He stalked me like a prey, caged me like a possession. Ivy Hale They call him a mystery. But all I see is a masterpiece. Zane Vanthex is a man made of sharp edges and cold shadows. Every line of the dark ink covering his body tells a story I’m dying to read. I craved his attention. I chased his silence. I thought I could handle the darkness if it meant being near him. I was wrong. By the time I felt the click of the lock, it was too late. I didn't just walk into his life. I walked into his trap.
Zane Vanthex She looks at my ink and sees art. I look at her and see a conquest. Ivy thinks she’s chasing a man, but she’s hunting a predator. She wants to touch the darkness? I’ll let her. I’ll let her drown in it. She has no idea that every step she took toward me was a step deeper into my cage. She wants my obsession. She wants my possession. Now, she has to survive my cruelty. She’s mine to keep. Mine to break. And if she tries to run, I’ll show her exactly why they fear the name Vanthex.
Crimson Obsession is the first book of The Vanthex duet. It features a dark romance with a morally gray hero, a stalker-to-captive trope, and enough heat to burn the pages.
⁀➷ 5 stars ੈ✩‧₊˚ I’m genuinely sitting here wondering how I’m supposed to move on after Crimson Obsession because this book didn’t just get into my head—it absolutely invaded it. This wasn’t simply a dark romance to me. It felt like stepping into a fever dream made of obsession, danger, desire and psychological chaos. Dark, twisted, intoxicating and so ridiculously addictive that every time I told myself just one more chapter, suddenly hours had disappeared. This story completely consumed me. It slowly wrapped around my brain and tightened chapter by chapter until I realized I had become just as obsessed with these characters as they were with each other.
And now I’m sitting here staring at the wall because THAT ENDING???
No. Absolutely not. I need book two immediately because I refuse to process this cliffhanger like a stable person.
BLURB
Ivy becomes fascinated by the one man she should stay away from. Professor Zane Vanthex is cold, detached, unreadable—like a man carved from stone. A mystery. A locked door. But Ivy doesn’t know how to stop once something captures her attention. And Zane? Zane is hiding something much darker than indifference. Because some obsessions begin with curiosity. And others begin with destruction.
Zane Vanthex… I genuinely don’t even know how to explain this man because every time I thought I had him figured out, another layer appeared underneath. Usually with dark romance heroes, you eventually start seeing through them. You understand their motives. You begin understanding why they are the way they are. But Zane felt impossible to fully understand and that honestly made him even more addictive.
Morally grey?
Absolutely not.
This man is DARK dark.
He’s cold, detached, obsessive, terrifyingly controlled and emotionally unreadable in a way that somehow made him feel even more dangerous. Because Zane doesn’t need loud reactions or dramatic moments to completely dominate a scene. He barely reacts at all and somehow that made him ten times more intense. Every scene with him genuinely felt like standing beside a loaded weapon and waiting to see if it would finally go off.
And that was exactly what made him so addictive.
The tiniest reaction from him suddenly felt massive. A jaw tick. A pause. A look. One crack in his control and suddenly I was acting exactly like Ivy—completely obsessed and desperate to find more. Because beneath all that terrifying stillness there is clearly something buried there. Something darker. Something sharp. Something almost monstrous waiting beneath the surface.
And I needed to know what it was. Then there’s Ivy—and I loved her so much. Because she isn’t intimidated.
And I loved that because so many times in darker romances the heroine slowly gets overshadowed by an intense male lead, but Ivy never disappears inside Zane’s presence. She has her own curiosity, her own stubbornness and her own determination. She pushes him, provokes him, studies him, chases him and somehow keeps asking for more even when every warning sign imaginable is standing directly in front of her.
This girl saw a giant walking red flag and said: interesting. She literally sees darkness and walks toward it. And honestly?
I respected the commitment.
Watching Ivy continuously push against Zane’s walls felt like watching someone willingly play with fire while fully understanding they could get burned. She keeps stepping closer even when common sense says stop. Even when logic says stop.
And somehow she keeps going anyway.
But the absolute strongest part of this book?
THE TENSION.
