Violet is a child adrift. She’s been pulled from her home to a different city in a different country. The lush, alien landscape of British Columbia holds no comfort. The kids at school see her as different, a target for bullying. Her stepfather is distant, working too many hours at the job that brought them here. Her mother, trying to hold everything together, is too preoccupied to see that it’s all slipping through her fingers. But there’s one thing that holds Violet’s attention. The tiny chrysalis she’s protecting, like she wishes she could be protected. But soon, all the alienation, all the casual indignities, will force Violet to escape her own prisons. Her incredible and horrifying transformation will give her the power to rescue herself from the choices of the people around her, to dark and deadly ends.
