Braeburn Cliffs #2
The Grump I Slept With
The Hating Game
meets Knocked Up—with a grumpy billionaire Scot, a fake relationship, and one very inconvenient pair of pink lines.
It was supposed to be one night.
A reckless, alcohol-fueled mistake with an arrogant, insufferable Scot who looked like he’d stepped out of a gladiator fantasy and into my bed.
No promises. No strings. No future.
Then two little pink lines flipped my world upside down.
Now, Locke Fraser— billionaire developer, professional menace, and father of my unborn child—is back in town. And not for me. He’s got big plans for the little plot of land I used to call home—bulldozing my past to build a five-star, ultra-luxury boutique hotel.
Hard pass.
Except my father has an even worse betrayal selling the property to a corporation that wants to slap down a soul-sucking factory instead.
Suddenly Locke’s hotel is looking like the lesser evil.
And I hate that he knows it.
Enter Locke’s solution, delivered with that infuriatingly confident
We fake a relationship.
Play the blissfully-in-love couple.
Convince my dad the hotel is the lesser evil.
Save the land.
Simple. Strategic. Definitely no feelings involved.
Except pretending to adore a man who can melt me with a single look—and make me want to throttle him the next—turns out to be dangerously convincing.
And the longer we play house, the blurrier the lines get.
Does Locke want me…
or just the land beneath my feet?
And when did I start caring enough to risk my heart finding out?

“Sheep happen. You just have to roll with it.“
Leslie North’s The Grump I Slept With completely hooked me from the very first page, mostly because the banter between Isla and Locke is just so good. Their first meeting on that narrow, one-way road—stuck behind a sheep farmer—was absolutely hilarious and set the perfect tone for the rest of the book. I loved watching their messy, chaotic journey evolve from a wedding one-night stand into an unexpected pregnancy, then a fake relationship, and finally a real, messy kind of love.
What really made the story special for me, though, was the whole small-town vibe. The friendships and the way everyone rallies around each other brought a genuine sense of comfort to the entire plot.
Talk about an emotional ringer! My feelings were all over the place—pure happiness one minute, and total frustration the next whenever Locke made another head-scratching choice. Still, watching them navigate the highs and lows made the journey so incredibly rewarding.
The ending delivered everything I hoped for, and I absolutely cannot wait to jump right into Alistair’s book next.

He wants the land for a luxury hotel. She loves the land from her childhood. She is dealt a doubled blow. Her father wants to sell so a factory can be built. She doesn't like either choice, but the lesser of two evils is the hotel. But how does she convince her father? This is a great fake romance story that will keep you intrigued.

This is only my second time reading Leslie North, so I’m still getting a feel for her writing. That said, The Grump I Slept With left me with another positive impression and reminded me why I’m excited to keep exploring her books.
What stood out to me the most was Locke. At first, I assumed he would simply be another emotionally unavailable grump, but as the story unfolded, it became clear that beneath all that guardedness was someone desperately trying to protect his heart. I found that surprisingly relatable. Instead of coming across as cold for the sake of the trope, his actions felt rooted in fear, making his emotional journey much more rewarding.
Then there’s Isla, who quickly became one of my favorite parts of the book. She has such a calming presence without ever feeling like a flat “sunshine” heroine. She’s patient, warm, and grounded, and I loved how she challenged Locke simply by being herself. Their relationship developed through quiet moments, meaningful conversations, and small gestures that made their connection feel genuine.
I was a little disappointed to see the fake dating trope return after the first book, as I had hoped this installment would take a different direction. It didn’t stop me from enjoying the story, but it did make parts of the premise feel a bit familiar.
If I had one complaint, it would be the emotional payoff. After Locke’s initial reaction to something Isla tells him, I was fully prepared for him to work much harder to earn his way back into my good graces. I wanted more groveling, more yearning, and a stronger emotional payoff before everything was resolved. The ending was satisfying, but I couldn’t help wishing that particular part had been explored a little further.
Overall, this was a sweet, comforting romance with lovable characters, genuine emotional growth, and enough chemistry to keep me invested from beginning to end. It was a pleasure to read another Leslie North novel, and I’ll happily keep picking up her books whenever I need a romance that feels warm, heartfelt, and effortlessly enjoyable.

Another fab romance from North. From the start I loved Isla and her stubborn attitude, she was a great love interest. Locke was also great, especially his development as the book went on. I will read anything North puts out as she manages to find the perfect blend of romance, emotion and found family. A great read.