Dear God. The chemistry between Ivy and Zane is genuinely insane and I’m not exaggerating when I say I felt tension in nearly every scene they shared together. Every conversation felt like foreplay and warfare happening at the same time. Their interactions aren’t soft or sweet—they feel dangerous. Every exchange felt layered with power struggles, obsession, control, staring contests, hidden meanings and this constant feeling that something was always seconds away from snapping. And every scene between them felt so charged I could physically FEEL the tension. There were moments where they were simply standing close to each other and somehow I was sitting there stressed because the tension felt unbearable.
The classroom scenes?
The library scenes?
THE DIALOGUES???
Inject them into my veins.
Because their dynamic honestly gave me that feeling where you know two people are heading directly toward absolute disaster and destruction and you’re sitting there kicking your feet screaming: yes exactly keep going.
And can we please talk about the spice because WOW.
What I appreciated was that this story understood that tension and anticipation can sometimes hit harder than immediate spice. There’s this slow build underneath everything where attraction, curiosity and obsession keep getting tangled together. The tension keeps escalating and escalating until every interaction suddenly starts feeling charged. Every look starts carrying weight. Every small moment suddenly feels important.
And when the spicy scenes happen, they feel intense because they’re not built only around attraction. They’re tied into control, obsession, power and emotional tension that has been building for chapters.
You can genuinely FEEL all that buildup paying off. And I loved that. This is also absolutely a DARK romance and I think readers should go into it understanding that. Not dark in the sense of a jealous hero and a few dramatic scenes.
This is DARK romance.
I mean genuinely dark.
Obsession. Manipulation. Power imbalance. Psychological intensity. Possessiveness. Morally questionable behavior.
This story fully embraces those elements rather than lightly touching them, and for readers who love darker stories that really commit to their themes, this absolutely delivers. But underneath all the obsession and chaos, I was surprised by how much emotion was hidden beneath everything. There’s loneliness underneath these characters. Curiosity. Desire. Need. There’s this underlying feeling that both characters are circling each other while pretending they still understand what's happening, even though things became much more complicated a long time ago. And then...
THAT ENDING.
Rina??????
You cannot end a duet like that and expect me to function as a normal human being afterward. Because now I need answers. I need explanations. I need book two immediately because I refuse to accept being left hanging after THAT.
Zane Vanthex has officially joined the list of fictional men who will permanently live in my brain.
Release Date: May 2nd, 2026 Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Spice: 🌶️🌶️🌶️
This was unexpectedly so amazing!! I loved this book it had me hooked! The student x professor dynamic was to die for. Every moment between them was absolutely insanely intense. His mind games and constant control over things in Ivy's (FMC) life was immaculate. Zane (MMC) is honestly a terrifying character. But Rina wrote these characters so well. I felt like I was in every moment with these characters and she made it literally come to life.
The twist that got me was the obsession from both Ivy and Zane. Typically you read a book and one character is down right gone and obsessed for the other but they both were and it made it all that much more enticing to read because I needed to know how Ivy would challenge Zane next.
This story was addicting and I am so mad at Rina for the cliff hanger at the end!!! Like what the heck! (That's all I've been reading lately and its so annoying!) I will be destroyed until the second book comes out. Overall this was an amazing read!
It has been my first ARC book and I must say that I LOVED it.
At first I thought “maybe it’s the same plot twist as always” but I’ve been surprised that it’s not. Every time I kept reading I loved it more.
Zane is a VERY dark character, and I have discovered things about myself that I didn’t even know. But Ivy? I feel so identified.
The book has the perfect spicy, the one you need to keep reading because you can’t stop. The romance? Top. There’s no way to describe how much I liked it.
“Attraction turns into curiosity. Curiosity turns into obsession. Obsession turns into need.”
⁀➴ Crimson Obsession was one of those books that consumes you so gradually that you don’t realize you’re completely trapped until it’s three in the morning, you’ve read forty chapters in a row, and you’re seriously questioning your emotional stability over a fictional professor with more red flags than an international conference on warning signs. I went in expecting an intense dark romance. I came out emotionally kidnapped by a story that blends obsession, psychological tension, manipulation, mystery, and chemistry so absurdly strong that every interaction felt like a threat disguised as a conversation.
