I'm giving this a four star because the writing was Fan.tas.tic. Like I was in loooove with this book. It was mafia, secrets, all the things. And I literallly couldn't wait to finish this book and see how it ended. I loved that the FMC had some boundaries, but... unfortunately, I was a little dissapointed when she ended up throwing out the "morals" she had and sleeping with the dude a week into knowing him.
Which leads me into the next part, this is an open door.. and it kinda hits you way into the book, so this isn't a series I will be continuing, but if that is something you're comfortable with and love Mafia/Bravta stories, this one is definitely for you!
Also it felt a little rushed, all the falling in love, so to me it didn't seem super realistic and not totally my cup of tea, but it might be yours!!
Which leads me into the next part, this is an open door.. and it kinda hits you way into the book, so this isn't a series I will be continuing, but if that is something you're comfortable with and love Mafia/Bravta stories, this one is definitely for you!

I had the pleasure of receiving this as an e-ARC and voluntarily will be giving my honest review. If you love a good mafia romance you will definitely love this one! This made me laugh and cry the banter was phenomenal!! The plot twist that i never seen coming and the betrayal!! This does end a cliffhanger and now I need book 2!!

A romance-heavy mafia story that kept me hooked from beginning to end. Michael and Katie's relationship was sweet, emotional, and full of chemistry. I also loved the family dynamics, Sarah's friendship, and how Rosalia wasn't written as a typical villain. This was a warm, addictive read, and I finished it in just one day.

This was a fast pace they fell for each other romance book and they are so good together even if he stalked her at the beginning. If you ask me that's a plus who doesn't love an obsessed man. Now I'm stuck waiting for the second book because of the cliffhanger at the end and would recommend this book to anyone.

Where do I even begin with this one? A Dangerous Kind of Love completely surprised me. I went in expecting a fairly typical mafia romance and instead found a character-driven story filled with fantastic banter, emotional moments, slow-building chemistry, and a cliffhanger that immediately had me desperate for Book Two.
Michael Amato was easily my favorite part of this story. On paper, he's a billionaire CEO. Behind closed doors, he's a powerful mafia boss. I loved seeing both sides of him—the controlled businessman everyone respects and the fiercely protective man who would do absolutely anything for the woman he loves. Yes, some of his actions definitely crossed into morally gray territory, but watching his softer side emerge around Katie made him far more interesting than the typical mafia hero.
Katie is unlike most heroines I've read. She's witty, outspoken, completely unfiltered, and absolutely refuses to be intimidated by Michael. Their banter had me laughing from beginning to end, and every conversation between them crackled with chemistry. While I occasionally wished Katie showed a little more growth as the story progressed, I also appreciated that she never lost the chaotic personality that first drew Michael—and me—to her.
One thing Briar Voss does exceptionally well is her writing style. The dialogue feels natural, the descriptions are vivid without slowing the pace, and the relationship develops through conversations, movie nights, laughter, disagreements, and learning to trust each other. Their romance never felt rushed, making every milestone feel earned.
The mafia storyline added just enough danger to keep me hooked without overpowering the romance. There were twists, betrayals, emotional moments, and plenty of suspense, all building toward an ending I genuinely didn't want to see because it meant the book was over.
If I have one hope moving into the sequel, it's that we dive even deeper into Michael's world and see Katie continue to grow after everything that happened here. That cliffhanger completely worked because I immediately needed to know what happens next.
A Dangerous Kind of Love is funny, romantic, emotional, and addictive. If you enjoy character-driven mafia romances with fantastic banter, a protective morally gray hero, and enough suspense to keep you glued to the pages, this one absolutely deserves a place on your TBR.

