Testimonials
"Surrogate Author is the kinda book Devdas would have loved." - Sudhir Solman, Programme Manager, Helix Biolabs
"Surrogate Author is a fresh, fun book about Devdas fans." - Ruchita Shah, Business Analyst, MNC
"Devdas is lovelorn; Authdas is booklorn." - S Kumar, Project Manager, IT Product Company "End up asking for more! Authdas a LOL!" - Raghunath Babu Are, Software Engineer, Ex-Yahoo! employer.
Who is Authdas?
I wondered how difficult it is for a woman to be a surrogate mother irrespective of the objective. Writing few books have taught - true Devdas are authors. If authors' adopt similar concept of surrogacy than book can evolve. We have many examples to quote, Amitabh Bachchan, Shahrukh Khan and others that symbolise the surrogacy of continue doing movie irrespective of critics, and box office result. Authdas is Author das! Plot of Authdas character: I taught if Authdas (booklorn -book sick) as Devdas (lovelorn -love sick), whose love is write a novel, Paro. Authdas needs some inspiration to write Paro and if that inspiration was Chandramukhi, how the story would be?
Story of Surrogate Author: Keeping the above plot, I looked into various movies - few movies that often people continue to enjoy are Devdas, Sholay and DDLJ. Keep those baseline into mind Surrogate Author book was written. The book is inline with Devdas. I assume that people, who love devdas would perhaps relate and link to Authdas. I thank Sanjay Leela Bhansali for giving an visually stunning movie, Devdas.
What does this book provide?
There are two sections: First section has the story of Authdas. It is a drama based on Bollywood movies Devdas, Mohabbatein, Sholay and DDLJ. Second section has some inputs to begin as a writer.
Who should pick this book?
The book is meant for aspiring authors, people who enjoy drama, movies and entertainment.
What is the objective behind the writing?
To encourage aspiring authors and continue to write because they love it. A part of fund will be given to educate a girl child.

In other countries, if you want to be an author, you will be one. But in India, you will forced to pursue engineering/medical first and then you will be an author, that too if luck allows. This book is a humorous take on the Authdas of India. Writing a book, that too the first one, is always a special feeling to every author. The uncertainties, the difficulties and the pitfalls are many that makes the author give up on the idea. But the desire lives on. Join Authdas on his journey to write Paro, his first book.

Authdas is an engineer who has returned from London after his studies. He is expected to join the family business and contribute to the society but Authdas has his own fantasies. He wants to pen a book. It has been his dream from a long time. While his parents never understand this passion of his and try to divert his mind, there are a few people who actually help him in his journey, like our Chandramukhi.

Overall, it was a funny story. I liked the introduction where the author says There is no writer out there who gets up one morning and says, 'Let me write a bad novel' This is a short and quick read. The book, while humorous, contains many truths that only us, authors will understand. The writing style is simple. Many can connect with the story line easily. I liked the devdas theme and how it is connected with authors here. Also, I loved the cover page, which is what made me pick this book first among the other titles.

Beyond the main plot, there is a brief guide to aid the newbie authors which consists of manuscript ideas, manuscript keywords and sample manuscript writing tool, which will be helpful for aspiring authors.

*I received a review copy from the author. (A signed one, yay!) But the review above is my honest opinion*

For an author, reviews play an essential role so I will be as fair as I can get...

I expected less from this book, quite less.... But it surprised me, very much.

Have you ever seen Devdas, the movie? Well, this book had a similar story just one thing was different and that thing was the most essential part..

" As a wattpad author and a reader, even I fall in love with books and feel difficult to leave them ( after finishing) to start another one. Authdas, a writer by passion and engineer by profession loves Paro,a book. He wants to write it but complications arise. His father and mother want him to leave writing and be an engineer. He leaves Paro for ten years to go to London and study science. When he comes back, he comes with a promise to himself to write Paro and complete it but due to his parents, he is unable to follow his dreams. Then the suspense comes, just like it was in the movie, Gangawati gives Paro to some other author, Mahadev (an unsuccessful author). Authdas is furious and chagrined.

What will he do? Here the story changes and the end is very satisfying..

I didn't really like the movie( bcz I didn't like the end) but I liked this book, that says it all."