⁀➴ What impressed me most is that this book doesn’t rely solely on shock value or spice to work. Beneath all the darkness lies a deeply emotional story about need, loneliness, the desire to belong, and two people who meet at the absolute worst possible time. Ivy and Zane do not fall in love in a healthy way. Honestly, I’m not even sure the phrase “falling in love” is enough to describe what happens here. This is a free fall into mutual obsession where love and destruction begin to look dangerously similar.
⁀➴ And yes, I finished this book exactly like the heroine: confused and emotionally compromised.
𐙚 Writing ⊹.˚ Rina Larsen has an incredible talent for building constant tension. And I’m not just talking about romantic tension. I mean that lingering feeling that something is wrong. Something is being hidden. Something terrible is about to happen. Every chapter adds another layer of secrets, manipulation, or unsettling information that forces you to keep reading even when you know you probably won’t enjoy the emotional consequences. The narrative maintains a dark and oppressive atmosphere throughout the entire novel. There’s never a true sense of safety. Even in the seemingly calm moments, the book manages to make you feel uneasy. And that fits perfectly with the story it’s trying to tell. I also appreciated that the plot carries its own weight. There are dark romances where everything revolves around physical attraction. Here, things are constantly happening. There are mysteries, secrets, disturbing behaviors, manipulation, and twists that keep the story engaging far beyond the central romance.
“Sometimes anticipation is hotter than immediacy.”
𐙚 Worldbuilding ⊹.˚ The dark academia setting works incredibly well because it isn’t merely decorative. The university, classrooms, library, and academic spaces become extensions of Ivy and Zane’s dynamic. Everything feels elegant, intellectual, and dangerously unhealthy at the same time. The classroom scenes were some of my favorites because the tension reached absurd levels without anything physical actually happening. There were exchanged glances that generated more anxiety than entire chapters in other books. The atmosphere carries that psychological thriller energy where you constantly feel like you’re witnessing something you probably shouldn’t be seeing. And honestly, it was delicious.
𐙚 Romance ⊹.˚ I need to seriously talk about Ivy and Zane’s chemistry because it was completely addictive. I’m not exaggerating when I say I felt tension in practically every scene they shared. Every conversation felt simultaneously like an interrogation, a negotiation, a threat, and a seduction game. Nothing between them feels safe. Nothing feels normal. And that’s exactly why it’s so addictive. What I enjoyed most was how perfectly the story understands that anticipation can be far more effective than immediate gratification. Attraction slowly evolves into curiosity. Curiosity turns into obsession. Obsession eventually becomes need.
When the more intense romantic moments finally arrive, they work because they’re supported by a mountain of emotional tension built over countless chapters. The relationship is deeply toxic. The book never tries to disguise it. There’s manipulation, power imbalances, obsessive behavior, and emotionally dangerous dynamics. But because the novel fully embraces its darkness, the experience feels consistent within its own universe.
“Every conversation felt like foreplay and warfare happening simultaneously.”
𐙚 Characters ⊹.˚ Ivy was a protagonist who genuinely surprised me. I expected to find a heroine constantly overwhelmed by the situation, but instead I found a woman who challenges Zane at every turn. She doesn’t back down easily. She questions him. Provokes him. Confronts him even when she knows she’s playing against someone far more dangerous than she is.
And Zane... My God. Zane Vanthex is exactly the kind of character who sets off every rational alarm possible while the reader in you keeps compulsively turning pages. He’s controlling. Obsessive. Intimidating. Terrifying at times. And yet it’s impossible to look away from him. What fascinated me most was watching his apparent control slowly fracture because of Ivy. Seeing a man accustomed to controlling every variable begin to lose his emotional stability was probably one of the most entertaining parts of the entire novel. He has officially entered the hall of fame of fictional men who desperately need intensive therapy and who will nonetheless continue living rent-free in my head.
