'See it?' asks the Baron of his wife.

'I know I'm dense, darling, but no, I don't', replies his wife.

That sums up 'Attack the Baron' for me, if his nearest and dearest can't understand what is going on, what chance have I? Indeed, I must also be dense because while I could just about follow the plot, I struggled to make much sense of it early on. The tale was only redeemed by the exciting and all-action ending otherwise it would have really died a death.

And speaking of dying a death, the Baron is very nearly killed in the opening pages but recovers to track down his attempted assassin and also to uncover a plot to steal jewels and expose some blackmailing threats.

Often somewhat confusing and not one of John Creasey's best Baron tales, most of which are first rate.
