Mayet Justice #22

Dancing In The Dark

Rate this book
Homicide detective Charlie Fletcher is a man intimately familiar with wanting things he can’t keep.

A faithful ex-wife.

A bank account that stays out of the red.

An apartment with a working AC and fewer vermin.

A daughter whose little heart doesn’t hurt so damn much.

And then there’s Seraphina Lewis.

The mayor’s assistant. A classically trained dancer. Every filthy fantasy Charlie has ever had, and pure temptation wrapped in pencil skirts and sharp heels.

She’s elegant, polished, and everything his life isn’t.
But that doesn’t stop him from wanting her anyway.

For years, they’ve orbited each other. Close enough for obsession. Not quite close enough to satisfy it.
Charlie’s spent too long watching Sera from a distance, starving for something he can never have.

Just one taste.
One night.
One lifetime.

It doesn’t feel like too much to ask.

But Charlie’s daughter adores Sera, and for the first time in her five-year-old life, she has a woman who loves her the way a mother should.

If Charlie gives in to the temptation simmering between them and ruins it the way he ruins everything else, it won’t just cost him the woman he wants.

It’ll shatter his daughter’s heart too.

This review has been 20 plus books in the making. I have wanted these two to get their shit together since we first saw them interact.

Mia steals the entire book. She is a funny, charismatic, spitfire of a child and she has decided her two favorite people must be together. I mean - the way she fakes sick when the dad of a classmate is trying to flirt with Sera? Child genius.

Fletch’s need to be the best dad and best detective is admirable, but he realizes quickly that he’s got to make some changes if he wants to make this work with Sera.

I love getting a peek into our Fifi’s mind. She tries to portray a tough as nails, don’t care attitude but her childhood really did a number on her. She’s got tons of insecurities that make her more human than we have ever seen her in the series.

I kept changing my guess on who Fletch was doing side gigs for and never guessed it once 😂

I am also loving the little sneaks of how good Cato is with Mia and the look into his mind really shows me the maturity he was gained.

Overall, this was perfect. Everyone’s really just pairing off into their own little families but they are all one big extended family.

I look forward to seeing them happy and settled and getting back into the whole Cordoza story.

Worth the Buildup!

Emilia is a master storyteller, and this is no exception! She has been weaving the back story for Charlie and Sera for so long, and the pay off was worth it (and so hot)! As expected, Mia steals all her scenes. Seeing her with her FiFi warmed my heart, and seeing her gaining confidence with the love of her dad and all the adults around her is so special. Absolutely loved the meddling Malones and quick drop in from Sophia. Thank you, Emilia, for giving us such an amazing book from start to finish!

finally! fifi and fletch’s story is told

Loyal Emilia Finn fans have been waiting patiently for this story to be told. It. Was. Worth. The. Wait. These two beautiful souls have both faced pain and trauma and it seemed like they may never get to embrace each other the way we wanted them to. Their story was amazing and beautiful. And Mia? Good lord almighty that girl is simply the best of the best. Finn made the book even more fun with some surprise POV chapters.
I loved absolutely everything about this book. It fit perfectly into the Copeland universe. Bravo, Ms. Finn!!!

Fletch and Fifi…Finally!!

This book has been a long time coming and let’s just say it was worth the wait!! Finally seeing Fletch and Fifi get their HEA was worth all the heartache they had to go thru to get there!! Also can we just say that Mia is the coolest 5 year old around she absolutely stole the show as always!! Loved everything about this book and can’t wait to see more of their story throughout Minka and Archer’s books!!

absolute masterpiece

We finally got a Fifi and Fletch(and moo) book! I’ve never been so excited to finally see what plays out for them! I love how loved Mia moo is! And seeing Sera’s back story made me very sad for her! I sure did love the ending though! So glad to see the Malone family embracing their adopted brother so well, and in turn their niece and Sera! Thank goodness MiaMoo got her dance on! 🩰🧑🏻‍🩰

Another 5-star masterpiece

Emilia Finn is a must-read author. Trying to pick a favorite series is like asking someone to pick their favorite child: they say they love them equally, but one of them is always the favorite, even if the favorite changes moment to moment. For right now, the Mayet series is my favorite.

It’s been a little while since I’ve had to stop reading a book because I was laughing too hard at what a character said or did. That happened often with the long-anticipated Fifi & Fletch connection in “Dancing in the Dark”. I enjoyed this book so much that I’m about to start it back over and reread it.

There were several unexpected twists in the crime plot, but it was all resolved satisfactorily by the end of the book without feeling rushed.

The primary focus was the connection between Serafina Lewis and Charlie Fletcher. Finally seeing these characters get together was a balm to my heart. The tragedies in their back stories makes their love even sweeter. And Mia? Ugh. That sweet girl is just too much in just the right way.

Another amazing read from Emilia Finn. I can’t wait for the next one.

Another fantastic must read book!

I was absolutely hooked on this author's books from the very first book I read, and they've just continued to get better and better! If you haven't already, I would highly recommend reading all of this author's work, beginning with The Rollin On series. Most of her series are connected together with various characters and groups, which you'll love. Emilia Finn was quickly added to my favorite authors, and her stories became some of my all-time favorites!

