Nine years ago, federal agent Samantha Moon was the perfect wife and mother, your typical soccer mom with the minivan and suburban home. Then the unthinkable happens, an attack that changes her life forever. And forever is a very long time for a vampire.

Friend or nemesis? Forgiveness or judgment? Life or death?

Now, in the short story, VAMPIRE REQUIEM, private investigator Samantha Moon gets up close and personal with her dead ex-husband’s mistress, Nancy, who might be a woman who knows too much.

When Nancy opens up to Sam about her history with Danny, Sam tries to forgive her and move on with her life, maybe even be friends. After all, Danny didn’t play it straight with either of them.

Despite her good intentions, something rises up in Sam, something dark and evil, and something that she can barely keep under control. As Sam’s bloodlust builds to a head, Nancy gets herself into trouble. Big trouble.

Will Sam be able to control her hunger and reach Nancy in time to save her from a terrible fate?

Well

Well this is more like the Samantha we know and love. She behaved true to character. More believable than in "Moon Dragon"

This was a very short story that gives some closure to the Nancy/Sam storyline. While she is still struggling with her inner demon (or inner vampire?), she is definitely still a force to be reckoned with. I like where this seems to be headed, and this short story was just what I needed to want to jump back into this series.

This story starts with a very strange yet pleasant interaction between Nancy and Sam. Sure, most people wouldn’t want to hang out with their ex-husband’s widow girlfriend, but Sam is definitely not most people. These two have a very tentative truce, but that’s put to the test when Sam gets a frantic text from Nancy indicating that she’s in some very real trouble.

While not everyone gets out of this story alive, it definitely helped me further wrap my head around the strange relationships Sam has. I like her quirkiness and her determination to fight the “evil” inside of her. I’ll be picking up the next book in the series as soon as I can.

Great short read

I really enjoyed reading this short story. Sam investigated a case and takes down one not quite so different as her, though much much different as far as his motives go.

You get to see the dark side of Sam in this outing. The choice to not do evil is something that is chosen every day. And sometimes when you slip, you go back to the beginning and start again. Interesting story. Glad she burned down the place.

These short stories are great

How do you deal with the woman who participated in your husband cheating? Samantha struggles with that issue and circumstances help guide her feelings.

Tied up a loose end from #10 and Sam burned down the strip club her ex-husband ran! Much better than 10 even though it's a short story.

Vampire Requiem by J.R. Rain

I was much honored to be chosen to pre-read this the latest in the Samantha Moon Story’s. I stumbled upon JR a while ago and promptly devoured every one of the then released Samantha Moon books; I fell in love with this character! He made her seem so normal, if being a Vampire can be called normal. This author has made Vampire Samantha feel like your next door neighbor, giving her all the trials and tribulations of a typical soccer mom. The author has also created a story that provides the reader with the why and how she became a Vampire, which all helps to make the character all the more interesting and believable. When I first researched the author, I was aghast; really the author was a male! How can that be, he writes from a woman’s perspective? This alone tells you the genius of the author; he has the ability to create believable characters.

In this the latest short story in the Samantha Moon series, Samantha finally gets a little revenge on her late husband by destroying his sordid business, but it’s so sad as in the process she loses a friend. Samantha continues to struggle with her inner demon, fighting to keep her humanity, which just makes her all the more bad ass to me. I loved this story line; my only complaint ever about JR is that it’s just not enough! I want longer stories; I hate to close the book. This is a must read, but be sure you have followed Samantha’s Journey from the beginning; otherwise you may be lost in this one. I give it as always 5 stars!

JR threw in a teaser, Chapter one in his Vampire series, the Spider Trilogy. Bad Blood A Vampire Thriller by J.R. Rain From my perspective, and from what I read so far, it appears to be a thrilling page turner. It takes great skill to conjure up these characters and bring them to life on the pages. Needless to say I went right on Amazon to download this one, stay tuned for my review.

I love the Vampire for Hire books by JR Rain and I love Samantha Moon- the full books. The short stories are good but don’t seem to have a lot of meat in them, not the gripping storyline the full books do. I suppose that is because they stand alone and don’t play an integral part of the total Sam Moon storyline that carries on through the full books. Yes, that’s a good thing but if you’re reading these short stories, it leaves you feeling a little disappointed- at least that’s my feeling. Those full books are so good, it’s hard to read about one of my favorite characters when it falls flat.

Vampire Requiem has Sam’s inner demon fighting to come forth while Sam continues to push against the black hearted she devil. I think this will be a struggle we see for a while to come, a tug of war where this evil is able to sneak out every once in a while, much to Sam’s chagrin. Sam is called to help a friend in need in this little story, hoping to get to her in time. When she does get there, it’s a very creative way she finds to deal with the attacker. I wouldn’t want to say anymore to give anything away, but Sam just has a way of making you love her, no matter what she does. Or actually, it’s Rain who works his magic in making us love Sam so much we can’t get enough of her.

No, this isn’t the best Vampire for Hire book, but since it is Samantha Moon, and JR Rain of course, I’ll read every book in the series, including these short stories.

Short and to the point. Sam finds and takes care of a new friend and closes a chapter of her past.

Only problem I have with the story is that Sam mentally goes over her inner struggles too much. It’s gets boring and annoying. But other than that the storyline was very satisfying.

Fave Scenes: Sam ‘attacking’ Nancy and the new vampire’s punishment.

Short story yuck. I only see Sam making a friend in the woman that was her ex hubby stripper lover. Sam doesn't like her much but still cares enough to check in on her to find her at a house not so good. Sam finds out who did this and takes vampire matters into her own hands. I don't really see the point of an extra book for for that little point.

I received an ARC in exchange for my honest review. J.R. Rain has done it yet again. I've loved "watching" Samantha change and grow from the very beginning and this book showed a whole new side of her. It was a very quick yet exciting read. Looking forward to the next one!

I have read all of the Samantha Moon series and have loved them all. This was a fairly short story showing a darker side of Sam. Great read.

Loved it!

Reading a short story with Samantha Moon is just not satisfying. It's like eating only a bite of exquisite chocolate and no more. I want more. This was very fun and quick to read. Oh, and seeing the beast inside is delicious.

As with all of the Samantha Moon books, this one was good. However, JR Rain really put the short in short story with this one! It could have been much longer, it felt a little rushed for my taste.
