This book is the best thing since sliced bread. Personally, this book has groomed me and gave me an insight that we are always persuading. but the real question is how good are you? this book fills that gap. Do you want to be a rainmaker at your firm? are you an entrepreneur who is having a hard time finding clients? do you have a spouse that is very hard to convince? Then reading this book will be the best decision you have ever made in your life.
Outcome based thinking is something great which is not just required to persuade anyone, but also required to know the inner you. "The power with in you" is motivating
On the whole is good book, specifically made for sales persons.
Got it about 2 decades ago and finally got to it. It's substantially better than How to Win friends and influence people as well as influence by cialdini. Both of those frequent in the recommended lists on persuasion and influence.
While I did find the book an interesting read, I can't help thinking that the author was justifying his sales manipulation strategies and vouching them in the term, persuasion. The win-win that the author speaks of in his examples are often not. Rather they are win-zero sum or a more obscure win-lose. Where the seller wins a sale while the buyer might purchase something that they don't particularly need. I think I would have enjoyed the book more had the author confessed to being a manipulator.
All human relationships and transactions can be improved following Hogan's smart advice. He teaches you to sail the turbulent social waters of human relationships and be seen as thoughtful, caring and successful. This way you constantly attract people who will love to interact with you.
One of the most outstanding tools author Kevin Hogan offers you in this self-help guide is the opportunity to plan your moves as a winner. With his map road for success you can drive to your chosen destination in poise and confidence.
Chapter by chapter, Hogan discloses how to create a plan of action that takes into account not only your goals but also the way to face obstacles and turn them into advantages every time.
The companion chart you create, following Hogan's instructions, allows you to have an accountability tool for your progress, making you even independent from coaches and well-intended supporters.
The psychology of persuasion helps you develop positive and rewarding human relationships, because the author shows you how to stand in your counterpart’s shoes and start building up a relationship that has to be beneficial for both.
The inclusion of an ethical component emphasizes the idea that you should never close a deal if it’s not a win/ win operation and both people or groups get some benefits from the deal.
This book reminded me a lot of Dale Carnegie's How to make friends and manipulate--er--I mean infludence people. If I were a salesperson, I might have found it helpful.
1st half is more like a workbook, whether the 2nd half is more about gathering knowledge for cognitive behaviours and how to use the right persuasion techniques accordingly, as well as understanding when is being used on you (which I find to be the most beneficial for anyone who's new into the psychology of persuasion and HCB) it's a great book if you wanna cross the bridge and step-up in multiple aspects of social interaction
Exercises made the difference from this book to others I have read about this Social Skills.
At few times the content is repetitive, but this makes the learning process better from my perspective.
The Structure of the Persuasion Process also made me rate it as 4. It was clear and easy to me to apply what I learned from the book thanks to its structure.
As a business student, this book is helpful. My most favorite quote from this book is "Everything is created twice, first is created in the mind, second is in reality for the rest of the world."
Should you be a person working in sales or marketing this read is a must. The techniques explained by the author work in different situations and are quite helpful. I recommend it.
This has been one of my favorite books for several years, and I've reread it several times. There is a lot of information that is included on each page, and I use many of the tools from this book everyday. With the introduction of each new subject, he provides numerous examples, which is different from a lot of authors who will give you a list of things to do, fluff it up, and not show any context. There isn't a lot of fluff and because there is so much information on each page, it's going to be a book that you will want to reread several times over to ensure that you've grasped all of the information. There are activities inside that you should also do to ensure that you comprehend and retain the information effectively.
