Different Amish story. Always painful to be a widow, but to be pregnant and have your farm failing. Add to that a brother who is on rumspringa so not helping, but in fact is part (if not most) of the problem. Enter the "English" man that said brother gambled his half of the farm away to and.... Like I said in the beginning, a really different story. Add to this the fact that this English guy isn't exactly who he seems to be - he's hiding something. While the book wasn't a total loss for me as I did enjoy parts of it I simply couldn't quite believe that it would truly happen. I guess that's why they call it "fiction".
Enjoyed the story of Brock and Libby. Brock had left the Amish faith when he was young but God had a plan for him. Lilly's brother Angus lost part of the farm to Brock in a card game but maybe that was God's way to get Brock to come back to his faith.
This book is beautifully written, the story brings two men brings two men back into the Amish world , one is the brother of Libby, the other is a gambler who won half the farm, read the book and enjoy how the story plays out.
Too much of the book just missed arriving a chord of truth. It felt more like an idea for a book,a proposal that was waiting to be fleshed out. It also just didn't feel like an "Amish" story.
Enjoyed the book although too short. A young pregnant Amish widow is ousted out of half her family's farm by her gambler brother. When the Englisher comes to claim his half, there is conflict, reconciliation and love.
I really enjoyed this book. It was a very short read, but interesting and pleasant. I have read more Amish fiction books than I can count, but am always fascinated by how unique each one can be if the author is as skilled as Samantha Price is.
Was a different storyline. Was not sure if I would like it at first but as usual Samantha Price came through again looking forward to reading the rest of the series.