4.5 ⭐s Just what she doesn't need—another company owner workaholic!
Isla is on a mission. She's stepping in to take pictures at her best friend Lena's vow renewal ceremony with her husband, Weston. She just noticed she doesn't have any space on her camera's memory card for all the pictures she plans to take. There's no place in the village of Braeburn to buy one; she'll have to drive to Glenby.
The road to Glenby isn't very wide, and she soon meets a large SUV. She just needs that driver to move a bit closer to the ditch to let her by, but he refuses. He wants her to yield to his much larger vehicle. Normally she'd have no problem yielding, but it rained the night before and the road is still wet and the steep ditch is deep. It would be much harder to get her tiny car out of the ditch than his SUV, which he probably could drive right out of the ditch. Now, to compound the problem, a flock of sheep is approaching them. The sheep decide this is the spot they'll cross the road.
Locke Fraser, AKA Lord Poshpants or Bentley Boy, as she nicknames him, is soon surrounded by sheep more interested in nibbling at his shoelaces and trouser cuffs than crossing the road. He manages to insult the farmer accompanying them, sheep, causing more sheep to be summoned. Even worse, the sheep soon splash mud not only on his pristine SUV but also on him. He's already running late on his way to his friend Weston's vow renewal, and the sheep aren't helping matters. He hopes to never see that infuriating woman again! If he only knew that his friends, Weston and Alistair, are friends with that infuriating woman.
Isla owns and operates the Deerhound Inn in Braeburn. Her father, Dougal, owns the MacRae distillery and is selling the original distillery land. Both she and Locke want the land. She wants it for an artists' retreat. She was raised on that land until her mother moved to the US, taking Isla with her. She has so many memories of not only the land but also the waterfall that's also there. Her mother, Aileen MacRae, was considered to be one of the great modern Scottish artists. The waterfall was her favorite subject to paint. While Locke, president of Fraser Developments, wants to build another exclusive luxury destination for his company. However, an industrialist wants the land for a factory.
Dougal seems to be favoring the industrialist because of the jobs it will bring to the village. Besides, Locke insulted his favorite footy team at their first meeting. No one does that to Dougal! He's also refused to give the land to Isla or to even accept fair market price for the land. Surprisingly Dougal proposes that the village vote on the two choices. He will then sell the land to the winner. Imagine his surprise when Locke wins!
Both Isla and Locke were raised by absent fathers. Their fathers, Dougal MacRae and Graeme Fraser, were so busy building their empires for their children's futures that they missed their children's childhood. Both of their parents divorced. Isla was moved to the US with her mother, Aileen. Locke's mother, Nicola, had cheated on his father with a younger man. She even ran off with him, but it was a short-lived affair. She and Graeme never spoke to each other after the divorce. She also never saw or spoke to Locke again until he phoned asking for help.
Despite promises made to be there for and with Isla, it doesn't take long for him to put his company's needs before hers. To his shock, after their fathers apologize for past mistakes and begin to make amends, she ends the engagement!
It doesn't take long for Locke to regret his actions. But how can he get her back? He needs his mother, but after all their years apart and his snubbing her, will she help him?

The Hating Game meets Knocked Up—with a grumpy billionaire Scot, a fake relationship, and one very inconvenient pair of pink lines.
Hard pass.
Except my father has an even worse betrayal planned: selling the property to a corporation that wants to slap down a soul-sucking factory instead.
Suddenly Locke’s hotel is looking like the lesser evil.
And I hate that he knows it.
Enter Locke’s solution, delivered with that infuriatingly confident charm:
We fake a relationship.
Play the blissfully in love couple.
This contemporary grumpy sunshine billionaire enemies-to-lovers opposites attract romantic comedy is page-turning with exceptional world-building and characters who are an alpha billionaire bosshole exuding power/wealth/female heroine who is resilient; both are hilarious, captivating, and realistic. Their journey is enthralling with the grump I slet with in this fake relationship mature, explicit romance that is consumed by steamy, sizzling passion, lust, desire, and spice with all the feelings to leave readers breathless and begging for more, forced proximity, the longer they paly housse andd fake their relatioship the blurrier the lines get, humor that will leave readers laughing-out-loud, one very unconventional pair of pink lines, chaos/drama, heartfelt emotions/emotional depth, betrayal, deception, action, adventure, and more. I recommend reading this book by an extraordinary author who knows how to captivate her readers' hearts and attention with the grump I slept with and, a contemporary grumpy sunshine billionaire enemies-to-lovers opposites attract romantic comedy that is sure to transport readers into a world that is immensely humorous, lustful, intriguing, and unforgettable.