I received this book in exchange for an honest review.

I truly loved this book with all my heart! I was actually reading this book in my microprocessor class {I'm an engineering student by the way}, and I was struggling to not laugh in the middle of the class! I could relate to this book quite closely as though this is my everyday situation put into words. This story is about Authdas, an engineer turned author, born and brought up in an orthodox engineers family, where being a writer is equivalent to being a beggar. He has only only obsession in his life, his one and only true love: Paro. And who is this mystifying beauty you may ask? It's none other than his dream book! and also there are villains, side villains and supporting casts int this play like story. It's a very fun read with a compelling message to the readers to follow their hearts into literature if that's what they want to do.

This is a mini dramatic novel where the book plays the role of finding its author. Writing a review is actually next to impossible because one must feel it which you can get it only when you read it. This book also gives you an opportunity to analyse yourself and helps you in becoming a writer yourself. I have been reading the books of Santosh for a while and all I could say is this - He is one author whom you cannot predict about his writing style as he keeps changing from one book to another.

Do give a read and if you are an aspiring writer, you surely would not be disappointed. You can write to him as well and I am sure you would get his reply at the earliest. Good Luck to you Santosh!!

I Got this Book From Santosh for an Honest review & I will try to fo Justice to it.
This is kind of Spoof + Play + comic + help for future writers.

The story is based on DDLJ and Devdas movies. Cahracters inspired from Devdas and ending is more like DDLJ.

AUthdas is a want to writer who has not met his BOOK Paro for sometime.
He comes home and find his family against and the drama continues.

I liked the concept part of it and also a little bit of humor here and there.
A worksheet in the end was also good.
Somewhere in between things got confusing .

Anyways I enjoyed the small Book and I give this 3/5

Well, thanks to the author for sending me such a funny yet instructive book. It surely is a nice read. While going through the words, I could actually witness the characters coming into clear vision, such was the books's characterization. The book was completely seamless. I just hope the coming copies are edited.

Surrogate Author: Authdas Journey of Nine-month book delivery! is truly a humourous account of the toils of an aspiring writer from the inception of the book idea to its delivery. Written like a play, I loved the whole Devdas theme the authors used to narrate the story. Authdas is the author who is in the shoes of Devdas from the similarly named Bollywood movie. The book is playing the role of Paro from the movie and so on.

The first thing that attracted me towards the book was the idea behind it. Dedicated to all the aspiring authors of the world, this book promised a quirky and funny account of their writing journey. Then the cover is also very unique with a cartoon of a boy writing and the various thoughts going on in his mind. Both these aspects of the book sold it to me and left me eager to read the book.

A short read, I finished the book quickly and am happy to say that I laughed and enjoyed reading it. I felt connected with Authdas and could empathize with him on his various dilemmas, insecurities, the social pressure and the difficulties in his path of becoming a writer! We face all these issues and many more when we put on the writing cap.

The writing style of the authors is simple and they are able to connect with the aspiring authors and with the general reader through the various scenarios they present in their book. Kudos to them on a job well done!

Although, I absolutely loved the book, I could not overlook the grammatical errors with misspelt words, wrong usage of tenses etc. which somewhat lessened my enjoyment of the book.

All in all, this is a short and very entertaining story which will appeal to every reader, especially to the aspiring authors. 4 out of 5 to Surrogate Author: Authdas Journey of Nine-month book delivery! and recommended to everyone. Had the grammatical errors been handled by giving more time to editing, I would have definitely given this book 5 super shiny stars. I hope these errors are handled in the next edition.

I received the book from the authors and I am very thankful to them. The above review is my honest and unbiased opinion and in no way influenced.