Where do I even begin with this one? I read this as an ARC and thoroughly enjoyed it. It's definitely convinced me to pick up more books from this author in the future.
That being said, there were a few things that started to bug me towards the end. Before anyone comes for me, these are purely my personal opinions. Reading is subjective, and every reader will have a different experience.
Starting with Katie: in the beginning, she was rough around the edges, feisty, and one of the reasons I was drawn to her character. However, as the story progressed, those same traits began to feel repetitive and, at times, immature. I did take into account that she's written as being in her early twenties, so perhaps part of my frustration comes from the age gap between myself and the character. Still, I found myself becoming increasingly annoyed by her inability to grow, even when faced with difficult and stressful situations.
By the end of the book, Katie felt like someone who would rather deflect than confront a problem head-on. For a character portrayed as intelligent and strong-willed, her failure to connect some fairly obvious dots—and then her surprise when everything came together was a little frustrating. The way she reacted afterwards, with what felt like a small tantrum, made it even harder for me to sympathise with her.
As for Michael, I won't lie—his stalker tendencies initially gave me the creeps. That said, I actually enjoyed his wit, intelligence, and overall presence on the page. Were some of his actions red flags? Absolutely. More red flags than a carnival, if we're being honest. But not quite enough for me to fully buy into him as this terrifying mafia boss figure. His use of “Doll” did not do it for me in anyway.
One thing that felt overdone was the constant emphasis on people watching their backs simply because of Michael's name. It was mentioned repeatedly, but there never seemed to be enough context to justify that level of fear. I would have loved more character development and backstory to establish his reputation. Inheriting a company alone didn't feel like a strong enough reason for everyone to view him as such an intimidating force.
The plot twist, betrayal, and final chapter all felt incredibly rushed. There wasn't enough context or development for such major revelations, and by that point I was admittedly starting to lose patience with Katie's constant whining.
That being said, ending the book on a cliffhanger was a genius move because I absolutely want to know what happens next. I'm invested in their story and will definitely be picking up the sequel. I just hope Katie shows some real growth in the next instalment.

Thank you so much to Briar for allowing me to read this as a part of your ARC review team (sorry this is late!), this is my honest review an opinion. This was my first ever mafia romance and dipping my toe into the waters of dark romance (read: slight stalker behavior) but I am so glad I did because the book was GREAT! It was definitely romance heavy, with the bulk of the plot being driven by Katie and Michael's budding relationship, and their chemistry and immediate connection made it very addictive.
I finished this in two days because I wanted to find out what happened between them and how far Katie would go after she met Michael in the bar... needless to say I was not disappointed. I loved her fierce energy and passion, her devotion to her family and best friend, and how incredibly bold and sassy she was when it came to her interactions with Michael. The fantastic banter and quick wit for both characters definitely added to their depth and ability for the reader to become emotionally invested. I think the only eyebrow raising factor for me would be the "instant love" factor and how fast everything moved, but I guess if you know you know?? It worked but was a little questionable at times. The ending blew me out of the water (no spoilers here but DAMN. Strap yourselves in for this one), and I will absolutely be continuing this series to find out what happens!

I received an ARC of A Dangerous Kind of Love by Briar Voss.
This story follows Katie, a school teacher who bartends at night to help support her mother, and Michael, a billionaire businessman who secretly runs the mafia. Their relationship starts when Michael begins showing up at Katie’s bar night after night, determined to get to know her, and from there we get both the romance and the suspense of Michael’s dangerous world.
One of my favorite parts of this book was Michael. I loved getting to see both sides of his character—the powerful businessman everyone respects and the mafia boss handling problems behind the scenes. The mafia storyline kept me invested throughout the book, especially as Michael worked to uncover a betrayal within his organization. Briar Voss also does a great job with descriptive writing, making it easy to picture the settings, the characters, and the events unfolding on the page.
I also enjoyed the relationship between Katie and Michael overall. Katie’s willingness to stand up to him creates some fun moments, especially since everyone else is terrified of him. While I occasionally struggled with some of Katie’s reactions and felt like her personality could be a little inconsistent at times, it wasn’t enough to take me out of the story. I also would have liked a little more tension in the slow burn and a bit more detail in the spicy scenes, but readers who prefer lighter spice may enjoy that balance.
What really has me interested is where the story goes next. Katie doesn’t learn the full truth about Michael until very late in the book, and that revelation sets up a conflict that I’m excited to see explored in the sequel. There’s definitely some redemption and relationship rebuilding ahead, and I’m looking forward to seeing how their story continues.
Overall, this was an enjoyable mafia romance with a strong MMC, an engaging storyline, and a cliffhanger that successfully left me wanting more.