𐙚 What I Loved Most ⊹.˚ The psychological tension, without a doubt. Very few books have managed to create this level of intensity simply by placing two characters in the same room. I also loved that the story never stopped surprising me. Every time I thought I had figured the characters out, a new revelation appeared to prove I knew absolutely nothing. And of course, the atmosphere. That balance between psychological thriller, dark academia, and obsessive romance made the reading experience completely immersive.
“Desire is the hunger. Obsession is the hunt.”
𐙚 Tropes ⊹.˚ ✧ dark academia romance ✧ student × professor ✧ stalking ✧ hunter × prey ✧ psychological thriller vibes ✧ obsessive love ✧ toxic obsession ✧ forbidden romance ✧ cliffhanger
𐙚 What Was Missing ⊹.˚ Honestly, very little. I would have liked to dive even deeper into certain aspects of the central mystery because the story constantly introduces fascinating pieces that leave you desperate for answers. And while I loved the darkness of the novel, this is definitely a book that requires you to accept extremely questionable dynamics in order to enjoy it. This is not a “soft” dark romance. It’s not just a jealous MMC and a few heated arguments. This is genuine darkness within the genre’s boundaries. Obsession. Control. Manipulation. Emotional danger. And the novel never attempts to soften any of those elements.
My real issue was the ending. Because Rina Larsen committed an absolutely unnecessary act of emotional violence by ending this book exactly where she did. I need answers.
“Attraction turns into curiosity. Curiosity turns into obsession. Obsession turns into need.”
“Sometimes anticipation is hotter than immediacy.”
“Every conversation felt like foreplay and warfare happening simultaneously.”
“Desire is the hunger. Obsession is the hunt.”
𐙚 Tropes ⊹.˚ ✧ dark academia romance ✧ student × professor ✧ stalking ✧ hunter × prey ✧ psychological thriller vibes ✧ obsessive love ✧ toxic obsession ✧ forbidden romance ✧ cliffhanger
Necesito respuestas. Necesito el siguiente libro inmediatamente.
I’m genuinely sitting here wondering how I’m supposed to move on after Crimson Obsession—because this book didn’t just get into my head. It invaded it. This wasn’t simply a dark romance for me. This felt like stepping into a fever dream built from obsession, danger, desire, and psychological chaos. It was dark. Twisted. Intoxicating. Completely consuming. The kind of story that grabs you by the throat on page one and refuses to let go until long after you’ve finished. Every time I told myself, just one more chapter, suddenly hours had vanished. This book didn’t just hook me—it possessed me. It wrapped itself around my mind slowly, tightening chapter by chapter, until I realized something deeply unsettling: I had become just as obsessed with these characters as they were with each other. And now? Now I’m sitting here staring at the wall because THAT ENDING?! Absolutely not. No. Rina cannot leave me emotionally shattered like this and expect me to continue functioning as a normal human being. I need book two. Immediately. This is not a request—it’s a demand. At the center of this beautifully unhinged chaos is Ivy—a woman who becomes fascinated by the one man she absolutely should stay away from. Professor Zane Vanthex. Cold. Detached. Unreadable. A man who feels less like a person and more like something carved from stone—sharp-edged, emotionless, impossible to access. A locked door. But Ivy doesn’t know how to walk away once something captures her attention. And Zane? Zane is hiding something far darker than simple indifference. Because some obsessions begin with curiosity. And others begin with destruction. I genuinely don’t even know how to explain Zane Vanthex because every single time I thought I had him figured out, another layer appeared beneath him—darker, sharper, more disturbing than the last. Usually with dark romance heroes, eventually you start to understand them. You find the cracks. You begin to see the reasons behind the monster. Not Zane. Zane remains a mystery. And somehow that made him even more addictive. Morally grey? No. Absolutely not. This man is not morally grey. He is pitch black. Cold. Controlled. Obsessive. Emotionally unreadable in a way that made him feel even more dangerous. Because Zane doesn’t need grand gestures or dramatic outbursts to dominate a scene. He barely reacts at all. And somehow that