Leslie delivers another book filled with all the banter, tension and spice, that you seriously don't want to miss out on! This book is the second in series, set in the Scottish Highlands - featuring grumpy billionaire boss, Locke and photographer/Inn owner, Isla.
Isla and Locke get off on the wrong foot from the get go, and things only get worse when they show up at the same vow renewals of their friends, Weston and Lena. Despite the constant bickering between them throughout the night, their undeniable chemistry is explosive. One night only, no strings attached fun. Although it's never quite that simple... especially when two pink lines change everything 👀
Locke is also in Braeburn in hopes of securing a plot of land to build a luxury retreat - a project that could once again bring good publicity for his company. He also has fond memories from his childhood spent there and wants to give back to those of Braeburn - boosting jobs, tourism and overall footfall. When he finds the perfect place, its where the old and derelict MacRae whiskey distillery sits. However, Isla had visions to keep that same plot of land in the family, especially as it's the last place linking her to her late mom. Isla's dad is also refusing to budge and is swayed by selling the land to some industrialists to build a factory. Locke and Isla must team up and show a united front for the townspeople of Braeburn - specifically Isla's dad - in order to persuade them of the better option. Surely if they were fake engaged, no-one would suspect a thing right? But throw a baby in the mix, it's not long til feelings start becoming all too real between Locke and Isla.... and the once absurd thought of becoming a family of three might not be so bad after all 🥹
I seriously love the fake engagement trope and Isla and Locke had this locked down. The way in which they naturally fell together, even for a fake romance was beautiful. Isla is a character you can't help but warm up to and the way in which we get to see Locke's sweet side?? 🫠🫠 Eeeeeeeeee!!
However, Locke and Isla's relationship isn't all plain sailing, especially as they both have unresolved issues to sort through in order to move forward. Their trust, vulnerability and love for one other is truly put to the test 🫣 but to see Locke grovel for forgiveness? Definitely worth the HEA 💗💗.

This was such a nice read!
Isla and Locke meet when Isla is helping out her friends. For their vow renewal, the photographer isn't available anymore and Isla is stepping up to take the pictures! She needs new flashdrives and goes out of town to get them. On her way, her car ends up head to head with a Bentley, and no one wants to give way.
Enters Locke, a clearly posh handsome man who is also in a hurry. And through their interaction, he gets to see sheep from real close, is all I'll say.
Anywayn they leave the situation both feeling frustrated but both get to their destination in a timely manner, only to realize that they are both attending the same event and that they are both friends with the happy couple.
One thing leads to another, in spite of being annoyed with each other, they spend the night together and one month later Isla is pregnant.
In the meantime, Locky pushed a proposal to buy land outside the town where Isla lives. His compagny manages luxury hotels and he found the perfect spot. Turns out though, that the land is owned by Isla's father and Locke didn't make the best first impression. To turn things around, and in the light on the pregnancy announcement, he asks Isla to pretend to be his fiance to soften up granddaddy.
So this is the basis of the story, it may seem like a lot is going on but it's well written and the plot flows pretty well. I was never lost or confused.
I really enjoyed this book! It was really refreshing, I'm not a huge fan of the accidental pregnacy trope but here it was pretty well done. I really liked Isla, a free spirit who manages a hotel and just takes things as they come. She never came off as desperate for Locke's attention or anything.
Their is also a huge element of the story based on 'it takes a village' and that was really nice to read about!
Locke was a little more flat for me, I couldn't really tell whether he was supposed to be a billionaire or not? Just pretty wealthy? But he drives a bentley and shops at Gucci. Idk, it wasn't that important but it left my questioning a few times.
The main conflict was very realistic and I really liked that! I could see myself understand both of their points and why they were standing firm. And the resolution was quite well executed.
Overall, a quick and easy read, a little bit angsty but not too much. Very balanced. Would absolutely recommend!