I LOVED this book! And I need book 2 🫣
The dynamic between Katie and Michael is just amazing. Michael (mafia boss, tattooed, scary guy, you know) becomes a teddy bear as soon as he looks at her, and Katie ....well she is her crazy, non filtered self. She is unable to keep her mouth shut, and it is really hilarious to see her saying exactly what she thinks of Michael to him, when it would be reason enough for the mafia boss to unalive someone. But no, Katie makes him laugh. I love them both so much!!
To be honest, I was a bit scared because of the age gap (it's not really my thing, unless we're taking faes/vampires/immortal being and centuries in age gap) but I actually liked it! It's not a "disturbing" age gap at all, just two adults meeting in a bar and falling (hard) for each other. I liked how natural it felt, and how non problematic the age gap was!
And I must say, I liked how this book is written. Since the beginning, I was expecting a specific (obvious) plot twist (I'm not complaining that it's obvious, it's written that way, and I liked it) but it didn't happen when I thought it would. Instead, other plot twists happened, I found myself crying over fictional characters unexpectedly (I cry super easily, that's not a surprise, but that specific event in the book? Yes that's the surprise), ....and got anxious by the end of the book when things escalated because I had totally forgotten it was a "book 1 in a series" and not a standalone 😂
So, to summarise: I loved this book, the characters are amazing, the love story is endearing, the cliffhanger hurt, I need book 2!

I have a lot of mixed feelings about this book.
I loved the beginning chapters; Katie's personality was feisty and full of sass and she knew her own mind but then she seemed to completely change and she became whiny and at times, very immature, I know she was 24 but I felt at times, she acted a lot younger.
Michael, now, yes, he had stalker tendencies but I liked that, I liked the darkness that it promised and it was intrigued as to how it would go in regards to him and Katie. Then it sort of stopped and yes, he's Mafia, but I didn't feel as though there were enough mafia scenes in the book. It was always implied to not go against the name Amato and there would be consequences, but that was it.
There were some scenes that I did like; her friendship with Sarah and I laughed at how Katie loved horror films but spends most of them cowering behind her hands and that she absolutely loves smutty cowboy books and I did like Michael and his protective nature and how he looked after her after something happened but I did find that most of it could have been darker, could have given us more insight into Michael's world.
But I suppose, the darker elements of the books theme, were with Katie and Michael as a couple. Because they moved quickly, very very quickly and there always felt like an underlying power imbalance between them, especially with her being 24 and Michael 36.
I did really want to change Katie's personality, because at times, it made me want to stop reading.
I enjoyed the last few chapters and the ending, even though it was a little rushed, was very promising. I could see the set up for a darker second book (hopefully) and how it was all going to come together.
I just hope Katie grows up and we see that growth in the next book and I would love to see more of the darkness and underworld of Michael's mafia life because I feel like that was missing.

There were some scenes that I did like; her friendship with Sarah and I laughed at how Katie loved horror films but spends most of them cowering behind her hands and that she absolutely loves smutty cowboy books and I did like Michael and his protective nature and how he looked after her after something happened but I did find that most of it could have been darker, could have given us more insight into Michael's world.
But I suppose, the darker elements of the books theme, were with Katie and Michael as a couple. Because they moved quickly, very very quickly and there always felt like an underlying power imbalance between them, especially with her being 24 and Michael 36.
I did really want to change Katie's personality, because at times, it made me want to stop reading.
I enjoyed the last few chapters and the ending, even though it was a little rushed, was very promising. I could see the set up for a darker second book (hopefully) and how it was all going to come together.
I just hope Katie grows up and we see that growth in the next book and I would love to see more of the darkness and underworld of Michael's mafia life because I feel like that was missing.

I enjoy a good mafia romance, but unfortunately, this was a little too unrealistic. Red flags were acknowledged, but the author (and FMC) continued forwarded. For example, Michael has been showing up at the bar where Katie works for a week straight, not talking to her, just looking from a distance before offering her a ride home after shift (at 1 or 2 am) after her car broke down. Oh did I mention he had been casually waiting for her to get off? Yeah that't not creepy at all. Katie and Michael barely know each other and their relationship is already moving full steam ahead.
I can enjoy an age gap, but Michael and Katie's is about a 12 year difference--a bit much for me because how much can a 24 year old have in common with a 36 year old? Their relationship came off more as Michael being a provider/taking care Katie (financially, emotionally) instead of them being equals. Now that I think about it, maybe Katie secretly has daddy issues. She was raised by a single mom and when her mom got sick and needed to move into an assisted living, Katie was left with coming up with the funds to pay for it.
Spoiler alert! Katie's mom passes away towards the end of the book. The author does do a good job capturing grief, "Grief comes in waves and arrives when I least expect it. Some days I convince myself that I’m doing fine, only to see something that reminds me of her or hear a song she loved, and I completely fall apart.” My uncle passed away this year, so I could relate to the grief scenes. Relationships are tested during hard times and I think these times really show a relationship's strength. You should be able to lean on your partner. Sometimes, you may not know what to say or how to be around someone who's grieving, but you still show up everyday for them. So I think Michael's love really showed during this part.

