Beautiful Hell: Where the life I was given ended—and the one I chose began

Rate this book
Beautiful Hell is a deeply personal memoir about identity, faith, grief, healing, and the quiet unraveling that begins when the life you built no longer feels true.

Raised in a devout Mormon family in Utah, Christine Davis Ross learned early how to stay small, keep the peace, and become who others expected her to be. Beneath the surface lived grief, silence, perfectionism, childhood wounds, and questions she didn’t yet know how to ask.

As loss, family tragedy, motherhood, illness, and her own journey through breast cancer begin to crack open the life she built, Christine starts to see how easily we lose ourselves when belonging matters more than truth.

From the mountains of Utah to the shores of Hawai‘i, Beautiful Hell traces one woman’s journey through faith, love, identity, loss, healing, the suicide of her brother, and the complicated process of learning to trust her own inner voice.

What follows is not a dramatic escape, but a slow and honest awakening—
one that leads her away from performance, fear, and external expectations,
and back to herself.

This is not just a story about healing.

It is a story about waking up.

About questioning what once felt unquestionable.

About walking through grief, fear, and fire—
and discovering that what waits on the other side is not certainty…
but freedom.

These pages hold true stories—honest, imperfect, and deeply human.

And somewhere within them,
you may recognize pieces of your own.

For the woman who has

• Felt the weight of being everything for everyone
• Questioned the life she thought she was supposed to want
• Carried pain quietly while appearing strong
• Wondered if there was more—but didn’t know where to begin

Beautiful Hell is an invitation—
to see clearly,
to feel deeply,
and to come home to yourself.

Christine Davis Ross is a writer, health and wellness coach, and lifelong explorer of what it means to live truthfully.

Raised in Utah and now living in Hawai‘i, Christine’s work explores identity, healing, grief, faith, family, self-discovery, and the complicated beauty of being human. Through memoir, storytelling, and coaching, she writes about the quiet unraveling that happens when the life we’ve built no longer fits—and the courage it takes to begin listening to ourselves again.

Christine is board-certified through the NCCA in Health and Wellness Coaching and has spent years helping individuals navigate personal transformation through mindfulness, behavior change, nourishment, movement, and emotional healing. Her background includes work as a life and empowerment coach, Fitness Nutrition Specialist, whole-foods cook, yoga instructor, and dance teacher. While her professional experience shaped her understanding of wellness, it was her own lived experiences that deepened it.

Her debut memoir, Beautiful Hell, is an intimate exploration of faith, grief, suicide loss, cancer, awakening, motherhood, and learning to trust one’s own inner knowing. She is also the author of Discover the Adventure of You and Health BEAMS, books centered on self-discovery, mindful living, and holistic well-being.

Christine believes healing rarely happens through perfection. Instead, it begins in honesty—in the quiet moments when we stop performing, stop abandoning ourselves for belonging, and begin telling the truth about our lives.

When she isn’t writing, Christine can usually be found near the ocean, walking with her dog, practicing yoga, gardening, cooking nourishing meals, or spending time with the people she loves most.

Through the masterful use of unique metaphors and beautiful prose, the author initially brings you along on her account of personal and family trauma, the hell of being separated from what you've learned is your own sacred truth, and then through sheer determination, heartened by the love of family and friends - its rediscovery and the heaven of living it.

It will shock you, inspire you, dismay you, encourage you- it will change you for the better just like it changed me.

Christine has been able to articulate details about her life that helped me to understand not just more about her, but ways for me to personally improve my outlook on challenges that many have faced and not talked about. This reflection of her most personal experiences expresses hope to those who have had tragic loss and rejection. She sees past hurt and pain to teach others that life is beautiful. This book encourages forgiveness and understanding. It reaches part of life most are afraid to talk about.

I personally found inspiration and love from her experiences and enjoyed learning of new ways to cope with some of the “Hell” life seems to throw at us. Thank you for sharing a part of you most are afraid to let surface. Truly inspiring.

I just finished Beautiful Hell, a raw exploration of what it takes to break free from generational trauma and rigid beliefs. Beautiful Hell takes readers through the heavy lifting of dismantling Mormon traditions, surviving family hardships and abuse, and holding onto a personal connection with Jesus. I deeply admired the author’s courage, as well as the immense challenges she has endured. Rather than letting these hardships define her, Christine builds a meaningful life and learns to find love and acceptance on her own terms. A Beautiful Hell delivers a message about relocation, boundaries, and learning to heal on your own terms.

Beautiful Hell is a profound and vulnerable story about the ultimate power of letting go. By guiding readers through the darkest corners of her life, from a punishing religious childhood and the tragic suicide of her brother to a scary cancer diagnosis, the author illustrates how extreme hardships broke her illusion of control. This story beautifully captures how leaving a restrictive faith and facing mortality can teach the ultimate lesson of surrender. It is an incredibly important reminder that life's most beautiful transformations often happen when we finally stop trying to steer the ship.

A BEAUTIFUL HELL

This is a book that reached into my soul and awakened long forgotten, or should I say buried, memories of my own life. People are "brought" into our lives for many reasons. Thoughts put before us to learn and share.

The author of this story is a phenomenal writer that is capable in the most beautiful story telling I have ever read.
I cried and had some good chuckles too. It was intriguing,  and very emotional also of the struggles and love this woman has openly shared for all to read. Enjoy!

Reading how my old friend found contentment and happiness by creating a beautiful new life was truly inspiring. She chose to learn, grow, and persevere through harrowing adversity. With forgiveness, light, and love as her guiding strengths, she fought for the life she envisioned and now deeply cherishes. Her story is a powerful reminder that even in life's darkest moments, healing, hope, and happiness are possible.