I received an autographed copy and I am so happy. Thank you so much! :)

So how does it feel to write a new book?
It starts with scribbling a few words here and there on the white canvas called the paper.
Oops-these days nobody does use a paper-it is on the screens of a computer.
Then the scribbling does get momentum-a picture starts to take a shape.
It’s a picture full of words-trying to tell a story or tell something. Dam it; it is not important what it tries to say but it is important to say something.
It’s like a magician who gets something out of nothing, from his empty hat comes the rabbit, the pigeon and only God knows what.
Then one fine morning (or evening or night or whatever) the picture takes the final shape or the painter (sorry, the author) thinks that it had taken the final shape!
So the end of the toiling days and night-the author thinks.
Now it will only be sunshine at the end of the night-light at the end of the tunnel.
But the author is still a child in fathoming what lies ahead.
It’s only the stat of the beginning of a toiling pilgrimage to the shrines called the publishing houses and the God called the publisher.
Someone will go through your manuscript reluctantly (chances are high the publisher god will read it inverted,( if it is a hard copy)),someone will give you a meaningful smile, someone a mischievous smile –in short in extremely short time the author will be an expert of human emotions.
And then something will happen……………….
Surrogate Author by Santosh Avvannavar and Shilpa Patil will take you to a quest-quest of being an author (or more practically a person who is a slave of writing).
The slave has to write –whatever may come in his way (he is masculine. why that gender discrimination?)
It’s a nine month journey to authordom(even the word is not recognised. what a shame!)-smeared in laughter.

Here is our Authdas! You guessed it right, the author form of Devdas is returning back from London in hopes to continue his childhood dream book, Paro. However, after what happens at Fantasy Mohini's birthday party, Paro seems distant to Authdas. In a rage, he leaves home and accidentally lands at the house of Chandramukhi, the inspiration. By the time, he goes back to Paru, she's already handed over to another author. At the end of a bollywood climax, Authdas wins over Paro which becomes a best-selling book and Authdas, a famous author.

The content of the book should be imaginable now. The difficulties and distracting temptations that an aspiring author faces while preparing his first manuscript is sculpted through popular bollywood characters. The reader would have to focus on two parallel plots from one narration - one, the fictional story of Devdas and two, the abstract tale of Authdas. One can sync well with the authors' brain waves only when they completely relate the abstract take from the main content.

On a lighter note, if the reader knows the twists of all the movies the book is based on, then Surrogate Author is a great fun. The scene of the movie the narration is pointing to will appear on the mental screen and matching the two will definitely make one smile if not a shower of laughter.

Beyond the main plot, the last few pages of the book include a brief guide to writers-to-be. Manuscript ideas, manuscript keywords and sample manuscript writing tools are shared for the benefit of a newbie author.

Surrogate Author is a perfect entertainment for leisure reads and travels. It's just a little bigger than a pocket-size book and wouldn't take more than a few minutes for any kind of a reader to put it down.

Doesn’t stick around for long

Huge thanks to the author for providing me with a copy of the book

To begin with, I thought the book was a hilarious and snarky approach and it was absolutely brainy idea to use a popular movie and to make a literary spoof to tell the plight of authors trying to write their first book.

Yes I love the theme and concept but sadly i couldn’t agree with the execution of the book because the humor and the satire were failing to convey the proper message most of the times. At times it was witty but otherwise it just went on to become plain spoof that wavered away from the theme of the book

The reason for this is perhaps that the characters were not set properly or represented correctly to echo the purpose they were set in. The role of Paro for instance fails to represent the sketch of a book waiting to be written.

The book opens quite refreshingly and must say was something completely different to what I have read ever and I did enjoy it. I wish a little more shaping was done to each characters so that they could have made much more clearer picture and loud enough to convey the purpose of the book. The book also suffers from a pretty abrupt ending as well

In short the book has a very unique concept and attempt and is pretty hilarious but sadly execution lacks at the hands of improper definitions of characters but otherwise for a short story it is a nice entertaining read.

Most of the time, we have seen in movies or read in books about love stories that exist between a man and a woman. Love triangles, sacrifices, happy endings, all these exist in such stories. But how interesting would be a love story that exists between an aspiring author and his first written book? Santosh Avvannavar and Shilpa Patil, in their book ‘Surrogate Author’, have taken inspiration from the legendary Bolywood movie ‘Devdas’ and have beautifully woven the Devdas love story, rewriting the story as love between Authdas, an author, and his first book Paro.

The author has truly said in the book, ‘True Devdas are authors’. As in the movie Devdas, the writer Authdas goes away for a few years for studies while Paro, the book, waits for him to come and write his first book in her. Authdas does return back but fate makes it tough for Authdas to reunite with his love Paro. Will Authdas finally be able to write his first book in Paro or not?