Where do I even want to begin talking about, "A Dangerous Kind of Love," by Briar Voss? I devoured this book over the course of two days and If I wasn't working I probably would have sat down and finished it in one sitting. From the first few pages Voss had me hooked.
I would like to say that voice in Voss's writing feels candid, unhurried, and unique. It made getting wrapped up in Katie and Michael's story that much easier. As a reader we all have different opinions on what we like as writing styles. I absolutely devoured A Dangerous Kind of Love. This book grabbed me from the very beginning and never let me go. Briar Voss created two characters who were impossible not to fall in love with, and every scene between them had me completely hooked.
Katie is hands down one of my favorite heroines. She is hilarious, fearless, a little chaotic, and says exactly what's on her mind. I found myself laughing out loud so many times because you honestly never know what she's going to do next. She's the kind of character who lights up every page she's on.
Then there's Michael. Whew. Talk about a man who completely owns every room he walks into. He's powerful, protective, intimidating, and carries that dangerous edge that makes mafia romances so addictive. Underneath all that control is a man who loves deeply, and seeing those layers peel back made me fall even harder for him.
The chemistry between Katie and Michael is absolutely electric. Their banter was everything I hoped it would be. Watching chaos collide with control was so entertaining, and every interaction between them had me grinning like an idiot. The tension, the flirting, the sparks, and the emotional moments all blended together perfectly.
What I loved most was that this wasn't just a spicy romance. It had heart. The emotional connection felt genuine, and I found myself rooting for them every step of the way. By the end, I didn't want to leave their world.
Briar Voss has such an engaging writing style that makes the pages fly by. This was funny, sexy, emotional, and packed with unforgettable characters. I wanted to really like this book, but I had issues from the very start. The fact that we talked about how tall Michael was over and over and over again became annoying. Next was how wholly ridiculous the FMC was. I loved how snarky she was, but that is where my enjoy of her ended. Nothing about her or her choices were realistic, especially when she claims to know red flags. She raced toward them like she was playing capture the flag rather than listen to them. I also learned that I am not a fan of "insta-love" in fact I found their relationship obnoxious. MMC was much more likable, but the use of the name "doll" was too much, he's 36 not 76. Due to the fact that I enjoyed his character so much more than the FMC's I wish we would have gotten more information about him and spent more time with him.
This book is 400 pages and I feel that edits of the repetitive parts of this book could have shortened the length and kept me interested longer. Due to the repetitive nature and my strong distaste for the FMC I found myself not wanting to pick the book up. I was totally annoyed and addicted for the first 100 pages or so, but then I just struggled with this story. The writing style was fine, but I felt the characters lacked depth. Overall, this wasn’t a bad book, especially for a debut, but it was lacking in several areas.
The book ends on a cliff hanger, so I would recommend waiting for book 2 before picking this book up. I know there were alot of things that I did not enjoy, but I would still recommend this book. While I didn't like aspects, other may love this story. It's definately worth giving it a try.

I really liked Briar’s writing style, it felt different to anything I have read recently. It made the connection to Katie and Michael's story so much quicker and easier.
So we’ve got a billionaire mafia boss who gets all the feels for our chaotic little sunshine bartender/teacher, epic start I can hear you say. Mix that with a sexy little age gap, god-tier banter and some sizzling tension…..ohhh we are onto a winner. . But what I took away from this read was the bones of the story were much softer and essentially about trust. It an emotionally layered onion of a read, that prohibits you from putting it down.
The pages must have been turning of their own volition at one point because I was absolutely sure I’d told myself that I was going to go to sleep.
I absolutely loved the banter throughout the story. Honestly at points I laughed out loud and had to stop to read out the funny bits to my husband (he was thrilled 😂).
I need to follow this story’s journey into book 2 and I’m sure you will too.

