Parts were good but it takes ages to get going, and it drags on and on. Too many misunderstandings, Cathal never explains about soul mates to Bronagh, it might have helped all her insecurities.
I did enjoy parts of it, but it took way too long to get going. Some of the plots were ridiculous, To be honest I found the first half of it boring. The plot about Cathal being into bdsm and he’ll never find a woman who likes it, was beyond ridiculous! I’m not sure if this author can write about bdsm, but what he did to Bronagh was a few spankings and n*pple clamps. WOW! Hardly hard core bdsm. The way he was going on at the beginning how he would never find his soul mate, and he’d never get married, I thought he must be into something really bad. I love the whole plot about their ‘anamchara’ as soon as they see them, they know they are the one. So why was Cathal still denying his feelings for Bronagh weeks later???????
Then there’s Bronagh, sigh. She comes across as an idiot at times. Just because you move away from your Irish mafia family, and barely see them, doesn’t mean the enemies won’t target you! 🤦♀️ Sorry but SHES AN IDIOT!! She was forced off the road and they tried to kill her, and she’s sticking to her theory that she’s not being targeted and she doesn’t need bodyguards. 🙄🙄🙄
I didn’t like the marriage of convenience, yes she was his anamchara, but if she wasn’t he was still going to marry her then break her heart in a year. Sex scenes are booooooooorrrrriiinnngg! Barely any foreplay, virtually no bdsm, and to be honest there’s more in Darragh’s book. There’s way too many misunderstandings and Cathal staying at his sex club isn’t a good idea at all. They’ve all got their own houses and then there’s the parents house, AND HE CAN’T STAY AT ONE OF THEM??? It just seemed like the author put a stupid argument in for the sake of it.
Nowhere near as enjoyable as the earlier books in the series.

I always love getting more books in the Covenant of Ascent series from Ciara St. James.
Bronagh's family is trying to move away from the illegal side of things in the mafia world and towards more legitimate options. In doing so her father enlists the help of the O'Sheeran family who are well aware of the risks it takes to go this route. To solidify them entering in this partnership, an arranged marriage is proposed, but Darragh isn't going to force anyone into this marriage. Cathal is against it when it is brought up in conversation, that is until he actually lays eyes on Bronagh.
Cathal never believes he would find his soulmate like the rest of his family has, so he figures settling in this arranged marriage would work. That is until Bronagh gives him a run for his money. Passions run hot between these two and it leads to some explosive chemistry. But all is not sun and roses, like most of the men in Ciara’s books, Cathal messes up exponentially with Bronagh and has to show her that she is the one for him.
Although, it wouldn’t be a mafia story without some action and drama sprinkled throughout. But you’ll just have to read to find out.
Cannot wait to see who in the O’Sheeran family gets their time in the spotlight next!

Wonderful story
Cathal has been a quite man in most of the previous stories. As the man who created the Sex Club, as a legitimate replacement for not having prostitution as a business. It was also a way for him to explore his need for kink. He believed that he was never going to have a soul mate like the other men in his family had. Having another Family leader call for help, an urgent request to get to his only child, his daughter taken to the hospital after being forced off the road . He also had a strange plea, for one of the single O'SHEERAN men to marry her, to tie the families together. One look at her on the computer screen, and Cathal was drawn to her like he'd never felt before. There is a lot happening in this story, and there are a few over the top emotional responses to misunderstanding something that was left unsaid. Each time the threat of self harm is used to express how desperate the loss of the other was going to result in. I am glad the end had everything resolved, and they are strong in their love for one another. Trish. A

This one drove me nuts at times. I liked how the O'Sheeran's were wiling to help another Irish family go straight, even the steps they took to help, some without the other family knowing. But it was the same argument between Cathal and Bronagh and Bronagh's reactions to run first without talking that made me want to bash my head on the nearest hard surface. I knew it was coming when Cathal talked about his work and how he never brought that up with Bronagh, despite all the other things they talked about as they got to know each other and plan a life together. The other part I had a hard time buying into was the guys who were at the center of the threat to Bronagh's family. No one had ever heard of these guys, yet they somehow amassed enough power to be threat??
By the end of the book, I was just glad that the threat was gone and that Cathal and Bronagh had worked things out, as well as to be done with the book.

Usually, if I don't get until a book, I don't stick with a book beyond a few chapters........ And I never bother to rate or review. But I keep trying books by this author because I read several authors who also recommend this author. My problem in her first few books was repetitive storytelling. But, while the author fixed this, she tends to write the same kind of story, rinse and repeat - doing little more than changing characters names. But I thought that I would give her another shot doing this series that she'd went into with the other authors. And for the first few books, I enjoyed them. Now I do l feel like it's back to rinse and repeat.
It took me a week to get to 67%, and it's pretty me into a slump. This was my last Ciara St James book.

Oh boy, it is obvious that both Cathal and Bronagh are very, very Irish. Passion runs hot and the mistakes they make are proof that they are getting to know each other and misunderstandings are part of that process. But I'm so glad we see them work through issues and communicate, becoming closer in the long run. This was a wild ride of mafia, mystery and intense chemistry. The love and support Bronagh feels coming into the O'Sheerans' family is exactly why I read this author's books. So fun and entertaining, I can't wait for the next O'Sheeran to fall in love!

Cathal's Longing had me longing for more!
One of the best Mafia books I have read in a long time. Cathal and Bron's love story hits all the feels. Complex and intelligent, this Mafia family has it all. The characters are beautifully written and leaves the read with on heck of a story. Ciara is at her best and has a hit on her hands. Action packed with intrigue and mystery, this story takes the reader on a fantastic journey. This is a must read and I give it five stars and five flames. Ciara keep them coming. Cathal's Longing will keep you longing for more. Peace out.

Another OSheeren man!
I absolutely loved this book! Cathay & his Branagh just make my heart happy, especially since he was convinced that he’d never find his One. Branagh is perfect for him & she fits into the family so well. Ciara St James hit a perfect 10 with this book. I can’t wait for the next one!

Another amazing book. Can’t wait for book 8 in the O’Sheerans series. Love that other books & characters are incorporated in this series even if it’s briefly. Good to catch up with other couples.
Steam & spice coming off of Cathal & Bronagh was hot! Interesting to learn more from the BDSM life style.

August 23, 2026I was looking forward to Cathal’s story but unfortunately it was kinda boring. I really couldn’t get into the whole bdsm premise of the story. It didn’t seem genuine to me. I’m sure there are many who loved this book but it was a miss for me. This is just MY Opinion.

There's a lot of push and pull here. Two people enter a marriage arranged for strength and end up with a love match. There's quite a bit of angst and adjustment, too.