I could visualize the entire movie while reading the book, but with very different and interesting characters. As the story is in a dialogue form, it is fun to read. I specially loved the tips that the authors have shared in the end which will help aspiring authors to write their first book and become surrogate authors. Overall, the language used is very simple, so those looking for a serious read won’t get what they find. I recommend the book to Devdas fans as well as those who wish to read a simple and short story.

UNIQUE AND ENTERTAINING !!!!

Frankly, this is the shortest novel I have ever read. Just 32 pages, quite unimaginable but after completing the reading, I thought it could have been a little longer.

The transition from an aspirant to a budding published writer was portrayed in the best possible way. I liked the concept where books have been personified as babies, truly they are. They mean world to the authors. wow !!! what a concept !!!

The inspiration, love, sacrifices that the budding author goes through while delivering the book and the imprints of the first book has been well depicted.

Truly an unique concept and the filmy typical Bollywood flavor and the perfect timing of sense of humor adds the feather to the cap. This is refreshing and overall a different taste which I encountered for the first time. The title is apt and intriguing but the negative point was the grammatical errors and the spelling mistakes.

Really an entertaining and awesome read.
P.S- Hopefully, it remains the shortest novel I have ever read...

Author has selected a very nice theme which could actually help the newcomers and the one who endeavors to set their career as a writer. The book is framed on the love between an aspiring author and his first book Paro. The title and the blurb of the book are enough to get a clear hint of the book. The cover of the book is nice triggering facets of the protagonist life in eleven clouds. The book showcases the feelings of an author to complete his book Paro and get a bestseller tag.

The story is about an aspiring author named Authdas who went to London ten years ago to complete his education because of his family demands and pressure. After ten years when he came back to his home he makes up his mind to complete the work which he left undone so many years back. But he faces so many hurdles as his book get into another author’s hand. After overburdening the dilemma he finally went to seize his book and at last he was successful in fulfilling his desires.

Authdas is the true Devdas in the world of books !!!

' Surrogate Author ' is another short story penned down by author Santosh Avvannavar. Inspired by a Bollywood movie, Devdas, the author had written the story of Authdas who since his childhood wishes to write his dream book, Paro but had been put on the plane to London for studying Engineering. And years later when he returned to his homeland with his only wish to meet his Paro again , who'd been living under the guardianship of Gangavati in her shelf , and that sparked twists and turns in his life including his rescue by Chandramukhi .
The author had written this short story for aspiring authors to continue to write and improve irrespective of criticism 'cause no author intentionally writes a bad story and had even devoted last few pages with ' Idea to Manuscript ' which include steps about writing stories.
So ' Surrogate Author ' is a fun read that'll keep u gripped till the very end but may read a bit somniferous if you'd seen the movie, Devdas.

Though the title might make you think this book is of a serious theme, it will readily make you laugh. It is a spoof of Devdas with an intention of inspiring authors, new as well as old, to keep on writing. In this story, you will find all the characters from the movie Devdas and a surprise character from the movie Sholay. Here, author is a Devdas and is called Authdas, and Paro is his first book. Rest of the story just unfolds. The core of this book remains concentrated on a single purpose – to encourage authors.

While the concept is good, it is not enough to keep the book away from criticism. In the book, the author (actual one) writes in the Introduction that critics have issues with spelling, story, grammar, etc. I am not critic, but my only issue with this book is it needs editing and proof reading very badly. As of now, this book looks like it has been brought out in a hurry. Once these issues are attended to, this book will emerge as a really humorous read.

The concept is very innovative. Though I am not a critic but only a reader cum reviewer, but in my opinion it was too much filmy. Although the theme or base of the book requires to be so but for me, who haven't watched the movie Devdas, felt many a times disconnected. But I would take this opportunity to thank and appreciate the authors for the suggestion cum guiding tips for the aspiring authors and the initiative taken in this niche area. Lastly, I would say that the book can be further extended as I felt it finished too early to connect me but left an impression and hope for further such readings.