made him terrifying. Every scene with him felt like standing beside a loaded weapon—completely still, completely silent—waiting to see if it would finally go off. And that tension? That unbearable anticipation? That’s what made him impossible to look away from. A slight pause. A jaw tick. A glance held one second too long. The smallest crack in his control felt monumental. And suddenly I was acting exactly like Ivy—desperate to understand him, desperate to see what lived beneath all that terrifying stillness. Because there is something buried inside Zane. Something monstrous. And I needed to know what it was. And then there’s Ivy—and I loved her. So much. Because she isn’t intimidated by him. Not even a little. And I adored that. In so many dark romances, the heroine eventually gets swallowed by the intensity of the male lead. Not Ivy. She never disappears. She has her own curiosity. Her own stubbornness. Her own fire. She pushes him. Provokes him. Studies him. Challenges him. And somehow keeps demanding more—even when every warning sign imaginable is flashing directly in front of her. This girl looked at a giant walking red flag and said: Interesting. She saw darkness and walked directly toward it. And honestly? I respected the commitment. Watching Ivy push against Zane’s walls felt like watching someone willingly play with fire while fully understanding they could burn alive. She knows she should stop. Logic says stop. Common sense says stop. And yet she keeps stepping closer. That fascinated me. But the strongest part of this book? The tension. Dear God. The chemistry between Ivy and Zane is absolutely feral. I am not exaggerating when I say I felt tension in nearly every single scene they shared. Every conversation felt like foreplay and warfare happening simultaneously. Nothing between them feels soft or safe. Everything feels dangerous. Their interactions are layered with power struggles, obsession, control, hidden meanings, loaded silences, and this constant sense that something is seconds away from snapping. And you feel it. Physically. There were scenes where they were simply standing near each other and somehow I was stressed because the tension was so unbearable. The classroom scenes? Insane. The library scenes? Unwell. The banter? Sharp. Addictive. Brilliant. I don’t usually highlight books. This one? Covered in highlights. Because I already know I’ll be rereading those scenes obsessively. Their dynamic gives you that chaotic feeling where you know these two people are heading directly toward destruction—and you’re sitting there kicking your feet like: yes. exactly. keep going. And the spice? WOW. What I appreciated most was how this story understood something many romances forget: Sometimes anticipation is hotter than immediacy. The tension builds slowly. Painfully. Attraction turns into curiosity. Curiosity turns into obsession. Obsession turns into need. And by the time the spicy scenes happen, they hit harder because they’re not built on attraction alone. They’re built on power. Control. Psychological warfare. Emotional unraveling. You can feel every ounce of that buildup paying off. And it was worth every second. But make no mistake—this is not “dark” in a casual sense. This is DARK romance. Not a jealous hero and a few dramatic scenes. I mean genuinely dark. Obsession. Manipulation. Power imbalance. Psychological intensity. Possessiveness. Morally questionable choices. Emotional danger. This book does not flirt with those themes. It fully embraces them. And for readers who love darker romances that commit unapologetically to their darkness? This delivers. Beautifully. What surprised me most, though, was the emotion hidden underneath all the chaos. Because beneath the obsession, there’s loneliness. Need. Curiosity. Longing. Two people circling each other while pretending they still understand what’s happening—even though things stopped being simple a long time ago. That emotional undercurrent gave this story depth. It wasn’t just dark. It was haunting. And then that ending happened. Excuse me? You cannot end a duet like that and just walk away. You cannot emotionally wreck your readers and disappear. I need answers. I need explanations. I need closure. Most importantly— I need book two immediately because I absolutely refuse to be left hanging after that. Crimson Obsession didn’t just entertain me. It consumed me. And honestly? I’d let it do it again.