I signed up for this ARC because, honestly, who can resist a mafia romance? What I did NOT expect was to be completely hooked from page one.
I told myself I'd read a chapter or two. A few hours later, I was still sitting there, completely absorbed, wondering where the time had gone. This book is so incredibly well written. The pacing is absolutely perfect not too slow, not too fast, just the right balance to keep me turning pages long past my bedtime.
And the humor? Chef's kiss. The little funny moments sprinkled throughout the story made me laugh out loud more than once and gave the characters so much personality.
Speaking of characters... Katie felt so real to me. At one point I genuinely wondered if she had ADD because I related to her THAT much. Her thoughts, reactions, and chaotic energy felt incredibly familiar.
And then there's Michael.
Michael. MICHAEL.
This man has completely ruined my standards. He's protective, charming, dangerous, and basically everything you want in a mafia romance hero. At this point, I'm considering booking a ticket to some remote Italian or Greek neighborhood and waiting to be dramatically kidnapped by a handsome mafia boss named Michael. For legal reasons, that's a joke. Mostly.
Briar Voss has done an amazing job creating a story that grabbed my attention and refused to let go. The only complaint I have is that now I have to wait for Book 2.
And honestly? That's incredibly rude.🤪
If you love mafia romance, great characters, perfect pacing, chemistry, humor, and a story that keeps you glued to the pages, do yourself a favor and pick this one up.

Katie is hilarious, unapologetically herself, and exactly the kind of heroine who refuses to be intimidated by a powerful man. Her sharp wit and banter had me laughing throughout the book, while Michael Amato is the definition of possessive, powerful, and completely obsessed. A CEO on paper and a mafia boss in reality, he walks that fine line between terrifying and irresistible.
The chemistry between Katie and Michael is electric. Every interaction crackles with tension, and I loved the contrast between Katie's chaotic energy and Michael's need for control. Watching them challenge each other, push each other's buttons, and slowly fall for one another was incredibly addictive.
What surprised me most was the emotional depth woven throughout the story. It was not what I expected maybe because I didn't read the genre correctly and skimmed through it but non the less it was a very interesting story .
What I loved about the story was a comple lack of love rival if I say so cause to be honest I was getting bored with the same old thing and me being invested in the second male lead more then the first and then cursing the world for not doing any justice.
Now I did love how Michael was a rather unique individual that the author portrait him to be atleast in front of Katie and how quickly he changes his face with other people. Now where I loved Michael for being composed I also loved how katie was a rather Chaotic individual. With there being a slight discrepancy in her personality towards the ending.
Though I did feel that the author kind of rushed the ending the pace was very easy going and suitable for the most for the first part but there was a slight rushed feeling that I felt from the book towards the end and there was no mention of why Michael was so powerful not just cause he was a Mafia head but why exactly was he in control of the Mafia and what was his part in it that made his so fearful to others.
I also loved how there was a part where he says " there isn't a version of me where one of those things didn't exist"

I think there was room for further character development, particularly for Katie, and I would have loved to see certain plot points explored in greater depth. I spent the beginning of this book convinced I knew exactly who the problem was. I was wrong.
What I enjoyed most about A Dangerous Kind of Love was how often it made me question my own assumptions. Every time I thought I had someone figured out I started to question my theories again. The suspense and mystery kept me engaged from the very first chapter because I genuinely never felt completely certain about where the story was heading.
Katie was easy to connect with. She is trying to keep her life together while carrying responsibilities that would overwhelm most people, and I found myself rooting for her from the start. Watching her navigate new relationships, friendships, and unexpected situations made me emotionally invested in her journey.
One of my favourite parts of the book was seeing opinions change—not just Katie's or her best friend, but my own as a reader. Characters I was suspicious of surprised me. Characters I thought I understood turned out to be more complicated than I expected. The relationships felt genuine, and the emotional moments felt earned rather than forced.
What started out giving me serious "stalker guy" vibes slowly became something completely different, and that was what made this book so enjoyable. It constantly challenged my first impressions and kept me guessing until the end.