This book is a very different kind of book from the books I usually read . The title of the book seems that the content of the book is going to be very serious but when I read it , it was a simple Devdas type story of a wannabe author . The author has used the Devdas background perfectly to describe the condition of an aspiring Indian author . India might be the only country where If you say someone that you want to be an author that person will think that you are out of your senses . Narration of the book is simple and in latter half of the book the author suggests traits to write a book . Overall a good and useful book.

"Surrogate Author" bears an innovative approach of making a spoof of the evergreen and dramatic "Devdas" (movie). I liked the concept of the writer objectifying people, who are the characters of the movie, and then once again personifying them by giving them all a narrative agency. The story, however, depicts the confusions of a person who aspires to be a writer. There are times when ideas come flooding in, and there are times when the individual can't arrange a few words to make a proper sentence. A good writer must have the courage to speak his mind, and to accept criticisms only to turn them into his own favour. The book works to convey this message through the light-hearted dialogues.

First of all, I would like to mention that I got this book free in a giveaway hosted on goodreads by the author.

This book is intended for aspiring authors. It's a quick witty read which is creative remake of Bollywood film Devdas.
In this book, author wants to inspire the ones who want to get into the writing profession and author has used impressive way to rekindle their dormant ideas and thoughts.Tips and techniques have been presented for the newbies to form their own manuscript.

I felt that the book could have been prolonged with more drama. It finished too early.

I got a free copy of this book fromm the author.

This is an extremely confusing book. I did not get the story. What exactly is 'writing' Paro? I never knew what was going on. I understood that it was a kind of love story but a nonsensical one at that. I guess the whole book was a metaphor but I didn't get it. Paro was a book and Authdas was a person and the love story involved Authdas 'writing' Paro but his parents don't want him to do that? Weird story.

The story unfolds in the form of a play. It is basically a parody of Sanjay leela Bhansali’s ‘Devdas’. Paro here is an unfinished book and Devdas is a wannabe writer. The book is targeted at aspiring writers who are somehow unable to complete their projects. Full review at Natasha'z Words

This was probably one of the very few books which, despite reading all the way through, did not make any sense whatsoever. It is the sort of a book that would offend book critics and grammar Nazis alike! Sure shot recommendation to whoever who loves exclaiming 'wtf did I just read!'

I have never read a book as funny as this, where being anything other than an engineer is being equal to a terrorist! Amazing 47 pages!

This is the story of an engineer turned author Authdas {a guy very similar to Devdas}. Authdas always wanted to be an author and write his first book named Paro. Paro is his childhood obsession and an unfulfilled dream. But there are so many people who stand in his way. It his love-struck journey towards his dream Paro, and an unending love to his writing even after facing many odds.

The format of the book is unique. I loved how the story comes out like a play with each character taking the centre stage. The book sends out a powerful, and a much needed message - In the introduction, Santosh says "Good authors are those who write and basically are not businessmen." You can be an author, don’t let the critics, money, fame and others affect you.

If Bollywood movies like Devdas, Sholay and DDLJ recharge your soul, you are sure to have a heart full of laughter with this book! If the reader knows the twists of all the movies above, then Surrogate Author is great fun.

The book is meant for aspiring authors, like me, who enjoy drama, movies and entertainment. It's just a little bigger than a pocket-size book! But, a dhamaka in small size, truly!

One Dollar Book, But Gave the Pleasure Worth Two!!!

One thing that I loved about Santosh's Book (this is the second one I read), is that they are short sweet and fulfills the promises it makes.

The Book starts with a passion following introduction by the Author and takes you to the entire journey of Authdas (Shadow brother of Devdaas). And follows exact story of Devdaas with a humorous twist.

What I liked is that at the end of the book, the author has taken an extra effort for all who always wanted to write a book, but could not. Nice tips with proper formatting of fill-in-the-blanks, that assists you in starting your own book. (Someday I might :) )

A nice book and it is must for all those who wants to write a book, without giving any thoughts about the critics. I personally, don't give much of petty grammar mistakes, if the story is good. But yes, the story should be good. After all, it's not only the critic who reads your book, but also many, who picks up the book, to find something interesting and you cannot rob them of their pleasure, which most authors do.

Overall a nice read. Gets over in 15 minutes and leaves you with pinch of Humour and pinch of Gyaan , just like his previous book I read.