• 𝐓𝐫𝐨𝐩𝐞𝐬 - - dark academia romance - student × professor - possessive hero - morally grey MMC - psychological thriller vibes - possessive hero - stalking - hunter × prey - toxic Obsession - touch her & die - cliffhanger ending
• 𝐌𝐲 𝐓𝐡𝐨𝐮𝐠𝐡𝐭𝐬 - Crimson Obsession follows Ivy Hale and Professor Zane Vanthex in a dark and dangerously obsessive romance where attraction slowly turns into manipulation, possession, secrets, and complete chaos. What starts as tension between a professor and his student becomes a twisted game filled with obsession, control, crimes, hidden truths, and shocking reveals. This book was literally so addictive 😭 Every chapter kept getting darker and more intense. The chemistry between Ivy and Zane was INSANE from the start. Their conversations alone felt more intimate than actual romance scenes because of all the tension and mind games between them. Zane was cold, unreadable, possessive, and honestly terrifying at times. The way he watched Ivy, controlled situations around her, and slowly lost his composure because of her was so good. Ivy was also such a strong character because she kept challenging him instead of backing down and she is obsessed with him too 😩 What surprised me the most was how much was actually happening in the plot. It was not only romance and spice. There were secrets, manipulation, disturbing behavior, hidden obsession, and moments that genuinely shocked me. Some scenes had me staring at my screen because I did NOT expect things to happen that way 😭 Every interaction felt dangerous. You never fully knew what Zane was hiding and that made the story even more addictive. There were so many moments where I thought I understood the characters and then another plot twist happened. The atmosphere stayed intense the whole time and the ending completely destroyed me. That cliffhanger was actually evil because now I desperately need the next book. Thank you author for the ARC! ✨
I honestly went into Crimson Obsession expecting a dark romance filled with obsession and tension, but I did NOT expect to become this emotionally invested. This book completely consumed me from the very first chapter. The atmosphere was dark, addictive, unsettling, and somehow still incredibly emotional at the same time.
Zane Vanthex is the kind of character that makes you question your sanity because every red flag is waving aggressively, yet you still can’t look away. He’s possessive, dangerous, intense, and genuinely terrifying in certain moments, but the way his obsession with Ivy unfolds had me hooked the entire time. Their relationship is toxic, messy, obsessive, and emotionally explosive in the best possible way for a dark romance reader.
What I loved most is that the story wasn’t just shock value. Beneath all the chaos, manipulation, and tension, there was actual emotional depth. Ivy’s loneliness, her need to be seen and loved, and the way she slowly gets pulled deeper into Zane’s world felt strangely heartbreaking. I kept telling myself “girl RUN” while simultaneously needing them together on every page.
I flew through this book because every chapter ended with me desperately needing to know what happened next. The suspense, the psychological tension, the emotional push and pull… everything worked for me.
And that ending??? Absolutely cruel. I’m STILL thinking about it. I need book two immediately because there is no way I can recover from that cliffhanger anytime soon.
If you love dark romance with morally grey characters, obsession, stalking, psychological tension, possessive MMCs, and relationships that blur the line between love and destruction, this book delivers ALL of it.
Definitely a 5-star read for me. Dark, twisted, emotional, and impossible to put down.
There was a constant sense of unease throughout the book that kept me turning those pages. 📖
Zane is intense, mysterious and impossible to figure out, while Ivy's curiosity pulls her deeper into something she doesn’t fully understand.
As their relationship develops, the tension becomes addictive and the feeling of unease only grows stronger. 🔥
I spent most of this book questioning everything, trying to work out who Zane really was and what was really happening. And just when I thought I got answers, it twists and goes completely different direction. 👀
My feelings towards Zane changed throughout the book- one minute I was weary of him, the next I was completely invested in him. The emotional pull of the story, combined with the mystery and suspense, made it impossible to put down. 🫠
I was not ready for that ending. I need the next book immediately. ‼️
A dark, gripping read that kept me on the edge the whole time.
By Chapter 3 I was already clutching my pearls. This book is everything we crave from a morally grey MMC. this book was an absolute page turner and I finished in one sitting. The twists and turns had you aching for more. I didnt see the twist coming. Zane is unhinged and sexy from the start. This book was so addicting. The way the author wrote Zane with so many secrets and kept them til the bitter end was perfection. This book isn't just romance and spice, it's so much more.. i will absolutely recommend this book to everyone!
The cliffhanger-- I NEED book 2.
