Remy W. Anders

Remy W. Anders plays in the dirt, collects rocks and cool sticks, makes things, breaks things… and fixes some of them. It’s an approach that mirrors their unconventional story explorations of broken and found family, hope intertwining with grief, and despair marrying joy—all with an airplane usually in there somewhere.

When not conjuring hallucinations from ink and light, Remy educates on disability and human rights through social media and as a keynote speaker. Their work has garnered acclaim as a LinkedIn Top Voice of disability advocacy with a Silver Shorty Impact Award, two Silver Anthem Awards, and a collaboration with Kevin Bacon's Six Degrees organization. Follow them at @RemyW.Anders for compelling narratives and strategic insights that dismantle ableism and champion a more equitable world.

This book made me want to set the world on fire and then rebuild it softer. Mita’s rage, her humor, and her refusal to disappear as a disabled brown girl in a colonized sky is going to live in my head for a long, long time. I came for cool airplanes and tournament vibes and accidentally got gutted by a story about sisters, revolution, and survival.

While the heart-pounding visceral action kept me on the edge of my seat, it was Mita’s brilliantly abrasive force of will that had me devouring Scrapped Hope in a single sitting. I sat down to read a chapter or two, then three, then four—and soon I couldn’t put the book down. The stakes are massive, yet the story never loses sight of the individuals caught in the crossfire of corporate greed. You can tell the author genuinely cared about my experience as a reader, creating a world that is deeply well thought out and captivating. I felt invited behind the curtain, accepted into a community not my own, and moved by the process of others finding acceptance as well.

the other reviews are so well written I'm embarrassed to write one of my own and yet this book has pulled me completely in, encircles me, so that nothing else enters as I'm reading (oh, how i've longed for that recently) that i feel i must say something, anything. i have told people the author writes how i think (which i hope is the compliment i meant it to be... its just so easy to read, so inviting into a world where you get to feel the feelings, see the images, and understand the pain and the joy). our foster kittens however love the book a little more than planned and have pretty much destroyed the cover (which was hand designed by the author themself with metal, googles, and paint... another thing that awed me).

impressed that someone read in one sitting, i'm savoring, letting it fill my mind before i fall asleep.
