Best friends Fiona, Alma, Killian, and Yoli have just graduated high school. In celebration, they embark on a Caribbean cruise, and they are determined to have the time of their lives before splitting ways. But a visit to a fortune teller at a carnival forewarns danger for their trip. Alma and Killian dismiss the prediction as a trick to scare them, but Fiona and Yoli can’t help but be frightened that one of them will not come home, as foreseen by the fortune teller.
The Temptress Four is a fun story about the interwoven lives of four best friends and they struggle to find out what they want to do with the rest of their lives. It is a question many teens wonder about, as do Fiona, Alma, Killian, and Yoli on their fun cruise. The girls change and grow on the trip as they learn about themselves and what they want in life. The story was not as meaningful as it could’ve been, but the message did get across to me. The seriousness of the question is offset by the tropical setting and fun opportunities provided by the cruise, which lightened the mood of the story. I would have liked the story to be told in alternate narrations between the four friends, but it was only told from Fiona’s point-of-view. This one aspect would’ve made the novel much better, because I felt that I didn’t get to know any of the characters except Fiona.
Despite its few drawbacks, The Temptress Four was a fun read for me, and got me in the mood for summer vacation. I recommend this novel for a light, fun read, possibly as a book you take along to the beach or pool on a sunny day.
Fiona and her three best friends are about to embark on a graduation cruise to the Caribbean, one last adventure together before they head their separate ways. On a whim, they agree to have their fortunes told by Madame Fortuna at the senior fair the night before departure. Madame Fortuna predicts strife and storms. Then, after turning over the DEATH card, she proclaims, "One of you will not come home."
With trepidation, the girls set sail on the Temptress the following morning, each with their own expectations of what the week may bring. On a ship where no one knows them, they're free to step out of their comfort zone and take risks. But will the bonds of their friendship be strong enough to hold them together through the storms and strife to come?
What follows is a delicious romp through a week of ship's parties, dances, scrumptious food, and romance, even if it's forbidden. The girls shop, they get a little sun, they indulge in full body massages, and, oh yes, attract a lot of attention. Imagine: four beautiful, sexy, young women trolling the decks for fun.
Gaby Triana has done a beautiful job of creating four distinctly different, yet fascinating, characters. That they are so close is both surprising and completely believable. I was intrigued when I read the blurb about the book at Ms. Triana's website and was not disappointed.
With plenty of laughter, love, and tears, this is an engaging story of a voyage into adulthood and independence that should not be missed.

Fiona, Killian, Yoli, and Alma have just graduated from high school and are going on a graduation cruise together. This is their last time to spend time with eachother before they all go their seperate ways the next fall. The day before their departure for their cruise, the bestfriends get a fortune that will surprise them: "Eight days of strife and storms... Bonds will be broken... One of you will not come home..." Throughout the story, the girls fall in love, get their hearts broken, pull insane stunts, and have fights, but in the end, they all realize that friendship is a bond that will never be broken, no matter what a fortune teller says.
This novel was quite amusing for me, and I would reccommend it to anybody who is missing the summer (I know I am!). My copy was actually 247 pages long, unlike what Goodreads has said (they say it is 256 pages long). This novel reminds me of The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants, by Ann Brashares. The only thing I was quite upset about is that the ending didn't seem like an ending to me. I felt like there were things left unanswered, and I wish there was a sequel that would explain more of what happened afterwards. Other than that, I loved the book, so I gave it a five out of five. I hope whoever reads this novel enjoys it as much as I did!
"Yo, Kill, All, Fee, Forever friends we will be!" ~The Temptress Four
I saw this book in the store and thought it would make a nice beach read during my cruise. I was right. not only do the girls in the story stop in different cities and have a great time, but there's a mystery to it with a surprise ending. Nice job, author!
I really liked this book a lot. I am graduating this year and have my next few years planned out. This book made me wonder if anything will come along to change everything I have planned. Fiona, Killian, Yoli, and Alma feel like new friends to me now. Good graduation book.
I don't know about this one. I wanted to love it, but I didn't enjoy the ending. It was too much of a cliffhanger for a standalone book. And I hated Fiona's boyfriend. What an a**! But I liked the characters, and the setting was beautiful. 3.5 stars.
In Triana's latest novel, she deftly writes about that very confusing time between high school and college, expertly manuevering through the friendship that these four girls have with humor, warmth, and heart. It's a quick read and very engaging, with a spectacular ending.
I really enjoyed how this book was written and I really enjoy how the characters are so different from each other but fit perfectly as best friends. However the abrupt ending and the main characters choices could have been better.
This was a quick, nice read. It was worth it for the "Love Boat" reference because I love that show! However, the friendship of these four girls didn't seem real. They were all kind of rude and judgmental to each other, which is not real friendship!
I can't disparage this one too much - it was readable & fairly realistic, if exorbitantly predictable. I did like that the author set this on a cruise ship but didn't try to throw in any ship-almost-sinking or omg-we-missed-the-ship antics.
WoW! (and I don't usually rave over contemporary books).
This story is DEEP - exploration of 18 year old Fiona's early quarterlife crisis as she navigates a post-HS-graduation cruise with her just-different-enough group of girlfriends.
Triana's play with the fortune teller is a nice precognitive easter egg into her later paranormal awesomeness.
This book was ok, but I really didn’t like when the girls insulted each other by calling the other person retarded. This happened 4 times. I counted because it really stood out as juvenile and insensitive.
Yeah! This is refreshing if for no other reason than the characters are strong Latinas. The author offers readers four personalities, though we generally see the world from Fiona's perspective.
More juvenile than I wanted it to be, and not scary at all which is what the synopsis wants you to believe. Nevertheless I still enjoyed it, probably mostly because I love cruises and this was a pretty accurate depiction of being a teenage girl on one. Makes me want to plan another soon! Cute but forgettable 2.5 stars-ish
