These best-selling authors have come together to offer you some sweet romance with some dark edges. The men in this collection love hard and fight even harder for what they need. Whether that's love, friendship or just pure satisfaction, there's something for everyone in To See About A Guy.
This is a pretty good collection the first story is a nice read and while there is another book this doesn't end on a cliffhanger which is a pet hate of mine. The second book however I'm not reading mainly because it will cost too much to continue on. As always with these collections it's a mixed bag some I liked more than others but ultimately it's free and it's not filled with already free books which are all cliffhangers like so many collections, so it's hard to complain plus 'Nightmare' I can't find individually only in this collection. While I gave all the books I read 3 stars I'm giving this collection as a whole 4 stars because it's so nice to find a collection like this.
More Than Friends - 3 stars.
Ryan's four year relationship with Brooke is finally over, he was never fully committed to it but now four weeks later he's struggling, he's forgotten how to be single after all they'd been together since they were both seniors at Jefferson High. Ryan's boss Paul drags him out for the night and they hook up with two women but Ryan's not really feeling the spark so maybe Drea's just not the woman for him. Anyway Ryan gives Drea a lift home and he meets her cousin Zach. I enjoyed this book and while there's nothing new or particularly deep here I liked both the characters and the way their relationship developed, I might even read the next book 'More Than Friends 2'
The Love of Wicked Men
Part one - free Part two - £2.28 for 71 pages Part three - £1.99 for 82 pages Part four - £1.99 for 85 pages Part five - £1.99 for 82 pages I don't know if this is the complete series or if there's more to come.
Nightmare - 3 stars
This wasn't a book I expected to find in a collection like this, I wasn't sure at first I was going to like this and nearly skipped past it, since I couldn't find this available anywhere else I had no synopsis to go on so the content took me by surprise. Jonathan, his husband Noah and their son Jayden are fleeing for their lives, they currently live in Sweden but Russia having bombed the hell out of Kiev has angered the Europeans and things are escalating, the Baltic countries are gone, bombs have fallen on Helsinki and war rages from the Black Sea all the way up to the Arctics and if Sweden falls what chance does their family stand when faced with Russia's 'family values' so they make the decision to flee heading for Switzerland. This is a difficult read at times but it is addictive, once I'd got past the first couple of pages I couldn't read fast enough, having said this I prefer a lighter read and a guaranteed HEA, there's no sex at all in is book but it is a moving story just not my usually read.
eXtreme Homecoming - 3 stars
Hunter Castille is a top motocross rider and his life is going well, or at least it appears to be but he's still hurting, the love of his life left in the middle of the night three years ago without a word, just a note for him to wake up to. Bastian has been stationed in Afghanistan for the last three years but now he's back and he wants Hunter For me this needed to be longer for it to fully work the issues here needed more time and space to sort out properly, it was all a little too rushed for my taste.
Bonded - 3 stars
Despite the fact that Chris wasn't totally happy or satisfied with his relationship with Philip it's still a blow when Philip breaks it off, especially considering that after three years Philip leaves a note for Chris to find when he returns from his business trip. Chris struggles to cope, not eating properly and spending way too much time at the gym, exhaustion is the only way he can get any sleep. It's at the gym where he meets first Greg and then Liam could Chris find what he's looking for with these two, could he fill the gap and find what he's been missing. This book isn't without its faults, I can't mention some without spoiling it but the main one for me was that it was just too short to deal with the issues raised but I liked the guys and I liked the story I just wanted more.
a mixed bunch. None of the stories left a deeper impression except for "Nightmare" which shook me to the core, the rest were nice and pleasant to read.
More Than Friends by Aria Grace - 3.5 The Love of Wicked Men Episode 1 by Brandon Shire - 3 Nightmare by Hans M Hirschi - 4.5 eXtreme Homecoming by Jennah Scott - 2.5 BONDED By Sara York (which is a threesome btw) - 3
I love anthologies. It’s a great way to learn about authors you haven’t read and revisit ones you have. All the stories in this one were unique. I love Sara York and Aria Grace. I have read their stories before and loved them again. Hans M Hirschi really has me thinking with his. Man was I happy with the ending but it does make you wonder. I wasn’t as fond of Brandon Shire’s story simply because I couldn’t get attached to the main characters. Maybe after reading the other episodes I will. Overall I highly recommend this anthology. Great mix of authors with very different reads.
Anthologies can be a great way to be introduced to new authors. However, if these stories are any indication of the quality of writing these authors represent, DO NOT BUY any books from these writers. These were some of the most poorly written stories I have read in quite some time. The individual stories were poorly proofread with many grammatical, punctuation, and spelling errors. There is also a lack of cohesion within some of the tales. There is not a single story that would make me want to read anything further from these authors.