When I saw the title, I knew exactly what I was signing up for—a grumpy billionaire, a feisty heroine, sizzling chemistry, and enough romance tropes to keep me entertained. And to be fair, The Grump I Slept With delivers on all of that.
Set in the charming Scottish town of Braeburn, the story follows Locke Fraser, a billionaire CEO who believes work comes first and emotions are nothing but distractions. Thanks to a childhood shaped by emotionally distant parents and a broken home, he’s convinced love simply isn’t for him.
Then along comes Isla McRae…
Their first meeting is anything but pleasant, and I had a good chuckle every time she called him names like Lord Poshpants and Bentley Boy. Their constant bickering made for a fun enemies-to-lovers setup—until one impulsive night leaves them expecting a baby.
Add a fake engagement, a fight over the future of the historic MacRae distillery, family drama, and two people who insist they don’t belong together, and you can probably guess where the story is headed.
For me, this was one of those books that was enjoyable enough while I was reading it, but not particularly memorable once I turned the last page.
The storyline leaned heavily on familiar romance tropes, and while I don’t mind a predictable romance (sometimes that’s exactly the mood!), I kept hoping for something that would surprise me or make this one stand out from the crowd. Unfortunately, it never quite got there.
I also had a hard time connecting with Isla. She felt a little too emotional and idealistic for my taste, and some of her reactions didn’t feel entirely believable. I wanted just a bit more depth and realism from her character.
That said, if you’re looking for an easy, low-angst romance with a picturesque small-town setting, an accidental pregnancy, fake engagement, plenty of banter, and, of course, a guaranteed happily-ever-after, this book ticks all the boxes. It doesn’t try to reinvent the romance wheel—it simply gives readers a comforting, trope-filled escape.
Was it groundbreaking? Not really.
Was it an easy weekend read? Absolutely.
If trope-heavy, small-town romances are your comfort reads, there’s a good chance you’ll enjoy this one more than I did.

Isla is roaring down the road to get new memory cards to help out her bestie with her renewal vows ceremony. She is then stopped in the road, and has to argue who has the right of way, with a dapper man in an expensive car. Their argument leads to a bunch of sheep interfering. It is hilarious. It ends up being Weston’s friend, Locke. She finds this out once everything is set up and she has returned with the memory cards, because the photographer for it got hurt. Isla handles Locke and it is hilarious. He doesn’t understand her. Or how she handles things. He is confused. When Locke meets Ranger, Isla’s deerhound, at her Inn, it is funny. Those dogs are huge. Things end up becoming hot and heavy between Isla and Locke (short for Lachlan).
I adore Cat, Isla’s other bestie, who owns the cat cafe next door to the Inn. The rants that they have regarding Locke is hilarious. Locke comes in and a plan to deal with her father Dougal so that Locke can buy the land he wants. Dougal doesn’t understand his daughter. But, he loves her and shows it in a weird way.
We get to meet Isla’s smarmy ex, Declan, who represents the other interested party in buying the land that was Isla’s family. I would’ve sicced Bonnie and the dogs on him. I like Locke a lot more because he is more honest. Ranger is as hilarious as Bonnie and Milo. I love them. It reminds me of my dog, Buster, who has been gone more than 15 years now.
There are a few times where Locke doesn’t get what Isla is trying to say and it causes problems between them. I wanted to thwack some sense into him. I cried a few times because of it as well. I was so frustrated. The ending was perfect. It became romantic, hot and steamy and they are perfect for each other- Locke & Isla. I cried with happiness and glee. Bonnie leading a sled is a very scary idea for me, especially with kids riding it. *shudders*.

Book 2 picks up at Weston and Lena’s vow renewal from book 1. They can be read as stand-alone but the character dynamics make more sense when read in order. Isla is Lena’s best friend and she runs the local inn. On a mission to get memory cards so she could fill in for the injured photographer she gets stuck on the narrow road because some rich jerk won’t pull his expensive SUV into the ditch so she can pass because her little Toyota would get stuck if she tried. Turns out it’s one of Weston’s best friends who is also rushing to the wedding. Thru the reception they actually sit and talk and end up back at the Inn agreeing to a no strings night. 6 weeks later when Locke is back in town she tells him she’s pregnant. These two have a lot to work through to find their hea. BetweenLocke’s mother leaving his father for a younger man, Locke’sonly other serious relationship ended when the woman left because he was to focused on work to Locke watching his other best friend Alister being torn to shreds by his ex who stole millions from his company and left him to handle the fallout and their daughter himself he doesn’t trust relationships. Plus his father always put work above all else so that’s how he thought you provided for your family. Isla was raised by her mother alone in the states because her father never made family a priority over work so when she found out she was pregnant she vowed she wouldn’t let Locke being an absent father like she had. To complicate things Locke and Isla pretend to be engaged to help convince Isla’s father to sell the old distillery property to to them instead of a factory owner interested in it. What starts out fake quickly turns to real feelings with both of their pasts becoming a major issue.

