In the kingdom of astonishing magicks, supreme sorceress Chalaine must join forces with dashing wordmaster and sorcerer Prince Bariden to stop the dark evil that is ransacking souls within the walls of the royal castle. Original.
Born and raised in Brooklyn, NY. Attended New York University and graduated with a B.A. in 1963. Married in 1963, had three sons, divorced in 1976. Raised the sons, Andy, Brian and Curtis, alone in New Jersey. Worked for AT&T as a shareowner correspondent, then as an all-around assistant in a construction company, then sold bar steel for an import firm. Left that job as assistant sales manager. I've been writing full time since 1984.
Hobbies: knitting, crocheting, Tae Kwon Do, fencing, archery, shooting, jigsaw puzzles, logic problems, math problems, not cooking.
Don't do my own research, since if I did I'd stay with that and never get any writing done. I usually can finish a novel of about 120,000 words in about three months.
The book was entertaining, fast-paced, and fun. It was not well written, often becoming bland, overly blunt, or stodgy. The exposition was INCREDIBLY stilted until they entered the hidden realms. However, the writing significantly improves as their adventure starts. The end "reveal" was so awkward and ridiculous I couldn't help but laugh the entire time.
I enjoyed the author's attempt at the female lead. She went from overly feminist (I can do everything myself!!!11!) to overly feminine (look I am going to be super passive-aggressive and emotional) in a span of sentences. However, she was intelligent, thoughtful, and -- by the end --- a fairly reasonable person.
It is a ridiculous, silly, frivolous book that I found to be a quite an enjoyable read. It feels like a fledgling author who had great ideas but no idea how to put them down on paper. Overall, a refreshing change from many of the thoughtless and trite books written recently.
