This book was fantastic! Frank Turek and Phoenix Hayes do a wonderful job addressing social issues that are creating confusion in our culture and impacting the church and society today. It challenges the way people define their own truth and encourages readers to examine what aligns with Biblical truth.
I thought this book was well-researched, with a good mix of logic, history, and Scripture. It was easy to follow and understand, relatable, and had some great humor throughout. I loved the chapters that included how to fight for and against the war on family, on information, and on the mind.
I think it can be easy for anyone to fall into the culture wars going on in this world, and this book is a good reminder of the importance of holding on to God's truth. I think this is a timely read, and I highly recommend it!
I read most of this book on audio, narrated by the authors, and it was amazing!
Thank you, Harvest House, for sending me a copy of this book! All thoughts are my own.
This is an outstanding book and one of the best I’ve read on the topics addressed. Hayes and Turek present the most pressing issues affecting the Church and society today from a biblical worldview. The book is divided into three parts. •What Is Reality and Why Does it Matter? •Why Can’t I Make My Own Reality? •How Can I Live According to Reality?
The entire book is so well-researched and presented in a way that is approachable and understandable. I especially appreciated the sections on how to fight for biblical truth in all areas of life. Topics include: how to fight for the family, how to fight the information war, and how to defend the mind.
If you’ve enjoyed or wanted to read Carl Trueman and/or Rosaria Butterfield, you are sure to love this book and find it extremely compelling. I listened to the majority of the audiobook version read by the authors and can highly recommend it.
Thank you, Harvest House for a complimentary copy of this book!
With wit, candor, and solid biblical truth, Hayes and Turek tackle the cultural agendas du jour head-on. Their compelling arguments dismantle the facades of false realities (such as transgenderism) and invite the reader to both examine their own worldview and those of others around them as they seek to grab hold of reality—God’s created, unchanging, biblical reality. Even as they dismantle deception, Hayes and Turek provide a solid foundation on which to build a worldview that utilizes a biblical framework and goes a long way toward answering some of life’s hardest questions. Why are we here? Where did the universe originate? What is our purpose? What is truth? Read this book and you will walk away with truth to fight the war on reality.
Frank Turek, the respected Christian apologist, podcaster (Crossexamined.org), and campus speaker, along with co-author (previously unknown to me) Phoenix Hayes, inspired at least in part by the murder of Charlie Kirk (Kirk’s widow, Erika, contributed the foreword) take on the persistent and accelerating, yet ultimately futile, campaign of the secular left to distort and tear down reality for a worldview of their own liking and construction in “The War on Reality: Discovering Truth in a World That Celebrates Lies.” Turek was a spiritual mentor to Kirk and present at the Utah rally where he was murdered and in the vehicle that desperately sped to the hospital with the dying young activist. Turek’s several previous books have all championed for reality and truth, meaning Biblical truth (“Jesus said to him, ‘I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.’” – John 14:6). “The War on Reality” has the feel of a crusade for truth and reality.
The present enemy of truth and reality is not merely postmodernism or critical theory, but rather dark spiritual forces that seek to overturn and destroy. They may prevail in certain instances, the death of Kirk possibly being one, at least apparently, but truth and reality will out, and only God’s plan will prevail.
Turek and Hayes give an overview of the lies, misperceptions and distortions behind today’s celebrations and yearnings for alternative realities. They explain the incompatibility and illogic of these untruths. While this is necessary background, “The War on Reality” would have been better for this reader if it had assumed familiarity with these background matters. It’s too broad and deep a subject for an overview to capture adequately. The critical concept is the awareness that something is drastically amiss in the claims of new truth asserted by the secular left. The strength of “The War on Reality” is in Part 3 (How Can I Live According to Reality), which addresses directly the Christian response to various contemporary issues. It’s a book worth reading if you are discomforted by the extreme countercultural and nonsensical propositions demanded by the enemies of common sense and reality.
I always considered myself to be an active Christian. This book encouraged me to be more outspoken about what I really believe. It reminded me why it is not okay to just be silent as my society walks farther and farther away. Frank and Phoenix described how following Jesus means standing up for truth the way Jesus did. They pointed out the subtle and overt ways the prevailing philosophy is illogical at best and dangerous at worst. It is well written and both humorous and serious at the same time. I highly recommend that every Christian read this book!
Excellent new book that pulls together many different timely threads and ideas of what's happening in the broken world and why -- and then explaining how Christians must defend reality when it comes to the family, politics, identity and much more -- not just shrug things off so as to be winsome. It's well-researched and well-written while being very readable with respectable measures of sarcasm and humor every now and then. The audiobook is nicely narrated by the coauthor Phoenix Hayes in her New Zealand accent. Highly recommend!
How ironic that someone who cannot, and will not tell the truth about what happened on one of the most profound political disasters that has occurred in this country’s history, writes a book about lying! “Yank and bank”… come on Frank! Just stop talking. I don’t understand how people read for the sake of reading, not for understanding. Your description of what is happening in the back of the SUV is nearly impossible. This entire book, in my opinion, is pure fiction.
An excellent book that lays out the whole false world we live in thanks to Democrats and liberals is The War on Reality. The book also explains that the Bible's truth still holds and can help us understand what truth is. The book is well-written and narrated by the authors. I enjoyed listening to the book and the narration.
Phoenix and Frank exceptionally and clearly identify the deceitful ideologies and confusion that has been rampant in our culture. Every Christian committed to fulfilling their calling of making impactful disciples must read this book, and read it twice or three times over.
If you have been observing and truthful this book will reinforce what you already know especially if you are a Christian, a practicing Christian. If you’re new to this I recommend following the author and reading his books and listening to his podcasts I don’t have enough faith to be an atheist, also a very good book.
A must read that explains Christianity in a way I’ve never heard before. EXPLAINS HEAVEN AND HELL. EXPLAINS WHY WE ARE HERE. EXPLAINS A RELATIONSHIP TO OUR CREATOR.