Thanks to Netgalley, Relay Publishing and Leslie North for the free copy.
This story follows our FMC, Isla, and our MMC, Locke, who meet at the vow renewal of our couple from book 1. Well, they meet on the road before that, but you'll have to read the book to get that gem of a scene. They don't like each other at first, of course. But they have a one night stand and surprise! Baby! The story goes from there.
While I am not a fan of the pregnancy trope, I was such a sucker for book 1 and loved this author, so I decided to give this a shot. I didn't mind the whole baby thing, but I did not like this book as much as the first one.
What I really love about this author is that she doesn't let her MMCs get away with grand gestures and half ass apologies, she actually makes them put in the work when they mess up. That's different and I like it. I also love the banter and chemistry between these characters and I can already tell I'm gonna read book 3.
What I didn't enjoy as much in this book was that the story felt unfinished. We spent the entire book focused on the pregnancy and we're left with her still pregnant? What happened with the hotel? And those other projects the MMC was working on? There's just too many plot points that were completely abandoned, which left me unsatisfied. It also felt a bit repetitive from book 1 with another fake relationship trope.
Overall, I would recommend this book if you want something low stakes and love the pregnancy trope.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ 5/5 The Grump I Slept With was such a fun, charming grumpy sunshine romance with all the tropes I love—accidental pregnancy, fake dating, enemies-to-lovers tension, and a grumpy billionaire hero who doesn’t know what to do with his feelings.
Isla was a fantastic heroine. She’s strong, independent, and determined to protect the place and memories that matter to her. I loved that she didn’t just fall at Locke’s feet because he was wealthy and powerful. She challenged him, stood her ground, and made him work for every bit of trust she gave him.
Locke was the perfect grumpy hero. He’s arrogant, stubborn, and completely frustrating at times, but underneath that cold exterior is a man who cares deeply. Watching him slowly soften and realize that Isla and their future child are more important than any business deal was one of the best parts of the story.
The fake relationship trope was done so well, especially with the constant banter and undeniable chemistry between them. Their push-and-pull dynamic kept the story entertaining, and the emotional moments gave the romance real depth beyond the attraction.
The small-town setting, family drama, and battle over the land added an extra layer to the story, making it more than just a romance. It had humor, heart, tension, and plenty of swoony moments.
If you love grumpy billionaires, fake relationships, accidental pregnancy, witty banter, and a couple who fights their feelings before finally giving in, The Grump I Slept With is a must-read. A fun and satisfying addition to the Braeburn Cliffs series!.

Characters:
Mostly fleshed out, at first they kind of blended together and it was hard to tell whose point of view it was at times, but as I got further into the book, they developed their own personalities.
Setting:
Takes place in small town Scotland, I like the setting, the way the town and the closeness of its people were portrayed seemed realistic to me.
Plot:
Not a huge fan of the plot. At least the way it was written. It was a fun read, but it was slow at times and seemed to skip around at other times. I liked the story, but I didn't love it. The third act breakup seemed forced and the way they got back together also seemed somewhat forced as well.
☆☆☆
I'm not a huge fan of romance and as such I found it hard to get into the book. It's an easy read and relatively quick, but it's just kinda boring. The alternating point of view was hard to follow at first, the characters just weren't that distinct.
There's a lot of open door spice scenes, so if you're into that, this is the book for you. Pretty slow moving, but a nice read, this is my bedtime book, so I've been reading it in small bursts. I'm not sure how old Locke is (I assume it's mentioned in the first book of the series), but I find it a little odd how the age gap comes up. Idk I'm just not usually a fan of age gaps.
After finishing the book, I can confidently say it was just okay. I didn't feel a connection to any of the characters at all. Nothing against the author or the story itself, it was just a big nothing burger. Overall a nice read, if you're a primary romance reader you'll probably enjoy this a lot more than I did.

This funny and very entertaining book had me totally invested in seeing Locke and Isla find a happily ever after. Their first meeting was absolutely hilarious and included plenty of snarky banter which I enjoyed. The next encounter was a tad tense but ended in a passionate night at her inn before he was on his way back to the city. Weeks later, Isla discovered she was carrying a souvenir of their night together. Then Locke returned to town, looking to buy the land her father was selling, the land Isla wants for her own project, but her father refused to sell or give the land to her.
Locke went to Isla for help in convincing her father to sell the land to him. His plan was a fake engagement but then he was stunned by her pregnancy news. Children had not been on his radar, but he was eager to at least co-parent with Isla. The pretend engagement and close proximity fostered very real feelings and the wish to be together permanently. He divided his time between the city and Isla’s place, then old fears and the terrible betrayal his friend endured caused Locke to do an about face. He retreated emotionally and physically. Some intervention from an unexpected source sent Locke on a mission to win Isla back. It wasn’t an easy task. Locke finally learned actions meant more than his words or his wealth.
I loved the small town setting, the quirky and fascinating characters and the connection between Isla and Locke. The advance and retreat nature of their relationship brought both humour and emotion to their story. I am quite happy to recommend this engaging book.