I want to thank the author for the arc! Youre one of a kind, a gem! 🖤
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️ I was hooked from page one! This story immediately pulled me in with the mysterious, flirty, and controlling dynamic between Ivy and Zane . I devoured the entire book in a single sitting—I simply couldn't put it down. The chemistry is absolutely on fire, but there's a dark, secretive edge that turns their relationship into a full-blown obsession. I thought I knew exactly where this story was going, but the plot twists completely blindsided me. It's a thrilling, edge-of-your-seat roller coaster with an incredible buildup. If you want a dark romance packed with massive amounts of spice and shocking twists, this is for you! * Stalker romance vibes * Intense possessiveness *”No one touches mine”
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Crimson Obsession by Rina Larsen absolutely consumed me from the very first page. I went into this book expecting a dark romance, but what I got was an intense, addictive, and completely unforgettable obsession that had me glued to my Kindle late into the night. Zane Vanthex is the kind of morally gray hero who walks a dangerous line between terrifying and irresistible. Every scene with him had me holding my breath because I never knew what he was going to do next.
Ivy fascinated me from the start. Her curiosity and attraction to Zane felt so raw and believable that I found myself falling into his web right alongside her. The tension between these two was electric. Every interaction crackled with anticipation, danger, and chemistry. The push and pull between them kept me completely invested.
The atmosphere of this book was dark, seductive, and deliciously twisted. Rina Larsen created a world where obsession blurs the line between desire and danger, and I could not get enough. The stalking, possessiveness, psychological tension, and constant feeling of uncertainty made this story impossible to put down.
And let's talk about the spice. It was scorching hot. The chemistry between Ivy and Zane practically burned through the pages. Every touch, glance, and confrontation was loaded with tension that had me fanning myself more than once.
What I loved most was how emotionally invested I became. Beneath all the darkness and obsession was a story that kept me questioning motives, loyalties, and what would happen next. The ending left me desperate for more and counting down the seconds until I can dive into the next book. If you love dark romance, morally gray men, obsessive heroes, high tension, and enough heat to leave your Kindle smoking, Crimson Obsession is a must read.
Rina Larsen delivered an unforgettable dark romance that completely owned my attention from beginning to end.
Crimson Obession follows Ivy Hale and Professor Zane Vanthex in a dark, dangerously obsessive romance where attraction slowly spirals into manipulation, possession, secrets, and complete chaos. What begins as tension between a professor and his student becomes a twisted game filled with obsession, control, hidden truths, and shocking revelations.
This book had me completely hooked, even when it was frustrating me. The suspense kept me guessing the entire time, and by the end I was already eager to pick up Book 2.
Zane is absolutely unhinged, morally black, obsessive, controlling, and the kind of MMC who would be a walking red flag in real life. So naturally, I loved him. He kept me guessing throughout the book, and every time I thought I had him figured out, something happened that proved I absolutely did not. Even after finishing, I'm still confused about who he really is... and I mean that in the best way.
Ivy had me all over the place. I loved that she isn't intimidated by Zane and never loses her curiosity or stubborn streak, even when it gets her into trouble. Watching her push against his walls, especially in the beginning when she's determined to make him crack, was one of my favourite parts. That said, I spent a good portion of this book wanting to yell at her to run.
My biggest issue and the reason I knocked off half a star was the repetition. Several chapters revisit scenes from the previous chapter with only a small amount of new information added. While I understand the purpose, it slowed the pacing and made certain sections feel drawn out.
Overall, the story kept me invested, the twists landed well, and the ending left me desperate for more. Not perfect, but definitely addictive.
One thing I really appreciated in Crimson Obsession was the style of writing. It was so easy to follow that I moved through the story quickly, which kept me in this great reading flow. However, I felt the story could have used some more breathing room. With so much happening in a short space, some plot developments felt rushed, making the plot seem scattered from time to time.
I also struggled with the development of the relationship between the main characters. Their feelings changed so quickly that I found them difficult to follow. The FMC’s emotions seemed to go so fast between obsession, fear, and attachment, and the MMC’s behavior sometimes felt inconsistent to me. As a result, I had trouble connecting with their emotions and storylines and staying invested in the relationship. I think the story would have been stronger if these feelings had more of a step by step development.
While this particular story wasn’t entirely the right fit for me, I appreciated the opportunity to read it and share my thoughts.
