The Mackenzies Take London #2

I’ve Grown Accustomed to My Scot

Rate this book
Reckless Rory never expected to fall in love, especially with a ruined London lady.

Rory MacKenzie came to London expecting excitement and to carry on with his reckless lifestyle. He didn’t expect to fight a duel and end up married. Can he turn over a new leaf? His new wife needs his help and he finds himself willing to accommodate her, willing to become a better man for her. Perhaps he isn’t such a lost cause after all. Perhaps he is falling in love.

Grace Snowden is trapped and desperate to escape her awful stepfather and the man she had mistakenly hoped would help her. Marriage to Rory MacKenzie seems like a long shot, especially when he rejects her overtures in bed for some honorable reason of his own, but as they grow to know each other better, she finds herself trusting him. Loving him. Or is she just making another mistake?

Tropes you'll enjoy:
Fake relationship
Forced proximity
Meet Cringe
Hero redeemed

Note: This series is part of Dragonblade's Flame line, so this is a sexy, steamy, and scorching-hot read with multiple sex scenes. Be advised.

Book two in this wonderful series and we see the second Mackenzie brother Rory arrive in London to continue on in his reckless life he has no intention of falling in love or heaven forbid marrying, Rory is about the carefree life but things just might change when he ends up in a duel and then with his caring ways rescues and marries Grace, it is to be a paper marriage only he will see her settled in a home and he can go on his merry way or that is what he thought.

Grace sadly is known as Disgrace after a scandal when she thought a man would be able to help her escape her cruel stepfather, but when her stepfather finds her another husband and he ends up in a duel with a Scotsman is seems the she will now marry Lord Rory Mackenzie although she knows that it is a marriage on paper Grace dearly wants to make it real one at least once she is shocked when Rory refuses, he is a man of his word.

But with Rory’s Aunt Jennie encouraging them to be seen out in public to push the scandal away their time spend together sees them forming a relationship that is growing and soon they are sharing a bed and things are changing for both of them but falling in love was never on the plan for either but life has a way of changing things could they find a HEA together?

This is a truly a lovely story one that I loved Rory and Grace are made for each other and I do highly recommend this one and the series and I can’t wait for the next one bring it on I am looking forward to getting to know the next Mackenzie sibling.

My thanks to Dragonblade Publishing and Netgalley for my copy to read and review.

I have been wanting to read more of what I would consider a pure romance and this fit the bill perfectly. It wasn't distracting me with another story or mystery. I also tend to enjoy this author's DragonBlade books more than her other, I am not sure why. The smut was perfect, she was a very willing and excited partner which is nice. Rory I liked him too, a kind and thought man. I like his Aunt a bit too. I think that this story just need a few more page, Rory kind of changes his tune quickly and I feel like there should have been more confrontation with his uncle on behalf of his aunt.

I liked that Grace didn't immediately switch her personality; she was abused and mistreated by her father and others and that influenced her fears, decisions and questions.

Sara Bennett is a pretty new author for me. This is only my 8th book by her. It's weird that I hadn't read her before 2024 since she's been writing since 2002 and has 20 books or so out. The book cover for Dalliance with the Duchess series is what caught my eye. I researched her, as I do every new author to make sure they are my genre and they have sex in their books and she fit the bill. I really have been enjoying her writing.

I liked Rory and Grace and their story. I have really been reading different type of the normal "ton" books lately which is great. I like the variation. It's amazing how some men stepped up in those days. It also amazes how quickly MC and FC's fall in love. :) Overall a good read.

We have a very interesting pair! A second son that needs to find himself and a young lady that needs to truly belong!
We have Lord Rory Mackenzie involved in a strange duel that seems orchestrated by a reluctant duel! When Rory learns the man has been injured and not able to marry he is assume his betrothed!? What! But no one can make Rory do anything he is the wild feckless second son! He gambles, drinks and visits brothels.
Lady Grace Snowden is ruined she trusted the wrong man and he ruined her and ran! Her father the Earl of Ormsby is ruthless and feared and he means to take her off his hands by fair means or fowl and not taint her two younger sisters!
When Rory sees how shamefully her father treats Grace he married her to save her because her father would have turned her over to the footman!!!! No woman deserves this fate!
But something happens along the way two people learn to trust each other and possibly build something along the way!
Rory no longer even desires to go out and this scares him! Can he be the man Grace needs!
Can Grace trust him with her deepest fears? Bravo well done!

Thank you NetGalley. Rory Mackenzie is visiting his aunt in London to have himself a great time. He finds himself in a duel not sure what it is for. Due to the fact he has injured his opponent he now finds himself suppose to marry a young lady that the opponent was to marry to clear his debts. Her father is a man who you don't want to cross. He feels sorry for Grace and feels they can work something out, she just needs to get away from her father. These two people don't know each other but the longer they are together the better the are getting to know each other. Rory has always been a person who thought of himself but he is kind an the kindness works helping Grace.

Thank you NetGalley for the ARC!
I really enjoyed this book and seeing the shift from a marriage in name only to something more. I devoured it in a day and loved the inner thoughts of Rory and Grace.
Grace was cast out due to perceptions and Rory thought it was the right thing to do when her “father” approached him about marriage. Rory doesn’t want to change his rake ways, but finds they end up meaningless in comparison. There is just a little spice. I loved the character development and Grace and Rory seeing the best in each other. They show that perceptions are not what defies you.

A sweet & spicy, quick read. An ill-considered duel leads to a marriage of convenience between Grace and Rory, and we get to watch Rory slowly lose his rakish ways as he realizes maybe married life isn't all bad, and Grace realizes not all men are cruel or deceitful. Honestly, I wouldn't have minded another 100 pages. :)

I would like to thank Sara Bennett, NetGalley, and Dragonblade Publishing for a free eARC of this book. All opinions are my own.

When Rory goes to London to have some fun, he never expects to end up being forced to marry a stranger. Grace is just glad to get away from her cruel stepfather. Can she change his mind about a marriage of convenience? I received an ARC from NetGalley and Dragonblade Publishing for my honest review.

An enjoyable romance that starts with a fake relationship and a redeemable hero always makes for a good story. Rory and Grace are interesting characters with good chemistry. They make their way to a deserving happily ever after.