*i have more thoughts i want to come back to add later*
Isla is warm and patient, but not afraid to stick up for herself and be true to herself. She always puts the challenge up to Locke. She seems like someone anyone would feel safe and comfortable around. Locke… a man who needs a weekly therapy session, he’s got it all so backwards. He had so much growth, and he went and ruined it. I just can’t. He thought he could swoop and say whatever and everything would be merry. I just don’t understand how it took him so long to cop on.
The fake dating just didn’t work. I didn’t hate the book, but the way this trope was done just didn’t hit for me. I get why they did it, there was something they both were going to get out of it. The way they developed genuine feelings for each other during their forced proximity for the fake dating, and then for it to all go to the dogs for months then. There needed to be more yearning, and a LOT more grovelling from Locke. He didn’t properly work and show why he deserved Isla back. He wasn’t there for her period. It’s quite concerning like disappearing act for most of her pregnancy. I don’t think it was realistic for Isla to just let it go. Personally, it’d take me a long time to trust someone who treated me like that in one of the most vulnerable moments in my life. It took him too long to realise his priorities and by then it’s all rushed. There needed to be more depth.
It was a quick read, characters who we see real, genuine growth from these characters. The ending was good. Thank you to NetGalley, Relay Publishing, and Leslie North for providing me with an advanced readers copy in exchange for a voluntary honest review.

Welcome back to the Village of Braeburn, home to quirky inhabitants, lovable animals and surrounded by pastoral beauty… and lots of sheep! I am admittedly becoming a bit of fan girl for Leslie North’s stories, but nothing could have stopped me from diving into this story after reading the first few pages. Isla is my idea of a driving goddess! Her ongoing dialogue with the sheep she drove past was absolutely on point. Even better was her banter with Lord Poshpants during their “sheep-cute”. A proper introduction follows at Lena and Weston’s vow renewal reception where Isla and Locke are seated beside each other and have a chance to find out a little about who they are sitting beside. One thing leads to another and ultimately 2 pink lines.
Thus begins the journey of Locke and Isla learning to trust each other, facing disappointment and ultimately finding forgiveness and the love they deserve. Both main characters come with some significant family “baggage” that causes some serious bumps in the road for them, but they manage to get though it to their HEA.
The story is full of lots of banter and scenes that can’t help but make you smile. The love and support that the people in the village show to Isla is the true definition of community.
So if you are looking for a story full of all the feels you should definitely give this one a go.

ARC review let's get into it :))
4.8 ⭐️ (rounded up for Goodreads)
Leslie really knows how to pull you in for her stories. The BANTER between Isla and Locke really just set the tone for the book and I loved it
There's something about marriage of convenience and fake engagement books that I just love and will sit and devour anytime
The banter - the sexual tension - the quiet moments I loved all of it
I also read the other book in this series find here The Grump I Married
I love that we get into a new couple here but Wes and Lena’s story continues and getting to see them be a huge part of this book was really nice
I also loved that it shows how important it is to show up, how important it is to be there for your friends and family
Moral of the story: actions absolutely speak louder than words
Tropes:
One Night Stand
Fake Engagement
Accidental Pregnancy
Quotes:
"Because you're interesting. Annoying, but interesting. And my eyes are always drawn to what interests me,"
"I'm feeling very judged. Is he going to attack if I take you to bed?"
"Save the pretty words, I'm more interested in action."
"Solid four stars,"
“Four bloody stars, as if. You just had the night of your life."
"Should we get some photos of the waterfall for your team? It really is the property's best feature."
"I'd argue you're currently its best feature."

This one ultimately just wasn't the right fit for my reading tastes, and that's on me as much as anything. I read the description knowing it leaned heavily into rom-com style banter, hoping I'd end up enjoying it anyway, but I discovered (again!) that banter-heavy romances just aren't my jam.
For me, the dialogue made up most of the story, and I was left wanting more emotional depth, stronger atmosphere, and more immersion in the setting. Although the book frequently references Scotland, I never fully felt transported there. The London scenes were actually my favorite—I was at Borough Market recently, so that scene made me ridiculously hungry for a hot pie.
The romance also didn't quite work for me. The enemies-to-lovers progression felt very quick, and I struggled to buy into the chemistry between the main characters. By about the halfway point, they seemed deeply in love, only to fall out over a misunderstanding that felt more frustrating than emotionally compelling before reconciling again. I also had a hard time connecting with the FMC because some of her reactions felt disproportionate and childish.
That said, if you love fast-paced romances with lots of playful banter, this may be much more your speed than it was mine. It simply wasn't the style of romance I personally gravitate toward.