This story is one that those who have been reading this series has waited on, which seems like forever. However, there are many unexpected twists, as well as some of the mysterious pasts, that continues to get in between these two. It's an intriguing, hilarious, and highly emotional story that you certainly won't want to miss!

I would definitely recommend this book, series, and exceptional author.

🥳🥳🥳

I’d been waiting all year for Fifi and Fletch’s book. I even had a countdown on my phone.
And when the release date finally arrived, I was afraid to start reading. What if it wasn’t the story I’d been waiting for - the one I’d been piecing together ever since Fletch and Fifi first met?

I’m so damn glad my fears were unfounded. "Dancing in the Dark" is everything I’d hoped and wished for - and so much more.

I don’t even need to mention the writing style or the supporting characters - it’s just as perfect as the 21 books that came before it. Thank you, Emilia! ❤️

And now I’m trying to figure out what to do with the rest of my life...

P.S. I hope Fletch, Fifi and Moo don’t get sidelined in the upcoming installments either 😉

Basically, it's a standalone, but to get the full experience and understand the backstory, I really recommend that you read the entire series. You won't regret it 🥰🥰

Finally finished dancing in the dark! I hate when adult responsibilities make it to where I can’t just binge read like I wanted, otherwise I think I would have had it done in a day😅. Some books when there’s such a build up there can be a letdown when we finally get to read it, that was so NOT the case with this one! I loved it so much, without giving any spoilers…getting inside the brain of fletch and fifi just made me love their characters so much more, what they endured to get to where they were throughout this book and the end of it was so freaking good and naturally an emotional roller coaster. I also don’t think I’ve ever hated an antagonist as much as I hated the one in this book! But lice that he got knocked down several pegs throughout and at the end.
Of course Mia totally stole the show though😉. That little girl is going places with everyone she has in her corner❤️.

Family

Dancing In The Dark, another long awaited installment to the Mayet Justice series, of course it did not disappoint. For me this book was about Family. Found family, finding your people, making them yours and keeping them. I loved the development of Charlie and Sera's relationship, the innocent love between Fifi and Mia and how they were able to heal deeps wounds in the other. Charlie and Archer keeping secrets from each other puts their long standing friendship in question. Cato is back at it with is role a fun Uncle, the banter between Cato and Mia is hilarious. Without spoiling, a surprise relationship surfaces in the end. An amazing story, a few tears and an HEA. What more could you ask for.

Emilia Finn has done it again!

Every time I think there is no way she could out do the last book and then she does!!!
I have loved Charlie and Sera from the first time they met. I loved how Sera fell in love with Mia. And now to finally have them get the happy ending is so sweet. Cato was so funny! And man that ending with Felix….ahhhh I love him so much. Can not wait for the next!!!!

Definite Must

I have looked so forward to reading this book!!! F & F are made for each other! Rollercoasters have nothing on them. It's crazy to read how much shit they go through, but this book doesn't disappoint. Felix Malone and his protective, brotherly-loving ways are just the icing on the cake. I am especially happy that Mia Moo Moo Charlotte Fletcher found her dance stage. This book is an absolute MUST READ!!!-

𝐃𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐢𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐃𝐚𝐫𝐤 is the 22nd book in the Mayet Justice series by Emilia Finn, featuring the much-anticipated story focused on Fletch and Fifi!! This book was everything I could have dreamed of and more!! So many emotions, the hot passion I knew would explode someday, drama and twists, and so many battles over who could steal the scene!🤣 While I cherish Archer and Minka’s relationship, this series is full of compelling characters ready to take over at the drop of a hat! If little Mia doesn’t melt your heart, you may need a medical evaluation.😉 Between her and Cato, I was thoroughly entertained. Those Malones are beyond special. Let me just say that Felix also made an impression, as always. I loved every minute of this one, and can’t wait for whatever comes next!

Fifi & Fletch! OMG, So excited for the way this book went down. Though I suspected on how it would but, this was so much better. I hate to say this but, I am so invested with this series. I can't put them down anytime one pops out of Emilia Finn's imagination! Gawd, Mia and Cato's affections are everything too.

Fifi & Fletch 4ever

I feel like I’ve been waiting forever for this book. Don’t read if you haven’t read the first 20 something books. It was so awesome to see the whole family again. FiFi is such a good mom. Fletch has a dirtier mouth than I thought. The heroes always save the day. Happily ever afters. I hope this series never ends.

Fletch and FiFi!!!

Fletch and FiFi were definitely worth the wait! I love their story so much. And Mia! She is so sweet and adorable and fierce and sad all at the same time. She loves so hard and holds a grudge so well. That scoundrel Mayor! I'm so glad Charlie and Serafina finally found their way through their nonsense and got together.

Don't worry your pretty little head. :)

You'll find all the feels possible in this book, this world, that Emilia Finn has built. My only request is next time we get more Moo, "Alfred" and monopoly money.