Yes, the chemistry is there. Yes, the protective hero energy is there. Yes, there are open-door scenes that are well-timed and add to the relationship rather than overshadow it. But what surprised me most was the softness.
At its heart, this is a story about trust.
Katie isn't a heroine waiting to be rescued. She has built a life for herself through hard work, sacrifice, and independence. Michael doesn't fall in love with someone fragile—he falls in love with a woman who has already proven she can carry the world on her shoulders.

This book, let me tell you. I was so in love with the way the entire book progressed. The characters and their banter sent me.
“I’m getting really tired of you telling me what to do.” His mouth twitches. “I don’t think you are.”
I would never have expected this to be Briar Voss' first romance. This was a Mafia Romance, but it didn't read like your typical Mafia romance. Yes it was Dark at times. Yes the structure and the punishments and the whole mess was there. But your focus was drawn over and over to the romance between the FMC Katie and the MMC Matteo. Will she, won't she, do I need to smack her over the head? I could never settle on one choice.
Honestly if I could go above 5 stars for this I would. There was some spice for sure, but it wasn't in your face. I was more drawn to Katie's feisty personality and my constant wonder on how she ended up in the position she was in (literally).
And no thank you very much for this cliff-hanger @briarvoss.author. Excuse you. In the words of Matteo - “I’ll say it again for the second time tonight.” I lean forward. “You’re a little sht.”

The highlight for me was definitely Michael and Katie’s relationship. Their banter was enjoyable, and Michael was easy to love as a hero. He’s completely obsessed with Katie, protective, caring, and very much a golden retriever hero when it comes to her.

This book overall was really good, I say that because at first I wasn’t really feeling the book, I wasn’t enjoying how quick the FMC was to date the MMC and want to be with him without getting to know him fully. But then by 50% of the book I was enjoying it. I loved how he was there for her in a moment when she was grieving and struggling, I just adored how caring he is for her although it does feel like the MMC didn’t really get a chance to tell the FMC about his background(his real job) so I feel like the way that she found out was crazy. Would I have wished she found out earlier? yes but the cliff hanger was so good. I personally love the FMC’s best friend Sarah, because the FMC is in this state where all she sees is him in a rose colored light, Sarah was more conservative on the fact of you’re moving too quickly with this man. I personally think the author should have added more cute scenes in that way, we could have gotten to know the characters dynamic better. But if you guys love, mafia boss, age gap, touch her and die, grumpy x sunshine. Then I think this book would be great for you.

Wow I am totally ruined for that emotional rollercoaster ending! Katie and Michael were just such an IT couple I need a few minutes!
Katie is working two jobs to pay for care for her mother when she meets Michael. Michael is the tall, tattooed alpha protector that gives of you touch her and 💀 vibes.
Katie as a FMC does give of that innocent sunshine aura but also some naivety, I mean the dots were there just never connected them, but her back chat and joking nature makes her relatable.
Michael at a young age is forced to take on an empire and after seeing Katie he knew he wanted no one but her and did everything to put himself in her orbit. I love the dark tension vibes that surrounded him and how doting and caring he is to the FMC. It was refreshing to see he had this soft side reserved only for her but dear and respected by everyone else.
The relationship developed so naturally it was an instant attraction but not this instant “love you” be progression of a relationship. The mafia side was like this dark tension in the background that you were constantly waiting for the shoe to drop and for it all to be revealed. Wouldn’t say it was dark dark more just hints and snippets which teases at the possibility of more involvement in the future.
Love this read and how the mafia boss is so soft and caring for the bubbly FMC.

Things I loved:
This book started fast! The banter was so much fun!! Katie doesn't hold back and always tells it like she sees it! Michael is sexy and a man in control... but Katie pushes his limits!
Things that I didn't care for:
While I LOVED Michael's character, I did not care for Katie's character, she comes across immature and bratty. The banter was fun at first, but it kinda got old after a bit. It seemed repetitive.
The book does end on a cliffhanger! So be prepared to wait for the next one!!!

Things I loved:
This book started fast! The banter was so much fun!! Katie doesn't hold back and always tells it like she sees it! Michael is sexy and a man in control... but Katie pushes his limits!
Things that I didn't care for:
While I LOVED Michael's character, I did not care for Katie's character, she comes across immature and bratty. The banter was fun at first, but it kinda got old after a bit. It seemed repetitive.
The book does end on a cliffhanger! So be prepared to wait for the next one!!!