One night stand (past), assertive FMC, cocky MMC, fake relationship (after one night stand), enemies to lovers, small town, pregnancy, hea.
Loved it!
The moment I started reading, I could not drop it.
The humour, the way the dialogues are written, the characters interact - it makes the book so real and relatable.
And the banter! Out of this world and fun!
Both Locke and Isla are both stubborn and know what they want
The book starts in the most hilarious way - sheep-uation explains it all.
The banter between MMC and FMC is everything.
I give kudos to the farmer for being the more level headed of all the humans
Locke is late for Weston and Lena’s wedding.
Isla is the photographer for that same wedding - not that they both know that.
They end up having a one night stand that same night - great flirting!
Some time passes afterwards and Locke is looking for properties for his next project, Highland Haven, he runs into the old whiskey factory that belonged to Isla’s family.
As soon as she gets pregnant and he claims he wants to be involved, it gets complicated, as she thinks he wants to use her to get the business deal done
They both agree to a fake engagement so Isla’s dad sells the property to Locke and of course, the plan does go off the rails - in a good way.
Ranger the dog likes him so he is a good guy - dogs have good instincts
Recommended!

Their Fated Journey to Forever Happiness -
The first time Isla and Locke met it didn’t end well, but they soon found themselves together again, which ultimately led to one heck of a mind blowing night. Even though Isla and Locke’s night together was meant to be a one time affair, fate had other plans in store for them, that connected them together. However, Isla and Locke’s lives were worlds apart in terms of their priorities, which became an issue when he let her down on an occasion that she expected him to be with her.
Unfortunately, Isla and Locke’s stubbornness in their unwillingness to compromise led to conflict between them and nearly cost them a chance at their relationship. Luckily, Isla and Locke came to their senses in time to realise they needed to resolve their conflict and get back on track towards building the future happiness they wanted. I absolutely LOVE reading Leslie North’s books and I can say without a shadow of doubt, that this book definitely didn’t disappoint me. Talk about an instant addiction once you start reading the story and soon find yourself drawn into the story and unable to take a break until you reach the end.

Isla and Locke's meet cute was hilarious i loved it.They got of on the wrong foot. The attraction was instant. They ended up having a one night stand with no strings attached.
Locke is looking for a new property to build his luxury resort, then he finds the perfect place in Braeburn.
When two pink lines appear after their one night stand,Isla tells Locke. He is shocked and speechless, which upsets Isla. Then she finds out Locke wants to buy the property she has so many fond memories of growing up and she also has dreams for it.
Locke isn't the only one who wants that property the second option is even worse.
Locke asks Isla to help convince her father to sell it to him and the best way to convince him is to fake a relationship. He also wants to co parent.
Their fake relationship turns real along the way and they fall for each other. The road to happily ever after is never smooth.
There are tears and heartbreak before they get to their happily ever after, but they eventually do get there.
Loved the banter,laughter,tears,amazing friendships,found family,chemistry,swoony moments,the Scottish Highlands,small town warmth,romance and a happily ever after.
Cannot wait for Alistair's romance next.

A One Night Stand between a Workaholic and a Free Spirit
I really loved this story. We meet Workaholic Locke and Isla. Locke and Isla have a one-night stand, and when they meet again, Isla lets him know he is about to be a father. To make matters even more complicated, Locke is trying to buy a property that Isla’s dad owns, and Locke made a horrible first impression. Isla has secretly wanted the property to use it to honor her mother, but her dad won’t let her try to purchase it. So when Locke finally convinces her that his plans won’t ruin what is magical about the town, she decides to fake an engagement to help convince her dad to sell the property to Locke. Along the way, they grow closer, and what starts out as fake starts to get real.
There are a lot of funny and cute moments in this story. Locke is struggling to balance the type of businessman he thinks he should be with the type of father he wants to be. And Isla is carrying a lot of baggage from her strained relationship with her own workaholic father. I loved reading how they worked together and slowly began to earn each other’s trust. Funny, cute, and heartfelt read.

How I love these Scottish men. Locke is so much more than the resting grump face he’s got going on. He only needed the right woman to show him that business isn’t all.
Isla is young business woman. Running the inn at Braeburn while also doing a stint as photographer in her small town. Her run in with Locke isn’t exactly a positive one and both have opinions of the other. Still they manage to fall in bed together and surprise surprise…Isla’s got a little scone in oven. Locke’s reaction isn’t what she expected and they soon enter a fake engagement in order to win the bid for the Macrae land. Land that should be going to Isla but her father is a stubborn man who thinks she isn’t capable of handling all that land. Yes they have some growing pains in their relationship but soon it starts to feel real and Isla meets another side of Locke. One she’s not so sure of but Locke isn’t aware of how much that side of him rubs Isla the wrong way. This relationship can go either way and it will be up to these two to decide just how much they want to be in each other’s lives.
Can these two figure it out?.

