izzy and Stacey stories immediately. I, similar to Izzy, found out I was Pregnant when I was a Senior in High School. I was scared, but I knew I was not alone. I had family and Christian friends who loved and supported me throughout the Pregnancy. Izzy's Mom reminds me of my Mom. My mom was 15 and Pregnant and by age 17 was married with 3 girls under 1. (Single birth at age 16 and 13 days before my older sisters first b-day, my mom gave birth to my twin sister and I.) Izzy's Mom has regrets for her decision as a young Pregnant woman and though my Mom didn't make the same decision she always felt she missed out on her teenage years and many other parts of life. Margaret, seems similar to Mom of my Baby's Father at the time. Although, she was very supportive of the decision I was making and she spoke with my Boyfriend from a Mom's prescriptive and that helped him understand. Stacey, ohhh my heart was breaking for her and all that she went through. Losing her adopted son and still yearning to adopt another child. I chose Adoption for my Baby Boy and I know the story of the Mom who adopted my Baby Boy, whose infertility issues led to the decision for her and her husband to adopt. God truly was in the midst of my decision and the Support of my Pastor's wife and her wise counsel and prayer, gave me the strength to make the decision.
I applaud the author for this very heart wrenching yet heart warming story that really shows that God is in the midst of all the aspects of Motherhood, including Teen Pregnancies and Infertility. The book is fictional yet it has topics that are real life situations. The journey to Motherhood is so different for everyone, yet can be connected in many ways. I really LOVE the fact that this story is written with a Christian Perspective. Have your Tissue ready when reading this book, you will definitely need it. I will definitely be reading more of Christina Suzann Nelson's book. I HIGHLY recommend this book to anyone who enjoys Christian Contemporary Fiction and want to read a book that shows the journey of Motherhood for the different characters in this book! The Deep End of Love is a truly magical, moving story about love, motherhood, families, hard choices, and regrets. It tells an ultimately single story through the eyes of five women: Izzy (pregnant teen), Jillian (her mother), Margaret (father of the father of Izzy's baby), Stacey (married and wanting to adopt), and Irene (housemother at the home for teen moms).
Each woman was depicted beautifully, with a backstory, personality, good points, and flaws. Each was unique and had her own perspective on what was happening. I enjoyed viewing pregnancy, motherhood, and adoption from each perspective. It was enlightening to see how each woman's past shaped her (and her attitudes) into the person she was now.
In addition to being an excellent character study, the plot of the book was gripping. Following Izzy's journey, evolving worldview, and decisions kept my interest throughout. I thought I knew where the story was going (and that IS where it eventually ended up) but there were some unexpected detours and surprises along the way.
I found the book to be very emotionally involving. I cried both happy and sad tears at different points while reading.
There are strong faith elements as well, as each woman addresses her faith (or lack thereof), how it affects the current situation, and how it can grow and evolve. I appreciated this honest look at faith and how it plays into life and major decision-making.
I will add some trigger warnings in case one of these affects you. This book includes abortion, infertility, and deaths of children (both infants and older). It was all handled with care and thoughtfulness and fit perfectly into the story.
My recommendation: Read this one, and prepare for a beautiful, worthwhile, emotional roller-coaster ride!

Izzy is pregnant. She’s only a junior in high school. How will she manage this? Who can she turn to for love and support? Does she even want to have this baby? What are her options?
Stacey and her husband are battling infertility and loss. They want a child. So desperately they yearn for one. But at every turn, it feels like they’re being told no and their dreams will never come true.

Margaret is a mother, but she feels like she’s a failure at it. She wants to reconnect with her son. But she doesn’t know how.
And then we have Jillian, who has a secret that threatens to destroy or tear down everything, including her marriage.

Some books entertain you. Others leave a mark on your heart. The Deep End of Love does both. It is one I'll never forget, or stop recommending.
As an adoptive parent who's simultaneously walked roads of loss and adoption, this story touched many places in my heart. To say I ugly cried through the ending would be a complete understatement. This story will linger with me for a long time, in the best of ways.
The Deep End of Love is just that, an immersive dive into a parents' love for their child and the rich love of a heavenly Father for His children. This story broke my heart, only to gently piece it back together with reminders of God's goodness, the gift of new life and the immeasurable value of every child. It was emotional, raw and deeply life-giving. Christina Suzann Nelson has written a profoundly moving story that captures both the heartbreak and the beauty found in lives forever changed by difficult circumstances.
Woven throughout the novel are themes of foster care, adoption, teen pregnancy, abortion, pregnancy resource centers, grief, loss of child, failed adoption, found family, and faith. Those are weighty topics, yet Nelson handles each one with incredible compassion and grace. She doesn't shy away from pain or broken realities, but she also never loses sight of hope that can be found amidst it. This story, though fictional, reflects how God creates beauty from ashes and writes redemption into even the most broken places and situations.
If you've been touched by unplanned pregnancy, adoption or foster care—or simply love stories that point to hope, healing and the redemptive heart of God—I cannot recommend this one enough.

