Big Smoke Pulp Vol. 2

Another collection of short stories meant to be like nothing else out there. We're harkening back to an era where short stories were intended to thrill and keep you glued to your seat, rather than the more pensive, slow-burn literary stories you'll find in genre magazines today.

The first volume blew through its funding goals and we're back with another collection of 40 authors from around the world. These stories range from sci-fi to noir to old-fashioned thrillers to romance to fantasy and horror.

True genre storytelling that's going to get push your adrenaline to the max.

Quick reviews:

***"I Am... Innocence Embodied" - Kate Weidemaier
A vivid portrayal of lust. I liked the ending.

***"Top Ten Uses for the Human Heart" - Robert Villanueva
I liked the unusual format. There is also some good alliteration in there, which I can always appreciate.

****"A Nice Glass of Claret" - Joel Glover
Very nice horror story! Exquisitely brief, with a classical nose.

*****"A Disaster Designed by Committee" - Charles Chin
Loved it! Like a view into Dr Evil's boardroom in 2026.

***"An Invasive Species" - Mark Mitchell
Fast, anxious, claustrophobic sci-fi tale.

***"Baited Line" - Daniel J Pool
A fun, flash sci-fi squirmish.

***"Trade Show Tooth Fairy" - EJ Leroy
Enjoyable sci-fi with traces of Hitchhiker's Guide in there. A twist on emergency in space.

**"Cat About Town" - Gaetan Battaglia
Strange first contact story.

****"A Job Is A Job" - Ben O'Hagan
Excellent! A hybrid noir/horror with a really fun but dastardly ending.

****"Clogged" - Jonathon Mast
A horrific story of living with someone who has long hair.

***"Conference at Night" - Dale T Phillips
A short, menacing crime tragedy!

***"Dead Air" - Ryan Broderick
A horrific penance for a life well lived.

*****"Snake-oid Invasion from Outer Space!" -
Clint A. Hall
Probably the greatest story written in the history of stories. Action-packed, pertinent thoughts on war and martyrdom, and a really fun ending all wrapped around a '50s sci-fi facade. OK, I might be puffing it up a little since I know the author... :D