Locke is rich and unhappy. Isla loves living in her small town. Their issues stem from the fact that she wants to keep her family’s old distillery intact and he wants to turn it into a destination. Oh and they make a baby that causes much angst. But oh my will they end up together even though they have nothing in common and seem to be a terrible fit?
This whole story could have been avoided by first, not sleeping with a stranger. Two, by not lying to everyone around you to accomplish a business deal. Three, once you have already done the two things listed about, remember that you don’t actually know the person you have been sleeping with while lying to everyone so perhaps you should learn to talk to each other instead of being reactive to every little thing. I think they are a terrible couple and I feel terrible for the baby. Yes, this story annoyed me.
This story take place in the highlands of Scotland. It is a small town being gentrified story. The two main characters are hard-headed and narrow-minded. I usually really enjoy stories from this author but this one just annoyed me from almost the first. I will read more from this author but this one disappointed me.

Didn't realized this is part of a series and missed out on Weston's book, but this is just as good. We opened with Isla doing photography for Weston & Lena's wedding and met Locke. The two were budding heads but there's also some heat behind that. Fast forward a month later, Isla found out she's preggars. Not only that, the land she grew up in, is up for sale and not only does her dad won't sell it to her, whoever wanting the land needs to jumps thru hoops. One of the buyer happens to be Locke. So they devised a fake engagement plan hoping the vote from the towns people will go in their favors. And that worked! Except now that is in place, does Locke really have a reason to be around?
I like the author's style, the billionaire is rich, sensible but not sensitive until the women really hit them on the head with a frying pan for them to realized what a jerk they've been and how badly they've screwed things up. I like Isla, she is so independent, she knows how she was hurt and what she wants in her partner. And thank goodness Locke got his head out of his arse and come back around.
Thank you NetGalley & Relay Publishing for the ARC.

Charming story for small town light romance lovers ✨
If you like the highlands atmosphere with a tight up community and funny banter, you’re gonna love this book. The heroine is a true raw nature connoisseur, that isn’t impressed by money and the hero walks the fine line between the good guy with some moral compass and a corporate shark. The chemistry is palpable from the very first chapter and the air is loaaaded. 🔥🌋
Most warm romance books are either a or miss with me, and as much as I like this author, this one just wasn’t it for me. There was nothing I actually disliked in the story and the pacing was good with the reader being thrown directly into the story, but it somehow just didn’t really click. Because I subscribed for the ARC I felt it wasn’t fair to not leave a feedback.
I wholeheartedly reccomend this book for those who enjoy warm romance or want to unwind, because the writing is good and the plot actually interesting.
The dark side is more of my calling I guess.

I absolutely loved "The Grump I Slept With!" Leslie North delivered everything I enjoy in a romance—amazing chemistry, witty banter, emotional moments, and a hero who completely stole my heart. Locke and Isla were fantastic together. Their grumpy/sunshine dynamic was so much fun, and the tension between them had me hooked from the very first page.
I especially loved watching their fake relationship develop into something deeper as they navigated unexpected challenges and growing feelings. Locke may be stubborn and frustrating at times, but seeing his softer, caring side come out around Isla was incredibly swoon-worthy. Isla was easy to root for, and I admired her strength and determination throughout the story.
This book made me laugh, smile, and completely lose track of time. A heartfelt, entertaining romance with wonderful characters and plenty of feels. I couldn't put it down and highly recommend it to fans of grumpy billionaire romances!.

Back in the charming Scottish town of Braeburn, so you know your in for another brilliant story. Isla is happy to help with her friend Lena with her vow renewal. But when she realises no photographer has been organised, well she takes it on herself to take them herself. So off she goes to purchase a new memory card to put the photos on. What she doesn't expect is the literally come face to face with the most arrogant, self obsessed Lord Poshpants who thinks he owns the road. Locke believes he works hard and deserves to be respected. But then he meets Isla who doesn't think the same. Now he's stuck on a road arguing over who should actually move their car so he can get on with his journey. Obviously it should be her. It's easy to see the chemistry between them straightaway. Except they don't. What starts as a chance meeting so develops into a love hate relationship. What starts as frenemies soon becomes more. This is another easy to read story that has you laughing and a little hot under the collar. As with all of Leslie's books you just dont want to put it down