The Deep End of Love is just that, an immersive dive into a parents' love for their child and the rich love of a heavenly Father for His children. This story broke my heart, only to gently piece it back together with reminders of God's goodness, the gift of new life and the immeasurable value of every child. It was emotional, raw and deeply life-giving. Christina Suzann Nelson has written a profoundly moving story that captures both the heartbreak and the beauty found in lives forever changed by difficult circumstances.
Woven throughout the novel are themes of foster care, adoption, teen pregnancy, abortion, pregnancy resource centers, grief, loss of child, failed adoption, found family, and faith. Those are weighty topics, yet Nelson handles each one with incredible compassion and grace. She doesn't shy away from pain or broken realities, but she also never loses sight of hope that can be found amidst it. This story, though fictional, reflects how God creates beauty from ashes and writes redemption into even the most broken places and situations.
If you've been touched by unplanned pregnancy, adoption or foster care—or simply love stories that point to hope, healing and the redemptive heart of God—I cannot recommend this one enough.

Such an unexpected journey! This was my first time reading anything by Christina Suzann Nelson and it certainly won’t be my last. You’ll be drawn in and invested within the first few pages.
This story is told from multiple points of view and layered with deep, raw and gritty Christian elements. This story takes on topics of abortion and adoption, mistakes, regret, grief, love and loss. While this is heavy, it’s also incredibly redeeming and brimming full of God’s grace, mercy and hope. Grab some tissues – you’ve been warned!
Izzy Cline is a star athlete on her high school’s swimming team. When she finds herself pregnant, her life begins to spiral. Izzy was raised in a Christian family, and her pregnancy sends shockwaves through those who know and love her. Each narrated point of view in this story comes from someone connected to Izzy’s life in one way or another. I can’t really say too much without giving away spoilers. Discovery of each character, their secrets, their hurt and their own personal journeys are what make reading this book such a beautiful experience.

And, she's pregnant. She keeps the pregnancy hidden for as long as she can. But her mother's sharp eyes notice her changing body after Izzy can't muster the energy to swim for her usual first place. Jillian would have done anything for her daughter never to have experienced this. But now she has. And the struggle between them is painful to watch. For Jillian has her own secrets.
As do Margaret, Travis's mother. And Irene, the house mom of the home where pregnant teens live. And last, Stacey, who's experienced her own brand of new baby loss. Each one of these women is impacted by Izzy, and her unborn baby. And each one's wounds might enable her to open her heart to Izzy...or those wounds might keep those hearts' doors slammed shut.
The Deep End of Love is magnificent, sorrowful, joyful. Christina Suzann Nelson's characters are just so captivating. I could not put this book down, even when the tears it caused as I read were dripping down my face! But don't take that to mean that the book itself is sorrowful. No, it's REAL. And it's well worth your reading!

Have the tissues ready for this novel. This is a story that is really bittersweet, heart wrenching, and faith filled all at the same time. It is a look at mistakes that define us, and not just us but those around us, and how do we move on afterwards.
This story is told in four women's point of views, and the author masterfully had me feeling for each one, for different reasons. All of their pain and worries were palatable. This is a story of a young girl who gets pregnant, her mother who is confronted with her own past, the mother of the father and all of her shortcomings, and another woman who is carrying around a deep hurt.
All of these women were relatable. This was a highly emotional driven novel that does deal with real world consequences and some sad endings, but hope filled beginnings. Read it with tissues.

Well I did not see THAT coming! And no, I’m not saying nuthin’ about it, you’ll just have to read this book for your own self. I promise you won’t be disappointed.
Sometimes it takes this reader a “minute” to shift gears from one book to another, and (especially reading at bedtime when I’m sleepy) keeping up with some of the different characters threw me at first. But that’s me, not the book.
Each of the characters—Izzy, Jillian, Stacey, Margaret, Irene—has their own story to tell. And Ms. Nelson weaves them all into one compelling and heart wrenching story.
I especially loved that the book opened with Izzy, and the author brought the story full circle to its end with Izzy’s [SPOILER] ending.

What is it like to be a teenage girl with the world at your feet only to find out you are pregnant? What is it like to be a teenage boy with the hope of your family to be one of the first to go to college and have that destroyed over night? What is it like to be a parent of either of these teens and having your hopes for your child left in ashes?
Christina Suzann Nelson addresses this in a somewhat difficult book to read, but one I recommend. We don't always understand why some people make the decisions that they do. Nelson addresses that in her books. She just wants you to see the other side of the coin so we can make better choices in how we help the families caught up in a situation like this.
Do yourself a favor, go pick up this book, and not only enjoy the good writing, but also find Nelson's other titles and enjoy them also.

Wow, this is quite a story. I was drawn in immediately, and had a hard time putting it down. It didn’t take too long to figure out how the four different women were connected, but there were a few surprises along the way. I found myself rooting for one woman especially, and nearly cheered out loud when she finally did the right thing! One thing that annoyed me was something that also got me in another recent read—how can two people instantly recognize each other after a 20-year separation? I don’t see how that can happen! However, I really liked this book—even though I cried at the end.

This book is right up my alley. Gritty, raw, and heart-wrenching but filled with hope and redemption. I was blown away by how many aspects of this story mirrored my debut novel, Stronger than the Storm, that released April 28, 2026. At the top of that list - an unplanned teen pregnancy and a wife's twenty-year secret from her husband.