Interesting collection of stories I read until I couldn't read any more. Each story hold my attention at no time was I bored. This collection of authors are now being followed by me.
I just have to comment on one of the stories: Nightmare...
Well, it was a fucking nightmare alright... of literary and general stupidity of the author. That bloke is supposed to be older than thirteen, but hasn't even grasped the concept of minimal research for a story. There is no "letting go" if you have a urethral catheter.... No doctor would tell you that the only thing left of your husband is his ringfinger and a jawbone - though I must say that whole scene made me crack up with uncontrollable and unbelieving mirth! Further more: Who the fuck would break their pets neck - without protest or hesitation - after a cabbie refuses to transport them - in wartime - and pay 2000 dollars for that service, instead of stealing a car, after already having stolen a boat beforehand?! That all of that turned out to actually be a nightmare - as in bad dream - is no excuse for such idiocy.
There is a post on his Goodreads profile page, that asks him how he convinces himself that something is good enough "to be let loose on the world". He answered genuinely that people, he sends his manuscripts to, tell him so... Well, I (don't) hate to break it to him, but those people are either complete imbeciles or too nice to tell him that he sucks at storytelling and that he should spare the world his pathetic attempt at creativity!
Shit, at least that drivel was good for some laughs of Schadenfreude (because that guy must be some kind of stupid).
Anthologies are a great way to discover new authors. Although I had already read "More Than Friends" by Aria Grace, I read it again. Great story. I am happy with the HFN ending but I will still probably read the next. "The Love of Wicked Men Episode 1" by Brandon Shire was not what I was expecting. Not really sure what characters to like or dislike. It was still intriguing and suspenseful. I think I would like to know where it is going. What can I say about "Nightmare" by Hans M Hirschi? WOW. Heart-wrenching. Thought provoking. Different. "eXtreme Homecoming" by Jennah Scott is a more familiar style of M/M romance. "BONDED" By Sara York is an emotional and sexy story of self discovery. Could have been better expanded to a full book. Good but I wanted more. All in all an enjoyable read. I was impressed that it was free and was a lot more than just a taste, sampler or a bunch of cliffhanger series starters.
As with all anthologies, there were some stories I like better than others. In this case, I'm glad I kept on reading through a couple of stories that I didn't particularly enjoy to get to Sara York's story. It was tender and yet sext as three men help each other through their problems. The first story was also relationship based, which was my second favourite. The second tale, would have been a top contender, but I didn't like the way it ended as if at the end of a chapter, not a complete story.I did enjoy the way the author spun the characters around, the guys you think have 'white' or 'black' hats are all somewhat grey. The war one left me with a 'really?' feeling of disappointment. Overall for a freebie, some decent stories of M/M and in one case M/M/M relationships.
The first two stories I have already read and reviewed on their original site. Both very good stories. The next two stories were ok but I really liked the story by Sara York. Chris, Liam and Greg make a great family. I would have liked a full story even better. I think Phillip needs too see Chris happy and they really need to deal with this issue of Liam's parents. If they don't want him to be apart of their lives, then why keep writing him or visit him? The are some serious issues here.
Three stars only for The Love of Wicked Men that I'd already read. More Than Friends was a little too YA for me (even though the guys were in college). Nightmare didn't seem to fit in at all with the other stories in this collection and wasn't my cup of tea. Extreme Homecoming was largely skipped because it seemed too YA for me also. And Bonded wasn't for me because of the sub/dom thing. At least this one was free from Amazon. The writing was good, I just didn't care for the majority of the stories.
All of these stories were so different and each of the authors was wonderful. I've read works by both Ms. York and Ms. Grace, so they were the main reason I'd purchased this selection. Now I've been introduced to three new-to-me authors. I can't wait to read more from each!
Nightmare by Hans M. Hirschi left me speechless. It was so good that I had to take a long while to process it all. The events are so true to life and hanging in our very real world that it was overwhelming at moments. I almost went to check my TV to assure myself that I was reading fiction. Highly recommended book and Author All read
I'll be adding other reviews as I finish each story
More than friends: 3 stars The Love of Wicked Men E1: DNF Nightmare: very interesting read! it moved me to tears! 3.5 stars eXtreme Homecoming: 1.5 stars... oh my that one was schmalzy... Bonded: 1 star because I didn't feel any chemistry between them. more telling than feeling.
These stories were hard to get through; the writing was mediocre and the stories uninteresting. I kept putting the book away and returning to it, just because not a single character was worth reading through for.
