I received a complimentary copy of this book.
The Centenary Deluxe Edition of "The Kybalion" has a feeling of being a restoration of both something old and new; the additional depth added to this edition allows the readers to find resonance with the material that was impossible to obtain from the original work. Marc Powers' Foreword is particularly interesting because his portrayal of William Walker Atkinson as a man whose life was formed by emotional disintegration, spiritual transformation, and relentless intellectual curiosity brings humanity to teachings which are too frequently viewed as abstract metaphysical concepts. Perhaps the most impressive additions were the contextual frames provided for the Principle of Vibration. In these contextual frames, he connected the thought of Hermeticism to early atomic theory and even to current neuroscientific research. This provides the reader with a continued thread of connection between mystic traditions and contemporary scientific understandings. Additionally, the notes provide insight into the less obvious structural choices made throughout the text — such as how the rhythmic repetition within the Chapter on Rhythm parallels (mirrors) the law it describes, resulting in a cadence which can be perceived as meditative. The editions pace is deliberately slow so as to invite the reader to read slowly and reflect upon what they have read. The design elements used for this edition — archival photographs, elegant typography and ample margin space — create an environment of reverence. It is not simply a reissue — it is an intentional experience created by someone who respects the history of Hermetic Philosophy, but still wants to make it available to a person today who wishes to connect with clarity but does not want to lose their mysticism.

The Kybalion has been a mystical or spiritual text for many years; this new edition is an improvement from previous editions due to the added visual appeal (the color of the cover) and the intellectual/emotional connection that is created when one reads about the history behind the text. A completely new addition to the readership experience is the expanded historical introduction, particularly the segment discussing Atkinson's partnership with Premananda Baba Bharati – an unlikely collaboration which influenced much of the cross-cultural perspective on metaphysics he would later write about in his other books. In addition to enhancing the readers experience, the notes also allow the reader to engage further with the principle of correspondence and provide examples of how the well-known phrase "as above, so below" can be seen in Renaissance alchemy, the Corpus Hermeticum, and some modern models of inner/outer alignment. I found the section on Atkinson's own personal loss and how those experiences were used to develop mental transmutation most moving. After reading this section, I felt that the principle of mental transmutation went from being simply a theoretical concept based upon spiritual principles to a living, breathing example of surviving and transforming. The format and layout of the edition are clean and simple, with each principle presented in two ways - first as a metaphysical law and then as a usable tool for the individual; and while the comments do not make significant changes to what Atkinson wrote, they help to illustrate how Atkinson's use of precise and poetic language was intended to stimulate thought. Overall, this is a book that asks the reader to slow down, take a few breaths and let the words settle. It is a book that provides the feeling of having spiritual lineage in your hands – carefully restored, reverently given.

I went into reading this book thinking I would be looking at an antiquated and dry treatise, however, what I got was a sort of cryptic hand shake across all time periods. That is truly the highest praise. The writing within this edition is surprisingly clear for a 1908 document. And I feel that Marc Power has done a great job of making William Walker Atkins' (the authors) identity known while keeping the mystique around the content intact. Each principle is written in such a way that they seem almost modern. Most striking was Atkinsons' confidence when he wrote these principals. He seemed confident that he was giving you the ultimate key to unlock your potential. By the time I finished the chapter on rhythm, I am fairly certain he may have been correct. Specifically, the part on mental gender completely reframed many concepts I had previously seen in psychology texts as being both much older and much more strange. The axioms at the end of the book are the type of statements you would underline and refer back to over and over again. While I found some of the repeated warnings against considering oneself "half wise" to be somewhat annoying, and there were times when Atkinsons would get a little too big for his britches that would make me chuckle, they were minor complaints to a book that seems to have genuinely insightful things to say. It is not a book you can simply read once and forget. Rather, it is a book that you will fight with, test, and eventually absorb into yourself. I enjoyed it more than I thought I would and I believe it will continue to stay with me.

If I was asked what I enjoyed most about reading The Kybalion by William Walker Atkinson, it would be how the book gave me a different way of looking at my thoughts and everyday experiences. After receiving a complimentary copy, honestly, I found it to be a fascinating read. If you’re curious about spiritual philosophy or enjoy books that make you stop and question the way you think, this one offers plenty to think about. Originally published under the pseudonym The Three Initiates. The idea that “The ALL is Mind” really stood out to me, and I found myself thinking about some of the principles even after putting the book down. The concepts can be quite deep, but I appreciated having practical ideas to reflect on rather than simply reading abstract philosophy. I came away feeling both thoughtful and grounded, and I’d recommend it to anyone interested in spirituality, philosophy, or developing greater awareness of their own mindset because it presents seven principles of Hermetic philosophy, including the Principles of Vibration, Polarity, and Mental Transmutation.

Some parts are definitely deep and require slowing down and reading them more than once.
It feels less like a book you simply finish and more like one you return to whenever you need a different perspective.
Whether you fully accept its philosophy or simply read it as a fascinating exploration of consciousness, there is plenty here to think about.
Overall, it’s an intriguing and thought-provoking read that left me looking at everyday life with a much more curious mind.

It talks about the mind, life, change, opposites, cause and effect, and the idea that everything is connected. I liked that the book made me stop and think about my own feelings and the way I see the world. My favorite idea was the Principle of Polarity. The message that fear and courage, sadness and happiness, or hot and cold can be different degrees of one thing is very interesting. It gave me hope because it says we can slowly change our state of mind.

This book offers a surprisingly clean and organized framework for understanding esoteric philosophy. The "Seven Hermetic Principles" especially the Law of Attraction (Polariity) and Mental Transmutation are broken down into simple terms without excessive mystical jargon. It really makes you rethink how your mind shapes your everyday reality.

So I'm not sure this is the book for me. It was interesting. It explained the seven principles of Hermetic Philosophy. But I found it difficult to understand. I also found it more of an overview than anything of substance. The most interesting parts to me were the axioms pulled from the much older book of the same name.

The Kybalion is a fascinating exploration of Hermetic philosophy and the seven cosmic laws. I found its ideas about mentalism, correspondence, and cause and effect thought-provoking. The annotated edition makes the concepts easier to understand and gives more context to the original teachings. A great read for anyone interested in philosophy, spirituality, and self-development.

This book offers a unique perspective on the principles that supposedly govern life and the universe. Some of the ideas require careful reflection, but that is part of what makes the book interesting. The explanations and annotations add useful insight and make the material more approachable. Overall, it was an intriguing and thought-provoking read.

I enjoyed reading The Kybalion because it encourages you to look at life, thoughts, and personal actions from a different perspective. The seven cosmic laws provide plenty to think about, especially the connection between mindset and circumstances. The annotated format was helpful in making some of the older concepts clearer.

An interesting and thought-provoking book that introduces readers to Hermetic philosophy through seven central principles. I liked how it encourages reflection on the relationship between thoughts, actions, and the world around us. The annotations make the book easier to follow and give additional context. Definitely worth exploring for readers interested in philosophy and spirituality.

I'd recommend it to anyone curious about where ideas like "as above, so below" or "everything is vibration" actually came from, rather than just encountering them secondhand in pop spirituality. Not a difficult read, but one worth sitting with slowly rather than rushing through.

The Kybalion is an interesting exploration of Hermetic philosophy and the laws believed to shape the universe. It offers deep ideas about the mind, energy, and personal growth. Some concepts are complex, but the book encourages reflection and a different way of viewing life.

Interesting ideas, but some claims feel too certain, especially the ancient origins and mental powers. Still, it made me think about how thought acts.
