From Tax Clerk to Tavern Owner
John Longthorpe has spent most of his life following orders. First as a soldier, then as a tax clerk. Now, he wants something a tavern of his own.
When a distant uncle dies and leaves him a run-down property in the west, John seizes the chance to build something for himself. Only one problem - he has absolutely no idea how to run a tavern.
To earn the Tavern Owner class, John’s gonna have to learn everything from brewing ale and cooking meals, to managing staff, crafting furniture, and keeping customers happy. Or at least, stopping them from complaining.
One skill at a time, the empty plot becomes the cozy tavern he’s always dreamed of. And he won’t be building it alone.
There’s a wandering goblin bard looking for a place to put roots. A troublemaking young guy who needs to change his ways. Strangely fertile soil. Good food, better drinks, new friends to share them with. And, of course, a tavern that grows bigger and busier with every upgrade.

Great Read
I really enjoyed this book. It was exactly what I was looking a nice, light, cozy read that let me escape for a bit. I love reading books like this in between my heavy reads. It truly relaxed me like I was living in the small town watching all the characters carry on. I loved how well fleshed out all the characters were and how focused John was on his dream; I loved how the author didn't just throw him into a romance/relationship keeping him and his dream the main focus. Not every main character/ book needs an upfront romance to keep it interesting, and this book proved it for me. I liked how the author teased it between John and Rebecca, but then its like they remained friends; almost like how her value as a true friend outweighed the romantic inkling that might have been. Im definitely ready for book 2 and the brewing competition.

It is cozy!
As the Brits say, “it’s what is says on the tin”. This is a cozy, slice of life litrpg. It’s not heavy (crunchy) on the litrpg and it doesn’t have piles of action (nor should it). Just when I thought it was going to turn to the trope of having a huge deadline that hangs over the MC and provides motivation it neatly avoided it.
It’s well written and a good book. Worth a read!
